Beckett's NEW Card Label + Ebay REJECTS Gamestop OfferAdded:
ALF, we have a new BGS label. Not a new slab, but a new label. Very interesting.
High techch Becket label is here. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
>> ALSO, Ryan Cohen and GameStop stiff armed by eBay.
>> Are we about to see a war happen?
>> Give me a ping, Vicil. One ping only, please. All right, Captain.
>> Welcome back, friends, to another episode of the sports card Dad. I was scrolling on IG this morning and Neo's post hit my feed with a new Becket grading label. Not a new slab. And frankly, if it ain't froke, if it ain't broke, don't fix it with the slab. That thing I I literally watched a couple of Becket slabs that flew off the top of my car, still in the packages. Literally saw them across the street get run over by a truck. A LITERAL TRUCK.
BUT WE HAVE SEEN AND NOT JUST Becket but really all the grading companies, we've folks that have been trying to create fake Becket labels, slabs and labels.
And so these labels from what the website shows have got some added security features almost kind of like currency. We've got a few different markers that makes it tough to counterfeit. The added investment in BGS from Collectors Inc. runs counter to the belief or the conspiracy theory that Collectors Inc. is just going to shut down BGS and SGC. they have put money into BGS. There's one thing that I would really like to see happen with BGS and SGC to make it really all uniform is one to have the same capabilities with BGS and SGC to where it's all integrated with eBay to where you can then send those cards to the PSA vault and onto eBay. Also a big one from BGS especially. I feel like SGC has a pretty good submission flow to it as far as just kind of keeping you updated on what's going on. BGS website is still a little funky to me. I've got a submission in with BGS now and it's like they tell you that they received it and then there's an invoice created and then it's going to grading and then when it's ready to ship out then your grades are ready. It's just not a very steady flow there. There's not great communication the website and when you go into your account it's funky looking. It's just not easy to navigate the same way that the PSA app is. And so what I'm really hoping is that at some point you can see all of these submissions in one place or at least just have kind of the BGS SGC apps look a lot like and act a lot like the PSA app does now where it's just very streamlined. It's very easy to use.
The UI is great on it.
>> I'm not quitting. I'm evolving.
>> Ryan Cohen has been making the media rounds.
>> Frankly, with me running eBay, I think that the company the earnings power of the company is going to increase substantially. uh as well as the ability to to grow. The platform stagnated over the last decade and uh I could do a lot with eBay.
>> I love it.
>> That's a very strong business and that's right up my alley.
>> Take us through the big vision like in 5 years you're at the helm like how big can this business be? Are you expanding it? Obviously there's an operational efficiency point, but what is the big picture? What's the blue sky pie in the sky vision for the combined entity?
>> So where we've had success at GameStop and where eBay has had success is in collectibles, trading cards, uh collectibles. the founder of your show was uh was talking about his mobile block and I'm like that's a good example that's uh a perfect item to go and buy on eBay, but you're always concerned uh that is it going to be real and the trust and that's something that using GameStop 1600 stores we can immediately authenticate that item. The seller can ship it or we can ship it but we've got 1,600 access points that we can do live authentication >> even selling stuff on eBay in an effort to buy eBay. He's been making kind of a big joke of this, really trolling eBay hard. This guy wants to own eBay through GameStop and through some massive leverage buyout thing that he's trying to pull off. Well, eBay just got back to everybody. They are rejecting the offer.
They don't even really take it seriously. These are fighting words. And so, what will Ryan Cohen do next? He doesn't really strike me as a guy that's just going to lay down.
>> An owner's mentality. You know, I can I want I want to own eBay forever. Like, I I love that business. It's run like a public utility. It should have been wiped out, but it hasn't been.
>> Yeah. It's been remarkably resilient.
How many how many companies how many startups have gone after a specific category on eBay, raised 100 million plus dollars, and yet eBay has remained resilient. So, it shows that that there's um you know, it's it's it's a really powerful platform.
>> Yeah, >> that's why I love it. And you know, the website still looks the same as it did in 1995, but everyone's tried to kill this thing and it's still making over $2 billion a year. He seems to have his mind wrapped around acquiring eBay. And if you're GameStop and you're him, the upside to acquiring eBay is massive.
Yes, you would be acquiring a ton of debt. You would have a ton of leverage to buy eBay to get into eBay, but you would have eBay. And Ryan Cohen's talked a big game about how eBay, even though it's a 25year-old company, longtime company, and the website really hasn't changed since the 90s, it is still cooking. It still makes about $2 billion a year, he said. And so he wants eBay. I don't think that he is going to back down. Maybe he just works to improve GameStop's financial position more over the next three months, six months, year and is trying to make a more aggressive bid. He did say he's going to go directly to shareholders. So what is coming next? It will be interesting to see how that plays out. But but wait a second. Shout out to a couple of our channel sponsors. PSA, you need a discount. $25 off that first submission over at PSA with the SEDD25 code. Make sure to tell a friend, get $25 off that first PSA submission. And Kronosio crushing it for people that are looking to sell volume on eBay. AI integrated for all the listings, the shipping stuff, inventory management with Kronosio. It's never been easier.
High-powered scanner that can scan upwards of a thousand cards an hour.
Think about how long it takes to just put do one listing, two listings, three listings on eBay. This is doing it in mass. Fully integrated, very easy to use. Super Bowl Saints promo code gets you money off Kronosio products. Make sure to travel down to the video description, check out all the promo codes and links to save you money. All right, back to the show. Ryan Cohen again just does not strike me as a guy that's just going to lay down and just take that rejection. He probably already assumed that this was going to be the answer. And my guess is he's got a backup plan. So, this will be fun to watch. Will a Ryan Cohen owned eBay/G GameStop kind of all-in-one company?
Will it be good for the overall hobby landscape? Maybe, maybe not. We don't really know. Now, it's just kind of like the devil, you know, versus the devil you don't. You know, there's things about eBay that people really like.
There's things that people really hate about the way eBay operates. At the same time, though, we know what we're going to get with eBay for the most part. Ryan Cohen led eBay. Maybe it'll be magnificent. Who knows? But we don't really know that. And we also don't really know if he's going to be able to pull this off. This is a massive undertaking, but we'll have to see how it plays out. My friends, let me know your thoughts about the new Beckett label, the new BGS label. I'm seeing more and more momentum around BGS. And one thing I was thinking about, too, because TAG recently came out and said that they have to shut down kind of their their bulk or kind of their intro levels, their their intro level submissions because they're just too far behind. I would think that that would benefit a company like BGS because TAG is mostly mainly grading TCG cards.
Mostly it's Pokemon cards. Let's just be honest. BGS actually does pretty good volume as well with TCG. And I think that they could actually get a boost from tag being behind and not being able to kind of get caught up on some of that TCG stuff. And so BGS, a longtime hobby company, does feel like it's got some momentum behind it. We'll see how it plays out, my friends. STAY HEALTHY >> UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN.
>> Stay awesome. and I will talk to you again later.
