This server-side implementation elegantly solves a long-standing UX hurdle by providing real-time visual feedback without requiring client-side modifications. It is a masterclass in leveraging modern display entities to bridge the gap between technical utility and intuitive design.

Add Visual Selection Rendering to WorldEdit in Minecraft (100% Server-Side)Added:
One of the most popular Minecraft plugins and mods out there is, of course, World Edit. I think nowadays there's close to no one who has never heard about it, and it makes a lot of sense. It is really cool. Just being able to select two points in your world, and then you can place, remove, and replace blocks just the way you like.
Incredible stuff. But you know what would make world edit even better? A visual indication of the area you just selected. Now, this is something I always thought was only possible on the client side. You know, installing a mod that would add visual selection rendering to world edits, but I recently came across an incredibly cool Minecraft plug-in, which does exactly that, and it fully works on the server side, which means that any player that joins your server will see this, too. It is really cool. But before we're going to take a look at that, I do want to ask you to double check if you're actually sub to the channel. The vast majority of my daily viewers are still not. You may think you are, but you may not actually be in reality. So, if you could just double check, I would appreciate that so extremely much. So, the plug-in in question is named world edit display, and it is a server site plug-in for Minecraft that adds visual selection rendering for world edit. In other words, it will show you whatever you have selected, no matter which selection type you're using. And as it runs on the server side only, your players don't have to install anything. As soon as they join your server, they will be able to use world edit because that also is a serverside plugin. And when you add this plug-in on top of it, they will also see the selection rendering. So to get this working, you simply want to make sure to download this plugin. A link can of course be found in the description down below. On top of that, you also want to download packet events. On the right side, you simply want to look for releases. and here download the latest version. And then of course you need World Edit 2. No surprises there. You probably already have it installed. Then simply drag all three into the plugins folder of your Minecraft server and give it a quick little restart. After that, join your server and you're ready to go.
So what we can do now in game is simply type /w, which gives us the world edit selection tool. And now when I go ahead and select a block, for example, this one over here, you can see that it visually shows me whatever I have selected. And when I set a second position, for example, over here, you can see that that entire area now shows.
Now, that is really, really cool. Now, for those wondering, the way this works is through display entities. You know, the very cool display entities that Mojing added a while back. I've made a few videos here on the channel showing off a few cool things you can do with them. Well, this plug-in also uses display entities, but for something which is genuinely useful. So, let's go and select a little bit of a bigger area. I'm going to set one over here.
There we go. And then I'm going to set another one here. And there it is. You can now see exactly what I have selected. So, when I do, for example, set stone, then this entire area will be filled with stone. Just like that. There it is. that is so immensely clean. But this is not all it can do. In case you didn't know, World Edit has a bunch of different selection types and you can easily switch between them and this plug-in will support them all. So when we do double slash cell, we can see all of the different types that World Edit supports. Let's for example choose poly.
Then when we now press enter, you can see that um it changes up right away.
But let's make a new selection to better show you what it's all about. So we can select this block over here. This has started a new polygon and now we can select this corner with the right mouse button and then this corner and after that this corner and you can see what a complex structure it's becoming. And with something like a polygon it can be very hard to visualize what you're actually selecting. But with this plug-in that is no longer a problem. No matter how complex the structure becomes, you can see every single point which you've set. That is just great.
Now let me also show you the ellipse.
You can immediately see how it changes.
Very cool stuff. Let's make a new selection down here. I'm first going to left click on this block and then I'm going to right click on this one. And uh would you look at that? That is a strange structure. Okay, let's make it less flat. I'm going to right click this corner now. There we go. That looks great. It shows exactly which area we've selected. And when I now type set stone, it will just fill up that entire area with stone. There we go. We now just have this random stone shape here. Great stuff. It also supports a cylinder. So double slash and then sell and then sill. And I do think you get the point by now. It visually shows exactly what you have selected. Now if you do find the colors annoying for example this red color or you think that these selection boxes should have a different color that is something which you can change. So by typing we display and after that we choose the cylinder. Then we can here change certain colors. So there's the center color, the center line color, the center line thickness, the center thickness, and a bunch more. And you can change these all. So for example, the fill color. Let's change it to uh another one. This one, for example. We press enter, and you could see that the fill color has now changed. So the color that it shows here on the inside. Let's try another more obvious one. This time, I'm going to change the center color.
There we go. You can see that this box, which is the center of the cylinder, has now changed. its color to gold. Looking pretty clean. I just changed the circle color and you can see that now this outline is a different color. So depending on who you are and what you like, you can just change the colors up.
It can be extremely useful and these are personal settings because again this is a Minecraft plugin. You don't have to install anything on the client side. It fully runs on the server and it shows you the selection using display entities. These settings are personal, so everyone can tweak the settings to their own liking. Now, this plug-in also supports permissions. So, if you only want certain groups to be able to use these visualization features, then that is something which you can totally set up. I simply thought this was a very cool plug-in to show off. If you want to try it out, a link can of course be found in the description down below. And with that being said, that's going to be it for today. Do make sure to sub to the channel, join my Discord. Thank you so much, channel members. And then I will see you in the next one. Bye-bye. See you later. Bye-bye.
