EP:7 Staples out, shrinker on!Added:
Good afternoon. Welcome back to the channel. Uh if you're following along on my after amputation story, uh today was a day of updates. We made it to the orthopedic surgeons. I went there and uh the uh doctor's nurse came in and started taking my staples out, which wasn't as painful as I thought it was going to be because things are pretty tender down there still.
um got all the staples out. The wound looked really good. Uh didn't even put stereo strips on it. They just took the staples out. The doctor came in, looked at everything, was very happy with where we were at. Uh he acceped it for compression uh to start to drive the fluids and get the swelling down on it. Oop, sorry. I probably bumped the mic there. And uh was happy with everything. He gave me an order for the uh to go to the prosthetics uh dealer that I'm going to be working with, which is Hangar here in Louisville. And I got a good friend who's an above the knee amput, and he's been going specifically to this one prostatist, um Steve. And uh so he kind of had a heads up I was coming. So he was very nice cuz I popped in, no appointment.
Just said, "Hey, I've got an order. What do we need to do to get the ball rolling here?" Steve took a break from his lunch to take me back and talk to me a little bit, kind of tell me what's in store.
And um while I was there, he took the ACE wrap off and put me into a couple of official amputees, what they call shrinkers, and basically a compression sock. And u said u give it about four weeks and then we'll get started. So, in those four weeks, I also got an order for physical therapy, which I've got a physical therapy group here in Lraange I just love. I've been there for my knees, my Achilles, my seven ankle surgeries previous. So, I've gotten to know these guys very well. They take really good care of me and they're good. So, I got an order to start going back to them.
So, as soon as they call me and get all the insurance stuff clearance away, I will start physical therapy. I'm guessing two to three times a week for four weeks. Get my range of motion and my strength built back up in my stub and uh then on June 15th go back and start working with the prostitian. So that's exciting.
It's like a huge pressure relief. I don't have to keep my legs straight anymore. I can bend it all I want so I can start getting my range of motion back. keep the shrinker on 247 to drive the fluids back up my leg and get the swelling out because you've disrupted all that venus venus flow in your leg.
It takes a while for the body to adapt.
Uh that'll come way down. It'll be almost cone shaped and when it gets to that point is when I'll be ready for a pro prosthetic.
So, uh all good news. Uh my my good friend Jeff came over and uh got me down to the doctor's appointment back and saved Debbie the hassle of trying to get me in and out of the car and getting me down there. Debbie went with us and we came back.
I bought him a nice lunch dinner for all of his efforts today.
And uh as a minuscule thank you for all he did because he spent most of his day with me. I hate to eat M day and I'm not one that likes to ask for help, but I'm blessed with uh some really good friends and some family that it just they, you know, they make it easy to ask for help when you need it. So, with that, I'm blessed because of them. I'm blessed because of all of you. This is good mental health for me, kind of talking through this stuff better than I thought it would be. So, with that, I just want to say thank you for supporting the channel. I hope you'll like and subscribe and share so we can grow this thing. I'm stunned that we already have almost 200 people that are following this journey. So, I'll try to make it entertaining and good as I can. I'm still kind of learning the the ropes of vlogging. Um, but we'll go from there. A lot of us I got to get rid of doing that, too. But I'm learning to speak in front of the camera. Again, thanks. God bless you all and we'll talk to you next time.
