The Acropolis in Athens, Greece, is a 2,000-year-old complex built after Athens defeated Persia around 500 BC, dedicated to Athena, the goddess of war and victory. The Parthenon, its most famous structure, originally served as a temple to Athena, later became a church with a bell tower, then a mosque under the Byzantine Empire, and was damaged during Venetian attacks when gunpowder stored inside exploded. This site represents the origin of Western civilization, with much of modern culture tracing back to this ancient location.

Athens Greece was not how we expected ๐ฌ๐ทAdded:
Now, >> I do have a confession to make.
>> That was awesome.
>> That's so cool.
>> All right, guys. Good morning and welcome to country number seven.
>> We are now in Greece.
>> Feels crazy after 3 months in Asia to be in Europe. It's a total environment change. We're up bright and early cuz we have something super important, super basic to do. But let's go.
>> Let's go.
All right, so we have made it to the base of the Acropolis, which is the most Athens thing that there is to do. You've probably already seen it, so we won't spend too too much time on it, but we're super excited to check it out. We already are missing the Asian prices, I'll tell you that. The entrance was โฌ30 a piece. All right, we made it in. and welcome to Kyle's history class. So, the whole Acropolis complex is just the Acropolis is the name for the complex and the Parthonon is the most famous building on top that we'll show you that you've already seen before. This whole thing is famous. They built it after Athens defeated Persia and this massive war. And this whole complex is from 500 BC. So, literally 500 years before Jesus. It's that old.
Yeah. IA is the goddess of war and victory. So they built it in her name after defeating the Persians.
Also guys, pro tip for you. We got here, our entrance ticket was for 9:00 a.m.
and it's packed. So if you want a bit more of a private, relaxed experience, get here before that. Maybe 8:00, I would say.
>> Honestly, we have seen a lot of people since we arrived.
I feel like we're in Japan again with this many tourists. This is crazy.
>> Wow.
>> Like I said, guys, it is 9:00 a.m. I don't know if there exists a time where this isn't crowded, but 9:00 a.m. is definitely not that time.
This really is such an incredible site.
It's uh it's worth coming to see. You have to come see it. It's just a shame that it's uh so really crowded, even early at 9:00.
And the view you get from up here is just absolutely insane. Could you imagine when this thing was first built?
People laying their eyes on this for the first time. I mean, it's incredible.
2,000 years in the future. Imagine what it looked like 2,000 years ago. It is so insane what people were able to do so long ago. Super cool, man. If you're into history, this is like, you know, obviously it's a bummer cuz it's like such a tourist attraction, right? It's so crowded with people. But >> but it's beautiful.
>> Yeah. You got to keep in mind that this is literally like the origin of Western civilization. Like everything we do today, so much of it comes from this place. So I was just listening in on one of the tour guides and I learned something really cool. So the Parthonon originally was built like we said as a temple to the goddess Athena. Later in the future it became a church. They had a bell tower and everything. Later it was taken over by the Byzantine Empire and it was turned into a mosque. So the guy was explaining that Parthonon was in perfect shape up until like 1680. An insane amount of time. It was in phenomenal shape. The Byzantines, the Turks took the place over. They turned into a mosque. Then at one point they were raided in a war by the Venetians.
And the Venetians launched an attack.
They were shooting cannonballs at the place. And the Byzantines, the Turks, saw that one of the cannonballs literally hit one of those columns and bounced off. It left a dent and that was it. So they said, "Wow, this place is super safe. It's like a castle. So, what they did next was they moved all of their gunpowder inside the Parthonon cuz they're like, "This is the best place to put it. It's super safe." Until another attack from the Venetians was launched and they actually hit all of the barrels of gunpowder in the Parthonon. So, a massive explosion went off, destroying a huge part of the Parthonon. So, you could literally see I'll show it to you right now. So, literally, you see it's in really good condition. And here there's this massive part blown off and that is where the explosion happened.
What a cool cool experience that was guys. Just for reference if you plan on visiting, we only spent like an hour in the whole place and I feel like we got a pretty good look at everything. So you don't really need a ton of time.
You know exactly where we're going now.
Coffee time. Yeah.
>> Yeah. You know, after 3 months in Asia, we definitely have a newfound love for Asia and the whole vibe over there, but we also really do love the European vibe. It's awesome. Now, I do have a confession to make. I have been to Greece before kind of.
>> I'm not here. So, >> I went to one island for like 6 hours off the coast of Turkey, which is like I've been to Greece, but I haven't really been to Greece, you know. So, it really is our first experience together actually in Greece >> for me. First time in Greece. And it's beautiful.
>> So cool.
Now we are in MS rooftop garden and we're going to get some coffee with this awesome view.
>> Literally a full view of the parthonon.
We ordered two coffees which I didn't even know they had their own coffee. So I'm really excited to try. And we literally asked our waitress. We're like, "How do you even say thank you?"
And we feel so stupid because we have like a general travel rule that when you go to a country, you should at least learn how to say hello and thank you.
And we have slacked off so hard and we just like cannot get I think she said esto is thank you. Oh my god, I feel so guilty.
>> Kisto, >> I think it's eff.
>> We got our Greek coffees and the world's smallest acai bowl.
>> We're going to share.
>> But it looks good. Let's see what the Greek coffee tastes like.
It's pretty strong like you feel with this amazing view. How could you possibly beat this?
>> God, are we missing those qualur prices?
Oh my god, we literally just got the two coffees in the acai bowl for like โฌ20, which is like probably 25 bucks. We were eating really good in Koala, like big dinners for $25. It's crazy that Southeast Asia, especially in Malaysia, the prices are just insane.
>> Sitting here sipping a delicious coffee with my beautiful girlfriend while looking at a 2,000-year-old archaeological site. Does life get any better than this? I don't think so. I don't. Is there a better? Is there better?
>> Mm- >> I don't think so. So, Athens is very famous obviously for its ancient history, but it's also famous more modernly. Modernly, is that even a word?
It's also pretty famous in modern times for the graffiti and the amount of graffiti. And it's kind of interesting.
I'm getting the vibe that like when you go to a city, if there's like isolated graffiti, it's kind of ugly, right? It makes the city look crappy, you know?
But here, it's cool because there's graffiti everywhere. So, it's almost like it's at a certain quantity of graffiti, it becomes cool, and now it's almost like the whole city is a big piece of art. I don't know. It's kind of interesting.
You guys think I could convince Valentina to buy me a Spartan helmet?
Wow, look at my soldier. I'm a >> Spartan.
So far, pretty awesome, guys. I don't know. Athens is I feel like this city gets kind of like a a bad reputation, a bad rap, especially compared to like other European cities, but I think it's awesome.
>> It's beautiful. Showing up all the little stores that we have seen around.
>> Super cute. Total uh total vibe change from Koala Lumpur to Athens. Walking through the streets in Europe is always like such a great experience. And not to mention too, Koala Lumpur was 95ยฐ and humid. It's like 75 and perfect sunny here. Just for reference for you guys in case you're coming here, all these little stores and shops and restaurants are in the Monastery Square area by the train station. It's really cool. There's a ton of people here, but beautiful. Me and Valentine are expressing all the self-control we have. We literally want to buy everything. all the new decorations that we could have for our future house. But we got to save.
There's a lot of more countries to go to and Europe has been quite more expensive than Asia.
>> Yeah, it's a little expensive, but it's beautiful. And we're going to try just to don't buy a lot of things. We got Roska.
>> Got a nice little like street bagel from the sweetest old lady.
>> They were uh it was 80 cents 80 less than a practice saying thank you.
The more I say it, the more I'll remember it. When you learn a language, it's like some words stick so easily and others don't.
>> Yeah, it's stale. Don't worry, when we do the full food tour, we're going to get up early and go to a nice bakery and get the legit stuff. But I wanted a little snack. What a beautiful church.
And obviously Greece is known for Greek Orthodox Christian churches. So a bit different than like Protestant, Catholic churches. Super cool though. Really, really beautiful.
Super Linda.
>> Great vibe, man. Great. It's been a long time since we've been in Europe, and I almost forgot how cool it is. And we made it to the Athens Cathedral, guys.
This is incredible. So much bigger than the other one that we're just looking at.
>> You got to be careful here, though. The floor is like so well polished. It's kind of slippery. I love how every place we go, we literally have almost zero plan. And it still turns out to be an amazing day. We just explore and find the coolest stuff. I didn't know it was here. We just randomly came across. Such a cool contrast having the church here.
And then over in the distance, you could see the Acropolis on the hill.
>> So beautiful.
And then right over here next to the Athens Cathedral is another small little I imagine much older church. This is so cool. We didn't mean for this video to turn into a church tour, but there's just so many and they're so cool. We got to check them out.
>> I love how they literally just built this new massive building around this ancient church. They're like, "Well, we can't tear this church down, so let's just build around it."
Oh my goodness.
>> Oh my god.
Look at all the kids. All right, so we made it to the Cintagma Square.
Beautiful. There's a bunch of little like shops here we're going to have to check out. And also right ahead of us is the Hellenic Parliamentary Building, the Greek Parliament. Really cool.
>> I think Athens is really beautiful, honestly. And we haven't feel like not secure or like >> Yeah, I feel >> like we about that like more dangerous.
>> Yeah.
>> But we have been feeling really secure and safe, honestly.
>> Yeah. And of course, we're kind of like staying in, you know, central areas.
>> But I feel like when you look up things about Athens, it's like, oh, it's dirty, it's dangerous, there's a bunch of like drug addicts everywhere. But I had like this is really nice. I don't know.
I've definitely I think so far it's definitely exceeded my expectations. Oh no, guys. We couldn't help ourselves.
The guy was so nice and they look so good. We got four pieces of baklava to try.
>> All right, I'm going to start an absolute war in the comment section. Is baklava Greek or Turkish? All right, the first one is pistachio with cream, which looks really good. I've had a lot of baklava in my day, but I've never had one with cream in it.
>> Oh my god.
It's so good.
>> I'm so excited.
>> Greek food might be our favorite food in the world. I'm not saying it is, but it's definitely close.
>> So soft.
>> What are you, Italian?
>> All right. I was selfish and I took the first bite, but Valentina is the chocolate lover, so I Let's let her finish the chocolate one off. Tell me that's not amazing.
>> There you go.
Mhm.
Amigos.
>> And then finally, we have pistachio and walnut. I don't know which one is which.
I don't care.
>> Did you hear that crunch? It's crispy.
It's soft. So, the big difference between baklava and Greece and Turkey is in Greece they use more honey in the baklava. And in Turkey, it's more of like a syrup, I think. Don't kill me if I was wrong about that. And you could definitely taste it. This is very sweet.
It's like crunchy, soft, juicy all at the same time. It's so good. Come to Greece. Get some baklava. All right.
Now, this is either the pistachio or the walnut. Like we said, we I think this one's pistachio.
>> I think I have tried pistachio before.
Pistachio baklava.
>> You guys want some?
>> Yeah. With the cream in front of the helenic parliament singing West Virginia mountain mama, take me home.
All right, we spent a little bit of time just hanging out in the Airbnb. We're pretty cooked. The jet lag is hitting pretty hard. Now, we are off to get a little bit of dinner. And there's a really good suaky place right around the corner from our Airbnb. So, let's go eat. Let's go. Cheers.
So incredibly delicious. I won't lie, like kind of embarrassed to to film a video in there. There's like a squad of five Greek dudes just like staring us down. They were just happy like and interested to see that we were there, but it was kind of like I don't know, weird to film the video. But the food is so good. So so so good. It's crazy. If you look that place up, it literally has two reviews. like they deserve so much more credit cuz their food is insanely good. And also not to mention those two suakis and a beer, everything for โฌ8.
All right, so it is Saturday and this is the only Saturday we're going to get here in Athens. So we're going to go downtown and see maybe a little bit of what the night life is like.
>> Let's explore.
We literally just went to the first bar that we were planning on going to, which is like a rooftop. And then this group of like six ladies from Spain just appeared coming down the stairs and they're like, "If you guys," they were talking to us in Spanish. I don't know why. They're like, "If you guys are planning on going to that rooftop, it's a dump. Don't even go." We're like, "All right." So now we're trying another one.
The Hyper Astrobar. Oh, yeah. Nothing like a good European elevator. Uh, I don't know.
So now we arrived to a beautiful rooftop that is Hyper Astrobar and we have an awesome view of the Acropolis. We're just waiting that to have more lights and we're going to enjoy that so much.
Cheers.
Night life in Athens, man. Super unique.
One of the only places in the world where you could go out and drink it at night next to a 2,000y old mega.
>> Awesome.
>> So cool.
Wow, guys. Such an awesome awesome nightife scene. Just like every other city in Europe, the night life is so cool. There's so many people out at night and uh everyone's having a good time. That whole like area we were in, just if you're in Athens, go to Paceri Piri. I'll put it on the screen so you can see exactly where we were. But it's awesome. You can just roam around those streets for hours. All right, guys.
That's going to do it for this video. I think Athens has definitely far exceeded both of our expectations. It's been awesome.
See you.
