Gas is up over a dollar a gallon in Georgia compared to last yearAdded:
So, we had a whole Gulf trip planned for this summer. My family and I were excited. The bags were basically already packed mentally.
And then we looked at what it would actually cost to get there in gas, and we had to have a very different conversation. Gas prices in Georgia are up over a dollar a gallon compared to this time last year. A dollar per gallon. That adds up fast on a long drive. Experts are pointing to two main things. The ongoing conflict with Iran is affecting oil markets, and summer travel demand is picking up at the same time.
High demand plus supply pressure equals higher prices at the pump.
And we are not the only family recalibrating. A lot of Georgia families are changing their summer plans because the cost of just getting somewhere has gotten so much harder to justify.
For us, that means skipping the Gulf and looking at what's closer to home.
Which honestly is a little disappointing, but it's also just the reality of the budget right now.
This is one of those things that sounds like an abstract economic issue until you're the one doing the math on a road trip and realizing it doesn't work anymore.
