The Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction, originally named after Adolf Jarisch and Karl Herxheimer, was initially a specific medical phenomenon occurring only with antibiotic treatment for syphilis, Lyme disease, and leptospirosis. While modern interpretations have broadly applied this term to any detoxification reaction where dying bacteria or parasites release toxins, this generalization can be dangerous. Symptoms that appear to be a Herxheimer reaction may actually indicate severe allergic reactions or other serious conditions. The key principle is to always listen to your body and err on the side of caution when experiencing adverse reactions, rather than assuming a detoxification response and continuing a substance that may be causing harm.

Understanding the Truth about Jarisch Herxheimer ReactionAdded:
[music] >> Hello friends. Heidi here from Rain Country. God is good all the time. And by the way, just ignore the noise in the background. I've got a box of my second batch of chicks for the year right over here. So they're scratch around and pretty busy in there right now. But today I want to answer not exactly a question but more a comment I get quite a bit especially on the video I did a few years ago about diatomaceous earth. And I was sharing some of the symptoms I had after taking it for on a regular basis for a couple of weeks and explaining why I gave it a break for a time. Just so people know, I did go back and start taking it again. I always do it in spurts. I rarely ever do continual daily use of any one thing for a long period of time. And the reason for that is I think that with there's a lot of things especially anything is very cleansing, it's a good idea to always give your body a break. Well, because of those symptoms that I was sharing which by the way, I'll link to that video down below which I just happen to be wearing the same outfit. I didn't think about that till I was walking in here to shoot this video. If you'd like to learn more about it and its benefits and yes, it is very beneficial and yes, I do use it a lot for many things and it is very cleansing and it can help kill parasites in the body and so much more.
But at any rate so many times since that video was published, there's always someone that comes in and said basically tells me I should have kept taking it cuz I was just having the Herxheimer reaction which the full name of it, some people call it Herx for short, Herxheimer for short or the proper name would be Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction because it was named after Adolf Jarisch and Karl Herxheimer. So that's where it got its name. And initially this reaction was very specific to only one certain thing and the reactions that happened as a result and that one certain thing was when antibiotics were issued to a patient and the patient began getting rashes and flu-like symptoms. Not just specifically to that but even more specific to the reason the antibiotics were being administered and that was for three things: syphilis, Lyme disease and one more, let me look at the name, leptospirosis.
I don't know that I've heard of that before but I think it's it's a bacterial infection that's contracted by animal urine if I remember correctly. But anyway, through the years and in modern times, the Herx reaction has now taken on a more broad meaning. Now people apply that to just about anything that if you're having a reaction as a result of some kind of detox, for example, you're killing off the bacteria or parasites within the body and while they're dying, they're producing toxins and those toxins are what is making you sick. Yes, I agree with that. Yes, there is truth to that. But the reason I'm approaching this is that to call everything a Herx reaction or Herxheimer reaction is can be quite dangerous and even one of the links that I went to that was, you know, encouraging people to embrace the discomfort, even that they did clarify that it is important that you make sure that's what it is and don't just assume. So in my case, I know I was correct in quitting taking the diatomaceous earth for that time especially considering the reaction I had I was having. It was pretty clear to me what it was and it it was not one of the common symptoms people will equate to a detoxifying effect that you can have or that sickness you get from detoxifying.
It is very different. It's not one that you'll find in any of the lists and I still know to this day that I was correct in doing what I did and I'm glad that I did. I eventually went back to taking the diatomaceous earth on a daily basis without that issue but also practicing taking breaks and only really using it for the time that I felt like I needed most. [clears throat] It's kind of like a certain substance that you're not allowed to talk about on YouTube but was a common thing that was prescribed to people usually a few drops on a spoonful of sugar or given to children at least once a year because of it to just do a parasite cleanse. But for most people, it was a once a year thing. They just did did parents and grandparents would dose all their children with this just once a year and they were perfectly fine. They managed to live and yet now it's being vilified and you could get in big trouble for talking about it on YouTube. So now I'm not going to answer if you ask me in comments below the YouTube video. If you ask below Rumble, I can talk about it there. But even talking about it in comments can get a person in trouble. So yes, >> [laughter] >> there's a reason why I have to be very vague. But what I can tell you is that it starts with a T and it comes from pine.
That's all I'm going to say about that.
If you'd like more information, you can go over to my Rumble channel which is always linked in the description box down below and you'll see the video I did several years back that originally got me in trouble on YouTube that is pinned to the very top so people can always find it.
Since I always have to be so vague.
But at any rate, there's it's not something like some people may use that daily but that's not always good for everybody to do and certain amounts are certainly not good to do daily. That's another thing I will use but also break it up.
So because a lot of people just hear this, oh it's a Herx reaction, I should just keep doing what I'm doing. Here's the question you need to ask yourself.
Are you certain that's the reaction you are having? Because all of the symptoms are the same kind of reactions you can have if you're either highly allergic to what you're taking and maybe you didn't know that or your body's trying to push out the toxin of what you're taking not the toxins of of what it's doing. Now maybe it's beneficial. Maybe it is a sign it is your body telling you you need to stop doing this like right now.
And even with the Herxheimer reaction from its original title when it when it was originally given, the though it was rare, it was possible that that reaction of the toxins from the bacteria that were dying off could have far more serious effects that could even cause organ failure. So if you consider that and then you apply it to the more broad spectrum of oh, well I'm taking this herb, I'm just having a Herxheimer reaction and making that bad assumption and you keep doing that, you could keep making things worse and eventually cause organ failure which can have some pretty detrimental effects to your health if it doesn't eventually take your life. So I wanted to clear that up and my main reason of making this short video was so that the next time somebody makes that comment instead of me having to go through all the trouble of explaining everything, I can just link them to this video and hope that instead of them just assuming what they said was 100% right, maybe humble themselves a little bit and watch the video and learn that that's not always the case and it always it's always best to listen to your own body just like the one link I read that was promoting this whole thing yet was still saying make sure you listen to your body. Make sure you listen to your body. It's the number one thing I like to tell people. Well, maybe not the number one but one of the many things that are at the top of the list I like to tell people whenever you're starting anything new, any kind of new diet regimen to help help with digestion or whatever it may be, it doesn't matter if it's an herb or substance like diatomaceous earth or anything else, always listen to your body and err on the side of caution when you're having a bad reaction >> [music] >> rather than keep doing the thing that's making you sick in the first place.
So I hope you enjoyed this video and it helped give you a little [music] food for thought on that and to really just come back to the basics and to the common sense whenever it comes to your health, how you [music] eat and how you care for yourself. And any thoughts, ideas you'd like to share, please put [music] those in comments down below and thanks for watching. Take care and God bless.
