Prices in Japan keep rising. Life in Japan is becoming more difficult.Hinzugefügt:
Hi, hello.
How are you today?
So, welcome back to my another episode of giving you the latest grocery pricing here in Japan.
So, the objective of making this video is, of course, just give you the latest information on what has been happening in Japan.
Especially, you know, we are now under the circumstances where that every price has been increased due to the inflation and uh due to the maybe unbroken balance between supply and demand and uh due to the uh another unexpected negative impact caused by the Middle East crisis, naphtha crisis, oil shortage, naphtha shortage.
So, I just went to this uh local supermarket to buy food items uh for our daily life.
So, I'm going to give you the latest price, latest price, latest grocery price in Japan.
And today is May 26th, 2026.
May 26th.
So, by the way, Japan's really hot, really hot. You see, I wear just a t-shirts and that You see, I I wear a short-sleeved s- pants, men's pants, short uh shorts, men's shorts because long-sleeved uh you know long long length long long length short length pants longer length pants.
It's really hot. It is really you know unbearable unbearable unbearably you know so [snorts] hot.
So that's why I I wear like a like a summer.
So I wear like my outfits like I wear in the summer season.
So and now we cannot imagine what it will be what it will be in the real summer season.
It is going to be crazy crazy summer.
>> [snorts] >> So anyway, I'm going to give you the latest price increase price increase price price situation in the local grocery store. So that today I went to the just average average local supermarket which is not the lowest budget supermarket. So everything is sold at the average pricing average prices.
Okay, let's get started.
The first [snorts] item I have is bean sprout.
Yeah, always we do actually buy bean sprout 200 g.
>> [snorts] >> Okay, I paid very very cheap.
31 Japanese yen divided 158 gives me 20 cents 20 cents.
Thank you for the bean sprout the producer of the bean sprout. We have to appreciate for their effort to keep the lowest price for bean sprout.
20 cents, 20 cents.
>> [snorts] >> So, the next I have spinach.
Spinach.
And I paid 128.
128 divided to 158 gives me 81 cents, 81 cents. So, it has It doesn't say how how much, but looks like >> [snorts] >> 1 2 3 4 four bunches of spinach.
Spinach.
81 cents, 81 cents.
Okay.
The next I have Let me see.
This is a beef Not a beef. It's meat. Meatball meatball for our daughter's lunchbox. So, tomorrow she's going to bring her lunchbox bento box to her kindergarten. So, my wife asked me to buy this this kind of the the ready-to-made ready-made foods for bento box lunchbox.
And this is a two two two package into the one package.
This is a what the special deal of the and I paid 322 322 Japanese yen divided to 158 gives me just a $2, just a $2.
$2. That's okay.
Okay, the next I have pork pork.
It contains one package contains 300 300 49 349 g 349 49 g and I paid including tax 593 593 Japanese yen divided by 50 it gives me $3.75 and $0.75 I don't know if Yeah, according to the latest news report I heard that [snorts] the pork price price of pork has been increased due to the you know Middle Middle Eastern crisis. This kind of you know the packages like a plastic bag and plastic you know wrap wrapping the price of the these kind of the you know material has been increased due to the shortage of naphtha. Naphtha is a Naphtha is a the main uh material for the for the for for for the manufacturer to the to to make these kind of plastic products. That's why the price of the these kind of foods has been increased and $3.75 $0.75 is I have to calculate. Yeah, every time I have this kind of food item I have to calculate how much we have we have to pay for 100 g 100 g and according to this one it is let me give you Oh, okay.
It is 170 Japanese yen for 100 g.
It's too expensive. Too expensive.
Because I think just a couple of months ago, I just a couple of months ago 100 g of pork was sold at more or less 100 like a 10 Japanese yen, 110.
So, meaning that we have 35% increase. 35% increase. Just just within 2 months, I believe. 35% increase. Can you believe this? Pork price.
Okay, the next next I have Let me see. Ah, sauce tonkatsu.
Frozen frozen cutlet with Japanese sauce. Frozen cutlet.
For our daughter's lunch box again. So, it has 1 2 3 4 5. Five small sized uh cutlet made ready-made frozen cutlet.
And I paid 258 Japanese yen. Divided 158 gives me $1.63.
$1.63.
Mhm, it's okay price. It's okay.
Acceptable. Acceptable.
Okay, the next I have another frozen re- ready-made meal for our daughter's lunch box. So, this is the uh spaghetti with pollock pollock roe pollock pollock roe pollock pollock roe pollock roe.
So, the one package has four four plates of the spaghetti.
spaghetti And I paid this one at two two or three 203 Japanese yen.
Divided 158 gives me a dollar 28. A dollar 28 cents.
A dollar and a dollar and 20 cents.
Okay, the next one is dessert for our kids, chocolate bar.
So, I have a discount. So, that's why I I I bought.
Without discount discount, I wouldn't buy.
So, with discount, I have I paid 408 Japanese yen. Divided 158 gives me $2.58.
$2.58.
So, one box has six pieces of ice bars, chocolate ice bars.
And the size is not not the too small, not the too big. It's just a mi- middle sized. A good for the everyday's family dessert.
So, $2.58.
Okay, and the next I have milk.
Just a just a one milk one uh one 1,000 ml 1,000 ml milk.
So, I paid 200 214 214 Japanese yen.
Divided 158 gives me $1.35. $1.35.
>> [snorts] >> I bought two of them.
And the last one I had in my shopping list was soy sauce. Soy sauce.
And it contains how much?
Let me see.
750 ml. 750 ml.
And I paid This uh low salty.
Lower salty. Lower salty soy sauce.
I paid 397 Japanese yen. Divided by 158 it it is $2.52. $2.50.
52 cents.
So, in the total total in total I paid like 2,768.
2,000 768 cents. Japanese yen. Sorry, Japanese yen. Japanese yen. Divided by 158 gives me 17 cents. 17 cents and a 51 52 cents. $17.52.
Still still you know acceptable. Acceptable. Not unacceptable level.
But especially pork like I explained within just just a two months we have like 35 percent increase.
And um what I don't like What I don't like is that So, the inflation and the price increase has been really really really going on everyday everyday every month.
Steadily slowly steadily not to sharp increase though. However, it's it is going to be like steadily and uh slowly but non-stop. Non-stop is that people do not like.
Of course, we know that.
The government is now trying to do their best to stop the inflation and price increase but there's nothing that they can do. There's nothing that they can do.
And our you know, income level our the spending has been increased.
The family budget has been increased.
However, our wage our average average wage Of course, it has been increasing.
However, the pace of the you know, the increase has been much much lower than the pace of the increase of the food prices and everything prices. So, that's why our quality of life and our life has been more and more difficult to manage to manage. This is the reality what is happening in Japan.
Many Japanese people are suffering from sustain suffering from sustaining keeping our the quality of life. We have to regulate regulate down rate our quality of life. For example, we have to cut some budget for maybe giving up the pork and maybe instead of the the some meat, we are going to eat some I don't know some kind of alternatives.
Like very cheap food items like a tofu, you know, or other low budget food items.
So this is a reality.
So thank you for watching.
So like I said, yeah, I I'd like to have this video as much as possible because I want to keep my record to the future when we come back to watching this video and we will be able to know how price is currently is on the way in our life.
So that's all for today.
So see you on the next video.
