So, today on Project Shop, we are back on the backyard silver processor.
Uh, we got I got a new burner. I got new beers.
We got some sugar. We're going to do this uh sugar and lie method. I I like how that went. Nick's got what' you say?
130 lbs.
>> Yeah. about 130 lbs of silverware heat cut up. And this looks like a buffet, man.
We got um the two things sucking. We got this thing fired up. I am running a generator this time. We're really far away from the house. We were pulling a lot of power out of this thing last time. We're going to be running two burners. He's going to be doing his stuff. I'm going to be doing my stuff.
We're getting a little uh Oh, we also we got chemical gloves this time. People were in the comments about that. Uh we have a fan blowing hard across here. And uh yeah, we're going to be as safe as we can.
This is backyard silver processing at its finest. I do have a couple.
He actually gave me this one. I'm going to go cut these up with a jaw. We tested a bunch of uh that's not silver, but all this stuff, that's all silver.
So, a silver test kit that we were using. Uh so, I'm going to mill through this. We're going to cut out all the copper and and that stuff there right there is silver. We tested it. So, we'll run that. But, we're going to start off with the nuggets. I got 100 or 1,040 g we're going to run this time.
And um I almost want to put Kenny on uh bashing up some things.
We'll see. We'll see how it goes, man.
Um but this is the stuff the leftover last time.
We're going to process that as well today. So, we got a lot going on here.
We got distilled water, regular water.
Uh I got to go get my respirator. I know it's not the safest, but yeah, this is what we're doing. And if my wife doesn't start using this uh workout station, we're going to take this over and uh make a proper silver refinery. Gold refinery. I was just showing him my gold. He was >> got a bunch.
>> Yeah, he said he said, "I got a bunch of gold, man. I just been throwing it in the bin." So, we'll get we'll get into some gold, too, one day. Um so, we're gonna get set up and get this going. And then I got Kenny over here. I'm going to get him going on something else. And uh we're just going to be pulling a bunch of uh a bunch of scrap today. Scrap silver, scrap copper, and whatever else we can find around here.
Okay, we kind of got rained out for a minute and we got some bad news. So, we were running this stuff and we came a bunch across a bunch of this stuff here.
I believe that's copper and it was coated.
This stuff here though, I don't know what it is.
Some of this stuff is like a ceramic or carbon. It's like it's just deteriorating. But this stuff was all coated.
Like this one here. Look at that.
It's not silver.
That sucks cuz that's a huge pile.
Some of it did have silver on it.
Um but I'd like to I I really need to um figure out where this came from, which ones these were because that was a lot of work to get this stuff, man.
And I was I was figuring we were going to have all this in silver. That was almost maybe a quarter of what I put in there.
Um, now I did start running some of this stuff that was silver coated.
I had cut up some stuff.
Now, we checked. Not all this stuff was silver. Like this stuff was not silver.
These were silver coated. And all this stuff I'm touching, it's been washed.
So, it's been like neutralized.
We're going to get set back up.
We've got um he's running his stuff and I'm running my coated stuff. He's running the rest of his coated stuff.
And then this is all that we got out of um still got a little bit of bubble action going on there. Something's Oh, something's reacting.
could just be water.
So, I'm going to start washing that.
There's actually a lot of silver down in there. And then we're going to continue to run this stuff here. Um, we're basically heating it up and running. What are we running this stuff with? Uh, >> sulfuric acid and a little bit of nitric acid.
>> It's peeling that stuff off pretty fast.
He's running a bunch of the stuff. This is um stuff he's ran already.
Actually does a really good job at pulling that stuff off. So, all right guys, it's been a long day, but this is what we got. This is all the silver from my contacts.
This is all silver from silverware that he processed.
We actually I I I I didn't weigh it or keep it separate. I should have showed, but um Where's the scrap bucket at?

>> Yeah, probably another 500 bucks. And copper and brass.
That's mixed lead stuff. of my stuff.

So, um because we were running two burners, we had a fan going. I had my generator running back there all day.
um on top of having the the the hood running and uh the hot plates.
So then we have this bucket. I started a 55gallon drum and someone said that I can neutralize everything with uh baking soda, which um I'm going to let that stuff settle. Uh, you know, I've been let we we actually had some buckets from last time that I had stored with lids and we actually pulled some copper out of it or some uh silver out of it. Not much, but you know, it was worth letting it settle. Couple ounces probably.
And um so I'll do the same thing. I'll let that settle. I'll dump it into that drum. I'll dump a bunch of uh you know, baking soda in there. And then I'll have to figure out what we're going to do with it at that point. That thing he's dumping in there right now was our baking soda water tub that uh just in case we splash acid on us, we can rinse, you know, neutralize it. But yeah, all in all, it was good. We're actually talking about finding stainless pans for that that we can heat up cuz he was used to using plastic that we couldn't heat up. But we're going to uh we'll get it dialed in, man, for the second run. I mean, that's a that's a lot.
See? Uh, I mean, this is a gallon jug back here.
That's a lot. We got a lot. Hopefully hopefully I'm going to hit my two grand uh mark. And he's probably got about two grand over here as well.
So, it's all in all seems like it was a good day, man.

And this is what he got out of 120 something pounds to be determined what the weight is.
Um, and then I didn't weigh what I did or I had so many grams, but I also had all the other stuff that we added to it.

Some of this stuff um like this. It's just breaking up. Look at that.
I don't know. We'll take a couple little nuggets. See if the guy will shoot it for us. Find out. There was silver on it, you know. So, we did recover silver off these pieces. It's almost probably like the plated stuff you got.

>> Yeah.
>> Compared to the last time it went like butter, but it was all silver. Yeah.
With some copper stuff.
>> Yeah. It made >> Yeah. We thought we thought we ran out of acid or the acid wasn't eating it up.
So, we dumped more nitric in there and it didn't do nothing to it. So, this one isn't as clean, but we're 9963.
>> And that was both of them the same pretty much. Here, I'll actually show you both of them. This one.
>> So, that one's got a little bit of copper.
>> Okay.
It's got a little bit of copper, a little bit.
>> Wow.
>> Oh, and okay, guys. So, I got a very interesting ticket here. Um, the guy accidentally he typed in the wrong I think that's gold because the numbers I did not get $146,000 unfortunately.
I only got $2,200 for that. But he basically said um he paid me 90% of what the spot price was this time even though this stuff was even dirtier than the last stuff I brought in. But he said the stuff we're bringing in is pretty pure compared to a lot of other things that he gets in there. And the crazy thing is he let me in the back in that place there. They have a vault with like safety deposit boxes and whatnot.
Um he showed me their setup. Now for the most part when jewelry comes in and stuff like that, they melt it down into buttons and little bars right in the back there.
They use a um a to it literally looked exactly like the setup we used with a little round bowl looking crucible and a torch, but they had a rose bud tip.
And they did have a electric furnace in there and a really cool thing that they make shot silver shot with and and they had like a a chiller or something. They had some really cool stuff back there.
And I was talking to him about they have a press back there for pressing their mark and stuff, you know. Um, but he was telling me over in their other facility that they have an automated system that uses acid and it dissolves it and it goes through the whole system automatically and comes out as silver shot.
And he says that they run it through twice to get it as pure. So he said if you if I wanted to get the little bit of stuff that was in there out that I could have ran it through another time just dissolve it again and wash everything and do the whole process again and I pretty much much would have had like nine nine maybe even three nines you know or there's another method that we could have done but for what we did yesterday the amount of pounds of material that we ran Um, you know, I think that was probably the fastest method and we were hustling to get that done. Man, that took all day to to pull that off. But, you know, we pulled 2,200. I'm pretty sure he probably got about 1,600 or something maybe out of what he got. I think we figured. Um, but his was a little there. I'm actually curious to see what was in his. they um they weren't they weren't concerned about the little bit of borax or the discoloring or even the other stuff that was in there. What he said is he'll run that stuff through on their second pass.
So when they run all their stuff through on the first pass, the stuff that I gave him was such a high purity that they'll run it through on the on a second pass to kind of just clean it up. And he said they'll dissolve that whole bar in acid, which is crazy. So anyway, if you come this far, thanks for watching. Stay tuned.
