[00:00:07]Today we're going to work on that Jet Star 3 Super. Try to get a bunch of that done. Uh so we can put this tractor tractor back together. But first, I want to back to this A4T project.

[00:00:22]I'm in a I'm a little bit of a dilemma now. And why am I in a dilemma?

[00:00:29]So, my friend Jeff Lomman from uh Western Illinois pointed out that this serial number here uh this is a 256th tractor uh A4T or 2655. They can they they bunched them together. Um so this is number like I said number 256 out of 257.

[00:00:56]So, this is the second to last LP either Minneapolis Moline or 2655 put together or ever made. So, you know, and according to the build sheet, the build list that he sent me as well, um, serial number 291 from the factory is supposed to be, which it is. So, these these two came from the factory together in 1972.

[00:01:34]Um, I can't remember the date. Um but anyways, so they've always been together and you know the people say uh the first one and last one that's where the money is when it comes to antique tractors. So well this is the second to last one. So this brings up a dilemma for me I guess.

[00:01:58]Um what should I do? Should I proceed as I was going to get this motor running, you know, and I was going to use that transmission that's in there because it has a Minneapolis moling tag on it and paint it red and white like it's Yeah. Oh, yeah. You notice my tire went flat here a week or so ago. I don't understand why it never moved. It It was up all winter, but whatever. I asked with the kids if they were out, you know, playing around and uh poked a hole in it with something, but of course, of course, they didn't know anything about it. But anyways, we're getting off topic. So, you know, and some people suggested painting that tractor yellow, which that would be cool as well.

[00:02:46]So, should I do that? you know, should I find find somebody an Oliver collector that wants, you know, to put this stuff into a to a, you know, 2655 or or something like that or, you know, I'm kind of leaning towards but just thinking cuz there's nothing's going to happen right right away. So, I've got lots of time to ponder on that.

[00:03:15]Since I have the Oliver sheet metal and all that stuff and it says Oliver on the gas, you know, the fuel tank there.

[00:03:23]Should that tractor be painted as an Oliver?

[00:03:27]Take that transmission out of there.

[00:03:29]Verify this is a good transmission and just put this motor and transmission into that tractor and paint it green and white. the Oliver green and white, you know, and fix it up because there it'd be exactly the same thing. Um, you know, that's the correct frame for that even if it was an Oliver. So, if you know what I'm saying cuz they're an A4T600 and an Oliver 2655 is exactly the same except for the paint and the spears on the side of the hood. You know, the Olivers had the had the spear on it. Um, the Minias Bowling was the same same hood minus the spears. I mean, even the hole uh holes were right in the side of the uh the sheet metal, you know, where where you were to attach the spears. So, I guess I'm asking for your opinion. Um, like I said, this is not something I had to decide today. Um, but uh yeah, decisions, decisions. There's there's always something. It's just, you know, nothing's nothing's easy or, you know, like, oh yeah, just plug and play. So, yeah. So, I need to decide that cuz this is the, you know, the correct motor 504 B model um to go in that tractor. So, but then you know, you know, then if I had this tractor, you know, all done up as an Oliver and say it, you know, cuz the motor and transmission definitely is the second to last one ever built, but would there be an asterisk next to say it went to an auction sale and I made the, you know, somebody put in the description second to last one built. Would there be an asterisk on there? Probably. You know what I'm saying? as in yes and no. The motor and transmission are, you know, because I believe this one was a 71, late 71, which would be the same styling, the flat nose. Um, but anyways, and this the frame for this tractor, as far as I know, is not to be had anymore.

[00:05:42]And originally this tractor and I haven't looked up the build sheet or anything, but looking at the hydraulic pump, this tractor that uh it when it was new, had at least three-point hitch.

[00:05:56]Um I don't know about the PTO cuz nothing here tells me that other than if I got the build sheet, but um which I'm not really interested in doing that right now. So, but you see my dilemma?

[00:06:09]Uh, what is the right thing to do? I know it's my tractor, so whatever I do with it is fine, right?

[00:06:18]I just I don't know.

[00:06:22]The I don't want to say the purest, but the I I just don't want to misrepresent something. I know that I was going to take an Oliver motor, or I shouldn't say an Oliver, a green motor, and put it in a red tractor.

[00:06:39]which fits and everything and uh I was okay with that. Um but then you know these two have been together for quite some time and being a second to last just you know I need to you know think on that pray on it what's the right thing to do you know or you know you know should I should I sell this and just find another motor but I kind of need some of the transmission parts I think off the front of that transmission to go with that one or just find a whole another I you know I read one so I don't know you guys let me let me know leave a comment and uh I will read your comments and consider every one of them. Um, but in the end it is my decision.

[00:07:28]And like I said, if I could have the original frame and cab and all that stuff, you know, my heart says that I I wish we could put that all back together, but that's not an option as far as I know.

[00:07:43]Um, but uh I don't know. We'll see. But all right, let's get working on this beautiful Minneapolis molen.

[00:07:52]Okay. Well, the new seal is in. Um, this little thrust washer needs to go in as well.

[00:08:04]So, we'll put that in there. Like so.

[00:08:10]Then we have a new bearing to go in here.

[00:08:20]And it has all the rollers in it.

[00:08:24]All right. So, we'll put the shims back on that.

[00:08:29]Then we can set this to the side for a minute.

[00:09:28]So, this is the Well, it's not the newest one that came, but um All right. What do they call this bearing? Uh, let's see. Number 44. I think it's a cam cage.

[00:10:38]There's a snap ring in the bottom. So, we'll just take it all the way down to there.

[00:10:50]That sounded pretty uh Okay, down to the snap ring. If you can see that in there or not, but it's down to the snap ring.

[00:11:14]Okay. Trying to remember which way this goes, but it tells me in the book, if I remember right.

[00:11:22]So, let's test it to make sure we're putting it in correctly. Might be easier to find it on my phone. Um, but I will read it.

[00:12:11]It says, "Okay, so we got to put the sprag in here." And I think I can do this with just one of these bearings in.

[00:12:17]Stick the sprag in there or the the um everything in there and uh be fine.

[00:12:23]Place the cam cage down with a flat surface, the longer side up. Yep. Just like that. Insert it in the cage.

[00:12:33]All right. So, let's put let's put the frag in.

[00:12:43]I believe I remember how to which way it's supposed to go, but uh that's why I've got the book out just so I can verify it.

[00:13:03]I believe it goes this way.

[00:13:08]All right. We just can't just hammer it in there. We got to make sure all the bearings are inside the uh the cage cuz All right, this one slides down a lot easier. Okay, I'm going to read it one more time before I do this.

[00:13:28]So, okay. And I I know this is the old one and it has quite a groove on here, but okay.

[00:13:39]And it also says insert the carrier hub into the cam cage and rotating clockwise at the same time.

[00:13:48]When the units are assembled, the carrier and hub should turn clockwise in a cam cage and the independent of the cam cage. When turned counterclockwise, the entire unit, the carrier, the hub, and cam cage should turn as an assembly.

[00:14:08]All right. So, let's stick it in here.

[00:14:15]Okay. All right. So now that turns like it's supposed to.

[00:14:21]Okay, that's fine. So now if I turn it counterclockwise, it should turn that too as well.

[00:14:31]And bingo. Let me try to hold it and turn it. No, not happening.

[00:14:37]But I can go this way just like it's supposed to. Okay. So, what's incorrect in like it's supposed to be?

[00:14:46]Okay, I I'll share this picture with you guys as well. But that's how you check it. I didn't stick it all the way in because it's got this is the this is the old uh hub here. This has such a wear right there. So, basically, it was it was biting, you know, down here. But that's the correct way. So, all right. I'm just going to stick these old bearings on here for I don't know if the owner of the tractor is going to want these back or not, but if if he sees them right here, he knows that they're not in the tractor.

[00:15:32]So, I can remember the last tractor that I put a uh ample torque in here like that. I had to tear that apart again. And uh that's how come I knew uh which way it was this way or this way. So, all right.

[00:15:48]I think I'm before we put this back in the tractor though, I am going to put some more um oil in there just to help lubricate everybody if you know what I mean. So, I wouldn't call that a press fit by no means, but uh just looking her over here. Make sure we're going down on there.

[00:16:23]And there should be another groove that this goes in. And I think we're just about there.

[00:16:32]Go a little bit more, I think.

[00:16:34]Okay. Feels pretty solid.

[00:16:42]All right. Then the snap ring goes in.

[00:16:50]Want to make sure that we can grip onto it. There's a places for that.

[00:17:10]I don't know what kind of spring they call this, but it's a spring or you know, it's a snap.

[00:17:43]All right. So now this would be the low side. That is new. Brand spanking new.

[00:18:07]Very important that you put this side up cuz it kind of um as the oil gets thrown around in here, it'll lay down in this valley here and that's what help helps lubricate everybody if you know what I mean. So all right.

[00:18:47]All right. So, I'll make sure that washer is in there or the the uh uh thrust washer.

[00:19:14]That's what I wanted to say. And it's in there. Okay, that's this this that is kind of a tight fit in there. I don't have it in all the way yet, but just about.

[00:19:29]Okay, this is not going to be all that easy with uh you guys in the way, but so this is kind of a tight fit here.

[00:19:41]This would be a prime example for a uh um a stud put in there.

[00:19:55]Okay, there we go. Okay, this top one gets this splash guard on there and I believe it goes that way. So, as it turns, it catches the oil and captures it in there. So, we're going to I'm going to put some of the other ones on.

[00:21:52]Now, let's just double check. Make sure they're tight. Yeah.

[00:22:01]It's very It's a very tight tolerance.

[00:22:04]Um just work it back and forth. It will go.

[00:22:09]So, this is one of them things. Just be patient.

[00:22:17]So, I do have the splash guard in there.

[00:22:21]I don't think camera's picking up the one on top.

[00:22:25]So, okay, we're going to call that good. Let me just double check this one. All right, cool beans.

[00:22:38]All right, so now the low side is replaced. Not just rebuilt, it's it's replaced in there.

[00:22:49]Okay, now now for the high side. So that can be a little bit more involved. I'm thinking about changing this seal first. Um, which is right here. Um, this is for the uh the the torque lever.

[00:23:11]Do I really need to change it? Yeah, I don't know. Cuz really the oil level really isn't up there. But it does keep dirt and dust or you know supposed to keep dirt and dust out. So let's uh I'll bring you over here. Maybe you can see it's that one right there. Um and that's where the the lever goes in. I do have a new one. So it takes me you know take me 30 seconds to change that and I do have it. So I think we will do we will do that.

[00:23:42]So, this this would be called the old the torque lever seal, maybe.

[00:23:50]Oh, I hear gooers. So, all right. Let me just double check, make sure I have the seal, which I'm sure I do. Then, uh, we'll replace it. Okay. Yeah, I did get it. I thought I did. Oh, 1029836 is the uh part number. So that would be a Minneapolis Emiline part number. So all right, come on, baby. There it is.

[00:28:18]And there is a uh let me see if I can find it here. I don't know if I'm able to show you, but yeah, there's a groove in the cage that you can get back to everything and you can only do get one bolt started at a time.

[00:28:37]So, if I can't get this back in here, I'll have to take it all back out cuz right now I'm fighting the sprag.

And see how this There's a groove right here. That's where you stick your wrench in down through there and then find the hole that way. All right, let's see what I'm gonna do.

[00:29:39]He kind of fought me and I end up having to stick a parry bar just in here just to hold it then then tap on it. I had very little resistance getting into the first bearing and into the sprag bearing. It was the final bearing in there. I just had, you know, I need a little bit of vibration. Um, but she's all in there. Thank you, Lord.

[00:30:05]Oh, it's just, you know, I've been working on it for a couple hours. Um, actually, this is the second day. I kind of gave up on it the other day or last night. Nope. Need a break. So, I took a little break. And this is where we're at. So, I got it. All right. So, the high side is in, but now the tricky part, keeping it in. And what I mean by that is when we put in the clutch or the ample torque lever, you don't want everything to fall back out. Um, this is where if you have help, that would be handy just to hold the lever. The last ample torque thing I did was on that 900 gas and I think Lydia come out and just all she had to do is hold the handle. So, that's probably what I'm going to need again. But, uh, um, let's, uh, let's get ready. we can uh we can put the uh the collar back on and then uh we should be able to get ready to put the the handle on. But at least now I should be able to stick something in here just to keep that um where it needs to be. Um so what I end up doing is I put the sprag in all by itself and then put the whole high side in is what I end up doing. Um, that's But I'm going to tell you right now, opening this up really helps. But I believe on the big ones, if you take this plate off, all you see is that big drum. Um, there you can't see as much as you can on these. If, if I remember right, you know, working on that one, um, I did take that top off one time. Thought I could get in here to do some things. No. Nope. So, yeah, this one here definitely is easy. I don't know when they changed the design.

And actually tonight is the first night I didn't have a baseball or a softball game or a track meet uh or a band concert or something else going on with these do with these wonderful children that I have. So I uh family comes first. Um apologize that I haven't been getting videos out as much as I used to, but I will be that'll be picking up soon, you know, as soon as everything is done. Um, but for sure.

[00:45:30]But anyways, back to working on this Jet Star 3 Super. I got it all ba back together to where I was when I had to stop.

[00:45:39]Uh, I didn't realize it. And when I had it all back together and I put the cover back on, the torque here, um, I used my my little my little impact wherever it's at. And anyway, somehow the needle bearing and there's a little spacer in there. Must have fell out and got wedged in there. Not like it's supposed to be. And I broke something. What did I break?

[00:46:09]I broke that off. That's supposed to be a round circle thingy there. And um on the on in here is where the yolk rides. Anyways, so I had to order another one. Uh, luckily my buddy Mike Hollers there from uh, Minnesota, he actually sent me this whole unit. So, and I only needed this piece, so I had to tear it apart. And just so you know, I'm using all the good ones is in there.

[00:46:36]Basically, all I needed was this shaft.

[00:46:38]Actually, all I need was that, but I just used this shaft that was in there.

[00:46:44]Anyways, uh Ample Torque is in um to adjust it. Uh see it does have good snap.

[00:46:59]Actually, I probably would like a little bit more. And this is going to be a little bit maybe easier. I'll show you how to show you how to adjust it. Um you got to put it in low for one thing.

[00:47:19]Anyways, uh, that noise you hear in the background, Jacob is working on his boat. He's going to put new finish. But anyway, this is spring-loaded little pin here that locks that.

My senior year in high school, me, my brother, and uh two of my classmates broke the 4x100 uh meter relay school um uh record, school record. We broke it twice that year. Uh actually broke it twice that year and then we broke it before uh like a year a couple years before that. But anyways, I digress.

[00:48:59]So 20, like I said, 29 years ago. Well, last Friday night, him and his comrades, they beat our record. Um, they beat it by three 100s of a second, which one or or 100, you know, seconds is still win. So anyways, it's totally legit. I was there. Proud of these guys.

[00:49:24]Um, they had perfect handoffs. You know, you can have speedsters, you know, four really fast guys, but if your hand off handoffs aren't aren't good, you're not going to break any records or you're not going to win the big meets. But anyways, these guys had three awesome handoffs and they they deserve to break the record. So, um anyways, I just thought I'd share that with you. But, uh so I am going to get this v uh video, this clip here uploaded for you as soon as I can um with the previous one from a couple weeks ago. I just want to show you how to, you know, rebuild ample torque, get it back together, and then uh uh I'm going to continue to work on this tractor. I need to get this one done cuz I have so much going on. Um that Yeah. Anyways, this one needs to get done, get out of here, and go to its no new home. So, or not its new home, it's original home.
