I Found a Stranger Living in My RoomHinzugefügt:
Welcome to the I Told My Story channel.
I'm Kora. I spent my entire life in a room with tons of toys and gadgets, each of which was scrubbed and cleaned daily by mom. Heck, even the maids who delivered food to my room were sprayed with sanitizer from head to toe. We lived on an estate far away from the city. And the only people I ever interacted with were my parents or the servants. Obviously, I didn't go to school either. My parents homeschooled me and the weird part, I thought this life was normal. But then on my 10th birthday, my parents went out to buy me a present. And for the first time ever, I managed to sneak out into our estate's garden. Wo! It's so bright out here.
Suddenly, I spotted a beautiful butterfly and started chasing it across the garden when I heard some noises coming from across the fence. Feeling curious, I peeked out and saw two kids fighting with each other, rolling in the mud. I was fascinated. Hey guys, can I join you? Who are you? I'm Ka. I live in this house. Really? Then why haven't we met before? That's cuz I stay in my room and I never come out. Your mom lets you come out like this? Of course. Our mom gets angrier when we're inside the house.
I somehow managed to crawl under the fence and join them. We pushed each other, rolled in the mud together, and were having tons of fun. When I heard mom's earpiercing scream, "Ka, have you gone completely crazy? Come back right now." But mom, I'm having fun. As expected, Mom was having none of it. She took me straight to the bathroom, dumped me in debtall, and scrubbed every inch of my body.
Ouch, that hurts. Then don't ever dare to sneak out again. Those germs in the dirt, they can kill you. But they didn't kill those kids.
See, you've caught a cold already. Oh, my sweet Lord. I hope this isn't anything serious. Dad called a doctor immediately who ran some tests on me. I did catch a fever since obviously my body had never been exposed to dust before. I was in bed for a week and my parents' paranoia shot through the roof.
And guess what they did? They got a solid 20 ft high wall constructed all around our estate.
One day I was feeling ultra bored, so I decided to take out my guitar and play something. But the moment I opened my Almeida, I got the shock of my life.
Who are you? Shh, please don't shout.
I'm totally harmless. See, I don't have sharp teeth or claws. But But what are you doing here? That's a long story. My dad's a gardener on your estate. He loves me. But my stepmom, she's a total witch. Worse than Cinderella's, so I ran away from home. What? But you can't stay here. Why not? You have a big house. I promise I'll stay hidden. I just stared at that girl. She looked a bit wild, but her eyes had a strange softness that attracted me. Please, I'll do whatever you ask me to. We can play together, dance together. together. Yes. You know, like siblings or maybe friends. Whoa.
Now that sounded amazing. Well, okay.
But what if you get caught? I won't.
Trust me. She smiled and I somehow believed her. So, friends, that's how Wendy entered my lonely life. She would crack silly jokes, talk non-stop about everything under the sun. Gosh, we had so much fun. Wendy stayed in my room for around 2 weeks. Every time someone would come in, she'd quickly hide in my closet. One night, I played the guitar as we watched the full moon and stars from my room's window. Suddenly, she started humming. Her voice was so soothing la that tears involuntarily fell from my eyes. Hey, is my voice that bad? No, it's just actually I've spent all my life cooped up in this place. Sometimes sometimes I wish I could go outside and see what the world out there is like.
Then what's the problem? My parents, they'll never allow it. Wendy didn't say anything, but the look on her face told me she was definitely making some plans.
Sure enough, a few days later, when mom and dad left to get groceries, Wendy barged into my room. Come on, Ka. Wear your jacket and a pair of sneakers. It's now or never. What do you mean? You wanted to see the world outside, right?
Well, this is the chance. That day, Wendy somehow convinced me to go hiking with her. We went to a stunning lake in the middle of the woods behind our estate. She swam like a fish while I admired the surroundings. Then we played hideand seek and had such a great time.
But when we got back home, there was a team of police officers waiting outside our mansion along with mom and dad who looked very worried. I immediately turned around to tell Wendy to hide, but she had already vanished. Thank goodness. Or I'm sure mom and dad would have sent her packing. Kora, where have you been? Mom rushed toward me and hugged me as if I'd been missing since years. I I just went to see the lake.
What? Your dad and I were worried sick.
Honey, I thought you'd been kidnapped. I called the police. Oh my god. Dad, why are you both so dramatic? I just went on a little hike. Is that a crime? Kora, I can't believe how irresponsible you've become. You know what? Even if I'd have gotten kidnapped today, it would still be better than staying in this stupid house with you two. I marched into my room, tears stinging my eyes while my parents just stood there completely shocked. As soon as I reached my room, I found Wendy already there, sprawled on my bed. Hey, are you crying? No, I'm not. Of course you are. Did your parents scold you? Or wait, did they find out about me? No, silly. It's a good thing you ran away on time or God knows what they would have done. By the way, this was officially the best day of my life.
Thank you so much. I suddenly felt overwhelmed and hugged Wendy. After that day, my secret friendship with her only grew stronger until the day I'd been dreading for so long finally arrived.
That day, Wendy and I were chatting when suddenly, Mom walked into my room.
Wendy, hide under the bed quick. I went into fullblown panic mode. But Wendy, she didn't look alarmed at all. In fact, she was freaking smiling at mom. Ka, who are you talking to? Um, Mom, I can explain. This is Wendy. She She's the gardener's daughter. Gardener's daughter? Yes. Her stepmom is a wacko, so she's been hiding in our home since the last few days. Mom, she's a nice girl. I swear. Wait, Ka, what are you saying? Please, Mom, don't be mad. Wendy is my friend. In fact, she's the best thing that's ever happened to me. But sweetheart, where is this Wendy? She's right here sitting on my bed. I pointed at Wendy, who was now looking very uncomfortable. Mom, on the other hand, looked as if she'd seen a ghost. Kora, honey, are you all right? Of course. But mom seemed really worried as she marched straight to dad's study. I ran after her, screaming that Wendy was my friend and that she was a nice person. Okay, Ka, I believe you. Now go back to your room. Your dad and I have something important to discuss. Reluctantly, I went back to my room and saw that Wendy had left, too. I was mad at mom for scaring her away like that. But when Wendy returned the next day, I was ecstatic. Thank God you're finally here.
And I'm so sorry about yesterday. You know, mom is not used to me having friends over. Come now, I'll properly introduce you to her. Mom. Dad. Wendy is here again.
Please don't scream this time, Mom and Dad. I'll answer all your questions one by one. Then I turned around and told Wendy. Wendy, say hi to mom and dad.
Cora, honey, please stop fooling around.
What? But I'm serious, Mom. Serious about what? You do realize there's no one behind you, right? I looked around confused and sure enough, Wendy had left again. Well, I I think she's not ready to meet you guys right now. But don't worry, she'll come around. I sprinted back to my room, hoping to see Wendy there, but she was nowhere. I thought she would come back within a few hours like she always did, but days turned into weeks, and Wendy never came back.
Her abrupt leaving hit me badly. She was my only companion, after all. I started getting depressed. I stayed in bed for days refusing to eat anything. That one morning when I tried to get out of bed, I passed out. I woke up in the hospital with both my parents by my side. Oh, Kora, thank God you're awake. You really scared us, honey. Where's Wendy? Did you guys meet her? Mom and dad looked at each other for a moment. Then Dad spoke up. Wendy will be back soon, but in the meantime, we promise to be with you always. We'll go out for walks and hikes. Once you get better, I promise I'll take you to that lake in the woods." Dad teared up and mom's eyes turned moist, too. The next few days, a kind doctor attended to me. Turned out I had schizophrenia, and Wendy was just a figment of my imagination that I had created to cope with my loneliness. I had to undergo weeks of therapy, but I did manage to overcome my problem with my parents' love and support. Then one day, when I was finally feeling better, mom told me something shocking. Kora, you had a twin sister and we lost her to a contagious disease. Even the best doctors in the world couldn't save her.
It shook both of us so badly that we decided we couldn't take any risks with you. That's why we kept you secluded in a sanitized environment. We thought we were protecting you, but apparently we went too far and didn't realize what this was doing to your mental health.
That day, my parents and I had a long heart-to-heart talk and we finally made peace. As for Wendy, well, I never saw her again. But whenever I miss her, I start humming that song of hers and somehow that lightens up my mood instantly. La.
