Successful franchise expansion requires robust operational support, adequate resources, and effective marketing strategies to compete with established market leaders; local ownership alone cannot guarantee success without addressing fundamental business support structures.

Why Dunkin Failed in Canada (But They're Back) #franchisebiz #comeback追加:
Duncan is making a comeback in Canada, but the last time did not end quietly.
In 2018, Quebec franchises won 16.4 million in damages after Duncan Brands Canada failed to support them against Tim Hortons.
This time, the master franchise is Canadian-owned. Peter Mamas, CEO of Foodastic, claims local ownership will make the difference. But the original problem was not geography. It was a lack of operational support, marketing and resources for franchises. Mama's points to Futtastic's portfolio over,200 locations including Second Cup, Milestones, Fresh AI, Pit Pit, and Jimmy John's.
However, Second Cup has struggled.
Freshy face turbulence and Jimmy John's has barely made a mark in Canada.
Foodtastic plans to open one Duncan cafe per week, but scaling 50 locations a year is expensive and complex. The real test is whether franchises will get the support and financing they need to compete with Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and McDonald's McFafe. Foodtastic promises menu localization, but offers no specifics. Canadian ownership and vague reassurances are not a strategy. Until Duncan proves itself in Quebec and Ontario, this is just a promising announcement, not a proven turnaround.
