Anal fistula is an abnormal connection between the anal canal and surrounding skin, typically caused by infection of perianal glands, and requires surgical intervention as non-surgical methods are ineffective; treatment options include fistulotomy, fistulectomy, LIFT technique, pilothec technique, laser ablation, fibrin plugs, and Seton placement (cutting or draining), with the primary surgical challenge being the risk of incontinence due to potential sphincter damage during treatment.

fistula in ano#which is the best treatment?Added:
So what are the treatment options for a fistline ano? So fistline ano if you want to understand it is abnormal connection between the inside of the anal canal and the skin around the an canal. There will be an internal opening there will be an external opening and there's a tract which is connecting the both the internal opening and the external opening. Usually this tract can be a straight tract or a curved tract.
uh the there sometimes there will be multiple blind tracks in between either close to the internal opening or the external opening. So the fistla can be either a simple or complex fistla a low fistla or a high fistla. A fistla is almost always treated with surgery.
Generally non-surgical methods don't work for a fistline. Almost always the fistla needs a intervention. So fistla happens because of the infection of the perennal glands. The glands which surround the elk canal usually it starts an infection in one of these glands and then the infection spreads and forms a fistla an abnormal communication between the inside of the elk canal and the skin around the elk canal. So there are different types of fistlas like simple ones like intrametric or low transmicric fistlas or subcutinous tract. Sometimes complex pistlas like high transmentric or super elevator fistlas or transmetric pistlas. So this is a general classification what to use to diagnose or to categorize the kind of fistla you are having. So fistla there are many types of treatments. So simple like a fistlottomy where we lay open the fistla tract. A fistlctomy where we completely remove the tract from inside to the outside and uh there are like waft that is void fistocopic surgery. Uh we have lift technique there's lagation of interpricus tract. We have piltech technique. We have something called as a laser ablation or a filak laser ablation of the fistla. So there there are so many options for a treatment of a fistla. There are fibbrin plugs. Saton.
Seton is nothing but a medicated thread or a thread used uh to put inside the fistla which can be either a cutting saton or a draining saton. So thison will help in either cutting the tract slowly or uh by inducing fibrosis in the tract and helping in closure of the fistla and eliminate the infection. A fistla treatment is always surgical and or interventional. Generally there is no medical treatment for a fistla. The risk of treating of fistla is one important thing you should understand is the in risk of incontinence. So because the enal muscles are there around the anal canal uh during the treatment of an fistla uh there's a chance that a patient may develop an incontinence due to damage to these sphincters. So we all doctors who treat vistlas we have always concerned about this and our attempts to treat a visla is to avoid injury to the sphincters at the same time. Thank you so much.
