Effective international trade requires not just diplomatic agreements but also geographic proximity and compatible business environments; Canada's trade relationship with the United States remains strategically essential despite efforts to diversify trade partnerships with other countries, as geographic distance and incompatible business practices in other nations create significant barriers to economic expansion.

US trade relations: Bill Carroll on Carney's NYC tripAdded:
Prime Minister Mark Cardi was in New York City yesterday. He met with business leaders pitching investment in Canada as the relationship between the two nations remains rocky. Let's check in with Bill Carroll from the Morning Russian News Talk 580 CF to get his thoughts. And happy Friday to you, Bill. Where Eagles Dare, 1960s Clint Eastwood World War II movie. My uncle took me when I was a little boy, and I can watch that movie a hundred times and never gets tired. The special effects may not be quite as good as I thought they were at the time. No, that's my choice. But at the time, Bill, were they not amazing? [laughter] Amazing. Mind-blowing. It's like watching the first Star Wars movies. Now, you go, "Really? People lined up to see [laughter] that?" I know.
So good. Hey, I'm happy to see the prime minister in the United States talking to businesses and and others. He's actually talking mostly indirectly to Donald Trump, I think. But I wanted to mention this because I'm not going to tell you I have some big secret source.
But when you do this job in the nation's capital, you hear from people. Some of them say they work in government. They're involved in negotiating these deals. And you never know if it's true. But when you get enough of these kinds of calls and you hear from people who know people and I get texts and emails from business people and there's a trend that I've been hearing recently and the trend is frustration about Mark Carney. I think a lot of what he's doing is putting on a show for for Donald Trump. But when he makes these announcements about trade deals or memorandums of understanding for future trade deals, a lot of people are saying, "What are we doing here? This is not what we need. We need to fix the problem with the US." It's all very well and good to do a trade deal with a foreign country, but in the end, our businesses, Canadian businesses, have to want to do business in those countries, and many of them are just too far away geographically for it to make financial sense. Others are in countries where you don't feel your employees are going to be safe. Uh you feel like you have to bribe local officials in order to succeed there. And we know what happens if you break Canadian law.
We've seen it before with big infrastructure companies that get in trouble with Canadian law, but there's no other way to do business in some of these parts of the world. So, it's all very well and good to have this long increasing list of countries that we could trade with, but we don't want to trade with. We need the partnership with the US to work. Doesn't mean we shouldn't expand trade in areas where it makes sense. But we're never going to replace that relationship. So, it's very important that the prime minister gets his message across. And I think a lot of the people who've been reaching out to me are going to be very happy to see that he's there trying to make something work with the Americans. Yeah. And Bill, Statistics Canada is going to release how the Iran war and the US terrorist has affected our our economy here in Canada coming up maybe a little bit later this morning or this afternoon. So we'll see the impact of that. Regardless, have a great show, my friend, and a great weekend. Yeah, just have to drive to the gas station and we'll all see it exactly for what it is. Have a great weekend, guys. You as well, Bill. And remember you can listen to the morning rusher Bill Carolyn new stock 580 CFRA weekdays from 6 till 10 in the
