When a bird develops a severe eye infection that doesn't respond to antibiotics and progresses to an ulcer causing significant pain, the treatment options are limited to either surgical removal of the eye or humane euthanasia, as the risks of anesthesia for birds are substantial and the condition may not be treatable with medication alone.

Mr. Whip Update | Eye Removal Surgery本站添加:
I want to post an update on my duck, Mr. Whiff. He is apparently most well known on the internet for having to have his wings clipped because he has some medical problems. Um he's actually blind in one eye due to some head trauma.
And honestly, the wing clipping has changed a lot for him and made his life so much better because he's not constantly hurting himself.
However, Mr. Whiff is going to have to have surgery to remove his eye now, unfortunately. Um he was doing really, really well for a while. It was looking good. Um and then unfortunately, it looks like he scratched his eye um probably with his own toenails. Um and the eye did get infected. He's been on antibiotics for a while and it's just not getting better. It's only getting worse. And at this point, it looks like it has developed into an eye ulcer.
And it's very obvious to me that he is in a lot of pain.
>> [sighs] >> Which sucks because I hate to see my animals in pain.
So, essentially, my two options are he can either have surgery to remove his eye or I can humanely euthanize him.
And I know that putting any bird, especially ducks, under anesthesia is risky.
I want to be completely transparent with you. Putting a duck under anesthesia scares me a lot.
Um I've only ever done it once before for Munchkin and um she didn't make it out of it.
I know that putting a bird, especially a duck, under anesthesia comes with the risk that they might not make it.
However, my only other option would be to have him humanely euthanized because making him suffer for the rest of his life is just not an option for me. I can tell that he is in a lot of pain just based on his recent behaviors. And honestly, just looking at his eye, I mean good timing showing them.
Like that looks so painful. I can't even imagine like what he's dealing with.
And I just wanted to give you guys that update on him. I'm obviously like really scared.
Cuz like I just love him so much.
And even like even if I like take myself out of the picture, like Sugar just loves him so much and I don't know if it like it would just be really hard to lose Mr. Wip and our flock. If you could just keep him in your thoughts and prayers, I would really appreciate it. Um I as you can see, he's biting me which um he's normally not this aggressive, but he is um becoming increasingly aggressive because he's in pain and I don't blame him.
And I just really hope he does he does good and he recovers fast and he can be our little one-eyed pirate duck. Honestly, I'm probably going to be losing my mind from the time that I drop him off until I get the all clear that he's come, you know, woken up from the anesthesia because I I mean, to be honest, like my last experience with that was kind of traumatizing.
Um and and that's no one's fault, obviously.
Um it was just really shitty cuz I went into it like thinking yeah, like she's definitely going to come out of this and we're going to like have a diagnosis and be able to treat her and then she passed away. So, I'm obviously really scared, but I know that I'm doing the right thing for him.
And I know that there are a lot of people that will judge me because I've done this before um for putting him under anesthesia, for spending money on a on a on an animal that I consider my pet, um for taking a duck to the vet at all, but he is worth every penny to me.
And I just I really I just really hope he makes it through because he's like such a core member of our flock.
Uh I like don't even want to bring him to the vet to have this done, but it's like I'm also not going to let him suffer, you know? So.
That's the update.
