Losing Weight and Reading Books
Added:Hello folks, it's Better Bob. I haven't been on the channel much lately and uh I just thought it's time to come back and uh have a little talk, tell you about my progress. Uh this summer has been good.
You know, I've not been as busy at my business and I've had a lot of extra time and we've taken a few trips as a family and I've really been kicked back actually in and just enjoying life. Um, after the busy spring season, uh, my diet's still going very well. Uh, I'm down finally out of the 220s. It took me 32 days, 33 days to get out of the 220s, and now I'm down to 217. I'm still keeping with all my uh uh things that I learned when I did the Keto Mojo. I'm not really testing anymore because I basically know what what works. And I'm still eating in the morning. Usually eat about a pound of hamburger or I eat a half a pound and maybe a couple of beef kabasa uh links which I found at Sam's Club is very good. So, um not eating too much fish. Don't like it. But this is working. Losing weight and feeling good.
And uh I'm just enjoying my summer actually. Uh I think I've got this thing dialed in now, guys. We're getting down there at 217. I'm getting down, you know, closer to goal. Uh it's going to be another 20 maybe 30 lbs to get all the way down to where I need to be and where I want to be. And uh so they take me down in the high 180s, low 190s somewhere in that neighborhood. So I've just been enjoying my time, guys, and um enjoying my family. We went on a trip.
Um my granddaughter does uh beauty pageantss and she won and it was a was really good pageant that we went to to watch her on that been on trips and uh swimming. I I love swimming. I don't know about you but I do. So just been enjoying life and um guys sometimes we just need to quit worrying about everything and watch life. You know, you see so many people and they're they argue and fight about everything online and it's just it's ridiculous. You got to turn that off sometimes. You got to turn off the people that always uh arguing about things and u turn that TV off and maybe get a good book and read it. Uh you know, as you can see on my little bookshelf here, I I I like some of the fantasy novels and and uh especially the ones that are fairly well known. I've always liked them, but uh I like other things, too. But there's something about picking up a book that is u a fantasy that helps you see reality a little bit better. And it's it's the weirdest thing, you know, uh in Narnia, the this this Narnia series right here, it's uh you know, the the book called The Magician's Nephew. There's a scene in it where Alan is uh singing the planet of Narnia into existence. And that that's such a beautiful scene and and it helps me when I read the Bible uh can imagine, you know, God the Bible says that God saying the universe into existence. Well, it's beautiful to hear the the uh to read a story about Alan uh singing Narnia into existence.
Uh, you need to read things that inspire you and make you feel better about the world. You know, I haven't had cable TV at my house for probably maybe 10, 12 years, maybe longer. So, I'm just shocked when I go to someone's house and they've got the television on and there's commercial after commercial after commercial and the news and all the stuff that's on TV now. It's just so depressing because I'm completely insulated from it, you know? I I I don't watch that garbage. Um if I do watch something, it's a YouTube video, you know, I I pay the what a tenth of what people pay for cable just to turn the commercials off on YouTube and watch, you know, interesting things and or I buy a good book. You know, the newest book I've bought is this uh Galahad in the Grail by uh Malcolm Gite. Well, this is a a retelling of the uh Arthur stories and uh boy, it's good. It's all in poetry, which I'm not a huge poetry fan, but boy, the poetry in this is very good.
And it's almost like a song. So, I've really enjoyed reading that several times now. And u the artwork in this very good, too. So, you know, folks, I don't know what cable costs now, but I I've heard that it cost a fortune. So, uh, you know, maybe turn that cable off and start reading, start studying, start finding some really good things to read. Um, every single morning I I get up and I have my prayer time and I I reading the Bible through, which I've done many times. I'm reading the Bible through from Genesis to Revelation this year.
We're uh in Isaiah right now. So, uh, and I enjoy that. And every time I read it, I get something new out of it, just like I do with Narnia. Right there, Narnia, when I read it through. And right next to it, here's something that's been kind of controversial in the news right now about uh the Odyssey movie. You know, that's controversial.
You hear a lot of argument in on social media about this movie that came out, which I went and watched. I thought it was a good movie. It wasn't Homer, but it was a good, you know, entertaining movie, but it wasn't Homer, but a good book.
>> The Odyssey, I like Robert Fagel's uh translation, and it's just good, guys.
And it's it's a good story. Take it takes you out of your uh way of looking at things. And if you're intimidated, say you're you know, a lot of people don't read anymore. They're intimidated by reading. You know, folks, for what you're paying for cable, you could go and get an Audible account and you could have some of the best audio recordings of great books. You could get the book and you could actually read along with a person with a good reader. It could uh give you a great uh experience of the book. You know, I do that often. uh like the Odyssey, this particular version, uh Ian Mlen uh reads that on Audible and it's just very enjoyable. You know, the Narnia has a good uh good uh audio recording on on Audible, too.
Harry Potter, you know, I'm a big fan of Harry Potter. Uh you know, when I was years ago, people would say, "Oh, it's the devil. It's the devil." It's one of the most Christian stories that's ever been written. I mean, Harry Potter is.
So it I'm not talking about that to to take into your church house but a lot of time literature you can get the idea that something is uh uh through the fantasy you get to see reality in a better way. So and I see that too while also watching the Bible. My favorite book of all time since we I just got off on the topic of of uh of books.
one that's not a fantasy book of course is man's search for meaning that's a this is a great book uh this is new one I I haven't even read this particular book I'm kind of keeping it back because I've read man's search for meaning for 25 years and uh it's it's a great book it tells a true story of a man that went through a very hard time and how he got through it and u these these things are so important and you know also I'm a huge fan of huge fan of CS Lewis and uh you know Narnia of course was CS Lewis but this is one that's lesser known the hide that hideous strength you can read this one folks and see uh what's happening in our world right now I mean CS Lewis predicted it like 70 years ago in the 40s when he wrote this book folks reading is something that everyone should do, you know, you should you should read. You know, I have diet books over there, too, but you should read. Uh it it'll help you.
All the all the haze and the and the stuff that goes at us, the the noise of today's world, it'll drive you nuts, guys. But you can get into a good book and and see perspectives and it helps you see through the through the muck and mire that you're seeing online all the time right now because when you see uh the world from a great writer's perspective, it's it's much harder for people who are of a lesser mind to deceive you. I'm just gonna be honest with you. So, doing really well, folks.
So, I just want to do a quick video to catch y'all up on, you know, what's going on with me. I' I've actually thought about doing more videos on on stuff that I like that's not diet. They won't be popular, but it'll be something I could enjoy. So, uh uh may do a live this week. Uh if y'all have questions for me, write them down and we'll just have a good live sometime. We can talk about books. We can talk about the Bible. We can talk about diet. We can talk about so many things like that. And u I appreciate y'all.
Goodbye.
