Semtech elegantly leverages ion-selective membranes to bypass the inefficiencies of traditional electrolysis, turning industrial waste into a viable resource. It is a sophisticated demonstration of how precise electrochemical control can disrupt conventional metal extraction methods.

Possible breakthrough in electrochemistryAñadido:
Electrolysis is a powerful tool that led to several element discovery, many industrial applications, and countless benefit to modern society, but it has its limitations. It's a slow, energy-hungry process and generate unwanted byproduct. So, what if we could make it more efficient by simply keeping cat ions and anions separated so they don't immediately recombine in a wasteful manner? A simple idea this uh young man dedicated his life, money, and real estate to study and fine-tune, and now he wants to share it with the world for free. No fancy equipment, no expensive chemicals, anyone can easily replicate at home. As the saying goes, extraordinary claims requires extraordinary evidence.
The power of science is the ability to replicate an experiment separated in time, space, and performed by different people to verify the same outcome. One way to tell science from con artist is to do it yourself, so I did. What you're going to need? Well, for tools, you're going to need this high-speed grinder. There's many different types on Amazon. This is the specific one I purchased. Next thing is, of course, you need the cat ion exchange resin.
Should be enough, right? After that, you'll need a clear PVC cement. Okay.
Um Oh.
All right, check. And then finally, you want a substrate material to actually apply it on.
CONTAINER OF RESIN.
NOW WE HAVE OUR POWDER RESIN.
Then we're going to add the same volume of the PVC cement to the same volume of resin that we have. So, again, I'm just going to eyeball this.
Ah, should have been wearing gloves.
Okay, now that we have this all mixed up, we can actually now apply it. So, like I said, I use a polypropylene sheet, but you can use a uh fiberglass uh mesh or some sort or woven sheets.
Shake this.
Shake the sheet so we get a even surface throughout. Sit and let it dry.
Uh it took me about 6 hours in that.
Honestly, you could wait probably an extra hour or two.
So, we have our cup assembled now and we're going to have use some salt water as a test.
Neutral pH will not be allowed to go through, as you see.
Graphite positive electrode and a stainless steel negative electrode. Starting to run the reaction. As you see, the voltage is drastically dropping down and that is the membrane polarizing. The electrodes and actually I can in fact smell it, but there we go.
We have an alkaline.
Semtech stands for salt electromining technology using membrane electrolysis of salt water. With the chlorine-based CMU configuration, Semtech can digest and extract almost the entire periodic table. Acid plus oxidizing potential is strong enough to extract all precious metals including iridium, rhodium, platinum, gold, palladium, silver, osmium, ruthenium, and much, much more.
Rhenium, I can go on and on and on.
>> Precious metals are notoriously difficult to quantify. I had some brief experience with it in this last video.
Rhenium, rhodium, and palladium are usually fine and digest in aqua regia without too much drama. Given a clean sample, they also don't generate too much interference in mass spectroscopy.
Osmium and ruthenium have a volatile tetroxide that can leave the sample at higher temperature. Silver, gold, and mercury have a tendency to stick to everything and every containers that hold them must be rinsed several times to avoid losses during preparation and the memory effect during analysis.
Iridium is known to resist attack from aqua regia. It does not dissolve easily in anything. If the sample is full of sand or silica, these metals can be very hard to separate, hence the need for hydrofluoric acid, heat, and pressure.
In my opinion, the ICP-MS is the best option for low concentration of heavy metals. His project is just getting off the ground. Other YouTubers have shown interest in the ideas, but he still need our support. There is a large community of science enthusiasts on YouTube alone and a lot of very talented people far smarter than me.
If you are interested and want to help, you can go to rowwild.net for more info and contact. Feel free to review and comment.
I am working on the analytical part and a more thorough digestion and reduce interference method. I already begged and bitched for support from ICP-MS manufacturers for my other project, but this time there's a real application.
Since the precious metal industry seems to be lacking the will and interest to address mining waste analysis and recovery. Honestly, I think there is something to get involved with. I'm trying to help him out, but if it turns out to be a dead end, I will still have learned a lot along the way and that alone makes it worth my time and effort.
Please visit his channel here and his website rowwild.net for more.
Speaking of support, Kemdilic is going through some problems with YouTube and I think more views on his channel could help force the algorithm to remonetize this excellent channel. Even if you have seen his video, I think a few more rewatch and views could help the greed-driven corporation YouTube has become to allow him to resume producing high-quality videos.
Thank you for your continued support.
Damn it.
