According to a Fraser Institute report discussed by Rebel News Canada, Alberta is a net contributor to Canadian Confederation, with other Canadians paying approximately $1,000 per year in taxes to support the province, challenging the federalist narrative that Alberta needs Canada.

Alberta taxpayers saving Canadians $1000 each
Added:Let's get into the story from the Fraser Institute and I did write an Alberta fact check on this this morning. Not so much that I think there's a problem with the Fraser Institute data, but I think there's a problem with the narrative that the federalists keep repeating when they say Alberta can't leave. Alberta needs us.
So we have this problem with a province of you know, 4 and 1/2 million people supporting country of 40 million people and so Fraser Institute ran the numbers.
If we left every other person in the country would pay another thousand bucks every single year in taxes and so I think that blows a hole in this federalist narrative that oh, what would you do? Well, you know, Alberta, what would you do if you left? You need us.
No brothers, you really need us and I think this I think deep down in the federalist hearts, they know this to be true, which is why they're so vicious in trying to keep us from leaving. I'll go to Chris first.
>> [snorts] >> Yeah, that's uh uh It is interesting that rather than talking about the issues or the federalists are more willing to say hey, you can't or you need us or there's no way or those types of things.
Like they never address these issues.
Even our premier Danielle Smith, she she put out some you know, type of news that said Alberta independence is going to cost this much. It's going to be 400 billion dollars. Well, I didn't believe that and nobody should. So I actually took the time to to do a ledger, you know, the cost on one side and the benefit on the other and the benefits are are they vastly outweigh the costs and you know, the Fraser Institute, their their math showing what it would cost other Canadians, it just it just verifies that that Alberta is a net contributor to Confederation, no matter which way you slice it. And the idea that uh we need to continue being a net contributor to the tune of like What is it, Sheila? Like $6,000 per Albertan or something like that? And that's everybody in your family. So, if you have a family of four, that's $24,000 for your family. Um I don't know how we need that. It doesn't seem like something we need. Uh but maybe they can debate me on that and explain it better.
>> They won't debate you. Uh I'll go to John. John, um I mean, it it's clear. I mean, we are a province of 4 and 1/2 million people bearing the load of 36 million people on our back, and the data shows it. They can argue nostalgia all they want, but those are the numbers. Those are That's the reality.
>> I I completely agree, and I think, you know, as you talked about the nostalgia and the emotional response doesn't have facts, and it doesn't have substance behind it on the other side of the argument. I think what's really interesting here, and having taken a look at the report that came out yesterday that you're speaking about, is, you know, in the last couple of weeks, we've heard from federalists, from the premier down to LaCac down to others on social media and out in public, talking about how it's going to cost $400 billion then it's going to cost $300 billion then it's going to cost $27 billion. And there nobody's actually completed the assessment. This is the first of of a few that's going to come out with some really good numbers and some really good analytics.
And common sense would tell you that in a jurisdiction, if it were any province with high income, high productivity, high development, high work ethic, they will be contributing more. And so, the conversations that I've seen on social media and the personal attacks that I've had on Axe and and the targeted messaging of Alberta can't survive without Canada is absolutely ludicrous.
I think that what the Fraser Institute's put out in this report here is pretty accurate. It's a good starting place uh, to talk about the fact that the rest of Canada, the Canadians are going to be out a thousand dollars per person per year because of what Alberta has been contributing. And that's really part of the discussion. It's not all about the numbers because what that really gets to is the fact of the unequal representation and the unequal policy development that happens as well. If we're at the table and we're a major contributor, we shouldn't be an economic colony stuck in the corner.
>> Uh, Lisa, I'm very sorry cuz I said we're carrying the load for 36 million other people, but there are 1 million Saskies who are doing more than their fair share. So, I'm very sorry. I should correct myself.
>> Okay. Well, thank you so much for including Saskatchewan in that. Um, we are a have province that pays equalization to the rest of the country, too. And the success of the West is what funds the rest of Canada's services. And yet, anytime we point this out, we're vilified for it instantaneously.
And all we're saying is that we're going to stop the welfare pipeline. We're going to stop the welfare pipeline that flows one way from east to west, or excuse me, from from Yeah, from Well, they take our money from the east to the east from the west. You guys know what I'm saying. Um, and and we see no gratitude from Ottawa. I think that what grinds people of the West so hard is how hard we have to hustle to see absolutely no acknowledgement on the other side.
And I I I for one am absolutely sick of it. The people in Eastern Canada, and especially the Laurentian Triangle, have an extraordinary quality of life, but only because of the hard work of the people of the West. And uh, it's to it's time to break up this bad marriage.
>> Um, >> Say, folks, I have an announcement to make. For years now, Rebel News has been taking supporters out to sea on our annual cruise. I am officially joining the news cruise, November 28th to December 5th, 2026.
Here's the big picture. This year, Rebel News is teaming up with our friends at Juno News. For the very first time, making the news cruise a true joint venture between two [music] of Canada's most watched independent newsrooms.
And the lineup sailing with me, you ask?
Well, the big boss man, Ezra Levant, he'll be there, of course. The man who is never once in his life been at a loss for words, which should make for excellent dinner conversation, or at least a very long conversation. Kean Bexte will be joining us, too. Younger than me, of course, better hair than me, annoyingly good at his job. You'll want to sit across from [music] Kean at dinner.
And John Carpay, the brilliant constitutional lawyer [music] from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, he will also be on board, which means if the captain tries to infringe on anyone's rights, we've got legal [music] counsel on the Lido Deck. We board Holland America Line's gorgeous MS Eurodam in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on [music] Saturday, November 28th, and we don't come back until Saturday, December 5th. Seven full nights in the Eastern [music] Caribbean.
And there will be private receptions and candid off-the-record conversations, [music] the kind you will never see on any screen.
And each evening at dinner, we will be rotating seats. So, over the course of the week, you will sit across the table from all of us, not watching from a distance, not through a [music] camera, across the table.
Cabins are limited, and I cannot stress this enough. Every single cruise >> [music] >> Rebel News has ever run has sold out.
This year with Juno News joining forces, demand is going to be even higher.
So, if you are on the fence, get off that fence and get on the boat. Visit thenewscruise.com to explore cabins and pricing. Please come join us.
You just can't lose when you do the cruise.
