To improve English speaking skills, learners should balance listening practice with active speaking practice, use shadowing techniques to improve pronunciation and fluency, and create opportunities for regular conversation practice in a supportive environment, as passive listening alone is insufficient for developing speaking abilities.

Younger one studying 10th standard. elder one studying be bio biotechnology she's studying uh my husband also working in a government sector I am also working woman uh yeah when I was 16 I got married I couldn't study I only studied only second PU now uh recently I completed my BA the last two months I written third final year exam BA.
>> Okay.
>> I'm waiting for the result.
>> Yeah, I'm waiting for the results. I'm learning English also. I should improve my communication skills as much as I can. Um that's the reason I started YouTube channel. I want to improve my communication skills. Uh that's all pretty about me. I'm get I'm feel nervous. This is my first conversational video.
>> Yes. Yes. It is inevitable ma'am. If you are doing anything for the very first time, we feel so much nervous and fear, hesitations and all that. But we should do that right to get rid of hesitation and fear also. But I couldn't feel your so much have the hesitation and you're more confident I can say.
>> Oh, is it? Thank you. [laughter] Yes.
>> You're motivating. You're motivating me.
>> Yes. Yes. So, when did you started your YouTube channel? How is it going?
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. Last week started uh for learning purpose this channel. Uh before I started one YouTube channel uh that is garden garden video. I have a terrace garden. I grow many vegetables.
flowers and grafted fruits as well.
>> Uh that time yeah at that time I put some videos shorts video on it. Uh nowadays I have no time. I should uh communicate my English. I should improve myself. That's the reason I stopped uh that channel. It is the I didn't stop it. Stop. Sometimes I will get time. I will upload some videos. I have one cat.
Uh I I upload that cat video also on it.
[laughter] >> Okay, that's so cool. So nice.
>> Yeah.
>> Are you fond of gardening?
>> Yeah, I love gardening. [laughter] >> When I get a free time, I do garden work. I love garden morning to evening.
I will do continuously uh work on my terrace garden. Uh it's give peaceful and enjoyment for me.
>> Yes, I also have seen some of the paris gardening in Chennai. But in our village we do we grow the plants in the ground itself because we have lot of huge uh empty space right. So we will keep small garden in our house itself. But here I have seen some of the terrace gardening they are growing the plants on the talis itself. It is good but is we should take too much right especially in summer season.
>> Every day in summer season every day we do watering otherwise they will dry.
Sometimes uh I I do watering morning and evening also twice a day either it's uh dried.
>> Okay. Okay.
>> Yeah. Actually there is no place to grow plants and all in Bangalore. You know it's very cost field. We can't buy.
[laughter] >> Yes.
>> We've only bought offsite.
uh we built a site uh offsite with in our family in terrace there is empty now that's the reason I started terrace garden >> okay that's cool that's nice >> yeah how do you spend your free time >> my free time I I spend uh I spend my time into listening most of the time I do listening to podcast or sometimes English conversation videos or sometimes it might be any story kids stories. So I spend like that and uh I I'm into reading also. I spend little time into reading books, read books like uh story books but nowadays I'm reading self-help books. So those are non-fiction books and uh other than what I do sometimes I use my phone for some entertainment purpose also but not too much I'm little conscious about that and uh other than yes connect with people and attend the classes on English try to improve my English this is how my uh time is spending nowadays I'm spending my time >> okay [clears throat] I am also So watch watching some English stories, cartoon, English cartoon. I watch Instagram video, uh short videos, animated videos.
Now that uh they they are teaching English.
>> I do watch like that like that.
Sometimes I get bored. I listen songs, Canada songs and all.
>> Okay. Yes. It is human tendency, right?
If you don't enjoy too much then how we can spend too much time in that particular task particular activity if you have interest otherwise we can't stay more than of half an hour or more than one hour also it's a boring task ma'am it is a monotonous things but we should do it to get the frequency or better level right >> yeah every day I go to office I leave at 8:00 in the Morning after I came back home evening 7:00 it's too long it's too long I I'm living outside only after that evening evening 7:00 only only I reached home and Saturday Sunday I stay home this is all my lifestyle >> okay then how did you manage your time because it is too difficult right as a house as a working professional and now you are into learning this language also and uh you should devote some time towards this language and your cultures and your work. So do you have a proper routine or proper time management risk something?
>> Yeah, I do time management otherwise I can't manage anything. Uh I woke up uh 5 5:00 in the morning every day. My younger daughter now studying 10th standard. She go to tions in the morning 5:45.
>> I prepare breakfast to her early morning. Yeah, that's the reason I every day I wake up at 5:00 otherwise I can't manage. After that I will do household household chores. My husband will help me on it.
>> Yeah. I can't totally handle myself. My my elder daughter she's staying in a hostel.
>> She's also studying in Bangalore but uh it's her college it's too far to her uh she goes sometimes metro but she couldn't manage her time that's the reason she is staying hostel near her college.
>> Okay. Okay.
That's a good thing instead of wasting our energy and as well as time and as well as finance also. So for that if you are staying her in her campus it would be good as well as if they are sping college they prefer most of the time they prefers to their uh friends right apart from family also they prefer friends they want to enjoy with their friends friends to go outside to enjoy so that is good she will learn something new uh if you are living apart from our family how we and do our own things that is also a different kind of experience I think. So >> yeah she comes on weekends when she get the free time there is no exams test UT there is nothing she will come otherwise she will stay there only on weekend she comes uh monthly to twice or three she comes here only it is very rain so it is not a big deal >> to come to >> it's a 2 hours journey and by she comes by bus it takes two t two hours either she come comes met on metro it's uh 45 minutes or 1 hour it's like it's take time >> it takes time okay >> that's cool >> yeah your English is very good how did you learn how long have you been learning English how is your journey >> yes it is more it has been more than one year I have been learning this language but uh nowadays I'm focusing too much on English but early stage I used to work in company so I'm also resonant with you but uh I don't have any I didn't have any household chores so I go to work and I used to go to work and I spend at least two hours in a day this is how I started my journey but now I'm more passionate about this language so I'm spending lot of time towards this language to get better at this language and uh yes this is this is like the same story ma'am everyone has the same problem like we don't understand we are came from other medium we struggle to speak we struggle the same thing happens to me also but we should get out of that there is no any other rocket sign we should do the hard work right >> yeah yeah we Right? Without we we open our mouth. We can't speak anything. I spent two years uh learning English. I one year I wasted uh learning grammar. I didn't open my mouth. [laughter] I I was thinking I should learn English first. Uh sorry I should learn English grammar first. After that I will start to speak. I was thinking like that.
After that I I realized oh without open our mouth we can't speak [clears throat] uh I that time I only listen grammar class I watched videos and all movies and all I understand better that time I couldn't speak after that I realized I I should I do uh shadow English also some I watch some videos now that time I repeat myself then only >> yeah we can speak >> only listening uh it's not work >> only reason we can understand better English we can't speak this is the mantra [laughter] English mantra I can say >> yes shadowing is very important but now I'm not doing too much but it is the very pragmatic pragmatic process procedure pragmatic activity I can say we should do that then only we can giving some kind of activity towards your mouth and the way we pronounce everything we will get the same one activity itself right we we are doing the reading also we are doing the listening also while doing shadowing so it is comes under more than two activities speaking reading listening so that is so much important to get our fluency back.
>> Yeah. Uh if we we get partner to speak with someone, we don't need shadow English. Shadow English, I think. So >> if we don't have any uh partners, we can do shadow English either. We can't speak. [laughter] >> Yes. Uh actually if we have part we have environment we don't need to do the practice and all as we are into reading speaking listening but we are lagging environment that is why we are doing as a separate part everything we should do lsr methods and all yes we are lagging environment yes that is why >> environment is very important environment is very important either we can't speak anything we have a mother tongue in surrounding with our surrounding we should speak in at home on so our mother tongue outside also we speak our mother tongue we we did not use English properly then it will not come >> yes most apart from gardening apart from English are you into any other activity you passionate about You really enjoy while doing?
>> No, I I don't have the actually I don't have time to do anything.
>> Time is important. I don't have time to do others work.
I do household work uh and garden work. I spend time with with my family and I spend time with my cat.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah, this is all about >> is it?
>> Yeah. cat you're telling >> he he >> his name >> we are calling we when we call Mchu he saw he saw and listen he can understand everything he only answer [laughter] >> okay okay >> you don't know our language >> that is that is his language right >> yeah He can understand everything. We we watch the we sorry. Yeah. We we can see how he react. He only react me. He can understand everything.
>> Okay. Okay. Okay.
That's cool man. Actually you are a pet lover guy. I also like dogs >> but uh I don't have experience with any cats or dogs. So I don't know how this experience but I'm really afraid of the cat's nail and all sometimes if you are carrying it will do this activity so it will harm you right >> so it it harms us >> it harms us so I'm really scared scared of that >> yeah our also scratch our hands skin case many times he does but >> is it not any harmful is it not >> yeah little bit little bit little bit is scratch like this [laughter] >> okay okay >> yeah yeah very much [laughter] >> okay >> we have a dog yeah we have a dog uh they are there they street dogs we put uh food also we love street dog also I love we our family everyone loves street dog, cats and dogs.
Pet lovers I can say.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Okay. What about birds?
>> Yeah. Birds. Birds. We uh we are living in a border area like it's look like village. There are so many birds.
>> Yeah. There here. There are so many birds are come. We put rice. They come and go.
>> Yeah, >> we love.
>> Yes, ma'am. I'm also I'm also living some kind of uh village side or is it a city only? But I have seen some of the birds in the morning time. It goes in the state line, some kind of crack line on the sky. So, it is really amazing to see in the morning time.
This look like a drawing like a shape.
>> Yeah.
>> Yes. So nowadays how many practice are you doing like listening only speaking?
Is there any particular practice are you doing without feeling you are doing consistently? Is there anything?
>> Yeah. when so every day I go to walk I go for a walk 25 minutes that time I listen some podcast >> after that while uh I go to office by bus it's took time 1 hour you know Bangalore traffic it's too much in a peak hours morning 8 to 9 I travel uh in bus in bus that time I listen uh English podcast and stories and all every day I listen too much of English but I practice little bit only [laughter] >> yes >> because there is no time in in our office also we speak in English little bit some someone speak in English that time I replied >> I get nervous before I was very nervous nowadays I can't I can manage I don't get nervous uh sometimes Yeah, I was uh speaking with someone that time I forget grammar and all. I made a mistake after but in her office there is no one judge uh right or wrong they can understand uh what she what I'm saying they can understand but there there is no one judge judge me [laughter] [gasps] that's the reason I I was I'm free in our office to speak with someone there is no one speak in our mother tongue uh they are from other state uh they don't know Canada we In speak in our speak in our office people someone speak Canada my mother tongue also Canada sometimes I speak Canada also someone speak Hindi that time I replied in Hindi also who speak in English I will reply English also >> speak also that time I replied Telo I know little bit Tel I can understand Tel Tel uh I know Telugu but I couldn't speak properly. I know little bit Telugu I will manage Telugu and Hindi also I can understand full Hindi but I can't reply.
I don't know that much of Hindi. I will manage. [clears throat] >> Okay ma'am that's cool. I think you are living in Bangalore that's why you know at least more than three language I think so to balance at least. Yes, that's nice. Really nice and uh actually your uh office is good, right? Good environment for you because they are not judging and they are not criticizing you even if you're trying to speak in English. Yes. Even though if you're making mistakes also that's good.
>> Yeah. Every understand me. [gasps] No one judgmental person in our office.
They are good persons. Actually [clears throat] you're lagging lagging in speaking practice right >> because you're consuming two hours of uh listening that is we should choose two parts like listening speaking that is absolutely fine but if you're listening for 1 hour we should speak at least 1 hour if you're listening for 2 hours we should speak at least 1 hour if you're not balancing that activity so it didn't give the result as much as we Yes.
>> Yeah. I took subscription in uh and ace fluency app.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. I couldn't consistently speak uh with someone. Whenever I get time I connect with people that time I speak either uh if I have a lot of work in our office in at our home that time I was uh tired now that time I don't call anyone I don't speak with anyone >> okay >> when I get a free I was in a good mood uh my mind will relax that time I should speak with someone in an fluency app nowadays I took subscription that's a good platform uh to practice English I can see >> yes I used ma'am I used it for one year that appear >> yes I used I took membership for one year subscription for one year at the time when I was started to learn this language I started on that application only so I can't with co-arners and try to speak after four or five months later we have seen we have some kind of options right advanced level Q. So there are lot of boys they will come and they talk about that uh daily routines uh talk about the topics and so first I choose chose only female queue after I jump into advanced queue. So here I most of the time connect with only boys. So we are also >> there is no girls women's there is no no one only I connected by only yeah >> but we have separate option also if you want to choose only female you can choose female option and you can try with female also >> if you want that one of the good >> yeah we can double money on it. If we want to speak with women, we can put four 500 or something I think.
>> Okay. But for me it not like that. I took for one year. I I can choose a female also if I whatever it is. It is my my own thing. Yes. My interest.
>> Yes.
>> How is it? Yeah. I took subscription for only one month maybe that options like that only I think so.
>> Okay. Okay. Okay.
>> Okay. I had a breakfast.
>> Yes, I have my I had my breakfast. Uh that is Italy. That was Italy with >> Yes.
>> You're from you said I I Yeah, it's very famous idli dosa andal.
>> How about you?
>> Yeah, I had breakfast pulog.
[laughter] >> Okay.
>> South Indian dish also we we eat a lot.
Yes.
>> Yeah. In our we prepared ragi ball also.
uh in your side uh have you ever you didn't eat raggi?
>> No, no, no. I don't know what is that.
Maybe it's it made it makes by ragi flour.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Raggi flour.
>> Okay. Is it sweet or spices?
No, we can prepare ragi ball only water with only with water and ragi flour. It's shaped like a ball ball shape. After that we can uh eat chicken sambar sambar only. We can't eat either. We can't eat without sambar. We can't eat.
We can't take it as a separate like this only rai. We can't eat it. It is not tasty. Right. We should have a shis proper shispy sambar.
>> Yeah. We don't put salt as well. Only water.
>> No, >> only we can prepare both two item only.
[laughter] After after that you can eat chicken sambar uh like vegetable sambar masup we don't know English how to how to say masup masup means leaf we can add leaf and we can make it I think it is oh my god I also forot that uh >> spinach spinach uh leaf now.
>> Spinach. Yes. Spinach. One kind of spinach name. I think so.
>> Yes.
>> Yeah. Right.
>> Made Yeah. We made that leaf also. The we can put ragi ball on it. So we can
