Regular mirror self-examination can reveal early warning signs of serious health conditions: pale eye lining suggests low blood count, yellowing of the whites indicates jaundice (often liver-related), yellow eyelid patches (xanthelasma) signal high cholesterol, cracked mouth corners indicate nutritional deficiencies like low iron or B12, smooth tongue texture suggests iron or B12 deficiency, white coating indicates oral thrush (potentially diabetes or immune issues), unintentional weight loss or facial puffiness signals organ dysfunction, and rough scaly patches on sun-exposed areas may be precancerous actinic keratosis requiring medical evaluation if persistent.

Mirror Signs a Doctor Sees But You Don’t.... Yet...Añadido:
You look at your face in the mirror every single day, so you think you know it pretty well, right? But in reality, there are warning signs hiding in plain sight that most people completely miss.
As a doctor, these are signs I've been trained to spot in seconds. And one of them could be on your face right now.
Let's start with your eyes.
This right here most people have never looked at.
That lining should be salmon pink. If it's pale, washed out, almost white, that's your body telling you your blood count might be low. And that's a red flag until proven otherwise, because it could be slow blood loss from somewhere like your gut.
Right, while we're here, look at the whites of your eyes.
Even a hint of yellow, that could be a type of jaundice. Now, most people think jaundice shows up in the skin first. It doesn't. Not usually, anyway. It usually starts in the white of your eyes.
And one of the reasons it happens is if your liver isn't working properly, so it needs an urgent blood test.
One last thing before we move from your eyes.
These little yellowy patches around the eyelids, they're called xanthelasma.
They're actually deposits of excess cholesterol. So, if you have them, get your cholesterol checked.
Now, move to your mouth and look at the corners. Are they cracked, sore, especially when you open your mouth? The kind of thing that won't quite heal no matter how much lip balm you use?
That's called angular stomatitis. And yes, sometimes it's just dryness.
Sometimes it's a mild fungal infection, but sometimes it can be something else entirely. Low iron, low B12, the raw materials your body needs to keep your blood healthy, your nerves firing, your energy levels functional.
While you're here, have a look at your lips. Are they persistently dry? Not seasonally, always.
This can be as simple as not drinking enough, but it can also be a sign that your body isn't holding on to fluid the way that it should be.
Now, it's not very often we look at our tongue in the mirror, but you should.
Your tongue should have texture, a slight roughness to it. If it looks nice and smooth, almost polished, like someone sanded it flat, that could be iron deficiency or low B12 showing itself.
Your tongue is one of the fastest renewing surfaces in your body. When the building blocks aren't there, it often shows up here first. This white coating is what oral thrush looks like.
Inhalers, antibiotics, these are common causes. But if it keeps coming back without a clear reason, I'd want to know why. Because recurring oral thrush can be the first sign of undiagnosed diabetes or an immune issue. Most people don't know that.
Now, step back. Look at your face as a whole. Has it changed? Not today, but over months.
Do you look thinner than you did this time last year? More drawn, more gaunt?
Unintentional weight loss, the kind you didn't work for, is something we always take seriously, always.
Because we have to find out what's driving it.
And the opposite can happen, too. A face that's rounding out, puffier than it was, especially around the eyes first thing in the morning, it could be just weight gain, but it could also be fluid that indicates your kidney, liver, or thyroid are giving you trouble.
Not necessarily need to panic, but if you think it's you, see your doctor.
Now, although this one applies to everyone, I want you to listen up extra if you're a man.
If your hair is thinned, look at your scalp, your forehead, the tops of your ears, anywhere that's had years of sun with nothing on it.
Rough, scaly patches that feel like sandpaper and just won't go away, those could be something called actinic keratosis.
These are precancerous changes, decades of sun damage making themselves known.
Some come to nothing, but some, left alone, can develop into squamous cell carcinoma, skin cancer.
The rule is simple.
If it's been there for 6 weeks and won't budge, get it seen.
That's it, no drama. Just get it seen.
None of this is hidden, it's all right there in the mirror you look at every single morning. But let me ask you a question, because you see this in the mirror, too.
Do you know the back of your hand like the back of your hand?
Because just like your face, your nails could be screaming warning signs at you, and maybe you just don't know what to look out for.
Or maybe you've even shrugged off some signs without realizing it.
To find out more, have a look at this video right here. Thanks very much for watching. Hopefully, I'll see you over there. Bye-bye.
