[00:00:00]Uh, so you got rubbed the wrong way by an AD? Well, I I saw this tweet. I didn't mean it like that, but I like the tweet. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it does.

[00:00:08]And and and it's a tweet from the athletic director at the University of Kansas. And and they show a a a picture.

[00:00:14]They're building the other side of the stadium right now. Right? Yeah, the other side.

[00:00:19]>> Allegedly, yes. Yeah, the other side of the stadium is getting built in Lawrence. And and this is what the tweet says. And you guys tell me if I'm reading too much into this because you know where I am with college athletics right now. I want to see all of these universities fail miserably because they've been screwing the athletes for 55-60 years, right? So, here's the tweet. It says a construction photo, a perfect depiction of where our department and industry stand. Will we do it right? Maximize the opportunity that's ahead to be our best version?

[00:00:49]Need our supporters to continue stepping up? Need my team and university community to strive for more? Let's be all in. That sounded to me like almost a cry for help, but also like one of those college athletics man sucks right now.

[00:01:08]And if you don't step up, it ain't my fault, it's your fault. Like I I how I read that tweet was like, we got some issues going on in Lawrence and and the athletic director's out here going like ONE LAST WEEK, CAN SOMEBODY GIVE US SOME MONEY? WE CAN'T SUSTAIN THIS. How is this going to be sustainable guys in college athletics moving forward? We're out here basically on X now begging our donors to give us money. How can this be sustainable?

[00:01:33]I just don't understand throughout college athletics how something like this that we're living in right now is going to be sustainable even for these power four schools at this point in time.

But like I just I the whole I'm going back on your stadium conversation that I went that way. Like, that whole thing's been kind of confusing to me.

[00:02:21]>> Why start when you don't know if you can finish and like you do the east side but not the west side and then you're like, "Well, we'll get there." It's like, why would you do Like, I think a lot of it had to do with like making sure you have a place to play, you know, you don't want to play in Arrowhead and all that kind of stuff. Maybe. But also, no, it was a fundraising thing because >> I'm going to build my dream house but I'm not going to have the backside of it done.

[00:02:44]>> But this stadium stuff, Dusty, has been talked about for generations in Lawrence. They had like some Touchdown Club they tried to raise money. They've been trying to rebuild the stadium since I was a student at KU in 1995. So, this has been going on 30-plus years.

[00:02:57]>> Oh, jeez. But this this seemed like a a a a kind of almost a negative tone cry for help like, "We can't finish our stadium unless you step up and do it."

[00:03:06]>> And and to me it's like, well, didn't you get 300 million dollars a year ago?

[00:03:11]Yeah, that's what somebody said in the text line. I I forgot about that.

[00:03:14]Like, that Isn't that true? Okay, that's true? Yeah, yeah, David Booth. Yeah, they're in the text line. Yeah, David Booth gave 300 million dollars a year ago.

[00:03:20]Now, I know we're talking 100 millions.

[00:03:22]This is we're talking chump change for a lot of these programs but come on. But that went to Darren Peterson and Tyron Stokes. But but but but but but but there it is though. I mean, those are the things now. You need to build a stadium. You also need to pay players to to come to your university. And so like it's it's really it's a crazy balancing act and I'm sure that everybody who's who's been in college athletics that has since retired and they're running like rats off a sinking ship, they're probably very happy they're not having to deal with this because the again, the way that I read that tweet it like, that's a desperate tweet right there.

[00:03:52]And if KU is in desperate times, which they are, 15 million in the red, how many other universities are? And how long are we going to see what we're seeing in college athletics continue?

[00:04:03]And how long can we sustain what we're watching in college athletics?

[00:04:07]>> at Yukon that said you need at least 12 to 15 million to be competitive in college basketball?

[00:04:11]>> it was him. Yeah. And I think that was the number, at least the window is like 13 to 15, I think is what he said to be competitive.

[00:04:17]>> Yeah, competitive, to give yourself a chance. That's basketball.

[00:04:21]>> Right. And again, God knows what football is at this point.

[00:04:22]>> and you look at KU's basketball situation, they've got a label they can't sell anything else. I mean, they there's not a spot on the floor that they can maximize anymore. They are tapped when it comes to maximizing that basketball program. But yeah, with the with the donors and people funneling these things, like now we're looking at a place at at at KU that may be not be able to complete the stadium, I don't know. Like it's just a weird spot for college athletics right now, and it's a hard industry because you're basically operating like a non-profit. You're asking people to donate money, and if they decide they're not going to donate, if the economy turns, that affects everything that you're doing as well.

[00:05:01]And now you're so out over your skis in college athletics with the amount of money I mean, I again, I just don't know how sustainable this is. Um yesterday was Josh Allen's birthday, right? 30 years old.
