In college basketball transfer portal negotiations, player NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) value is influenced by market demand, with schools becoming more desperate as the draft deadline approaches, potentially driving NIL values higher even if the player's actual performance hasn't changed; this creates a situation where players can leverage their position to command premium NIL offers by waiting until schools have limited options.

Can Kentucky Basketball Win The Milan Momcilovic SWEEPSTAKES...Added:
All right, guys. We're back here on Southeastern 16, presented by FanDuel college basketball live on Thursday.
So, how about You know what? We hadn't talked about our guy, Milan.
Oh.
Yeah. And Allen's talking about, you know, what's he going to do? We've got the bidding war potentially between Kentucky, Louisville, St. John's.
Um Dougie all in on the idea of him heading to Lexington if he gets out of the draft.
What do you think?
Got to [clears throat] make a prediction right now. I'm going to put you on the spot.
Where do you think he winds up?
Did you see the number thrown out there from Isaac Trotter yesterday on what uh >> Milan's NIL is going to be?
I did not.
The quote from Isaac Trotter, "It's hard to leave 6 million on the table, and I think he would probably get right in that ballpark."
The deadline to withdraw from the draft, May 27th. We got 6 days.
And Well, who's got 6 million to spend?
I was just going to say that.
Just going to say that. Do you think Kentucky has 6 million to spend right now?
I mean, if that was going to be the Tyrese Stokes, you know, spot, this big-time wing, 6 million's up there. But I mean, I don't know. Probably around four or five. If they I think they got the chunk.
Like William said, yeah, give him the Stokes money. I mean, probably whatever was allotted for that that star that they're missing right now.
They got I think they have that.
Yeah. I mean, I think if you look at the rest of the roster, that's kind of what we talked about. Like I think it's I don't know how much they're spending on some of these other guys.
I mean, I would I don't I don't anticipate that there's a large group right now on the current roster that's getting a high high number. It's kind of like one is sort of, you know, everybody's you know, few get higher than others, but I mean, the Moreno thing factors in, too, now, right? So, it's like if he's there versus not there, but I I think yeah, Kentucky still has a lot, but that's the thing is like Louisville's not ever going to run out of money, it seems like. Like I mean, look at the guys they've landed.
And we should be saying, "There's no way Louisville still has 6 million left for this guy, right?"
Maybe they do.
I mean Now, you Sean or Sam brings up a good point here.
Is he worth 6 million? Didn't impress me in the Sweet 16 too much.
Like even if he did impress you in the Sweet 16 is any player worth 6 million?
I mean he turns an ankle, is out for a month, you're you're paying 6 million for a guy to play 2 months. You know, like that is a good question.
But at the same time you got to pay up if you want to get these if you want to get the stars. Like that's just the market.
Either overpay or you don't get the star.
Is he worth 6 million on June 1st and maybe he would have been worth 5 million on April the 15th? Because you're a little more desperate now.
>> [laughter] >> You know. Exactly. Another angle. Good point.
>> you're a little more desperate at the end of May and the 1st of June, and so we're like, "You know what? If I'm his agent, I'm saying "We'll take an extra million, all right?" Because >> [laughter] >> we know you got no other choices. You got no other choices. Give me that extra million. That's exactly what I'd be doing. So I mean, there you go.
What's that is?
Doesn't matter is what he's worth when there's no other options left available.
You pay him whatever he wants. So this guy could say he wants 7 million, and I think you'd be entertained the idea.
So, what do we know any numbers out there on like who we think the highest paid player is right now?
Like I'm sure someone has that.
Out there rumored. I don't have like the uh the On3. They do the NIL evaluation thing if you have like the advanced tier of their subscription. I don't have it though, but I would I would have to imagine Yeah. maybe like uh I know what was the report for Badunga and Shelstad package was close to 10 million for that package.
>> million for that? Yeah.
I mean, I know we talked about Tommy H at 10, but we felt like that was a lot of some incentive based stuff too, which I mean, some of the all these guys could have that, but we just don't know what the I don't know. I think it's interesting.
Well, yeah. Are we talking like all together like Right.
>> make from their image and likeness or just what their kind of little NIL contract is or something?
>> Yeah, that's I think the there's probably difference. So. Yeah.
Yeah.
I'll just say this. If you put him on Louisville's roster right now, that starting five of Shelstad, Wooly, him, Folgaris, and Badunga, look the hell out.
>> [laughter] >> I mean, I'm sorry, but like you fans don't want to hear that, but holy cow.
I mean, that'd be quite a quite a group.
But yes, I think Kentucky is going to win.
>> the seven-footer off the bench. Carter Knox off the bench in that scenario?
>> [snorts] >> Yeah. That's an expensive roster.
So, but I mean, what about St. John's? Are we are we underselling the idea that St. John's could be in the mix here?
Uh they I think they also have the money. I mean, if you look at who their their top expenditures would be um Donnie Freeman and Ian retaining Ian Jackson, and then they got Quinn Ellis international.
Those three I would say would be their top. They retained Reuben Prey.
But still Reuben Prey is not um not even not drawing you know Esube Ejafor money.
Like last year, you know, so Donny was probably worth two to three somewhere around there, few million. Ian Jackson somewhere around there probably. And then Quinnellis might be the most expensive player to be honest for them. But yeah, they definitely have And weren't we talking about the Big East with the revenue sharing before we got launched into the transfer portal and we were like the Big East is just going to have that extra basketball cash because of no football. They can pour it all in. And then you look at St. John's roster right now. Compare maybe the total budget from this current roster to last year and you're like, wait.
St. John's probably have a little little load of cash left over here.
Yeah.
Um something UCLA another team that was thrown around recently.
I'd be a I don't know about that.
>> [clears throat] >> But maybe.
So.
The Milan's sweepstakes. Who was it last year where we were late into the cycle and he was going everywhere?
Claude Desmond Claude. Holy smokes, haven't heard that name in a like year. I was going to say Dick Miles, but that was different situation I guess. So. Jumping around.
But it's like every every cycle we get to late May and there's a few guys left and it's just like, okay, the sweepstakes for them. Who want you know, who wants the last few guys? You know, one guy that's really doing himself a big favor by waiting a long time here. Robert Miller.
LSU's Robert Miller. You look at the transfer rankings. He's the number one forward left in all the rankings. And I mean he's probably like I'm not exaggerating. He probably added another million or two onto his if I just from waiting.
Smart. Wait until one of these power forwards stays in the draft and one of these teams is desperate and saying, "I need you, man. Please."
You just make more money?
No.
Yeah.
There you go.
All right.
Here's the the Milan sweepstakes. We'll find out what happens. Milan sweepstakes.
Um Quick quick just all right.
One word answer here or I guess two if it's St. John's.
Prediction.
He goes Where Milan ends up? Yeah.
I'd say Kentucky right now.
I'd say Kentucky. That'd be my pick. But I don't know.
One of these teams got something up their sleeve and there's going to it's going to He's going to be a He's going to be a tiger in Baton Rouge. Let's not kid ourselves.
He's He's going to LSU. One folks.
Pulling out the bag of tricks.
