[00:02:28]We Hadzabe have been used to reading animal tracks since childhood, [music] so just by looking at the depth of footprints or fresh marks on the ground, we can estimate how recently a crocodile passed through the area.

[00:03:24]One thing that makes crocodiles difficult to predict is that they move very slowly and quietly near the water, yet they can react extremely fast when they sense movement around them.

[00:03:34]Because of this, the group always keeps a steady pace and observes carefully before moving closer.

[00:03:40]For the Hadzabe people, understanding animal behavior is just as important as finding their tracks.

[00:04:39]>> Crocodiles can remain still for hours simply observing their surroundings, so we also spend a great amount of time watching every small change ahead of us.
