What Australians Want Visitors to KnowAdded:
Hi, welcome to another live with Lex. We are doing my cat background looks like a looks like a sculpture, but he's real as you can see. Sorry, add um we're doing a a fun list today. Um, most of my audience are Australian. So, I thought it would be interesting to start compiling a list of suggestions from Australians about things that they would like visitors to know about Australia. Um, I actually did this similar kind of live on Instagram.
I want to say it was last week and um, it went really well that I got so many good suggestions. I have about 50 so far. Anything from like you've got to call rubbish rubbish to get a spider and snake chart to uh what the definition of a ute is.
Uh the definition of yeah na na. Um the type of fuel options here at the servo.
Um triple0ero for emergency. So this can be anything you guys. It can be uh silly like someone said that um the sausage needs to go diagonally on the bread when you go to a sausage sizzle. Um and it can be serious like triple0ero for emergencies, right? So what is it that if you had the option um to share things about your country because again most of my audience are Australian and if you are not Australian you are welcome join learn let's all do this together um what do you want to what do you want to tell people if you could tell the world about Australia because here's the thing while you're thinking I'm going to talk um and then just start dropping them in the comments and we can go over them. But the thing is chips um in the states because I realize the world is big but I can speak to the states. Uh we don't hear much about Australia whether that's by design or not. Chips, this is you by the way. Um it has all three of my cats on it.
I went to a pottery class anyway. Um the the things we hear about Australian states are pretty standard stuff mostly about the dangerous animals.
Um about of course we know and love Steve Irwin. He's just like a global treasure.
Um what else we know about Chris Hemsworth?
Margot Robbie. Now, the guy that was in the movie with Margot Robbie, something a lordy. Um, oh, sorry. He's really cute. I'm sorry. I don't know his name.
Um, we know about a lot of Aussie celebrities.
Yeah, Jason. Thank you, Rosie. Um, but we don't hear a lot of other things, which is crazy because once you come here, you're like, why is nobody talking about this? Right? like um just I feel like Australia has a lot going for it and um and I don't I've always wondered you can tell me in the comments if like a lot of that is by design like Australia likes kind of being on its own its own little separate unit away from the craziness of the world or um do Australians have a desire to spread the things that they're doing well here and the things that um they enjoy here with the rest of the world.
Um yeah, it's just it's it's it's got me thinking. And so this list is going to go live and then be published on my page for folks who are coming here to um to learn from. So let me know if you have anything. Mark Hill says, "First we drive on the correct side of the road."
Hey Mark, that's a Yes. So you drive on So the Commonwealth countries drive on the left side of the road. But guys, the world is so big. What is right and what's wrong, right? Am I right? Am I right? Right.
Um, that was something I was probably one of, that was one of the scariest things about moving here was for me was like, how am I going to drive on the other side of the road? Uh, it ended up being like super easy to learn. It just you have to build confidence, you know?
It just takes time. Um, I still feel weird turning right like uh making waiting to make a right turn and then seeing a car making a right turn where I am. If that makes sense. Like it's just little little awkward. Something about the positioning of the cars and the lanes and the driver side on the right side.
It kind of throws me every time. That's honestly the only thing that I struggle with. And it's not even a struggle. It's just an observation where I'm like, "Oh, I got to pay attention." Um, hi, welcome, welcome. Uh, Rosie says, "I love that your boys say been not or that my boy says been not trash." He does.
That was one of the first things that he learned uh moving here in terms of the um Aussie slang, Aussie words is Ben. Um mate, he said he started saying oi like really really soon after we moved here.
I hear him in his room. Oi. No chips.
Oi.
Okay, Rosie says, "Um, we have a very strong ethnic culture in Melbourne. They brought tradition with them in the 50s and 60s, and it's not been diluted."
Melbourne has some of the best food ever. It reminds me of Houston that in that way. I'm from Houston, Texas, and Melbourne's food scene is so good. It's so good. I think that's indicative of the um cultural variations they have in that city. It's great. Yeah. Oi. Yep. He still says it all the time. I love it. I chuckle every time I hear it. Um, we've had enough rain in Brisbane. Yeah.
Are you in Brisbane, too? This is crazy.
I'm like, is it usually this rainy right now? I feel like I don't remember.
I don't remember last year being this long of a rainy season. Um, driving.
David says, "Driving on the left dates back to knights leaving their sword hand ready on the right if needed for incoming possible attacks." Yeah, I have. I have heard that.
That's if that's so crazy if you think about cultural histories like that and just how long some of these things date back.
Yeah. Um, Australia would be therapy for most busy Americans.
Right on. Yeah. I Yeah, there's something about being here that really um relaxes you. I don't know. It's probably like there's probably a lot of reasons for that, but um it's also just like well I know it varies depending on where you are in Australia, but a lot of the heavily populated areas are so tropical and beautiful that like that alone can elevate your mood.
Um woohoo, I made a live. Hey Sonia, I hope I'm saying that right with two J's. Um, this is Chips. Chips has decided to sit here for this live.
I think he can see himself. He just realized he can see himself right now.
He's trying to figure out.
Oh, now he hears the the crow. Um, okay.
So, what else? What else do we want people to know? I'll give you some examples. This is about Australia. These are like there's so many things if you think about it. you kind of have to just like get your mental juices flowing. Um, here's one.
Early morning walks, you want to bring a stick.
And we all know why. Because the spiderw webs, right? Um, what else? Oh, the random breathalyzers, which by the way, it happens in that happens in the states, just I don't think it's enforced as much as you see here.
Um, don't touch the cute little blue octopus is another one.
Um, someone said that it's uh not cool to ask about salary or property ownership.
Shops close early in Queensland. So, what what are some things you've got in the back of your head if you're an Australian?
Um, oh, what an ESI is ESI.
I love that name for cooler.
You know what? We probably need a separate list of all the words. The words need their own um feature.
Let's see. Um, have we considered staying in Australia permanently? Oh, well, we're here on a a visa. So, um, and it's sponsored through my husband's job. So, um, we are coming up on two years here and the visa is for four years. So, I mean, yeah, like we're hoping that they keep us as long as um you know, they can.
We're liking it here for sure. Um, good day from Melbourne.
Yeah. Essie not cooler. Yep. Okay. What else?
Uh, someone said swearing isn't as offensive here.
How do we feel about that? I would say that's actually probably that's probably accurate especially like I'm from the south so there's like that you know southern expectations hospitality mentality that like we grew up thinking swearing was just the worst thing ever. Um, and now even if I swear with my mom, I'm like, "Oh my god, I just did it.
I just said the f-word in front of my mom." But yeah, I would say that there is a definitely more of a laid-back culture with swearing here.
It's still like you got to use it. You wouldn't want to, you know, you wouldn't want a primary school kid to go say something like that to their teacher or something, but like it's a little bit less um strict here, maybe.
Um the magic able says yes.
Um uh David, I don't know. Am I Is it appropriate the yank joke? Um okay. Patty says, "Hi, I'm 83 years old and you are such a ray of sunshine. You are open to everything.
Such a joy." Oh, thank you, Patty.
That's so nice.
I love that your boys say Melbourne.
Yeah, well, that wasn't always the case.
Let's be real. Okay, we all said all the words wrong. I'm pretty sure when I first heard of Brisbane, I said Brisbane, um, Melbourne.
Um, oh, how did I say cans? I think it was like KS.
Look, I I am no better than any average person who knows very little about Australia. I I did all the things wrong.
Um, hey Lex, I'm interested in where you get your personality and down to earth feelings from a like from mom, dad, or friends?
I don't know. I feel like um I I guess I am. I uh I've Thank you. I don't know. I'm like flattered. I don't know what to say. Um my Yeah, I have a good good family full of, you know, good humored people that like to laugh and that's nice. I've also been through some stuff in my life that has helped me realize that um life is precious and uh the struggles are what have made me kind of laugh through a lot of the things that I've been through.
And yeah, I just I don't know. Um I also have a very hilarious husband who like helps remind me to not take things so seriously. But thank you. I appreciate that. Um, do you have a lot of followers and the states are mostly Aussies? Um, it's like 90% Australian.
Like, yeah.
Um, I think some Australians are surprised by that, but I mean, I am in Australia, so they're geo targeting, right? So, like most of my stuff gets pushed out to Aussies. Um, Tazzy, we're going to come to Tasmania in December, I think. So stay tuned. I'm fascinated that you're Mexican. Oh yeah, my mom is the the Mexican American. Um other half is German.
Hi. Just drop in to say I love your content. I'm wasting time at work. A thank you.
Um what code of footy do I follow? Okay, this is so funny you guys. I'm going to have to rename this video because I wanted to talk about things that I wanted y'all to tell me to tell people coming here and it's turning into a Q&A which is fine but I'm just like blushing a little bit. What code of footy do I follow in or AFL? Um I don't know which one should I follow.
I'm not going to lie. I don't know what I'm doing with that. We don't We're I'm just not a sports person.
I'm not a sports person. I will go to games. I will wear the colors. I will even paint my face. I will bring signs because that's just the type of person I am. Like I'll get into anything. But but then like to go home and follow those teams and like know the scores and the players and all that is just not an interest of mine. But I do want to get to some games because I know Aussies love love love their sports. Anything with a ball, they love it.
Might I might dare I say more than Americans.
Almost maybe it's possible that y'all like sports more than Americans.
Um all right. Uh, Tazzy on December is hotter than you think it will be. Great. I'm down for that.
Um, so I'm from Queensland, therefore NRL is what I should be watching.
Oh, hi Vicki. I'm sorry. I I'm I don't have a moderator, so I'm doing my best.
Thank you for joining. Have I considered playing netball? No, I've never considered that. I'm not against it. Um, I tried out for the basketball team in the States, which I know it's different than basketball, but similar concept.
Um, I think it's fascinating. I feel like it's harder than basketball because there's no um board behind the net.
Um, you can follow both codes. Okay.
Um, oh, hey, there you go. That's one. Glenn in Australia it's sport.
Really?
Sorry, I'm just um I'm just typing that up so I don't forget for my list. So, do you like sport? Not sports.
Is that what it would be?
Do you like watching sport?
Is that actually what you're supposed to say here?
cuz I that's hard for me.
So sport is sport but maths is maths but sport has a lot of different options like maths.
I'm not sure how I feel about this to be honest.
State of origin. Yes. Uh, actually that is the only game that I have watched since being here and my husband and I had no idea what we were watching because we had never seen a game before.
I actually recorded us watching it briefly. It's buried on my page somewhere. We're like, "Wait, why aren't they stopping? Why are they keep running? Why is the ball getting passed behind them?" Like, we were so clueless.
Um, what's the Aussie critter I like the most? Uh the um platypus is my favorite. Absolutely adore them. I think they're such little freaks of nature in the best way possible and I admire their weirdness.
Um and their elusiveness. I've seen I've seen one, but I had to get up very early to do that and I got very lucky. And then my friends who I went back to the same place to show them in hopes that we would find one in the middle of the day.
I was like, "Guys, it's not the odds are low." Like, just telling you, we split off cuz I was looking at bats on the boardwalk and they split off to like a lookout point for a platypus lookout point and they like one of my friends ran back over. They're like, "We just saw one. We just got a picture. We saw one." I'm like, "Are you joking?" This was like I want to say noon in the day.
This was in Melany in Queensland. Um they saw a freaking platypus. It's like what are that's so cool. It was so cool.
I didn't see it. They did. But I was just so glad that um they did. Your son sounds almost naturalized now. How will he be if you go back to Texas? Um oh winnham. Winnham. You say Winnham, right? Winnham bloke here.
um you know like kids there's heaps of kids in the world that move all the time and they do okay. Um the that helps with adaptability and um adjusting to you know life and the environment on life's terms. So like if and when we move back um we're going to have to cross that bridge when we get to it. It's going to be hard for many reasons and that is going to be one of them which we knew coming into it that that was going to be uh something that we would have to face when the time comes.
Um oh pronouncing emil correctly.
Yeah, it was funny. If you're on Instagram, maybe you saw my live there uh recently, but my husband made an appearance, which is a rare thing. And someone asked him to say it.
He failed. Let's just say that. Um yeah, cuz we say emu emu emu emu. It's kind of like that.
That pronunciation is very similar to the pronunciation I now know about Aldi.
Like in the States, we say Aldi. It's almost hard for me to say now because now I can only say it like Aldi. So I'm now having to like go back and remind myself how we used to say it, if that makes sense. Like same with um Melbourne and Melbourne, right?
Have I seen a drop air? I have at the caravan park. It was very scary. It was eating um minor bird carcasses in the tree and I made eye contact with it.
Drop bear awareness.
Adding that one to the list. Can't ever be too safe.
However much time to allocate to Tasmania is not enough. I know we're gonna have to go back.
Um, let's see. Majority Aussies following.
It's also because I point out a lot of things um Aussies take for granted or had no idea weren't a thing elsewhere. Yeah, it's it's really cool. I didn't quite get the allure of the stuff I was posting about life here until I saw a British woman move to the States and she went to our beloved Target in the States, which is much different over there than it is here in Australia. And she was blown away by the options that were available to her of um comforters, quilts, duvets, y'all call them dunas, I think. like the ones with the snaps, the ones with the zippers, the ones that don't have that, the ones that's not a duvet, like thick, thin, 10 different sizes and and styles.
And she's just like, "What is this?"
She's like, "Where I'm from, we just have I forget what they what they have, but she's like, "We just have one thing."
And I was just thinking, "Wow, that's fascinating that um that you know, something that small is that interesting to learn. It It just helps give you some perspective on on other parts of the world, but also like people's journey moving somewhere new and the little things you don't think about that are an adjustment that absolutely are an adjustment.
Um has anyone any of your family from the US come out to visit me? Yes. um my sister and her husband and um her son, my nephew came last year in June.
And then my husband's mom and his aunt came in September last year. And then we had our two best friends from Houston come with us to our trip to New Zealand.
Um and then they came back here with us to Brisbane for a while. That was in February of this year. So, we've had quite a few visitors. It's been very nice. Um, I think we might be staying here for Christmas and um my husband's mom is going to come up for a long period of time.
Rosie says um I think your son will be so cultured. He'll be the kid that has lived in Australia so much to teach his mates. Yeah. Yeah, I agree. There's there's gonna be so much good to come out of it.
Oh yeah, wear maroon in Queensland on the 27th. I need to get my son something that he can wear to school cuz they also do that. You're like, wear maroon or blue, right?
Um Oh yeah, the dingo took my baby. Yeah, that's a sensitive subject.
that I don't think Americans know. They they think it's they don't know that it's based off of a real occurrence.
Um, that would be a good history lesson for them because they think it's just something like silly, some silly phrase from a movie or something like um, yeah, American hair relocating at the end of June to Melbourne. Listening intently.
Thank you. A welcome everybody. Welcome Meg.
Um, I do offer uh uh consults if you want to book a call with me um a virtual call if you have any like specific questions or need some guidance through this big change. But um yeah, that's really exciting. Does anybody have any specific tips for Meg who's headed to Melbourne?
Um is slip slop slap a thing in the States? No.
Um, I mean, yes, but not that saying, you know, like we do we do the same kind of thing. So, hold on. Let me try to remember. Slip.
Hold on. Wait, what is it? I know slap is Wait. Okay. So, I know it's sunscreen hat.
I don't remember actually.
It's like to me it's like slip soft slap just means like make yourself ready to be outside. But I can't think of like what each one slip on a hat, slip on sunscreen.
Okay.
Um, you've done awesome job putting yourself out there. Oh, a thank you.
Okay. Someone tell me what slip slap slap is.
Um, someone's saying Melbourne is cool in June. It's not the American summer, so bring some warmer clothing. Yeah, Melbourne does get cold. It's down there.
Um, have you noticed that different Australian states call things differently? Oh, yeah, absolutely. I That's kind of like um in the States, you'll you'll get some of that, too.
Like um the Midwest, I think, calls soft drinks what you would call soft drink here, they call it pop. And down south we'll call it soda. Like a soda is a soda. Um some some of us will say Coke even though it's not a Coke. Be like, "Oh, I really want a Coke." And then you they'll be like, "What kind of Coke do you want?" Like I'll take a Sprite.
Um have you Oh, welcome. A people are welcome. Dare you to eat a dessert spoon of Vegemite Live? Are you kidding me?
No way.
No freaking way. Oh god. I'm just thinking about it in my head.
Can't do that. I mean, I can, but I don't want to.
Um, sunscreen, hat, and shade is slip, slap, slap. Yeah. Okay. Melbourne tips.
Learn to dress in layers for all four seasons in one day. All right. I'm going to add that to my list because that's true. When we went to Melbourne, we we packed a wide variety.
I ended up not using a lot of what I packed cuz I thought y'all had told me so many times like, "It's so cold. It's so cold." And it was, but you know when like someone prepares you so much for something, you're expecting it to be like so much worse than you actually than it actually is when you go. It's kind of like that.
Toggs versus swimmers. Yes. What?
Fis T. What is that? versus Devon. Oh, is Devon Isn't Devon like a meat or something? I don't eat meat, so I eat fish, but that's it. Um, slip on a shirt, slap on sunscreen, slip slop on sunscreen, and slap on a hat. I think I think they meant slop on sunscreen. Oops. Okay, I'm going to copy and paste that one.
Thank you. I'm adding that.
Uh, yeah, slop on sunscreen. Okay.
Make sure you add to your list that this is a wonderful place. It is also considered racist and harsh by many.
Bring thick skin and a meh attitude to it. Only way to not let it get to you.
Yeah.
Thank you, Ross.
Hold on. I'm a little behind here.
Um, Bunning Bunnings hats are great. Wear an old long sleeve dress shirt while driving.
What?
And Melvin? Why?
Bunnings hats are great. Did not know this.
Why are they great? because like the rim is bigger on the hat or something or they're just cute or would like you to see you try the nut bush. I've done the nut bush actually.
Um it's also buried somewhere. Maybe I'll find it and repost it. I probably should just do a redo because it's been so long. Oh, the size of the Bunnings hat is perfect.
Does it say Bunnings really big on it? I take it.
See, these are all like little helpful tips that you don't think would move the needle, but they really do um give people those little like insider hints that make their day much easier when they get here.
Um, walked my daughter to school this morning and I counted 19 Bunnings umbrellas. I had to chuckle. Oh my gosh, those umbrellas are everywhere. You're so right. I'm going to put that Bunnings hats and umbrellas.
Man, Bunnings is doing so many things, right? Bunnings is like um Home Depot or Lowe's in the States for Meg and anyone else listening who doesn't know what Bunnings is. It actually, if you want to feel like home, go to Bunnings because it's huge. It's a huge warehouse. The aisles are massive. Um and the variety is insane. We when we first went, we went to one that had like a Taco Bell and a 7-Eleven in the in the parking lot in the car park and my husband and I were like, "Are we back home? What is going on?"
This great um uh tell Americans not to click their fingers or whistle at waiting staff.
Oh, I don't know anyone who does that, but yeah, that's just kind of rude. Um, on the band that goes around the crown of the hat, it says Bunnings. Wait, the umbrellas are only $12. That's great.
Have I discovered Aussie music? Yes. Um, I'm actually I'm going to be doing a radio segment uh in Logan in June, and they're asking me to send some favorite Aussie tunes to them so they can play during the breaks. And the very first one I thought of was John Farnum's You're the Voice. I I listened to that song. I knew that song before we came here because it's in a movie that I really like called Hot Rod.
And um I loved finding out how loved that song is. Um but that one is for sure going to be played. And then the other one I like is this is Australia like gang gang or something like that.
Um, I love Tam and Paula. We saw Tamman Paula in the States. He's a newer age guy. Um, has some like pop hits, but his stuff is so great.
Um, watch Russell Crow explain NRL beforehand. Okay, hold on. That could be a good idea for um for uh a video.
Is it funny or is it serious? Actually, don't tell me.
I'm going to do like a live recording of me wa watching it for the first time maybe if I can get time to do it. Um haven't had a Mozzy invasion here in Manley for a few years.
The BCC control program is going well.
What is that?
Living next door to Alice. Yeah.
Next door to Alice.
Oh yeah. Lowe's.
I'm gonna add that actually. David, Australia does have a Lowe's here and it's spelled the same way, but it's a it is not a um like hardware, you know, whatever kind of store.
Yes, there is a Costco. Well, there's a Costco in Brisbane, too. It's like 35 minutes from our house. If you want to taste what like most pizza places in the States taste like and what most y'all call them postmix drinks, fountain drinks taste like in the States. Um, go to Costco and get yourself a fountain drink and a sliced pizza.
It's so good. It's so good. I know a lot of Aussies don't like fountain drinks postmix because like they claim that the balance is always off, but in the States it's so popular that like no matter where you get your fountain drink, it's going to be good. And there's something about a fresh fountain drink like I really miss I miss just and I miss the free refills. Um yeah, Costco's Costco's great. That's another place you can go when you want to feel at home. Actually, this is also a good idea for um another video. Where to go when you want to feel at home, where Americans can go in Australia. Trying to think of where else that would be.
7-Eleven, Taco Bell, like all the chains.
Um it's so funny how much Australians like KFC here.
Oh, like any big shopping indoor shopping centers like our malls in the States, except the ones here have um grocery stores in them.
Um, all right.
Okay. NRL explanation. That's a great idea. Okay.
There's a lot of us in Australia.
It's Australia.
Oh, that's cute. A I like how um like radio DJs and stuff say Australia. They kind of like they kind of have like that crisp s.
It's like Australia. Australia.
Australia.
A Australia. I can't do it.
Um the long sleeve shirt keeps the sun off of your right arm while while driving.
Oh. Oh, interesting.
Omeg, give it a couple years of being here. You're gonna you you are going to crave that Costco pizza at one point in the first couple years of being here. I I guarantee it. Come back to me and tell me and tell me if that was true in like a year and a half or so cuz I never would have gotten Costco pizza. I mean, she has a point. I never would have sought out going to Costco for their pizza living in the States. Um, and now that I can't get American pizza, cuz even the Domino's here is not the Domino's here's it's a little rough, not going to lie.
It something's not right. Domino's in the States tastes better than that. But I I Costco is the only American kind of tasting pizza that I have found. I can find really good tasting pizza in like any city in Australia. That's not the point. It's like there's an American taste to the Costco pizza that I just can't I can't explain any more than that. Um, a good show to watch is Love It or Listed on Channel 10.
Okay. I haven't been to the Corumban bird sanctuary, but gosh, the amount of people that suggested that to me, I I know. I gotta go. Am I ever gonna see your face again?
I know. I know what it is, but this is YouTube, so I can't say it.
Pizza ovens. I know. My friend has one of those pizza ovens on her back deck.
It's like a a tripod with like a big round whatever. What are they called?
The Anyway, it doesn't matter. The the legit pizza ovens.
Have you and your family experienced the Australia effect? Yep.
Absolutely.
Absolutely. I think I have a picture somewhere um of me before moving here. I just did a a carousel on Instagram of how my skin has changed since living here and I so I found old pictures of me.
Uh yeah, I was just like a little, you know, um sorry I the video is backwards, but so that's like a before.
I just have like rougher, bumpier skin, maybe a little bit of inflammation, lots of eyeliner.
Um, I just feel like my skin now is like much healthier and more vivacious or like just brighter. Don't know how to explain it. I don't wear I still wear makeup. I don't wear as much makeup, especially on my eyes. Um, that's that's one way. like I guess more of a superficial way, but um I just feel much more calmer, like not so stressed out. And that also could just be that I'm not working a stressful full-time job that I was before I moved here. Um, but the work life balance here is so nice that it kind of gets you to reset your priorities in a way like like um oh this is another thing I can put on the list of things to know. you might you probably won't get anything done on the weekends like people don't people shut down on the weekends business-wise whereas in the states it's common and like you become used to being able to talk to an agent online or customer service or something like that and here it's like oh no we got to wait till Monday because it's Friday 5:00 pm everything's closed but um to that point it also allows you to have a better balance at like when that is removed you don't have the option to work work work even on the weekends you're kind of forced and same with like a lot of businesses they just shut down like there you are not expected and I think isn't it like illegal or something now or at least in some states in Australia to work after hours or something don't quote me on that I don't know I just remember hearing something about that so yeah as a result of that you just get to like feel a little bit more relaxed family time.
Um, Domino's crust in Australia is terrible.
Yeah, you told us of your love for Solo. Yeah, I need I need to look at the Solo Man ad. Solo is so freaking good. It's so good. I have to I get like a little little glass like this much every now and then. I'm like, so good.
Um, all right. What else we got?
I'm in Oh. Oh, you're in New York, Megan. Yeah.
Yeah, that's like the best pizza you can ever find. So, that's fair. Sorry, I'm behind here.
Um, have you been to see stage show at QAC? No, I want to. I really want to.
Like, I really want to. I need to make that a goal cuz my friend just went to one and she was telling me about it and it just reminded me how I would I would love to check that out.
Oh yeah, I saw Beetlejuicees starting in June. I would go see Beetlejuice.
Way less makeup.
David says, "No need to be polite.
You're an Aussie now. Domino's is crap."
Um, yeah. I mean, you're not wrong. Can you do some posts on the similarities between Texas and Queensland or Australia? Yeah, I actually still have that on my list. I just haven't developed it. Was it you or someone else that suggested that on my last live?
Um, all right.
Um, is that fresh pasta or Oh, wait. I don't know what that is. If you're in Brisbane, my favorite pizza places are Piccolo Pizza and Hell Pizza.
I have not heard of these.
I literally have um like so many lists of things to like go do and try.
Hold on. Piccolo and what heat heart hell.
Thank you. I will check that off.
Um, your boss can't call you at all hours and impede your home on your home life. The right to not answer work calls after hours. I'm sure Me on here is shocked by that.
New York especially can be brutal with the work life balance, right? Um, take a visit up north and go inland. Avoid the tourist areas and see real Queensland.
Oh my gosh, I do. I want to. It's on our list.
Bundberg ginger beer is the bomb. All right, let me just add that, too. That's great.
Um, Melbourne is sister city to Boston, but we're very much New York.
Me, too. I plan on seeing Beetlejuice.
Awesome.
Um uh not shocked but thrilled. Yeah, that's the mentality. Um I'm going to have to hop off here in about 5 minutes. I just realized that we've been going for 45 minutes. And if anybody is watching this post live, um, thank you for staying on because this ended up being something a little different than what I had initially planned. But we still got some good some good general knowledge about Australia, random facts, hot tips, all of those are great. So, thank you if you contributed. If you have any more within the next few minutes, let me know.
Um, so Meg is asking, "What is some what are some overly touristy things to avoid?"
Um, are you asking for Melbourne or just for like everywhere in Australia? Um, it's a good question that I I mean, if anybody wants to answer, go for it. Um because I have done a lot of the touristy stuff and I don't think I've been here long enough to be like ew instead of here you've got to go here. We've done a little bit of everything. Um and some of the touristy things we actually really enjoy en enjoy. So yeah um the people are brutally honest. I mean, I I I think that people are direct here more so than you get in the States, depending on where you're from in the States, cuz Yeah. like even some northeastern states can um definitely be more direct than the South.
Oh, sorry. the South is like um you know sometimes a little a little more beaten around the bush like bless her heart kind of thing. Um oh thank you Neil overall and for later vids as well.
Um yeah I know I need to go to the chroma and bird sanctuary. I just I haven't been there yet and I need to go. I just need to go. Um I have been to Melanie's Bird World, which me is definitely a touristy place. I guess some would say Corumban's the same way. But oh my gosh, it's a wonderful It's a wonderful place.
Like if if you like birds and animals, um I've been there I think three times now cuz I love birds.
Um, we didn't make it to the Blue Mountains in Melbourne. Big big bummer.
We're hoping to go back so that we can experience that.

Um, have I found the difference between how religious the two societies are to be quite a shock?
The two societies you talking about Australia versus the states?
I don't think so. Um, oh yeah, what am I talking about? The Blue Mountains are in Yeah. Wait. Oh, yeah. They are. The problem, see, is we did what feels like backto-back trips to both of those places because we went pretty quickly, one after the other. I'm getting them mixed up. Thank you for calling me out. Um, see, I am human, guys. Turns out I do make mistakes sometimes. Just don't tell my husband that. Um, Corpus Christie. Yeah. Yeah. Corpus isn't far from Houston. Um, it's a nice little little spot on the coast.
Oh, she moved there after World War Your aunt moved there after World War II.
Wow. You got to go to You got to go to Texas. Texas is such a fun place to tour. Um, okay guys, let us speak with Hub. He promise not to tell. I'm trying to get him in more videos.
