Planning is the primary function of management that involves deciding in advance what to do, how to do it, and who will do it, bridging the gap between current and future organizational states. It has key features including achieving objectives, being pervasive across all levels, continuous nature, futuristic outlook, and requiring mental exercise. The planning process involves setting objectives, developing premises, identifying alternatives, evaluating alternatives, selecting the best option, implementing the plan, and following up with monitoring. Planning provides clear direction, reduces uncertainty, minimizes waste, encourages strategic thinking, and establishes performance standards, though it can create rigidity, be time-consuming, reduce creativity, and offer no guarantee of success.

IPU CET BBA 2026 |Class# 12| Management Aptitude | Planning #ipu #bba #cuetAdded:
Hello everyone, welcome to Elegant Classes.
Today in the Management Aptitude series, we are going to study Planning. After Principles of Management, our next topic is Planning. Planning is like if you are going on a trip with your friends, then you plan where to go, when to go, how much will it cost, what activities will have to be done after reaching there.
What do you have to pay for those activities? Which activity is closed on which day? Which day is he off? Or will you think about which dresses to take? Are you going in winter or summer?
So you do a lot of planning.
Similarly, in any organization, planning is done that if we have to launch a product, then when will it have to be done?
What are the customer requirements? So lots of things are taken care of in venue planning. So let us read it in a little detail.
Some clarity about the topics comes only when we ask questions on them.
So we are not taking questions right now. I am studying all the topics together right now.
Then we will take questions on that together.
You don't need to panic. When we ask questions, all your concepts will become clear. Provided you keep watching all the videos and there is no need to memorize them. When reading conceptually. These are very basic business concepts. You will understand them only if you read them. You don't have to fill any paper in this. The exam is not like the board exam. If you fill the paper then you will get marks. Just understand the concept and I am assuring you that you will get good marks. Okay, right? So here you just keep understanding the theoretical concept. There is no need to cram at all.
So if I talk about planning, I told you about planning through examples. If you are going on a trip, what will you plan? It's like planning is the primary function of management that involves deciding in advance what to do, how to do it, and who is going to do it. It bridges the gap between where an organization is today and where it wants to be in the future. So where do we want to be in the future? Where are we currently?
Planning is done to eliminate this difference. Now ah there are some features of planning. If any organization does planning then what are the features? Features on Achieving Objectives. Planning starts with setting specific goals. It has no meaning unless it contributes to achieving them.
It's like you plan it.
When will you finish your syllabus? In how much time will your syllabus be completed? Which sections will be there? What topics will be covered? So you do plan. But its importance and significance lies only when you contribute to achieve it.
When will the syllabus be completed? Or writing a plan will do nothing.
You have to work hard to achieve those things and you know those things.
Primary Functions It proceeds all other functions like organizing, staffing and directing. That means after this we will study the topics Organizing, Staffing and Directing. It is pervasive. Pervasive means required at all levels. That means it will be required at only one level, at management or lower level. This is not necessary. It is required at all levels. It is required at all levels. Stop management plans for the whole organization while the lower levels plan for the daily operations. It is continuous. Continuous means that you did it for one time being, then forgot about it and did not do it again. It should not happen.
Plans are framed for a specific period. Once that period ends, the plans are formulated based on the new conditions.
Futuristic offshoot called Peeping into the Future. It involves forecasting and preparing for upcoming events.
This is futuristic. Mental Exercise It Requires Higher Thinking Foresight and Sound Judgments Rather Than Mere Guesswork. So these are theoretical concepts. You will understand that if I have to plan for the future then all these parts remain with me. I am saying again that clarity will come only when you ask questions. Now after reading the theoretical concepts, you might be thinking that these types of questions will come. But don't worry we will answer all the questions. You will get clarity.
Next let me talk about the planning process.
Now planning also has a step by step process. The first thing that happens is setting objectives. Establishing clear, measurable goals for the entire organization and individual departments. Everyone should have clear measurable goals. The goal should be measurable.
And for the entire organization and individual departments. Developing premises means that premises should have some assumption main. It should be developed. Making assumptions about the future like economic conditions and government policies. Identifying alternatives means that you will have to find out what alternative methods and ways I will have to achieve that goal.
Identifying Alternatives.
Listing all possible ways to achieve the set objectives. Evaluating Alternatives.
Then you will evaluate which one is my best. Weighing Away: The process of weighing each option against feasibility and profitability. Selecting an Alternative: Choosing the best course of action, ideally the most feasible one with the fewest negative consequences.
Implementing the plan. After that you will have to implement the plan. Putting the plan into action by organizing resources and assigning tasks. Follow up action. After doing this, the last follow-up option will be monitoring the plan's progress and making adjustments if there are deviations from the targets. So you will have to see how the progress of the plan is going and after that what changes will I have to make so that the deviation from my target does not happen, you will have to apply that here.
I compare essence and limitation from different aspects. First, if I talk about operational focus, what is its benefit here? Provides clear direction and purpose for all activities. Brother, what should I do? I should have direction, right? So I get to know this from here. Can lead to rigid making it hard to deviate from the script. Brother, you have prepared a plan.
If we have to make some changes later, it becomes difficult because we feel that brother, we have finalized this. Now we are rigid. We will not be flexible for this. So this could be its drawback. Let me talk about risk management.
Reduces uncertainty by anticipating future changes. When we plan, we anticipate many changes in advance that if this can happen then we will do this.
If this happens then they will do this. If this happens then we will do this. If you also go on a trip, you plan it. If my train reservation is not confirmed then we will come back like this. This cheap new method means you plan a lot of things if one thing doesn't happen. So you anticipate the uncertainty of the future.
Ineffective in dynamic environments where the future is unpredictable. In many cases, your future is unpredictable, so it is difficult to avoid risk in that case. For example, in the war that is going on these days between Iran and the US, there are many sectors which will not be able to plan because there will be a dynamic environment here. So the future is unpredictable.
Efficiency Minimize waste and overlaps in work through coordination. So here your waste is minimum because you have planned that thing and your coordination is so good that two people are not doing the work of one person. There is no work overlap.
Can be time consuming and expensive to develop. Now planning is not so easy.
When planning is done in a large organization, many teams are formed.
Many departments are set up. Many tasks are given.
It is analyzed. Trend analysis is also done to determine what the future will be like and its history.
So after that it can be time consuming and expensive to develop. Now after planning, it is also difficult to develop the planning because it consumes time of many departments. I meet a lot of people.
So ultimately you know when their time is taken then it becomes expensive.
I talk about innovation. Encourages Looking Ahead and Strategic Thinking. It is obvious. This of course reduces creativity as staff simply follow preset steps. So if you tell the employees a preset of steps to do after planning, then they will do the same.
So what will happen with that? There are chances of their creativity getting destroyed.
Next is control.
Establishes standards used to measure actual performances. So here, establish standards using actual performance. So here the actual performance can be controlled. Offers no guarantee of success even with a perfect plan. So this always happens in life.
You make a perfect plan. But when its implementation time comes, you feel that there are a lot of ups and downs here. So here also, after making a perfect plan, you cannot guarantee that it will be a success.
Decision Making: Simplify choices by focusing on specific objectives. So here your decision becomes easy because your objective is clear and after the objective is clear you can simplify it, it may create a false sense of security leading to a complication. Now after the plan is made, we almost become you saturated compliment complicated. Compleat means saturated. So I created a false sense of security that brother, now the plan has been made.
Now we will follow this direction and we will be successful. This does not happen.
And what happens with this? Kind of ah satisfaction starts coming. Saturation starts coming.
Instead of satisfaction, saturation starts coming.
And when saturation comes, things are nโt perfect. We are not ready for challenges. So we have compared these on some parameters.
I understand that without solving questions you will not be able to understand these concepts. But trust me when we solve the questions you will be able to understand all the concepts. And now we have ended this chapter here.
In this we have one or two topics that how many types of plans are there, how many types of planning are there? There is vertical, standing, horizontal. That's all.
We will not do this now. When we solve question answer sessions then we will again explain these topics. Okay, right? So today we have ended the planning here. And whatever questions will come on this, I am sure that you will be able to do it. Ah trust me I'm making a lot of us to you know making those PPTs and working for the content. So that a student from non-commerce background will be able to solve the questions of Management Aptitude. Crush Me It's 12:30 in the night and I'm still making the video so that your topic can be covered as quickly as possible. A lot of queries are coming for GK, Reasoning and Quant. I will do as much as I can.
But currently the biggest requirement is management aptitude. And I am seriously working hard. So that it can be beneficial for you. Taste is your choice.
Please provide your feedback in the comment section. Wish you good luck. Thank you.
