The Most DEVASTATING Film You Haven't Watched

[00:00:00]Something worse than death is not being able to access it and being trapped in the same loop of suffering until someone else decides it. [music] In a shocking scene, we witness a dog named Rough who is struggling to survive, kicking with its last bit of strength in what appears to be a large bull. It is a British laboratory where scientists are trying to experiment to see how long a dog's will to survive can last. Ruff can't take it anymore and gives up. So his scientist take Rough out of the pool and revive him to then experiment on him next Monday. This film is from the 80s, a time where people weren't so afraid to make unsettling movies and it really shows. We are less than 3 minutes in in the movie and it's many disturbing scenes really traumatized me. Even more if you already know how afraid I am of food. So I thought I'd bring this cruel film to you because there's no way I will be the only one traumatized because of this film. Later, a man comes in to feed several dogs that are in the same cruel situation as Raf. However, some of them simply cannot withstand it and are discarded as garbage. When the man places on food for rough, he leaves his sail a little open. Rough breaths with some difficulty. At midnight, he's awakened by Sneer, a younger dog who has bandages in his head. Yes. Still shows a glimmer of optimism or rough talk to the horse of [music] he's just waiting for the white coat that is the scientist to end his life.

[00:01:16]Snider accompanies his friend and they realize the sale is open. It's their chance to escape. But Rough is so psychologically chained that he doesn't want to step outside of the cell. This brings to mind the story and metaphor of the chained elephant. This is the story of an elephant who from a very young age it's chained to the ground by one of his legs with a stake because he lacks the strength and despite struggling day after day, the stake remains in place.

[00:01:38]This conditioning resigns the little elephant to his fate. Because even as an adult, though he possesses the strength to destroy the thing, destroy the owner, destroy the circus and much more, he still believes he cannot. Lacking the strength, he has learned to accept his limitations and does not question his situation. Carrying a limiting belief throughout his life. This is what happens to Raf. Snether with his determination and the memory of a past with a loving master convinces Rough to escape together, reminding him that the pain he suffers when he has to face the pool. A puppy comes across and questions their escape since she believes the white co make her safe but also heal her. According to her, they are good.

[00:02:12]Wow, I bet she also believes in zodiac signs. Finally, they both dare to live and discover an even cruer reality. Not only are there dogs in that laboratory, but also rabbits, monkeys, and rats that are driven mad by the scientist experiments, and this only increases their horror of the place. Ruff and Sneer search for a way out of the cold, dark laboratory, but they can't seem to find anything. Then they hear the many white coats approaching. They hide in an incinerator to avoid detection. There they laid down to rest. And while they sleep, Sneer has a memory of his master who saved his life from being run over.

[00:02:45]Unfortunately, his master died in the process. This is important because it shows that Snder understands that not all humans are the same. And this gives him a glimmer of hope. Quite the opposite of Rough, who has never had a good master and has only encountered the most horrible side of humanity. Even though the place was warm enough for them to take a quick nap, they need to leave. Their friend's body, who died that afternoon, falls into that spot, which is very inconsiderate since they were resting there. Either way, they realize it's not a good idea to stay there. They both manage to get out through the ventilation shaft just in time before becoming Macdonald meet and they escape the lab and so they are now free. The two friends gaze at the star, but now they must find a home. Sneer tries to convince Ro that they should go to the city where people will treat [music] them well. But for now, he doesn't know where they are. In this place, there are no houses, no cars, no streets. So Sneer thinks that the men in white co have turned the payment into grass and mountains. Wow, it's true. I wonder the same thing. Rough mentions that humans are like death, but Snder says that his master was very different because he treated him well. So now they must focus on finding masters who can adopt them both. Ralph doesn't trust humans, but decides to trust his friend's word. So they both wander alone through the mountains until they find a house. Sneer is excited, saying that from now on they will have a better life. But that innocence is extinguished when the owner of the place simply throws him out and they have to escape.

[00:04:03]Similarly, they arrive in a town where Snder tries to charm the owners of a shop into giving them food, but they are turned away. Little Snether doesn't understand what happened to the people.

[00:04:12]He doesn't understand why they are so cruel. But it's not that those people are cruel. They are just British. Here, the movie with the true protagonist represents distinct psychological responses to trauma. Raf is deeply pessimistic and suspicious of humanity, having known nothing but the cruel confines of the lab. The Sneer, who [music] retains flashes of memory from a happy life as a beloved pet before he sailed to the facility, holds onto a desperate, sometimes hallucinatory hope that he and his friend can find kind humans. Then Sneer hallucinates, telling RV that his eyesight is falling and that he can no longer see. His own sense of despair triggered by sights that remind him of that road where his master was killed by incoming traffic. Suddenly, a car pulls up besides them. A man gets out. Upon seeing his theater, he recognized the caller and knows his lab dog, so he's going to take him. Of intervenes immediately and rescues his friend, and they escape together, and he and his friend walk through the mountains in search of food. Meanwhile, back at the lab, they realize that two experiments are missing and are obviously going to let them be [music] free to live a happily ever after, where absolutely nothing bad will happen again. Right up in the mountains, the two friends watch a flock of sheep being held by other sheep dogs and their owner. Now, their task is to get them both adopted. So, the two ducks try to improve themselves by hurting the sheep just like the other ducks. However, they're too rough and end up freeing the sheep that were already pinned up. The sheep dogs discover them and get annoyed because now they'll have double the work or something like that. I barely can't understand that accent >> and no bloody does. Hey, wag. It says we don't own f >> bloody cheek apologizes and tells him they just want a place to go because they don't have a master or a home. But the sheep dogs mention that their master isn't going to take them in. So they end up kicking them out of their territory too. Finding no place to stay and stranded in the middle of nowhere. Rough knows they will soon starve to death and even Sneer is losing hope. So Ro decides to show his will and tells him that they must return to their nature and become hunters. Four days have passed since they escaped. Therefore, they kill one of the chief and then find an abandoned and secret mine where they can stay safely. Although secret is a little bit of a big word since, well, it has a driveway, but the poor creatures agree safe. However, this piece won't last long because the lab has already learned that two dogs are missing. It won't be long before the sheep owners go out to hunt them down. The next day, after hunting another sheep, they both return to the mine, but this time they are not alone. A pair of malleable eyes shines in the darkness. Here we meet Todd, a fox who has been watching them for the past few days. Rough is completely suspicious of Finn and tells him to leave if he doesn't want to end up like the sheep. But Dodd kindly tells them to work together. Otherwise, they won't survive in that place for long. Dot's deal is simple. He will teach them how to survive in that place in exchange for then hunting the chip together and sharing the food. Both dots consider it and eventually agree. Broth knows he can't let his guard down with someone like him. Dot explains that they are very dumb, which duh, my boy has literally a crack in his head. Brain damage can make you lose one neuron or two. The fox thinks they're dumb for causing a disturbance among the [music] ship when there are better ways to hunt them down without so much effort. So the next morning, Raf chases the ship to the top of a cliff where Nether pushes it down the ravine getting their food without much effort. We then see that has removed the patch he is wearing his head revealing a scar from what was possibly an operation and soon we will see what this operation was about. Days pass and our protagonists along with Todd continue to survive by eating the animals the sheep her keeps on his horn.

[00:07:38]The villagers assume dogs are killing their livestock. Meanwhile, Todd gets angry with Rough, telling him he's a fool for eating the sheep in the open field, especially so close to the farm.

[00:07:48]Now, the humans will be able to capture them more easily. [music] And with that, Todd leaves them for his own safety.

[00:07:53]Days pass and we see that the villagers have organized themselves to capture and kill the docks because they are eating their livestock. In the morning, Todd wakes the two friends in the mine and tells him to get out of there because dozens of armed men are searching for them in the surrounding mountains. Rough thinks this might be his chance to find a master like Sneer told him because after all they are not bad people. Do tells them not to be foolish. The humans will blow them to bits if they find them so they must escape. It's curious how despite the supposed freedom they want in these dreamlike landscapes. [music] The environment is truly brutal and unforgiving. We see their innocence fading [music] and it leaders optimism weakening. They're forced to prey on local sheep which brings them into direct [music] conflict with farmers and isolates them from potential human masters. But they had no other chance.

[00:08:38]The world itself pushed them to this limit. [music] The SNER and Rough's journey continues to be a constant struggle for survival. Rough fights to keep Sneer [music] safe, but Sneer's head wound affects his health and sanity, weakening him. Doc convinces them to escape and they venture into the abandoned mine, avoiding detection by humans. People hear rumors that two dogs escape from a nearby lab and the shepherd calls the laboratory demanding payment for his sheep as he's losing money. However, they don't say yes, but they don't say no either. The scientist doesn't confirm the rumors because, well, maybe it's because this lab might not be so legal or they're simply not up to date with taxes. In this economy, you just don't know. Sneer was looking for food and one of the hunters saw him, but he didn't know that he was one of the escape dogs. So, the man just wanted to play with him. However, Sneer jumps and accidentally fires the hunter's shotgun.

[00:09:24]Immediately, Sneer flees into the mountains in fear. And for two days, Rough searches for him until he finds him hiding in some ruins. Sneer tells Rob what happened and now things have become doubly complicated because the lad director makes some calls and contacts the hunter to get rid of the dogs that are eating the farmership.

[00:09:41]Steer feels immense guilt over his master death blaming himself for something beyond his control. He distance himself from everyone because he believes that everything around him is destroyed because [music] of him.

[00:09:52]This absolute despair as well as all the bad things that have happened makes him believe all of this it's his [music] own fault. The trauma is so great and the hallucination so strong that the poor little dog barely has any optimism [music] left. Ralph and find another house belonging to some ladies who don't welcome them warmly. Even hitting ravel brooms but because of the very noticeable wound on's head they take bey [music] good does it? Locked off he begins to hallucinate remembering [music] his old life with his master in a home where he was loved which prevents him from distinguishing reality from imagination.

[00:10:28]He's trapped in his head. Man, this poor guy just wants to be loved like he [music] was before. Rough is very worried about his friend's whereabouts.

[00:10:35]Knowing where he is, he asks Thot for help to get him out. When they find him, Sneer is in a [music] state of total paranoia, but they manage to rescue him before the police arrive. However, Ral bites one of the officers to make him release his friend. This act gives [music] the authorities even more reason to arrest him. On the other hand, news spread that a wealthy man has been found dead from a gunshot wound and dog tracks were found at the crime scene.

[00:10:57]Therefore, authorities and media are going to that town to investigate what happened. Both the scientists and journalists are searching for the dogs and one of the scientists travels with a girl unaware. She's a journalist. He tells her all about the secret and illegal experiments they were doing on the dogs probably to try to impress her or something because we all know that talking about bad things gets off bad boys vibes better than looking at the weather app and acting nonchalant. Turns out that Ralph was being used, as I mentioned at the beginning, to see how long a dog can fight for its life, while theater underwent brain surgery to test objective and subjective reasoning.

[00:11:33]Basically, they wanted the dog to have access to metacognition, which is based on analyzing one's own thoughts, something that for the moment only humans can do, which is basically what we starting to see in sneer. So caught up on his head, thinking about the trauma, his past, how he feels guilt on his master head. He's so conscious about his own thoughts and each time he's affecting him more. Speaking of Sneer, his condition worsens after his surgery and he's losing his sense of direction while the hunter chasing them is on the verge of catching them. The news spreads across the country with the information the scientists gave the journalist. And now everyone knows these dogs are experimental and everyone just assumes they likely had the bubonic plague. So the citizens called them the plague dogs. Oh my gosh, it's like the title of this movie. The days go by and the poor dogs are skiing and bones. Sneer can't move forward. Dad says something to him that is very interesting. He tells him that the mind is Cebu. Ever since he had brain surgery to allow him to think like humans, as killed someone even though it wasn't on purpose, adding to what happened with his loving master, Steer feels a lot of guilt, something he cannot stop overthinking. A curious thing that none of the other dogs seem to feel. Dosesi says, "I swear gentlemen, that to be too conscious is an illness. A real thoroughgoing illness, [music] which basically means in Minecraft terms that being hyper aware of your own thoughts, flaws, and the absurdity of life makes [music] it nearly impossible to act, trapping you in an endless loop of analysis and misery. And if we add to that the amount of trauma this [music] poor creature had to endure in his life, that conscious is basically destroying him, making him feel guilty about something he had never control over. As Ste talks about the fear of death, as he's aware of the fading of his own existence, and that's when we realize that little dog's mental process [music] has changed. At first, he was an optimistic dog who lived in the present and only thought about eating and finding a master. But now the harsh reality of understanding the world and being aware of his own existence has brought him to the brink of depression and he no longer wants to think but he can't stop. They keep trying to hunt but this time the deers know to defend themselves and the [music] poor dogs lose all their aura. The fox moxen and R doesn't let that life which causes an argument and Todd lives in on their own.

[00:13:48]Desperate they sneak into the hen house but are so lucky that they are caught red-handed facing a gun. He's stopped by his wife. If these two are the animals that escape from the lab, it's best to let them go before they contaminate the rest of the livestock. They rest in a ruin. In the duck's minds, they believe this is a test by the white coast to test their endurance. We see that steer is more deteriorated. Rough endures it as best as he can. We [music] reach day 40. The dog's endurance is admirable.

[00:14:12]But with each passing day, resources and [music] places to take refuge run out.

[00:14:17]They see a car with its doors open because the driver was taking a quick dick. Without hesitation, the dogs jump in and grab whatever food they can. The drivers scared by the news reports runs away and I understand why. When I was younger, dogs used to chase me and I've been afraid of them ever since. But conveniently, he had a camera which he uses to take pictures of the animals and send them to the local news station.

[00:14:38]Rough and Sneer run into one of the sheep dogs who is surprised that his owner is running away in field. He tells him that the last time he ran like that, it was because one of the dogs had rebies. asks him what that is and the ship dog says it's I sees. His answer isn't clear because I still can't understand his accent. But he says he doesn't smell any disease on them. So who do we believe? The media that spreads the news about the dogs with a deadly virus making dogs even more feared and isolated or the nose of a dog that rarely fails. The snow calmed down but this made the dog tracks visible to the hunter who had been following them for some time. As they cross a valley, the hunter spotted them. Ralph stopped because he was tired and didn't want to go any further. Briser wasn't about to leave his friend behind. They were both in the hunter's side. And as just as he was about to shoot, Todd attacked him from behind, which caused him to miss the shot and fall off the cliff. All this serves to satisfy the hunger that the three have been caring for several days. And although this is mere survival, it is something that will not be well received by the people of the town. Although the hunters should say that it was his own fault for falling, but I don't know. It seems he's socially inept. Dad rejoins the group and they continue the escape from the mountains crossing dozens of kilometers. The army will not give up until they wiped out the plague dogs. So they decide to strategically cover the entire perimeter. The army's pursuit intensifies as the middle of the portion the supposed threat posed by the leap dogs. Paranoia and fear grieve society and the authorities are determined to eliminate Sneer and Rough. These are moment of extreme tension. Soldiers are everywhere, so dogs ask as a distraction, telling Ruffets leader that no matter what happens, they shouldn't look back. Just keep running. Todd alerts all the military dogs, leading them on a chance to the mountains, which takes quite a while. However, his cunning didn't allow him to survive the sign as he was caught by the shape dogs, and in his attempt to escape, the soldiers finish him. Rough and Snder only heard the gunshot. They still hold out the hope of reuniting with their friend. They ran down the hill and hid on a train that took them to the beach.

[00:16:36]However, an helicopter seized them for beyond lay only water and the hope of [music] finding freedom they have fought so hard for. Delirious, Sneer says that beyond the sea lies the island they had to reach. Ralph angrily says that they won't take him back to the lab. But he has to face his greatest fear, [music] something that has been haunting him throughout his entire odyssey and has prevented him from doing many things.

[00:16:58]The many like a titanic monster is sped out of [music] him. The soldiers are getting closer and closer. Sneer merged with the sea without any trouble. Rough is afraid, a fear conditioned by long hours holding water in his lungs. But this might also be one of the only [music] advantages he possesses. The soldiers are approaching and Roth throws himself into the sea, swimming into the unknown. And he [music] swings with all his might, fighting to find a better world where they will never be hurt again. But Snider could go no [music] further. And Ralph begging not to give up, to just stick with him because he wouldn't leave his friend [music] alone, just as he never had. No matter what happened, Ralph promised he would bring him back alive to the next island.

[00:17:37][music] And and so the two friends plunge into the sea, disappearing into the mist. As the credits roll, Alan Price's song, Time [music] and Tide, plays its convey that they no longer feel pain. I've left this cruel world behind. I have peace of mind. I've arrived home where I'll find a friend.
