Everything is Crab launch event at the Crab Museum! 🦀Added:
I'm going to Nobody.
I Fore doesn't have I'm like, "Oh, that's not And I'm having fun. I love I Please It won't make any sense.
person around this I like doing now.
This is the first day.
And then So Oh my god.
Hello everyone and welcome Welcome to the Crab Museum.
The show is going to be beginning in about 5 minutes. So, please take your seats, please. Oh, it's more exciting than that. Oh, I said, "OH, IT'S MORE EXCITING THAN THAT."
>> OH, thanks everyone for making me feel so so welcome. Um, so please take your seats, fill up from the front, and uh be legends and stay clawsome.
Hello everyone.
>> Woohoo.
All right, we're we're we're back once again for an incredibly epic adventure through the world of the crab. This time we've gone digital. Normally at the Crab Museum, we are focused on the natural world, but this time we're going pure binary. Um, and I'm delighted to uh to announce that we've uh we got the team from Secret Mode and Odd Dreams here.
Woo. And we're here to we're here to celebrate this this this new newest game came out just this morning. It's absolutely crushing it. Um, so thank you all for coming. Thank you all for being here in person because normally gaming is a thing that we seem to do on our own, but you know, it's funner with friends, am I right?
>> Hell yeah. Hell yeah. And also, thank you for everyone up there watching at home. You are more than welcome to join in in the festivities. Um, smash that like button or something.
Um, but look, if you are also watching online, we are a real physical museum dedicated to the Decapod. So, we couldn't be more delighted to be hosting um what I think is probably the world's best game about crabs. So, now before we get started, before we get into the the crab meat of it, um this being a real place, um there is a fire escape here.
There is a fire escape the way you came up into the building. Uh there are no scheduled fire alarms for tonight's performance. So, uh, if a fire alarm goes off, just, you know, very calm, calmly, get out of the building.
All right. Now, we're honored to be welcoming, uh, Secret Mode Games for the launch. Um, and here's what's going to be going down for the evening. We're going to start off with a talk on evolution. Oo.
Oh, it's spookier than that.
>> Then we're going to have a run through of the game, the first big reveal.
Then we're going to have a talk about Carsonization.
>> Oh yeah. And then we're going to have a comfort break.
>> All right. And then after our comfort break, we're going to have another run through of the game. And then following that, we're going to potentially have a little talk on crab reproduction.
Oh yeah. And then we'll maybe have a little final boss level run of the game.
But before we get started, yes, this is the launch of uh Everything is Crab, but I would also like to say a very happy birthday to David Atenburgh.
>> So, happy birthday to you.
Happy birthday to you.
Happy birthday, David Atenburgh.
Happy birthday to you. Woo!
Hooray! Hooray!
>> He's a jolly good fair. Enough of that.
Enough of that. Enough of that. He's had enough well wishes. All right. So, with all of that set in stone, I would like to introduce our first speaker for the evening. He is my brother. A is going to be talking about evolution. And yes, we are wearing the same t-shirt.
So, welcome to the stage, Bertie.
Hello everyone. Hello. Yes, I was introduced as a talk about evolution.
It's more me talking about evolution, which is subtly different. One is rehearsed, the other one is not. Yes, me and Ned, we are wearing the same t-shirt. um that is a kind of a random occurrence that occasionally happens which is a theme in evolution. So we could perhaps style out our clothing choices there by saying that we're reflecting one of the sort of most important mechanisms that underly natural selection. But I'm getting ahead of myself. So um I am not a gamer. I am a uh director of a science museum, the Crab Museum in Margate for all of you watching at home. Um I'm not really a gamer. Uh, and my impressions of how evolution is represented in gaming, um, are I have to say I have a bit of a bug bear with one game in particular, um, and one whole franchise in particular, which is of course Pokemon. Um, and if anybody's played Pokemon before or seen any of the the things that they do, um, a Pokemon will win a battle or something and then will just spontaneously out of nowhere evolve into a sort of more complicated form of itself, which I think does evolution dirty to be honest. Evolution is much more spectacular than that. Uh, much more complicated than that. Uh, and it that doesn't make sense. It's a very bad um it's a very bad portrayal of hard science.
Um, so I'm going to tell you why I think that's such a bad portrayal. Um, and then we're going to hopefully hopefully see a better portrayal of it in Everything is Crab, but um, no no pressure of course to the uh on the wonderful people that produced this game. Um, but yes, so Evolution uh, whilst this is a childfriendly um, event tonight, um, Evolution does rely on two slightly PG things. one of which is sex and the other one is death. Uh and it does rely on both of those. Um so when animals love each other very much or or not at all in many cases um they have sex and produce many many offspring. Um I have only produce one offspring. Um so you can deduce from that that I have had sex at least one time if that's the kind of thing you want. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you very much. I say at least. I say at least.
It's probably about one and a half if you count the Anyway, but so uh many animals produce many many many many more offspring than that. Tens of thousands. And in fact, crabs, some species of crab can produce a million lay a million eggs, fertilized eggs, and then only one will make it to adulthood.
And the purpose of sex from a biological point of view, um is to sort of jumble up the genes in u in the partners and to produce a new unique offspring. So all offspring are completely unique and have like a kind of jumbled up combination of genes. So all of our genes are all different. When you produce a new human, or if we were crabs, when you produce a new crab, you're you're making a new thing, a new child with all of these different genes in it. And those genes give you different features, um different kind of attributes, different things, different ways of your patterns of of of being. Um and some of those features uh can be very useful. Um, other features um are not useful at all.
Some can even give you terrible, terrible diseases that we won't go into.
Um, but evolution is the process by which all of those sort of random mutations of genes get whittleled down.
And they don't get whittleled down by the animal themselves. This is the important thing. And this is where Pokemon slips up so badly. Um, because the Pokemon itself has should have zero agency in terms of what happens next.
Um, the Pokemon has to die.
It can't you can't evolve in your own lifetime. You can't you can't evolve per lifetime. This is a this is a process that happens through reproduction through reproduction through successive generations. Many many many generations.
So the speed at which things evolve depends on the lifespan of the animal.
So whales evolve very very slowly because each of them might live to be about a hundred years old. Whereas a damsel fly will live for 24 hours and each time they reproduce and die their produ their you know their their genes are being selected by the environment.
So some creatures can evolve extremely fast. So insects that's a big advantage that insects and crabs do is because there's so many offspring they can evolve very very quickly. Um, but things that have a very long lifespan or something like a a Pokémon, you know, it doesn't really make any sense because they just like I said, they just suddenly spontaneously turn into a Snorlax or whatever. And it's like, no, come on. Doesn't do it doesn't work like that. Um, anyway, what was I talking about next? You see, I'm rambling here.
So, um, everybody has different attributes, um, different genetic features. Ned, for example, my brother, we are related to one another. Ned has a very interesting genetic mutation. Um, I'm sure he won't mind me telling everybody, but he's got a really squishy nose.
And if you It's true. I don't have a particularly squishy nose, but if you ask him very very nicely after this, he'll probably let you squish his nose, but his nose is is very soft and it's lacking cartilage. Uh, and we are we are half Thai. We I I remember growing up thinking, "Oh, it must probably like some weird Asian thing, like squishy noses." Turns out it's totally not. None of our Thai family have any idea why he's got a squishy nose. Um, and our grandmother's cousin, it turned out, had a squishy nose. And so genes can be sort of hidden in sort of the genetic in like the lineage of families and then sort of suddenly kind of appear later on um and give your grandchild's nephew's cousin a squishy nose seemingly out of nowhere.
Um, so that's one of the very complicated ways uh that they do that.
So the organisms that survive are those that are best suited for their environment. Uh and the environment sort of chooses which survive. Um the the organism does not. Um but it one way in which the organism does choose is in the terms of sort of reproduction. Um some creatures like peacocks have sort of very fancy uh feathers that are very very very impractical and they're just there because other peacocks sort of fancy that as a feature. um crabs like fiddler crabs have been one big massive claw. So again, sort of the role of sex plays a big important role. Um and I wonder if we'll see that in the game.
Maybe not.
Uh yes. So um history the history of life on earth has been one of evolution and it's one of probably the very few sort of universal laws that we have in terms of the definition of life is sort of a living thing that obeys sort of Darwinian evolution. Darwin being the namesake of the uh the kind of blob down here on everything is crab. Um and yes it's been going for four billion years or so. It's not just animals that do it.
I've been talking about sexual reproduction, but but plants and many other many other living things um do that as well. Um and yes, very it's an amazing it's an amazing thing.
And if you look through history, there are all kinds of weird animals that have gone extinct. There sort of plattyon.
There's this weird thing called the tally monster. There was like a cross between a sort of a worm and a fish.
Amazing things that existed, but the environment decided that they were just sort of too stupid looking to survive.
Um and they have died out. um you get kind of evolutionary orphans like avocados for instance. If anyone's ever wondered why avocado stones are so big um so like a tomato seeds are very small for you to eat and then you poo them out and then you sort of thereby fertilize them. Um but an avocado stone is far too big to swallow and don't try because you'll choke. Um but they evolved to be that big because they were intended to be eaten by giant tree sloths which went extinct about that over a million years ago. Um, and they only avocados in their current form, they only survive because we also quite liked them and we propagated them as well, but they're not really for us. So, evolution sort of provides kind of these weird little sort of kind of pockets of history. Um, and that's what I like about evolution. Um, so as we watch the game, um, think to yourself, is this matching what evolution is and what evolution does?
Let's find out. Um, and yes, I'm I'm very excited to see. So, yes, in summary, um, God is dead. Uh, life is an endless cycle of death and rebirth. Uh, and everything is indeed crab. All right. Thank you very much.
>> Well, well, well. Thank you very much, Bertie, for that uh stimulating introduction to uh to what this game is at its core all about. So, coming up next, we're going to have the first uh playthrough of the game. Um never been before seen on a screen this big. I promise you that. Um but this being Crab Museum, uh we do have an extra thing for you. Um, now I might be able to hear some rustling behind me in the corner there. Uh, it might be a little bit of rustling. I'm not sure. But back in there, we've got an emotional support crab because this game this game is going to test you.
>> We're going to see a lot.
>> So, our emotional support crab is here to make sure we all have a good time.
They're going to they're going to sit down here and um and I just want to make sure that we're all in safe hands, safe claws. Um and this emotional support grab is is going to be with us for the playthrough of the games. Um and um and and as we pass over now to Eli from Secret Modes, Secret Mode. Um sorry, this has really thrown me actually. Um we're going to learn a bit more about this game. and how it works, why it exists, and and why it's so much fun to play. So, I'm gonna pass you over now.
>> Yeah, I'm definitely going to need an emotional support grab throughout this, but hello. Yes, I am Eli from the Secret Road team. Um, I might take this off.
>> Um, but yes, this is Everything is Crab.
It was created by uh Odd Dreams Digital.
uh they are the masterminds behind everything is crab. Um I'm not sure how well it's going to stick to to the true theme of evolution because Darwin doesn't necessarily die every time to evolve, but we'll look past.
>> You're saying Darwin dies in this? Who is Darwin?
>> Darwin Darwin is our lovely little blue blob uh on on our postcard down here that we start as. Um so let's just get into it. Here we go.
>> Oh, hello. I'm Chase, by the way. Uh, I am also a crab man. Um, >> uh, so yes, this little blue blob on the screen is Darwin, and he's not going to be blue for much longer because I >> So, did you just assume the gender of Darwin there?
>> No, I I know Darwin personally.
>> Oh, okay. Perfect. Thank you.
>> I know Darwin personally. We're We're all good. We're all good. But, um, yes, he is just a lovely little fella. Um, and you eat to level up. And leveling up means you evolve.
>> I know. Um, >> thank you. As emotional sport crab, >> normally normally my go-to is to be as big as possible, but I think I should try something different. So, I think we go for as a as small as possible run.
Um, so yeah, with this level up, you get an evolution. I'm going to go with small with the little mouse.
uh uh on the back of them on the back of each evolution uh most of them I think some are still missing but we have some fun little facts now I can't read so I'm going to ask you to read this out >> well thank you for passing over to that very confusing word >> that's why I dyslexic ADHD >> me too there we go pass that buck let's pass it along um the Russian shrew weighs as much as a paperclip >> that's not a lot >> that's not a lot if we've got paper clip at the back. We could do um the Estr and Shu experience and you can and we can pass it around and you'll take turns.
Just imagine it's a shrew.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, you can do this at home if you've got a paper clip. You can also hold a shrew.
>> Here's a paper clip I prepared earlier.
I'm joking. I'm joking. It's not scripted. Um but yes, we go around. Uh we have we start with one attack and there are these little blob fish around.
Um but Oh, it's second evolution.
>> Okay, what are we going for? I I'm quite a fan of saliva and the evolution, so I think that's what I'm going to go with. It's going to give us a boost in feeding speed and a plus one in regeneration, which I I honestly find the most helpful. Um, some, but not all, evolutions change how Darwin looks. So, if I were to select a beak here, I would in fact get a whole beak. Uh, saliva does do that, but he's blue, so you can't really see it. But he is just kind of dribbling all down himself.
>> We're evolving pretty quickly at the moment, which maybe is going counterintuitive of what was said that we must die. Just to point out, if you do die in this game, it does restart.
Yes.
>> Yes. So, it it's a rog light. Uh when you die, you restart. Um I didn't pick any at the start, but there are genetics which do sort of change how your run works. Sometimes you can get a plus in HP or there's a vegan one. And so if you want to do a whole vegan run, you can >> expect >> Yeah. Um you can be completely pacifist.
You can attack as much as you want. Um one of my personal favorite routes is just befriending everyone and getting them to do my dirty work. So I think I might try that at some point tonight, but I think I think this run is all about being as small and as nimble and as dodge worthy as possible. Um, these are all good.
>> I do kind of want a six-pack, but like a tail.
>> I mean, a tail. A tail. A tail. I think could be quite a nice little >> So, if I get a pigtail now here, will I actually have a tail?
>> Yes.
>> Okay.
>> It will it will give give us a tail. And uh there it unlocks a few. So, >> uh by by taking tail, I'm then able to I can't read big words. Pre prehensile.
Pre pretensei tail, so it's going to increase my feeding distance because I'm going to be able to grab with it.
Detachable tail, which is a favorite of mine, means it will just fall off uh occasionally and then the enemies will go after that instead of me. And then another favorite, which I think is going to be one of your favorites, is tail wag.
>> Oo.
>> Um where every 5 seconds there's a chance that you'll be able to charm.
I think the emotional support crab needs an emotional support needs physical support.
>> Oh, it's one provide the other. It's the hand keeps it's a circular economy.
>> Um, >> but yeah, tail wag there's a chance to like charm the fellas around you and like I said, get them to do >> that. It is interesting. This you you did mention that I would be into that not because I'm really into tail wwags, but I will maybe talking a little bit about sex later on or sexual selection, you know, or you know I know. I know.
>> Just it was just a little >> There we go.
>> Just a bit of foreshadowing for what's to come. But um I think if I'm going small and I'm going like dodge, uh I think I'm going to go with carropase just to get that damage resistance and plating, but it does lock me out of getting shell. Um we'll do a crab one. I promise we'll do a crab run as well. Um but you there are there are carization points. So the more crab you get, the more difficult the game gets because the fellas do more damage.
>> Interesting. And if you don't know what carization is, later we will have Ned talking about exactly this subject. Um, but you may have heard it before when he was featured on BBC Radio 4 talking about it as well.
I know. Very fancy.
>> I did. I poisoned myself with the mushroom, unfortunately. Uh, don't don't eat strange mushrooms if you don't know what they are. Uh, >> every mushroom is edible at least once.
>> Everything Everything is edible at least once. Uh, we don't >> So, at the moment, we're still eating.
We're still in the eating phase. We're not really Is there big creatures that are going to affect us at all?
>> So, yeah, let's go with physical here and get that six-pack. At the top here, we do have >> So, at the moment, you are, as you're going around, you're gobbling up all this food.
>> Nice.
>> Uh, but at the top here, we do have like a timeline of of time really. Uh, and there are little icons across it occasionally, and those are big bosses. So, while there are just like little guys kind of around at the moment, big big fellas will be coming uh to to try and eat meat, which we don't want.
>> We don't want that.
>> Uh, so the the idea is to evolve and pick as the evolutions that will help you survive or defeat.
>> We have revenge here. Is that is that a common evolutionary trait? Uh I've not seen that in many uh crab species or beyond, but um >> maybe not the crabs you've met.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Uh it does. Yeah. Revenge is a good one because if you get hurt, it's like, "How dare you hurt me? I'm going to hurt you back, but worse."
But I'm going to go even smaller and try and turn into a speck of dust.
small hat.
>> So, at the moment, all these other creatures, this is So, are these just a morphic sort of blobs?
>> Yeah, these are blobfish.
>> Blobfish.
>> Yeah, you know, you know the the little blobby guys.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, as as >> as you killed that blobfish, it was nice knowing you. Thanks. Yeah. Yeah.
>> A sacrifice for the for the cause. Um, exist. Uh, as we go through time, uh, everything around us is going to start to get a little bit more crab like >> uh, uh, more eyes, I think, is a good one to take here because it's getting nighttime and it's a little bit dark.
>> Okay, so what's happen now? It's night.
Okay, this this is spooky.
>> It is a little bit spooky at night time.
So, yeah, it it gets dark. There's a nighttime daytime cycle. Nighttime daytime. Um, and this this sort of darkness creeps in on you. Uh, but if you take the evolution like more eyes and increase your senses, the circle is bigger, so you're able to see more.
How about He's just little guy. He's just a pal.
>> Kill it.
>> No, I I refuse. I refuse.
Fine. I tell you that my first play through I did of this, I tried to do a sort of sort of pacifist run, but I I hadn't really come to grips with the game and I was not doing that well and end up killing a lot of things.
>> Yeah, I've pacifist with like a social build is really good. Um just increasing your social means that these guys leave you alone a little bit more unlike those two.
>> Oh, so things are more aggressive right now.
>> Yes. Um, so if I go into tab, uh, we have our affinities here. Um, so we got predator, prey, uh, gregarious. That's a big word for me.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, imposing, and trickster.
>> You're not You're less imposing. Oh, cuz you're small.
>> Yes, cuz I'm small. Cuz I'm small. I'm I'm not imposing at all. I'm just a little guy.
>> Just a little guy.
>> Uh, but if we increased gregarious, sorry, it's a big word for me. Um, increasing our social it's more likely that the the enemies that would normally come after you are going to just kind of ignore you a little bit and be like, "Not worth it. Not worth it at all." Um, but if you have some evolutions that allow you to charm like uh tail wag or toe beans, uh, >> toe beans.
>> What does toe beans do? Or will we find Well, should we wait and see if we get toe beans?
>> If I get arms, yes.
I like a little toeby surprise.
>> Um the the artwork for it refreshing.
The artwork for it is very adorable. Um more eyes or elusive?
>> Well, if you had more mass you could be small but like mass like a small but big >> but like wide shouldered small little man syndrome.
We could it would increase my max HP, but uh I'm going to stick with just becoming a speck of dust and go with the elusive.
Look at Look at this big guy. I'm going to take him on. This was a bad idea.
I've got no other attacks other than bop.
Um, we got to >> I say we kill it.
>> I I say we. You guys definitely helped there. I promise. Uh, >> but look.
>> Okay, so we're back. It's daytime. Oh, blob.
>> Blobfish is a >> looks a bit different.
>> Blobfish is more crab.
>> Wait, so everything is is so the the circle of life is still like So everything is there is everything's attacking each other, trying to eat each other. Everything else is trying to evolve while you're also evolving.
>> So, the blobfish and the hatbs.
>> Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I'm sorry.
>> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What the heck is this?
>> Uh, this is just crab tour. Don't mind them.
>> I don't I I do mind if you if I have you know, >> so this is our first of four bosses. Uh, and crab tour is cow crab.
>> Of course, you know, of course.
>> Of of course. Exactly. Um, I really I'm unsure I'm going to be able to take Crabtour on because I don't really have many attacks. But this bar underneath Crab's health uh is a little surrender bar. I could basically be like, I I'm just going to ignore you until you're bored and you leave me alone.
>> You just wait out.
>> Yeah, it's So it's it's not just about being the best. It's also just about survival.
Leave me alone.
>> That is evolution in a nutshell. Really, people always thought it was survival of the fittest, but actually, you know, it's just kind of just getting by, throwing stuff at a wall and see what sticks.
>> Ooh, >> what we iron up?
>> Uh, scavenger just because I'll level up a lot quicker, but also my getting my reach up and getting that attack area is also very good. I'm I'm avoiding scales because I would like to get exoskeleton.
I mean, exoskeletons are a vibe.
>> It is. It's a step towards crab as well.
>> Huge vibe.
>> Um >> Um So, but that's the thing. So, if you got scales, there's no chance of getting >> exos getting exoskeleton.
>> Nope. So, you can either scales, fur, or exoskeleton. So, there are a few um that like lock you out. Scavenger here would lock me out from ever becoming vegan because I'm going to have to rely on the meat that other people have left behind.
Mhm.
>> And attack attack area reach that doesn't lock that doesn't lock me out of anything. Um but as well as locking out of stuff, it can unlock things. So I'm going to go with scavenger here.
>> So are we a crab yet?
>> Not really.
>> Oh, can you let me know when we're a crab? Yeah.
>> Kind of to one thing. So, so but at the moment we've taken too many other traits really in the >> Yeah, I've kind of ah I've kind of I'm I'm I've kind of gone away from crab for the first run. I should have gone I should have lent immediately into crab cuz that's why everyone is here.
There we go. And that's the boss surrendering and dropping a boss fruit which gives me a branching evolution. So this is >> um this is to beans >> that >> so if I took arms I could get to be >> this cute little to >> it's very small right now but I promise you it's a very cute picture of a cat.
Um but next to it is also Pinser >> which is crap. Uh, and by taking Pinsa, we could also unlock Pistol Pinser. And I don't know if if you guys know about like a pistol mantis.
>> Talk about pistol shrimps. Yeah, >> pistol shrimps. They they them's crazy, >> mate. Absolutely.
They always ride shotgun.
>> Yeah, the the big scary boys, but I'm actually going to go all the way down here and take wings.
>> So, you're a small dusty wing. Emotional sport crab does not agree with you there, it seems. Uh, what would you pick if you had to pick emotional support crab?
>> Okay, I wouldn't personally pick that, but uh, >> look, we all have our own opinions.
Emotional support crab, >> you look stay in your lane, emotional sport crab, >> well, this is this is my run, so I'm going to go with wings.
>> It's your it's your run. Go for wings.
>> The the terrain adaptation, it means I'm going to be able to well fly over the sand and snow. So, let's uh head into a different biome here.
>> New biome unlocked.
>> New biome unlocked. Uh so this is the desert as we go into nighttime. Perfect.
Um the desert there there are there's a weather system uh in this game. So in the grasslands, which I'm about to go back into, uh it rains and the rain will slow you down.
In the desert, there are heat waves which uh will cause heat damage to you and perfect timing. In the snowy biome, there are blizzards which not only push you around with their strong winds like that, uh, it also will eventually cause cold damage. Leave me alone.
Leave me alone.
>> Kill it.
>> Uh, I mean, we are in the snow, so fur would be really good, but I'm I'm >> Do you Do you really want to set up the shop in cold environment?
>> I kind of do. I kind of like it. And the fur is is cute.
And that's kind of, you know, like a furry little dust spec.
>> Nice saliva. What? Can we read the fact of saliva?
>> Convergent evolution, which is a vibe, actually, which is caronization in basically uh that's what it is. Um, convergent evolution does not only apply to crabs. As many animals have independently evolved to be more doglike, everything is dog.
>> Whoa.
>> That next game spoiler right there.
Crabs, crabs, crabs, crabs, crabs, crabs, crabs, crabs.
>> Uh, I think we go for fur just to see how different it makes Darwin.
>> For a little guy now. Tiny and dark, so you can't really see, but I I promise.
>> Darwin has come a long way.
>> Oh, I'm taking too much cold damage. I got to hide hide behind a tree with my blobfish friend.
It's playing.
>> Oh no, the weather got my blobfish friend. What a shame.
>> Oh, >> Bob the blobfish.
>> Bob, don't name him. Don't get Don't get attached to them.
Uh, and our final biome uh before I was rudely interrupted by the evolution screen. Uh, what do you think?
>> What? Well, what do you think? I'm going to pass the buck once more. Um, what have we got? So, we've got more eyes.
Tail or stomach. Maybe give us a give us some crab noises for more eyes.
Okay. Give us some crab noises for tail.
Oh, that was not as much. What about stomach?
>> I heard it. Yes.
>> I think I got the most crab noises.
>> I did, too. Uh, so we now have three.
Well, technically five, but three three eyes >> and see a lot more.
>> What's What's Can we go max eyes play through? If you uh if you've just got this game, tell us what a max eyes play through looks like.
>> Uh you can see so much. You can you can see colors that the human eyeball cannot perceive. Like the mantis.
>> Like the blue mantis. Well, don't get me sad. Well, actually potentially the mantis. So, obviously the mantis shrimp um being incredible because obviously in the eyes you have cones which see color and humans have three cones and we see all our colors because of three cones.
The mantis shrimp can have seven, which is mental cuz you'd think three cones would make all the colors we do. Seven cones surely means like untold amounts.
Uh but they actually do quite badly at experiments with color. So, it could be that they actually just only see seven colors and each cone just focuses on one color. Um, so just having the ability to see doesn't mean you actually see that pretty that well.
>> Take that, man.
>> Uh, I don't like any of these. I don't want them. So, I'm >> Well, we do. So, you have to pick.
>> No. No.
Uh, we have these mutagen points up here in the corner and I can use one to roll and get uh three new ones or 10 to upgrade them. So, currently these are all the blue rarity which I think is rare.
>> Uh, >> so you're going to roll.
>> I'm going to roll so we get new ones.
Oh, Jaws. I love Jaws. So, that's what we're going with. I'm not >> The shiny one was kind of shiny. I don't care.
>> But it's It was shiny.
>> But I want jaws. It's a shark.
>> Fine.
>> And now I have teeth that are microscopic.
>> Can we just actually like how much Darwin has changed? Like what? What the heck? Oh, no. We can do a closeup.
>> Sorry. This Wait, did you pick saliva earlier? Was that Is that why we've got little dribbling?
>> Just little dribbling.
>> It's got wings. It's got wings.
>> And fun fact about the wings, well, I think it's fun, uh, is depending on which affinity you most relate to, depends on what they look like. So, currently I have like bird likeish wings. Uh, but if you take if you if you're more into the gregarious affinity, uh, they're butterfly wings cuz you're a social butterfly.
>> Oh, that's nice, isn't it?
>> And they're pretty little little pink.
Oh, refreshing. You give it's very cavalerian on all these mushrooms. Uh >> uh so >> is it always good, sometimes bad?
>> No, they can be bad. I did get poisoned by one earlier. Uh as you walk by them, uh a little word pops up and that is how you identifying them essentially. Um but sometimes it's just question marks cuz you don't know what that mushroom is.
And I tend to take the risk and eat crabby bar.
>> Sorry. Wait, wait. Krabby Bar.
>> Krabby Bar is here.
>> Hey, Krabby Bar.
>> We love Krabby Bar. Krabby Bar is a friend who doesn't like violence.
>> So, don't don't kill him.
>> Don't kill him.
>> I love Krabby. Ky is friend.
>> I'm sorry. But what the Wait, who this?
>> No. No. Evolve quick. I want to see what who >> this this is. Uh, >> who this?
>> This is Spitfish.
>> This is Hello, Spitfish.
>> Uh, we saw one earlier in just in the water. Uh, just its head poking out of the water.
>> Uh, >> who's attacking Krabby Bar? Can you protect Krabby? Save Krabby Bar.
>> Well, but if I do violence even unto other violent doers, Krabby will be violent towards me.
>> We don't want that. But we do want to get rid of this spitfish.
Ah, so this heart, this scary looking heart, the evolution screen always comes up at the wrong times. Oh, I'm not doing a courting run game. I want this later. I want this later. Uh, we're going to go for scavenger. We'll get into courting later. Um, but this like scary purple heart uh basically means that that creature is charmed by a hatbu specifically. They do a little dance and then suddenly the other guys will do their evil doings.
>> Yeah, this this is absolute griefing you that >> is we're also about to go into a boss fight with >> Aquac looks aggro.
>> Wait, who's this now?
>> This is Aquaconda.
>> Who I I I genuinely don't think I'll be able to take on. This might be the end of this Darwin.
>> But you couldn't. So you couldn't you couldn't take the other one up, but if you was go if you went full aggression, you could take bosses like no problem.
>> Yeah, actually now I'm doing more. I think I could take on because I kind of forgot I had wings so I'm not slowed down in the water because I can fly over.
Oh, you know what? Easy peasy, >> mate. This is absolutely >> honestly this Darwin is is a little little bit uh feistier than I initially thought.
>> So this is Oh, you'd only get this if you're in the the water biome.
>> Uh no. So Aquaconda just creates water.
>> Just knows no bounds.
>> Yeah, it's like Oh, you're in the desert. Not anymore.
>> Terraforming.
>> Uh let's just keep going. upgrading that scavenger.
Oh, I think like two more hits, maybe three.
>> One. Oh, more than three.
>> Two more. One more.
>> Eat. Eat the aquafer. So, gobbling up.
>> Tasty. Tasty. All those all that evolution. There's a spitfish.
Uh jaws.
>> Does that give you even bigger jaw if you keep upgrading jaw?
>> Uh not necessarily, but uh some evolutions do have a specialization.
So, uh perfect example, legs here. Uh there's a little star. So, once I level it up three times, I'll be able to split into what kind of legs I want. Um, I believe legs specifically uh gives you arropod. Did I say that right?
>> Respect. Arthropods, >> which is crab legs.
>> That's a fact.
>> Uh, or bipedal, which will also give me arms. Uh, so you can sort of specialize what kind.
>> They're overrated.
>> What kind? Yeah, but pincers and toe beans.
>> Toeans.
But toes in the name implies that they are still feet.
tow beans.
>> I can't argue with that.
>> Uh, so I'm going to take legs.
>> Very nice.
>> And now I've got a little stumpy legs.
>> Mhm.
>> But water doesn't slow me down here.
Thank you for the fun tip because I have wings.
Uh, but as we can see, everything has slowly evolved around us. So the ttoids now have purple shells and a little leaf hat, and the beewes fart.
Uh, and the hatbs, even their hats have evolved.
>> Could skull >> scuttle >> scuttle >> skull is an absolute vibe of going round.
>> It is a step closer.
>> Oh, it's a crab. So, this is so we This is a could be a step closer to being >> This would be our first point into into carization.
>> Slowly Carsonizing. I mean, but the thing is though, I don't think we'll be able to get to a full crab by the end of this one.
>> Not in this one. Not in this one. Um because we do have a few minutes left of this game and then what else have we got planned? We do have a talk on castonization because we're just saying some big fancy words here. And you know what us I say us scientists. I'm not really a scientist. I mean look at me.
You think yeah don't trust a word I say.
Um we're going to explain probably what the heck carsonization is. Why do why does everything become crab? Or why is it not everything becoming crab? Um all will be told soon. Uh do we have a little break beforehand? We can have a little You could go drink at the bar crabies. You get yourself a Krabby. We got an offer on Krabies. You at home cannot buy this great deal we have in here for £5. You can get yourself a bottle of Krabies. Um >> to get yourself all the way to Margate just for that deal.
>> You'll probably make it in time. Um, and then even more playthroughs.
>> Yes, we go we do like a crab courting run. It'll be the the hottest crab around.
>> The crab caught around because maybe I can talk about, you know, sex and uh reproduction. Uh, >> the the crabs and the bees.
>> Maybe through a little little more specific central run. Maybe maybe we can put some sexy music on later.
>> Here we go. We can specialize our fur.
I am into that.
>> What? How do we do this?
>> Uh, so we can either snow dive.
>> Oh, >> which is very very fox like being able to So when we dash or scuttle in this case, there's a 20% chance to spawn in some food. Um, or we can go for wool, which means that not only does do we have the cold adaptation, which means the cold doesn't damage just as much, but 50% of that is also heat adaptation because wool is a really good insulator.
>> And the wool one is really cute. I don't actually know what the snow one snow dive looks like, so I might have to go for that just to cuz I always go for wool. It's just a woolly little >> speck of dust.
>> Little woolly speck of dust. But we'll go for we're going for a snow dive. Oh, I'm a fox.
>> Wow.
>> Hat. Look how small I am compared to HatB.
And they are little guys.
>> Um, >> what does this mushroom do? Who knows?
>> Who knows? Also, if people in the chat as well, cuz if you've got cool crab questions to ask, maybe next time we come back, we'll answer as well cuz someone did ask, is this a giant crab in the background? And the answer is heck yes it is. Um, not only is it a crab, is there a model of the giant Japanese spider crab as well?
>> It's one of my favorite crabs.
>> We just move this video game and stuff out the way. We I can talk about it properly, but it's it's in the way. But um, some a lovely students made this for us as well. This is a twosize model because I get to about the size about 4 and 1/2 m wide.
>> Hell yeah.
>> Which is pretty impressive.
>> I have like a a proper spider crab out on my Animal Crossing island. He's just chilling. He's just out and about with his legs.
It's quite the span has gone it.
>> The big boys.
>> The big boys.
>> Unlike our Darwin little No.
No.
>> Uh, antenna is crab, but elusive is small.
>> So small.
>> Antenna is I guess I mean it is crab as well. And actually crabs have antennules as well, which is very specific to crabs. But antennas, I'm I'm a I'm a big fan. But I'm biased anyway.
Um, now we are going towards the um buying a drink at the bar section and no talk. We're going Oh, we're going straight to talk. Ignore me. I'm Do you mind? You talk. You do your thing. We're just going to keep playing video games.
No, there's going to be a talk now on customization.
We're going to bring Ned back up, uh, who is going to explain in maybe incredible detail or maybe briefly cover it all. It's a big subject. Um, but we're going to have that talk. Then we'll have a little drink of the bar.
Then you'll have a chance to play the game yourself as well in the little room as well. If you do, if you just at home, just buy it and then you can play it.
Um, what you doing watching us? Just go just go buy and play it. Um, uh, and then we'll come back to play some more playthroughs as well. So, thank you. So thank you Eli and thank you Darwin >> and thank you emotional support crab.
>> You've been there for me >> more than you know.
>> I will I will specs.
>> There we go.
>> Run.
>> Well, thank you. Come up Ned as well.
Here we go. Thank you very much, Chase.
Thank you very much, Eli. Thank you very much. Emotional support crab. Um, wow.
This is fun, isn't it? Now, I'm going to try and keep the away with he crab.
All right. Now, there was a big word dropped in quite a lot there.
Carsonization. It's a big word. We like it. What does it mean? Has anyone in here heard of Carsonization? Hands up >> or Whoop. Whoop. If you've heard of Carsonization.
>> All right. Okay. Cool. Well, great.
People who haven't, where have you been?
Um, but what is it? We are going to find out. Uh, and I am sorry because It's it's been me'd quite heavily.
Carsonization and I might be about to break some hearts, but um it as a meme is partly why we're here really.
Carsonization and the idea that everything evolves into a crab for some reason is all over the internet. It's why probably this game is partly involved exists rather and it's maybe even why this museum exists. But before we get into carsonization, we need to ask the big question that may seem simple, but what even is a crab? Now, everybody, please close your eyes.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Picture yourself on a beach. The sun is shining. The waves are lapping at your feet.
Birds float in the light swelling wind.
Your skin is warm. The sun is shining.
The waves are lapping at your feet.
Birds float in the swelling wind. Your skin is warm. You are at peace. You feel a nibbling at your toes.
It It is a crab.
Meditative pause.
What does that crab look like?
Hold it in your mind now. Open your eyes.
Okay. Can I have a hand up, please, and tell me what did your describe your vision of a crab to me?
>> It was it was the emotional support crab.
I literally I couldn't get out of my mind.
>> I think you've ruined science for me.
>> Okay, let's try again.
Is anybody picturing their crab in their mind? What does it look like? What does it look like to them? Hand up. Who who has a picture of a crab in their mind?
>> It looks beautiful.
>> Can you describe it?
>> NO.
WELL, TOUGH CROWD. UM, so when I meditate and when I think about crabs, I imagine them as flattened, their abdominal flap folded up underneath to protect their soft belly.
But that's a crab, right? Did any of you think of a hermit crab?
Well, you'd be wrong because a hermit crab is not a crab.
Science says you are wrong.
The idea, >> excuse me, >> because with within that idea of a crab that we held in our minds during that meditation, there are actually two families. Um, they are each other's closest relatives. We have over here in the blue corner the true crabs, the brachiiora. Those are the flattened ones, the kind of classic crab. And then over there, the hermit crabs. They are the anamura, the the false crabs we sometimes call them. Now, these true crabs, they're the ones that we might picture in a drawing. They're the ones that we might more often see lifting up a rock and looking underneath and saying, "Ah, flattened crab. Hello."
And in the false crabs I say we've got hermit crabs, not crab. We've got snow crabs, not crab. We've got coconut crabs, not crab.
The brachi, the true crabs, they are separate families, right? They exist in totally different worlds. The last common ancestor they had was about 300 million years ago. So they have been doing their crab thing for a very long time, traveling down very different roads, still well trod. When it comes to humans, the last common ancestor we had with all of our mammal friends 300 million years ago was called a synapsid.
Oo, it's kind of like a lizard. A sort of like small ratsized lizard with a big sail on its back. So, if we think about that in comparison to all the mammals that we know and love, crabs really, they've not gone too far in different directions. They've they've held it down and they've stayed the course. Um, so these these two families of Anamura and Brachi, the true crabs and the false crabs, they've been on their journey for a very long time, but we can still connect them together because the idea of a crab still counts for something.
Thank God. And this is where Carsonization comes in, right? Because it describes how these two different families have come to the same body form even though they've been on such wildly different journeys through genetics because genetically they're super super apart, right? But then somehow closely related still evolution. It's confusing like that. Now, the study of Carsonization started in about 1916 with a hilariously English uh sounding biologist called Lancelot A. Boredale.
It's really good.
>> So, Lancelot was out there observing the huge numbers of crab species and trying to find some kind of common ground between them. Um, basically Lancel was trying to put them in a box and lots of science is all about putting things in boxes. Uh, which is I don't know, maybe not helpful all the time, but it does it does help us when we need to find out which one's poisonous, I suppose.
Essentially, he was trying to find out what makes a crab a crab. And that is a question that we're still 110 years later stuck on. And he noted this similarity amongst lots of crablike animals. He wrote and I quote, "The phenomenon which may be called carcinization consists essentially in a reduction of the abdomen of the macruous crustation together with a depression and broadening of its sephiloththorax so that the animal assumes the general habit of body of a crab."
Speaking of a lobstery thing, he wrote, and I paraphrase, "This is one example of animals evolving into crabs, of which there are five," he then found. Since then, many more. Lots of things are evolving into crabs. And essentially, what he was looking at though were crablike animals. So, this is crablike animals evolving into more crabby versions of themselves. And it's the crablike or the crab adjacent bit that often gets forgotten when we're talking about caronization. And when all the memes that we see online are about carsonization, they kind of miss the point a little bit when it comes to carsonization because the story is that everything is evolving into crabs, right? But to become a crab, you need to have some of the building blocks there already. In order to get to level six crab, you need to have level one pincers, right? So Carsonization, it's also just one example of that kind of thing happening. Carsonization is one example of convergent evolution. As we mentioned earlier, convergent evolution is where things evolve the same traits over time from from different places like fur for example or eyes. A human eyes and octopus eyes remarkably similar. But it's been a long time since me and an octopus were pals.
Now on top of that, you also need to be an environment in which it is beneficial to be a crab. Um, and this game is a good example of how environmental pressures like predators or food sources almost kind of force you to become a crab. They force you to be well adjusted to your environment. But out there in the human world, it's maybe unlikely that we will become crabs because we don't really I know. Oh. Oh, it's sadder than that.
>> Oh, it's even sadder than that.
Because out there in the human world, we don't need hard shells. We don't need weird swiveing eyes. We don't need claws. Sometimes we do. We don't need an abdominal flap protecting our soft underbelly, which is which is sad for me. Um because despite everything, despite all of the life I've led, my descendants may never become a crab.
Oh, it's sadder than that.
>> But look, if there is so much sort of disagreement on what makes a crab a crab, I can still take some comfort in the words of biologist Gard Schultz, who wrote, "A crab is what we perceive as a crab." Because squat lobsters, they're not crabs, but they look like crabs.
Hermit crabs, they're not crabs, but they look like crabs. Coconut crabs.
They're not crabs, but they look like crabs. If what we perceive of something is that it's a crab, then who cares about the science? It can be a crab.
>> So, if we dream big enough, we can attain crab status. If only in the eyes of others.
Thank you. Um, now we're going to take a little break now.
We're going to have a short intermission. So, uh, go for a Wii, buy a drink, uh, chat amongst your friends, make new ones, play the game in the other room. And again, thank you all for coming and we'll be back soon. Woohoo!
Hello.
That's right.
Hey.
All right.
education.
everybody. Everybody Come on.
Come on.
Okay, everybody.
The intermission is going to be ending very soon, so take your places and there might be a small present on your seats for you. Don't worry, it's not poisonous. But make your way to your seats.
Thank you.
Oh my god.
All right.
And as the crab music from the loading screen fades away, I welcome you all back into the world of Everything Is Crab.
>> Oh yeah. And I think that we're waiting on a special guest coming through. He'll come. But before that, I'd like to welcome back to the stage Chase, the director, who's going to be talking with us. So, please take your seat there, Chase.
>> Oh, thank you so much. Thank you so much and to Ned as well for the crabs crabating talk.
>> Oh, I know. I've got quite the vau crabulary on me. Um hopefully it's not a clause for concern. Um this I just basically just have a document on my phone of crab puns. This is it's quite long. Um it's pretty excellent if you uh if you ask me. Um which nobody did. Um, nobody asked me to do this. I just keep making a list. Um, Shadow Crabet, that's one for you. Um, all's fair and love and claw. Um, so that's just how it be sometimes. Um, now we're going to go back into the other run.
>> Yeah.
>> No, you're going to continue our run.
We're going to continue our run.
>> We're like We're like right there.
>> We're like right there. Well, the thing is before we start though, we do have to introduce Oh, yes, of course. Of course.
Uh, come on. There is You might have found some little stickers all on your um Oh, wow.
Oh, it's more interesting than that. Oo.
Oh, it's more interesting than that.
Woo.
>> Um, the uh uh friends here have uh basically given us a bunch of stickers that you can stick all around. Not in this museum um or our personal private property. Um but maybe in public your own places, your own, you know, do stick on your own damn stuff. Not on our walls. Um uh we a lot of people do stick stickers on our walls and it's it's fine. Um but firstly, I mean, we are missing someone here. We maybe need to do a little round of applause >> for the emotional support.
Emotional support crab.
Emotional support crab.
>> Hello.
>> Hello. Emotional crab. And the thing is, how are you doing? You always there for me and us.
Wow. It's that bad, is it?
>> Have you thought about talking to someone about this?
>> I know. It's very expensive these days.
Whoa. Okay, that's maybe something for a later time. This uh sounds very deep that. Um, but thank you for joining us again anyway. Um, >> they always ask where's the emotional support crab, not how's the emotional support crab.
What? What a day. E, >> he's not getting paid anything for this as well.
I was I don't know if anyone could see this from the the live stream in terms of there is a man dressed in a crab outfit playing a trombone. I think it's just out of maybe just so everyone can see a little bit come a little bit closer. Most of us support crab. Come a little a little bit closer. that this is, see, this is just something you're missing out. If you are watching at home, you should be here. Sorry. Carry on. We're playing video games.
>> It's okay. I I appreciate the emotional support crab, so I think we should.
>> Round of applause.
>> Maybe I'll just keep saying crab puns from my list later on as well.
>> We're here to celebrate. So, you know, >> it's on there. It's on there. Don't worry. If you if anyone can come up with a crab pun that isn't on my list, I'll you'll get a free drink.
>> Yeah, cuz it could be pretty frustrating to think of them. You know, like crustation. Crusty.
>> What?
>> Sorry. Where So where were we at? We were How far in the evolutionary tree are we?
>> Uh some.
>> Some.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> We're only one point into customization.
>> Just one.
>> Okay.
>> Just >> But maybe we'll double down on that later.
>> Yeah. I I it's it will pay off. It'll pay off.
>> Jesus crabs.
>> I'm gonna go a tail here. Get a little tail going. Uh we do have one more boss to fight as we can see up here. We're going to face Crabaroo. And then there's a scary uh question mark which is scary.
>> Oo.
>> Exactly.
>> It could be anything. Oh my days.
>> This is Krabaroo who has uh it's actually Krabaroo+ who has super turned into crab. succumb to castonization, one may say.
>> Wow. Um, don't we all?
>> Uh, >> so what? Crabaroo is what? What is Krabaroo doing here? Who Who are they?
What they doing? What's their vibe?
>> So, Krabaroo punches and has an enemy.
An enemy. An an enemy.
>> Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
>> Uh, boxing gloves, which will cause poison damage, which I believe is much like the crab that the crab. That one crab that does that.
>> The slender clawed boxer crab. um or sometimes known as the pom pom crab that um so clearly you've done your damn research um because there is a crab that will put an anemy in each one of its claws and use it either as a way of defense because obviously the poisonous sting of an an enemy is does not affect the crab and it will use it to protect itself much like craboo is doing here.
Um but I know what you're saying is how does this uh crab eat >> Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. A no.
Nice.
>> I was defeated by poisonous.
>> It's fine. We're live in the We're live.
>> It was I don't know what what you mean.
What we meant to do now. This is meant to meant to go on foot.
>> So much.
>> Well, I guess I guess we just kind of hit the continue button. Seriously.
>> All right. Okay. Uh, so unlocks the codeex. So, um, as it says on the screen, >> uh, but for those of you like myself who can't read, it says, "Track your progress and aim for 100% completion in the codeex." Um, we're going to go check that out. Now, what else have I unlocked? Uh, so when you start the game, you don't just have every evolution ever available to you off the bat. Um, you're going to have to play to unlock some. So here we unlocked snout which means the mushrooms that have appeared throughout the game will appear as little icons on the side of your screen. So if you're seeking mushroom, you can find mushroom or I've I've seen a few people that really do seek mushrooms >> in my time.
>> Or you can become really shifty. So uh the smaller you get, the higher your dodge chance is. So really in that run I needed to be a little bit shifty, but I didn't have it.
>> I like how they've kind of personified or anthropomorphized the idea of shiftiness with a monkey. Um, also personified as cheeky >> stealing some bananas, >> cheeky things. But to think of it, we humans are primates. So maybe we are inherently >> sneaky.
>> Yeah. just >> or cheeky.
>> Uh, and then I've also unlocked some genetics. So, at the start of a run, if you get to the very first boss, you don't need to defeat it, but if you get to the very first boss, the next time you start a run, you'll be able to use genetic splicing. So, you get to choose two. But if you do not do that, you only get one.
That's that's evolution for you.
>> Uh but we're going to go to the homepage and check out the codeex Darwin's Guide to Carsonization. Uh in here we have stats. We have the beastiary. We have the uh evolutions, genetics, and achievements. So in the stats, uh this is not my version of the game, so I don't know how many stats there are.
>> Cuz yours are like loads better, right?
>> Yeah, mine are like I'm really sorry, Chris, because this is yours, but mine are like so much better than this.
Um, but yeah, you can see your play time, your total runs, and your win rate. Um, which evolutions you sort of pick the most. Uh, most successful.
There's no data here. Chris, what are you doing?
>> Why is there no data?
>> Put his hands up. Yeah.
>> Okay. Sure. Sure. Sure. Uh, and then my creations. So, here you can see some Darwins that you have uh played with.
Um, you get six and there's a little star and we can favorite them. So, let's favorite little dust might Darwin.
>> A little >> He's just a little guy >> with his three eyes and a dribbling all over.
>> Nobody's perfect. Okay.
>> Uh but we can also go look at the beastiary. So, we can see all the little guys we have uh come across on our runs.
And as you can see, we have blobfish and we have blobfish plus and then blobfish plus plus. And they're just getting a little bit more crabby as we go along.
Uh, don't worry about the eyeballs on on the rabbit's tail.
>> I mean, it feels like something I should be worried about.
>> No, no, no, no, no. Um, and of course, everybody's favorite. And if it's not your favorite, I'm going to give you evil eyes. Uh, Hatb here. They're just little guys. They're smart and cute. The whole package.
>> Hatb.
>> Hatb. And then hatb plus. hat. So now hats evolve too, >> obviously.
>> I see. Take notes, B. You You're uh you clearly missed out so many scientific facts.
>> Exactly. Exactly. We haven't We haven't seen hatb number three, which is my favorite hatb because they're all my son.
>> The finest of the hatb.
>> Exactly. Exactly. Uh but there's a lot of fellows to come across.
>> Spitter frog.
Here we do have a little spider frog.
>> And spit spitter frog's tongue contains a light toxin that confuses its prey.
>> Yeah. So they kind of go >> and then they hit you.
>> Its main survival strategy is being cute.
>> It's weak to tongue twisters.
>> Aren't we all?
>> Yeah, a little bit. Uh and then under this line we have the big bosses. So Crab talk, Aquaconda, and >> Oh, there's so many big bosses.
>> Yes. And all of them have like a plus and a plus plus.
>> Plus, they they all No, just just two pluses. They all they all get a little bit more crabby. So, the first plus you come across is going to be tiny bit crabby. Then the second one will be a little bit more crabby. And then the third one will be super crabby. So, craboo's ears have turned into little crab eyes.
>> Ah, ocular padunks. Uh, as >> that's a good word.
>> That's a great word. Any chance to say the word ocular padunk do so. um and what fine ocular podunks um that uh that Crabaroo has.
>> Um oh what was I saying? Yeah. So basically they've done the research because that is quite a specific crab um that you puts an enemies in each one of its claws. Um I wouldn't say a kangaroo uh has has been observed to do this. But maybe it's just evolution has not had its time yet.
>> Yeah. Give it give it time. Give it a chance few million years. And here we have uh all of the evolutions available.
Um the ones that we have picked are unlocked. Uh and then the ones that we have seen but maybe not chosen uh don't have the question mark over them. A little locked symbol because we are yet to to choose them or uh uh and then as we get further down. This is one this is one we're going to be looking at. We're going to be looking at things because maybe in the run throughs we're going to maybe do a little example of cing amongst crabs.
I've seen a crab looking at me.
>> Uh and then the genetics uh of which we uh have yet to unlock many but we you know plus 10 HP is really good so we'll survive. Uh and then finally achievements. Uh you achieve them. I don't know what else to say. You you you achieve them. an underachchiever like me. Will I still get many?
>> Okay, it's fine. Your silence said more than words will ever go. Are you my parents? Jeez.
>> Yeah, some of these.
>> Can someone say they're really proud of me? My dad's voice. Um, >> okay. Don't do it. Don't cry. It's fine.
>> Uh, some of these have some special unlocks. Uh, So, beating all of the challenges, which we haven't unlocked any of yet, >> gets you a new cosmetic.
>> Hot dang.
>> So, along with the game launching today, a supporter pack also launched. And with the support pack, uh is four cosmetics.
>> So, did you have to use fingers to count to four there?
>> Yes, I did.
>> Yeah, that's good to know. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Um you get uh a new cosmetic for exoskeleton.
Uh, more eyes, pinser, and pistol pinser in the theme of, get this, ghost crab.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, I don't know.
>> Horn tipped or just regular ghost crab?
>> Regular ghost crab.
>> Fair enough. I mean, you know, they're both vibes. They're basically the same one. Just has more tips on its eyes. Or it's ocular podunks.
>> Padunks. Uh so yeah, these are uh these these ones are like the standard just what they look like, but these are the ghost crab ones which I'm going to turn on as we become more crab. But there are other other free cosmetics to unlock.
>> Nothing in this world's free these days, but seems these cosmetics are just >> it's a big plus.
>> Um but I say we get into a really crabby run.
>> I mean, I've been I've been waiting >> for this. The game is called Everything is Crab and there's been no crabs.
>> Not nearly enough crabs. Emotional support crab is is ready and raring.
>> Come on. We're going to get to that later.
>> Uh so I think the goal with this this run is to become as crab as possible.
>> Mhm.
>> Uh which means we're not going to take fur straight off the bat. Uh I'm going to go with regen just because That's important, you know.
>> Well, I mean, crabs do have regenerative uh properties. Every time they mold, they can regrow parts of their limbs.
>> Oh, straight away. Look, the game wants it. Excellent.
>> Yes.
>> Let's go. We're going to get crabby.
>> Let's go. Crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab CRAB CRAB CRAB CRAB.
>> WOO!
>> SO, YES. And as we can see, we are ghost crab instead of regular crab. I can tell that due to its light kind of coloration on its exoskeleton.
>> Yeah, exactly.
>> Here we go. Now this is why here this is why this is why everyone we're going to get some crab. Um >> okay.
>> Let's do a a reroll.
>> No, we don't want carropase. We don't want carropase.
>> No, we don't want carropase. I >> I think we go with chunky >> chunk.
>> Chunky.
>> Chunky >> just to be big. Big >> big big >> chunky crab.
>> Big crab.
>> How chunky were we thinking? You know, >> like so chunky.
>> Two coconut crab level. I mean, they are the largest land dwelling arropods.
>> I think bigger >> bigger than >> bigger.
>> So as far as big as the giant Japanese spider crab like the one we have behind us there as well.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Like like >> I can't wait.
>> But also like wide.
>> Yeah. Okay. Wide.
>> Large. Like like my really fat cat.
>> Oh, you got a chunky cat. Yeah, I got a really fat cat.
>> Sick. What's the cat called?
>> Argo.
>> Argo.
>> Argo.
>> The chunky cat.
>> He is a fat boy.
>> Shout out Argo if you're watching this at home.
>> He won't be.
>> Uh, let's go with more eyes. It's not a crab evolution, but we did just put on >> the ghost crab eyes.
>> I mean, that would be pretty cool, actually.
>> Some of the finest eyes actually in all of the Whoa.
I mean, there's some ocular podunks I ever saw. some ocular pod.
>> Yes.
>> Oh, we love to see it.
>> Also, some of the finest eyes in the crab kingdom, the ocular pad uncle. Um or the in the ghost crab. Um >> it's pretty impressive.
>> How impressive.
>> Oh, it's very impressive. Well, they can spot instantly. So, there's a part of their eyes at the top. You see, if you're going to get me talking about crabs, I'm going to talk about crabs.
>> It's why we're all here.
>> So, the top part of their eyes basically doesn't even process visual stimuli.
just instantly recognizes anything that above it because it obviously the only thing that above it is predators and that's his birds trying to basically come and eat it. The thing is though, see a predator isn't the only thing that will save you from being eaten. It's combined with uh it's some of the fastest legs and the fastest moving crab there possibly is from about 4 and a half meters a second. So as soon as it spots can instant respond to that of a predator and then >> run away. It's a speedy boy.
>> That's the thing. Evolution, fight or flight is the classic saying.
>> Yeah.
>> Um but also it's not the way as we've seen in evolution as well. There is different ways we can evolve. We you can basically um avoid creatures. You can be cute. You can uh uh >> which is what we're going to do. We can become the cutest the biggest cutest crab ever.
>> This is pretty cute. Which one you going for? Go for whiskers on this. No, >> I I I think I'm going to go with more masters. Go chunky.
>> Big boy. Uh, >> big boy.
>> I like the fact on this one just cuz I'm a big fan of like whales. Uh, but a blue whale's tongue can weigh up to 3,600 kg, which is roughly the weight of an adult female African elephant.
>> Oo. And again, if you if you did the shrew experiment earlier with the uh with the paper clip, if you have an African ele female African elephant at home, you can do this experiment as well. you can find out how much blue whales weighs. I'd quite like because there's so many different avenues of obviously because so much classic uh Darwin early things evolution you think it's survival of the fittest the biggest the strongest you fight off you know you run away from situations there is actually another f sometimes in evolution there's fight there's flight and there is fornicating because obviously there isn't sometimes you might like a Darwin when he was first um obviously looking at um all these kind of creatures and was like, "Wow, evolution. It makes sense."
>> Crab.
>> Oh, we got another crab. Crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab.
>> New crab bit unlocked.
>> Um but Darwin, not this Darwin. The actual the OG Darwin >> Charles. Um legend in the game.
>> Charlie.
>> Uh oh, Charlie. Oh, Charlie D. Um >> Charlie D. Um, but it's obviously like really confusing like why the heck do uh peacocks exist? Cuz obviously that's not going to help them fight out of a situation. That's not going to help them run away from a situation. They're really burdened by these pretty um crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab.
>> The the pins.
>> Yeah, it's kind of looking a bit hermit crabby.
>> No, not a crab. Not a crab.
Oh, it's getting heated in here.
Um, but yeah, Dar was really confused by peacocks and he's like, well, how is how is this um beautiful sort of plumage on a peacock going to help them get out of this situation? But they realize it's just for showing off because social features also develop on creatures showing off.
Um, things like uh the fiddler crab has beautiful the males sexual dimmorphism.
So, the male crabs will have this humongous claw that's very impressive and it will be used as a way for showing off to say, "Hey, look at my impressively big claw. Would you like to come hang out in my burrow? Look at the impressive dances I can do with uh uh with this claw." So, it's one of many ways that um uh that evolution can be shaped not just by being big and strong or running away and being quick. kind of just showing off.
Um, how we doing in here? What we still eating?
>> So much food.
>> Yeah. Oh, elusive.
>> Well, we don't want that cuz we're big boy.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Big boy.
>> Hollow bones. I mean, we got exoskeletons. Oh, antennas, though.
>> Yeah. Yeah. We could just level up the antennas.
>> Yeah. Respect. Let's do that.
>> Yeah. Okay.
>> I mean, I'm sorry I made that decision.
I'm just >> You want to play?
>> Um, you You're doing it so well, though.
Yeah. Uh, there we go. Do you want to read out the fun fact?
>> Ah, okay. Because antenna are paired, insects are able to smell in stereo.
>> Whoa.
>> Holy heck. Detecting the difference in concentration to triangulate the odor source.
>> Oh, >> wow. That's pretty impressive. I know moles can also smell in stereo as well.
>> Let's go into the desert. Oh, actually, yeah, let's It's risky. It might get a bit spicy.
>> It's It's It's almost getting after hours. It could Things could get the spicier facts.
Does anyone want to lost cheeky spicy fact about crabs?
No. No. Okay, that's fine.
>> It's a very prudish bunch here. We have Yeah. Yeah.
>> Uhoh. Crabs have two penises.
>> Whoa.
>> Who said that?
>> Chunky.
>> It is getting a bit warm. There is in fact a heat wave in the desert. But uh I can stand by this cactus and survive in its minimal shade. Um but that little >> Oh, craboo. Gone straight into craboo this time.
>> Enemy from last time. I shall vengeance my previous Darwin. My dust might Darwin.
>> Come on, Crab. Yeah, >> mate. You absolutely bolded Krabaroo that time around.
>> Exactly.
>> I mean, he had got the chance to evolve, I guess.
>> No, he was only only just regular Krabberoo.
>> Just regular crabby.
>> No, no extra crab. Uh, and here, see, we could get we could take arms to get pinces, but we could also use 10 to roll and get legs and then level up legs and then take the specialization to get more legs.
>> Ah, more legs, >> more legs, more. The crowd is at least some more legs. Uh, I hope we get legs in this reroll.
>> Yes. Yes.
>> Which also unlocks Scuttle, which we know is already crab.
>> So, >> pretty crab. And we're going ghost crab vibes. We're really cosplaying as ghost crab.
>> He's got little stubby crab legs.
>> Well, they're not crab legs yet, >> but they will.
>> Is it Is that blue its tongue or is it alive?
>> I'm I'm dribbling everywhere.
>> Yeah.
Obviously absolutely smashed through this play throughout being a crab cuz obviously being a crab is like loads better than >> Exactly. That's why everything is crab.
>> Everything is crap. But then once everything becomes crab is that mean nothing is crap.
>> That's like everything is or is not a potato in the universe.
>> Yeah. I mean that's a fact. Yeah.
>> Uh >> what you what's your thoughts?
Immediately we have someone going more mass, more mass, >> more mass, more mass. And it seems that person is you going trying to get the crowd going, "Oh, I think the crowd's spoken. More mass." Yeah. OH, NO.
>> I HEARD ONE. I heard one.
>> Yes.
>> We're going to be a big big boy. Look at all this food. And it's already cooked by the desert.
>> Absolutely numb that.
I mean >> I mean crabs don't have tails. In fact that's that in fact that is quite specifically one of the >> tra that whole thing is they lose their tail because it becomes their belly >> abdominal flap.
>> Yeah.
>> Yes.
>> It's a bit spicy on my new brand new toes. Uh we don't want leap.
>> Well I mean something like grap. Oh, Grais. Grabs us represent here. Um, sometimes known as the Sally Lightfoot um has exceptional leaping uh abilities.
Um, in fact, named apparently named after um on the island u a famous dancer um who used to dance around like a >> and if you imagine this crab basically did exactly that as well.
>> What about the fact that a flea can jump 120 times their height?
>> Wow, that's pretty impressive. Imagine if a person could do that.
>> That's uh there's only one way to find out.
>> Definitely a little uh a little a lot more lethal this time around.
All right, the people have spoken.
Oh, now there's at first, you know, you was kind of scared of the things in the night. Now they are scared of you.
>> Well, they should be.
>> You have become the hunter.
>> I'm not looking good at my health though.
>> Leave me alone.
>> This is absolute chongus. I'm sorry.
Wait, what just happened? What just Sorry. Can you explain just what happened there?
>> So, there are some little tiny holes that we have seen hats hiding in. Darwin can make use of them, too. Uh, however, the larger you are, the less time you can hide in them. So, I was only in there for a very short amount of time because we we got a big boy on our hands. But if you are tiny, you can just stay in there for like ages and just like hide.
>> But it was yours cuz you got too chunky cuz you went mass.
>> I wonder whose fault that is.
>> Uh, I'm going to reroll him. See if we can get something crabby.
>> Yeah, >> another reroll.
>> Go for another reroll.
>> I can't reroll again.
>> I guess regenerative again. Regenerative tissue.
>> It's a good one. It's a good one to have cuz we are not looking the healthiest.
>> So, one of the things uh actually OG Darwin or Charlie D uh was obsessed with, he was obsessed with barnacles. Ooh.
>> Um so much so that um whenever he used to go to people's houses, he would be like, "So um so where's your barnacle room?"
>> Um oh >> yeah, but as we found out, shells, hermit crabs are not crabs. Is that where you want to go down? Do you want to Do you want to go for a crab?
>> We already have a shell.
>> Oh, you already have a shell.
>> Yeah.
>> Wow. So you want to go force crab?
That's I thought we were going to go purist. Uh, but we could we could go we could go uh anime, I guess.
>> Oh, okay.
Can I have a cheer for body slam?
>> Can I have a cheer for shell >> antenna?
>> Just just a solitary Yeah. Yeah.
>> Uh I think I think Shell wins that as much as as you're dunking on hermit crabs. They have crab in their name.
>> That's fine. That's fine. Well, lots of things have crab in their name, like horseshoe crabs.
>> Uh and they're not crabs. Uh it's fine.
It's fine. The rules are there to frame.
It's fine. Damn you lin aliens for making this very clear-cut system of uh organizing creatures into scientific method. It's fine. Well, crabs also don't have cheek pouches, and that's what I'm going to pick.
>> Wow.
>> Unless you're about to tell me that there's a hamster crab out there.
>> Uh, but to be fair, cheek pouch, it means that we're going to be able to pick up food as we go, which means we're going to evolve faster and get to more crab faster.
>> That's okay. That's pretty impressive.
>> Yes. Um obviously crabs lacking cheeks um as they have sort of mandibles um which interestingly um basically developed from being part of their legs.
Their legs over time evolved uh and become part of their mouths and mandibles and that helped them sort of eat. Um, so it doesn't help them chew, uh, but it does help them taste their food, filter feed, um, numb it up, and then when the food is inside their stomach, it is the gastric mill that grinds all their food into a sort of paste, a gooey paste that they can then turn into poop.
>> Yummy.
>> Oh, yeah. But Darwin, so obsessed with barnacles, was like going to people's houses and like, "So, where is your where's your barnacle room?" um because he was just so obsessed and studying them his whole life as well. Um again they say autism didn't exas exist back in the day. There's Darwin going around.
Where is your barnacle room?
Come on. It was all there. Um but also cool fact about barnacles largest penis to body ratio of any creature.
So maybe we should change the phrase hung like a horse to hung like a barnacle.
>> Whoa.
Uh, I've come across a point of interest and I don't know if I've done one of these yet. Did I do one earlier?
>> No, >> I've forgotten the dust bunny run already.
>> No, we did not come across one of these.
>> Well, there's a bunch of points of interest around uh around the map. Uh, they are marked by these little question marks. They get bigger as you get closer. This one in particular is a carved tree. Uh, we have two options. I can contemplate the the carved tree or I can hone my skills. Uh so I either gain a level of progress or physical damage.
Uh should we should we contemp I heard someone say contemplate?
>> I heard it. So that's what we're going with.
>> All right. Yeah. I like contemplate tree.
>> Uh none of these are crab. We had so many crab options and now they're just gone.
I saw stomach but not gastric meal.
>> Oh, exoskeleton.
>> Exo, we'll level up our exoskeleton.
There we go.
>> Oo, that's very very impressive.
>> Yes, my shell has also changed shape.
It's It's a bit more pointy, >> more like a uh maybe like a painted top shell almost.
>> We got a new fella here. We got a sand shark, which is mole crab.
>> Very nice.
And we're about to go into the next boss. Cheek pouch. We're going to pick up more more food as we go, fellas.
I mean, the the chunky mass, you've become quite the >> quite the dominant force on this uh these planes.
>> I am the main predator around these parts.
Al. So, what sort of form of attacks can we uh go for?
>> The you're too chunky for it.
>> Uh, hatb charmed the beware. Uh, what forms of attack? Well, >> yeah, at the moment we're biting.
>> Yes. So, at the moment we uh I did take Jaws just because I personally I personally quite like it.
>> Your health your >> Oh, I didn't look at that. Oh, NO. OH, AN ECHO.
>> OH, NO.
>> This this this is this has done changed the game.
>> What What What do you How do you think what do you think is going to help you in this situation?
>> Um yeah, I think exoskeleton will do better than plated.
Uh, I think this might be Anna try and survive the boss rather than kill the boss cuz I forgot to look at my health.
>> Oh, and we are quite chunky.
>> And so, are you slow in the water as well? Do you become a sort of terrestrial crab? Is >> Yeah. Last.
>> Oh, dang.
>> So, last time we had wings, so I was able to But I'm reg I'm regening. I'm regening.
Oh no, >> this is fine. This is fine. This is fine.
>> This is fine.
Great dodge there.
Embrace the Sally Lightfoot in you. And >> no, >> see I see you're going for purely evasion. Oh. Oh, we attack though.
Nom nom. Oh my god. Now it's dark as well. Oh, he can't catch a break.
Yeah. Yeah.
Swish.
Oh my god. You're You're going to absolutely Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh.
Get. No. Yes.
Yes. Oh, that was that was a scary one.
That was a scary one.
>> Congratulations.
>> Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I will celebrate. Uh I am going to go with cheek pouch here and we're going to get the specialization. Uh I don't currently have any friends. Uh and I don't have any in the game either. But we are going to take pro provider here.
>> Emotional support crab.
>> Okay.
>> He's only paid to do it. Yeah. You know, you said he wasn't paid. Is he?
>> I thought.
>> Uh, but yeah, we're going to uh take this cuz it's going to increase my chance to charm fellas.
>> So, just me like eating means people are going to go, "Damn, >> that's damn."
>> Exactly.
>> I mean, also cuz crabs do charm.
>> I mean, yes, >> I could even do a little If you want to know how a crab charms, I can show you how a crab charms. I I think you should show us how crabs >> there's a crab. So So crabs can show off of me many various ways. Okay, we found the fiddler crab will show off as a beautiful dances as well. You will have stridulation. They'll make some noises.
But one of the very impressive ways that a crab will charm someone is through their urine. Okay, >> now it's very powerful and potent urine.
Okay. Now, for this, I'm going to need you to imagine that I am a beautiful female crab. Okay. So, as things go, hello.
And I seem to have already caught the uh the eye of the emotional support crab here as well. But no, no, no, no. I've not I have not signified to him that I am ready. Okay. It's going to take a lot more than that. Maybe maybe show us a little show us a little bit of stridulation. some noise to show off to me.
That's uh for a crab like me on the prowl, it's uh it's doing the job. Okay, emotional support crab. Now, I think he successfully he's he's wooed me into a point. I think I'm ready to say, "Hey, we should maybe take this further."
Okay. Now, firstly, I shall secrete my urine. Now, you'll see that I'm doing this from my face, okay? Because that is where crabs weave from. And it's basically at the base of their antennas, which we've got from. So, from the base of my antenna, I'm secretreting this urine, okay? But in it is a powerful pheromone. Okay? It is so potent. It is such a incredible aphrodesiac that now the emotional sport crab cannot resist.
Okay. So, I've secreted it out and and he and he is now.
Come, come. Oh, I'm I'm set. I'm I'm ready. Oh, you're going to have to get closer than that. Oh. Oh, you're going Oh, you're Oh. Oh, emotional support crab. Oh, this is very impressive.
Okay, hold on, hold on, hold on. Oh, we're not we're not ready yet. Okay, because I have yet to mol. Okay. But this is this is this is this is going to be a very delicate process because first I need you I just need to know I'm safe.
I just need to know I'm safe with you.
Am I safe with you?
Okay. Okay. Embrace. Hold. Hold me. Shh.
Hold me. Hold me. Shh. Hold me. Okay.
Okay. Okay. I feel I feel safe now. Call a beam of things. I am now ready to mol.
Okay. Now, I'm going to completely shed my exoskeleton because it makes all sorts of orififices um a lot more accessible. Um of which, as a female crab, I have two vaginas, by the way. Okay. Okay. Now, I'm ready.
Okay. So, you've got me. You've got me things. Okay. I'm going to mol. I'm going to mol. Oh, I'm molting for you.
That's right. Motion spoke crab. I'm going to I I'm going to mol for you. I know what Okay, hold me. Hold me. I'm I'm vulner I'm so vulnerable. I I'm I'm in such a vulnerable state right now because I have my my hard once hard exoskeleton has now left and my soft supple um you know not enough calcium carbonate uh in this kiten to to to be hardened. Okay.
Now that both my vaginas are accessible from my abdominal flap, I am ready to receive.
Not your penis, but come on. Come on.
No, don't be shy. Come on.
This is educational. Um, you're not holding me. Hold. Hold me. Um, now I'm not I'm ready to receive your gonapod.
Okay. because insemination doesn't happen in the way you'd think it's not. You're right there. You're right there. It's okay. Um um now your gonapod will take the sperm from one of your penises. Okay? Because this is your abdominal flap here and there is a penis located say around there and one on the other side. And the gonopod will then place take that and place it into one of my vaginas. Now, >> don't rush. Don't Don't be going things cuz this can take up to two weeks.
We're I'm in it for the long haul, baby.
You know, I don't want someone to just, you know, No, I'm not going to say that phrase. I was going to say something really stupid. I want you to take your time. Okay. Are you for two weeks, we're going to embrace and you're going to keep placing your sperm inside my gonapore. Just basically saying things.
So for 2 weeks you will replace this because also in this moment then I would have hopefully hardened my exoskeleton and in this moment we shall leave each other. Okay. Okay. Good.
Okay. Now I'm back in the world. Okay.
And in this moment full of emotional support crabs uh seaman uh we are a science education uh places. I can say all these words, but basically now it's in there and I will then start producing thousands upon thousands of eggs. So in my abdominal flap, this is where I would then start swelling and the things and thousands of thousands of eggs will be in my abdominal flap and I will then release them into the world and they just go off and do their merry thing. He does nothing to look after it. But then again, neither do I. So they're off into their world. Maybe for the except for the case in um like the bromeilad crab actually this is a perfect example um will actually somewhat tend to their eggs um in a very sort of would hydrate the environment inside of a bromeilad plant um and then the circle of life continues once again you how we doing good thank you emotional support crab everyone for >> sorry what was you doing was meant to be um talking about video games.
>> We did.
>> So, can you do that in the game?
>> Uh, no.
>> Wow, you missed a trick there.
>> Yeah, we really did.
>> It's all okay. Next then for the next everything is crab too.
>> Yeah, I'll I'll I'll I'll talk to I'll talk to the devs.
>> That's fine. Yeah. Yeah. If they need to if they need another demonstration, >> I'm sure emotional crab.
>> We can pull up the the VOD that we can from the stream. We did have someone in chat say Last thing you would expect from a launch stream is two men acting out crab sex in a crab museum with a trombone.
>> You've not been You've not been to many events at the crab museum.
>> This is light. This is PG.
>> I I I was part I was part of arranging this and even I did not expect that.
>> Yeah, you knew you was signed up for.
>> Anyway, back to the video game. Oh yeah, I'm a director of a museum. Yeah.
>> Uh here I think the the obvious answer is armed to unlock pincers.
>> Yes, we're on the way. We're almost at Krabby.
>> We got to we got to go bull crab.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> And we're going to >> How many customization points have we got now?
>> Three.
>> Three >> out of 10.
>> It's better than none though.
>> It is better than none. Yeah. Uh, for every point of customization, uh, there is a 10% increase of damage from enemies. So, the more crab you get, the more dangerous the world is.
>> Oh, >> but why is it so hard being a crab?
>> For for crab reasons.
>> For Yeah.
>> Yeah. Uh, but it also uh gives you an 8% increase of food rarity. So, the food gets better. crab. There we go. That's >> There's the balance.
>> Yeah. Actually, it's kind of why you can find crabs around the world because they can basically eat almost anything.
>> Nom nom nom nom nom. Except plastic.
Stop dumping in the ocean, guys. It's like you have one job.
>> Hat burp.
>> No, I refuse.
>> Eat the bird.
Um, who this as well?
>> So, this is a ttoid. We've seen a few of them, but this is its tid.
tidy plus wood wood tid again.
>> Uh I don't know what this mushroom does, so we're going to eat it.
>> The sound effects are so good.
>> I was going to say actually that the music is an absolute ball. Genuinely, the music of this game, and Cat will attest to this, is we've we've taken this game to like an event and then we've gathered a crowd of people just going grab grab grab grab grab grab grab grab grab to the to like the theme. No one was playing the game.
>> So, does it go like again? Crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab.
>> And now you know all of the words.
>> Wow.
>> God, that's weird. I wouldn't do anything weird like a crab.
>> Okay, we do.
>> Is this going to secure us another personization point?
>> It would. Uh, but we could also level up legs to get to get closer to more legs.
>> Oh.
Oh.
>> So, it's it's a >> yell for scuttle.
>> The duality of man. Do we become more crab or more >> crab?
>> Bipedal or more crab?
>> They're both more crab.
>> And it's more crabby. That gives us a carization point though.
>> This will eventually get get us a carization point. Okay. Are we playing the long game?
>> What's better? A carization point now or a cast carization point later and more legs.
>> More legs.
>> I do.
>> I am a sucker for instant gratification, but it seems like people are more restrained than >> the room wants more legs.
>> But I want everything now. I want what I want now. Surely there's no repercussions of that. I think we'll go with a crowd. But >> more legs.
>> And we do. We got four legs now. We are looking pretty impressive.
>> I charmed a dude.
Stinging and yummy mushroom. Let's >> learn from our incredible demonstration earlier.
>> It was obviously my my impressive extra legs that just did the trick.
Okay. Okay. Okay. Can I have yells for scuttle?
>> Yells for scuttle. Woo.
>> Yells for pinser.
>> And that's exactly the outcome I thought we were going to get. Uh, a coconut crab's pinch can generate a force of up to 335 kg, which is 90 times its own body weight.
>> That's pretty impressive.
>> Pinch.
>> If someone could bring the coconut we have at the back here, we can play. We can do a game of can you feel stronger than a coconut crab?
>> Because it's pretty powerful. It's so powerful. They can crush a human.
>> Yeah.
>> Do you know?
>> I was about to mention Amelia Hehart, too.
Take it away. Go on. I don't want to take the fact away from you. We can tell us about Emilia and then you can play.
Are you stronger than coconut?
>> I just think that she's a very fantastic, wonderful woman who deserved better.
>> Surely nothing. That must be a very lovely story about >> I I wish it had a happy ending and not that she was possibly eaten by coconut crabs. not she paved the way for female aviation to be rumored to be eaten by coconut crabs not alive. She would have died on the crash.
Um and basically coconut crabs opportunistic scavengers would have just crushed >> and just snipped little bits and and numbed.
>> But do you feel stronger than the coconut crab?
>> No.
>> I try. I feel like I'm pretty strong sometimes. But even Okay. Wait.
Okay, it's nice. Maybe we've got a very strong person in the front of the road.
Maybe would do you like to cuz also so being a co a coconut crab could crush this open with ease with their single claw. Oh, you're going to have harder than that.
>> You even cheated and tried to use both hands there.
>> It's not even things.
>> I heard like a crunch as well.
>> There you go. You tried. I thought he was going to hit me with it then.
>> I'll do it.
>> What's in it? a juicy delicious coconut that obviously you would try to get into something.
>> That definitely sounds juicy.
>> Yeah.
>> No. No. Unfortunately, you are not stronger than coconut crab because obviously they have some of the most powerful core crushing abilities um of any force of 335 kg or 740 >> lbs. What does that mean?
>> Pounds.
>> Pounds.
>> Yeah. If we if we're going um American >> American >> forgot the word for metric imperial.
>> Going with pizza though also unlocks pistol pizza.
So that was that was definitely the choice. And now we got little pizza hands and we got these little pizza.
>> And we have reached castonization level four. We're halfway to being crab.
>> Yeah. You would, wouldn't you, mister?
I'd talk about carization. Although, you specifically made definitions that things weren't crabs. You've changed your tune.
>> Oh, look at all my friends.
>> I mean, how who could >> who could resist?
>> Who could resist?
>> He's a He's a beautiful boy.
>> Uh, you do have to be careful when you have friends. You don't want to attack your friends. Uh, and what happens when you do is My health's not looking good.
Uh, what happens when you attack your friends is you you get minus you get deductions from your uh abilities. So, >> try your hardest not to kill your friends.
>> Don't hurt your friends.
>> Uh, we got so many mutagen points. I'm going to reroll until I was going to say I'm going to roll until we get a crab thing.
>> Oh, legs though. It really it's it it it doesn't want us to pick scuttle because no matter what we're going with legs to get arropod >> Oh my days we're hitting arthropod. We are unlocking arropod.
>> Yeah. So we're going to get little crab legs and then this unlocks even more legs.
>> Wow.
>> We're become the >> How many legs have we got now? Does it tell us level yet?
>> We have four.
>> Okay.
>> And plus our two claws.
legs. A claws legs.
>> Appendages. Um, so >> I still have four.
>> Technically, you have four legs.
>> Four legs and two pendes.
>> Two claws. So that's six appendages.
Wow, it's close. We're almost to Anamuran level of uh of crab. Look at all this wood. Look all my friends.
We have so many points. I'm going to reroll. Let's see if we can actually finally take scuttle >> chunky pistol pizza.
>> I feel like >> pistol. And I I have to say so there are a few there are a few evolutions that are not just your left click right click attack. They are a special ability which is uh on the Q button. Um I cannot currently tell you what they are on controller because I do not have those controls memorized. If you would like to know what they are, they are in our FAQs on the Steam page. Uh, but Pistol Pinser is one of my favorite abilities. Um, just because it's a big boy one. Uh, let's see if we can find >> We are a chunky beast.
>> Uh, I want to like come here, dude.
>> It just absolutely yeets them across the screen.
Wow.
>> One, another one. Oh, no. Your friends.
>> These are all my friends except this dude.
>> Uh, it needs to be the final hit just to And then because it's because it's a special ability, it has it takes a little bit longer >> to to cool down.
>> Oh no. One more hit. One more hit. It's going to go flying.
I've accidentally charmed uh blobfish++ which is not the most helpful to me.
>> I mean you not be charmed piss piss at level two or whining >> whining.
The people have spoken. They want whining.
>> Winning.
>> What about the evolution?
>> Uh but yeah on damage uh it will attempt to charm the fellas.
>> Nice. Maybe um emotional sport crab. How would a crab whine?
>> We're finally going to take scuttle.
We're reaching level seven castization >> out of nowhere. Yeah, we've just suddenly like almost become a true crab.
>> We are so crabs, my dude.
I got so many friends as well. I mean, Darwin is like really changed from the little blob we had at the beginning.
>> He was just a little blue guy.
>> Wait, do your your friends just follow you around? But they protect you.
>> Well, yeah. So, the um they all kind of play different roles. Uh the ttoids, they're very tanky, so they go after um other fellas for you. Um the the pill ferrets, which are the little slinky dudes over here. I kind of want to char this guy. This little ferret dude. Uh, they will go and like pick up food and bring it to you.
>> A >> So they're little like foragers.
>> Yeah.
>> I kind of want Krabby Bar to be my friend.
>> Can you make Krabby Bar Oh, >> you can.
>> Krab's got some evil eyes.
>> Come on, Krabby Bar.
I'm charming everyone else except Krabby Bar.
>> Any any rerolls? Get more Krabby. Yeah, we can as crab as possible.
Uh, none of these ones. Pins are level two. It doesn't get us another castization point, but it will just upgrade.
>> Pins are sick.
>> We can reroll.
>> Should we do it? He who dares. E. He who dares.
>> No. One more reroll and we'll see.
>> No. Okay. Back to back to pinces.
>> Pinces. Pinces level two. I'm going to use my nine points to upgrade it, though.
>> Uh, going for it.
>> Nothing can stop crabs.
>> Okay, our crab tour fight is coming up.
Uh, I can't reroll. Okay, >> cortex I guess could work.
>> I have a >> Well, ganglens, >> you can't really see it behind my my eyes, but I do have a bit of a brain sticking out now.
>> You become a brainy dude.
>> Crab has become so crab.
>> That's very crabby.
How?
>> Mhm.
>> Uh, let's go with Jaws level two. And I'm going to take neck bite. It deals less damage, but it drops more food, which means evolving quicker.
>> Yeah.
>> Do you reckon you can have him?
>> Yeah. I I think I >> Oh, yeah. So, wow. The confidence of this crab right now.
>> Maybe not when I'm tucked in the corner like that.
There you go, Chris. I'm getting you some achievements.
>> He's just not playing this game. He's not been putting the effort in.
>> All right, then.
>> And the second one. Ooh.
>> Hump.
>> Hump.
Like a camel has >> like a like a camel has.
>> A camel. Are there any crabs with humps?
>> Like bumpy lumpy bumply bits >> but but no like >> I wouldn't say like more rostral horns.
They're kind of like bumps of the the kind of front of their the sort of faces.
>> What are they called?
>> Rostral horns.
>> It's like a a dolphin's rostrm.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Yeah. That's what they're >> That's what a dolphin's nose is called.
A rostroom.
>> Very nice.
I have animal facts.
>> What's the fact that for hump though?
>> Uh the fact uh contrary to popular belief, the camel's hump stores fat, not water. Healthy camels with significant fat storage can survive without food or water for a couple of weeks.
>> Oo.
>> Ooh, indeed. Uh it is going to increase like if we're at full health and then we eat, it's going to increase our health more. So I think that's, you know, would be a healthy crab. And we got our branching evolution. Now, I don't think there's any more crab ones.
Uh, so we got wings alpha or ruminant, I believe it's pronounced. Uh, >> it's a little is a cow.
>> Cute. That's nice.
>> Yeah.
>> Everything is cow.
>> The >> Yeah, >> everything is cow.
>> Everything is cow.
>> Or we could be a crab with wings. There is, as we know, everything is either a cow or not a cow in the universe.
>> Yeah, exactly. Everything is either a cow or not a cow in the universe.
Exactly.
>> Or the observable known universe.
>> Yes.
>> Well, I'm sure there's cows and not cows out there.
>> I'm sure there's a cow out there somewhere.
>> There's probably a whole planet just cows.
>> Yep.
>> Which means there's also probably a whole planet just crabs.
>> A boy can dream, can't they? Oh, don't take me there.
>> I I I reckon we go with alpha cuz that's going to increase my social, which helps with the courting.
>> Uh, and it's going to make me even bigger.
>> Woo.
>> Woo. And it's going to increase our max HP.
>> Very nice. Although the scientist that kind of studied about alpha wolves has spent the rest of his uh scientific career trying to disprove uh basically saying that it what he discovered was wrong.
Um, it's a shame cuz all those annoying men decided that they talk about being alphas >> food. I'm nom nom nom nom. Uh, pins pins it is.
>> We got a very pinser crowd at the moment here.
>> Uh, I think alpha level two as well.
>> Desert. You think you find could be fine in the desert?
Hump.
>> Let's go with that.
>> Hump.
>> It is very warm. But we have we have No, I'm not killing the BB. We have surpassed the third boss, which I didn't do last time, which means that very scary question mark has turned into a very scary face.
>> Um, >> which means secret fourth boss is here.
Oh, it's been identified.
>> And to hold into tie into that hole. You too big for that now.
>> Just won't be in there for very long.
But ttoid has has evolved even further.
>> Ooh. What sort of features have they got?
>> Spiky shell.
>> Oh, that's nice.
>> This is like level two tid. And this is level three tid.
>> I'm looking level three.
It's my son.
Kill it. Kill it. Kill it. Kill it. I'm sorry. The crowd has spoken. I think I think that's everyone saying on the chat as well saying kill it as well. If you want us to kill that crab, let us know.
>> I will never kill Hatburg on purpose.
>> Hatber.
>> Did you do it accidentally then?
>> Probably once or twice.
>> And what's there's a little star above that creatures that >> this the star the fellas with the stars.
So the they're alphas as well, so they're bigger uh tankier, so they take a little bit more more to to take down.
Um >> and then they drop a lot more food as well. So it's like >> risk for reward. I will this one I will.
This one I will >> I'm sorry. Can I just look at how impressive it looks of just like of of emotional support crab just casually just sitting and watching with the trombone and it just looked and I was like he looks so into it right now. I'm just like you can't see this any sport is killing it.
This is also we got level three spitfish.
>> Oh, >> and they have they've evolved >> tool use. I guess >> they've they've evolved to to use tools.
>> Wow, he's got a knife.
>> Why has he got a knife?
>> Uh, and we've also got the the level two Krabby who are even more crab.
>> It's got a wind up. Oh, no. It's a death thing. So that feels like a wind up Krabby Bug.
>> The death and >> there's so many of them. But look >> No, but you friend you friended one.
There's another Yeah, there's one that's fighting for your side.
>> There's so much going on. Is there >> What did you go for?
>> Uh spit. Okay.
>> So, spit. Spit or chunky? So, spit.
>> Chunky.
>> Oh. Oh, okay. Okay.
>> Sorry. I I will try not to sway the room.
>> So, spit is one of the ranged attacks.
So, there's spit. There's stone away.
You throw sp stones. Uh, but with spit, I mean, it's kind of self-explanatory.
You You spit like a Is it alpaca? Llama.
Alpacas.
>> Yeah, I think they do.
>> Alpacas, llamas.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, well, let's go with chunky.
>> Yeah.
Chunky. I mean, you are so chunky now.
>> I am.
>> You got some serious chunky vibes.
>> Absolute chungus right there.
Uh, saliva. Let's just I'm going try and speed through to the boss.
>> Sorry. What's the What's the song go like again?
>> Crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab crab.
>> Yeah, it's there's so many fellas, but look at all this food.
Uh, pistol pins at level two and I'm going to go with reach.
>> I mean, you could have got horns cuz of rostal horns.
>> Uh, we don't want to go in the water.
Oh, this is a shiny Krabby Bar.
>> Oh, it's your friend.
>> So, there are shinies to find >> and they're your friend >> in the world and they just kind of glitter at you.
>> Uh, let's go with poisonous saliva. That is because I'm dribbling everywhere and now that's going to cause extra damage.
>> Is that going to going to affect your your crappy bar of friends?
>> No, they should be fine. There's another one. Hello.
>> Oh, I'm making your friends.
>> Hello.
>> But also, there's this circle around.
What? This is >> So, this is my like charming range. So, to be able to charm fellas, they have to be within this circle.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> Let's go with Jaws. Just get that bite up. We are about to go into the last boss fight.
>> Wow. Do you think we're crabby enough to >> Do you feel confident? How are you feeling? Okay.
>> I'm scared.
>> Yeah. We've got an interview here with Eli about to enter the the final bus.
How do you feel? You think you're ready to take it on?
>> I'm very nervous for the big big fella that's on his way. But honestly, we got the crowd. I think you got the crowd on many friends that I think we're fine. if you know friends can help you get through everything.
>> Look at this living ecosystem of >> What can you tell us about the final boss as well?
>> Are we going to find out?
>> We will find out. He's here. He's coming. He's on his way. Uh let's take feeding speed.
>> He's on his way. He's on his way.
>> Is that big hole you can go in?
>> Uh no. So that was a pool that I've already Crap.
>> Uh, I'm going to go with strength in numbers, which is increases my cataclysm resistance.
>> Wow.
>> Uh, which is very important when we get to this final boss fight. Um, as we can we have a a little I'm stuck.
>> Oh my god. Like tentacles coming out the ground.
>> Yes. Uh, so >> Oh, cuz it's a craben like a kraken. Crab. Exactly. Exactly.
But meteorites are about to start raining down on us.
>> Oh no.
>> In a world ending event. So I think we need our Cataclysm resistance high. But I think we can. We got so many friends.
I'm tanky. I'm >> You can do anything.
>> Oh god. I thought you died there.
Really?
>> Uh strength and numbers.
Darwin's musicians have a crappy >> so much food. No.
>> No.
>> Press shows you how long we've been playing this game.
>> Crab.
>> You are absolutely bodying crab.
>> It's It's the crab.
>> It's the power of the crab.
>> Oh, and we get courting right at the end. Courting is >> Don't get any ideas support crab.
>> Courting is another uh special uh special ability. So, it is it is bound to the Q key. Uh, but we're going to go with strength and numbers cuz I'm keeping my pistol pinser. Uh, I don't think I'm going to even finish Crab. My friends did it for me.
>> Oh, it's the power of friendship, did it?
>> Woo! Woo!
>> So, yeah, that was that was a >> You've completed Everything is crap.
>> Yeah. Congratulations and jubilations and crustations.
>> So, there are some really fun things on this screen. Uh, so you can see your little guy at the end. There is this camera button which saves a lovely little gif of your guy or GIF if you pronounce it weirdly. Um, as well as a few stills and your stats so you know exactly what the build was and you can keep your Darwin forever. Uh, and then there also is down here a little endless button. So eventually if you get to pressure 10, you unlock endless, which means you get to you go through this, you go through the four bosses, you defeat Crabkin. If you really like your build, you really like your Darwin, you can just keep going and you just go through it all over again. And that's where the the the truer effects of evolution come in because you keep you keep going.
>> Wow. Well, round of applause, everyone.
And then you could just go again and again.
>> And again, it goes up to a pressure 20.
So, there's a bunch of difficulties to get through. There's a bunch of challenges to get through. So, if you want to survive solely in the desert without being able to use scales and fur, you can. Or a snowy land or Wild Wild World where there's just bosses everywhere. So, there's a lot to do.
It's available on Steam and Epic right now.
>> Well, thank you once again for demonstrating. Um, and you could also play this, too, cuz we still got another room. You can still some play some have a few goes. You know, it's actually Ela made it look so good. Um, uh, so easy, but it's actually quite hard.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I've had a few too many crabies, let me tell you. by our good friends at Krabbies. Yes. Um but thank you once again. Um it's been a blast.
>> Thanks for having us.
>> Um anything and emotional support crab.
>> Emotional support crab.
>> The real hero.
Um well, play us out. Measure support crab. Take it away.
We're a museum, independent science museum. Um, thank you so much once again everyone. Um, we do uh ask um some rough housing in the back here. What are you up to? Exciting night, I know. But maybe we can channel this excitement into helping pack up some of these chairs. That would be very helpful indeed. Um well, take it.
>> All right. Just just some final words of of actually quite honest and and truthful thanks that we are a small museum. Um, and it's truly an honor to be joined in our mission by people who share the same mission as we do. Uh, that crabs are cool as heck and that they deserve the respect that they are damn well due.
>> Uh, and so thank you all for coming. Um, you're all legends and thank you for Chase. Thank you to Eli. Thank you to the whole Secret Mode team. Thank you to Odd Dreams Design Digital for making the game in the goddamn first place. Um, and a round of applause for yourselves for turning up and being crabs.
>> Hold tight. Hold tight.
>> And and >> thanks everyone.
>> Thank you for having us as well.
>> You're welcome. Anytime.
