[00:00:00]I'm Asian, but a lot of people seem to not consider me Asian. People forget that South Asians are part of the A in AAPI. We're 2 billion people and one of the fastest growing ethnic groups in America. Every May, the campaigns and celebrations come out and we're either entirely missing or there's one token South Asian expected to represent the masses of us. Looking and being South Asian is not just one thing. Every skin tone and hair type exists in this community, yet the media only portrays one type of person. Growing up, I rarely saw people like myself represented in the media. Now, there's so many successful, talented brown women in the media killing it. Where are they included in this AAPI celebrations? My challenge for brands next year, cast a range of people in the AAPI community and actually name the communities that you're specifically including. Keep showing up outside of AAPI month. We want to be celebrated for more than just Diwali.
