[00:00:00]I was asked to see a young lady in the hospital who came to the ER over the weekend for severe abdominal pain. She's a new mom and really didn't want to come to the hospital, but her pain was such that she knew it was the right thing to do. She had some blood work and imaging done and low and behold, she was found to have gallstones as well as a stone that escaped from her gallbladder and moved into her bile duct causing a blockage of bile flow. We have a few treatment options in these scenarios and the best one for her is a procedure called ERCP, which stands for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.

[00:00:28]It's a procedure that only a subset of GI doctors perform and it happens to be one that I particularly enjoy and take pride in as it requires tremendous finesse to perform properly and avoid complications, which sometimes can be quite serious.
