Korean verb endings follow a single vowel harmony rule: bright vowels (아, 오) require the ending 아요/어요, while dark vowels (everything else) require 어요/어요, which applies consistently across present, request, and past tense forms.

Stop Memorizing Korean Endings — One Rule Controls All of Them | Almost Korean本站添加:
Korean vowels have bright [music] and dark sides and they refuse to mix.
Every Korean verb and adjective ends in ta, but you almost never use it that way.
>> [music] >> In a real sentence, ta drops and the stem takes a different ending.
Which ending?
That depends on the last vowel in [music] the stem.
A and O are bright vowels. Everything else is dark. [music] Bright and dark never mix. This is vowel harmony.
Ayo and oyo are the polite [music] present endings.
If the last vowel in the stem is bright, you use ayo.
Anta [music] means to sit. The last vowel in the stem is a, so it becomes anjao.
If the last vowel is dark, [music] you use oyo.
Mokta means to eat. The last vowel is a, so it becomes [music] mogoyo.
Ajuseyo and ojuseyo mean please do something [music] for me. Exact same rule.
Anta becomes anjajuseyo. Please sit down.
Mokta becomes [music] mogojuseyo. Please eat.
Assayo and [music] ossayo are the polite past endings. Still the same rule.
Anta becomes [music] anjasoyo. I sat.
Mokta becomes mogosoyo. I ate.
