The Daryl my era is over in Philadelphia after 6 years as the Philadelphia 76ers have officially moved on from the president of basketball operations while Nick Nurse will remain in place. Do you want to break down what this means for the Sixers organization, why this is the start of a pretty noteworthy process that is set to go down this off seasonason and ultimately what Daryl's legacy will be based on the attempts with this team. Now, Daryl Mory is a guy in which there were sky-high expectations when he came to Philadelphia. And those expectations were very clearly get past the second round and have a chance at winning a championship. It is a resultsbased world that we live in and Daryl my was unable to reach those heights. And as a result of that, we got this breaking news from Sham Shirania today saying, "Breaking Daryl my is out as president of basketball operations with the Philadelphia 76ers after six seasons."

[00:00:45]sources tell ESPN my 76ers owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer met on Tuesday evening in Philadelphia and the decision was made to part ways and he followed up by saying head coach Nick Nurse will continue in his role into a fourth season with the 76ers sources tell ESPN four-time NBA champion architect Bob Meyers who's president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment will be tasked to lead the search for the new head executive for the 76ers and he will oversee the franchise's basketball department in the inter room now the Bob Meyers dynamic has been something that has been pretty awkward within the organization all year. Let's not forget that Bob Myers and Daryl my were the two executives in the entire league going toe-to-toe in the Western Conference for quite an extended period of time. This was the prime James Harden era and the prime Steph Curry era where the Warriors were obviously turning themselves into a dynasty and the Rockets were always the team right on the outside. They went to a Western Conference Finals against him. missed 27 consecutive three-pointers or whatever the case was in game seven to ultimately fall short in that that this is the same Daryl my made a PowerPoint presentation to the league about how unfair the way that the Warriors were guarding the Rockets were in that situation. So I have to imagine there was bad blood from that time and then more or less Bob Myers became Daryl Mory's boss. Now I keep getting you know told to me right here that Bob Myers is not interested in being the long-term general manager of the 76ers. Now granted, I'm a little bit skeptical of that personally that when he took this role with Harrison Blitzer, which is obviously Josh Harris and David Blitzer's corporation that owns the New Jersey Devils, the Washington Commanders, and the Philadelphia 76ers, that has been something that people, myself included, have been quite critical of Josh Harris for just viewing this as a business venture and not wanting your sports team to succeed to the level that the fan base does. I do think that is infectious around an organization and some of the reason why there are these cultural issues across the 60 organization right there. But with that to the side right there, they brought in Bob Myers and he's very clearly been a guy that has had Josh Harris's ear. You can see Bob Myers courtside all the time. I've seen him at 10 plus games this year for the Sixers just sitting there in those courtside seats right next to the bench right there taking everything in. That includes sitting next to Rich Paul, the most powerful man in all of NBA. The clutch sports I believe CEO, certainly the head guy that runs the agency right there and the guy that is most noteworthy in the Sixers case, Tyrese Maxis's agent right there. There was a lot of pressure from a lot of different factors and ultimately Daryl my is going to be the guy that wears the responsibility for this. Now there were a couple different quotes that I did want to point out. For starters, Bob Myers on Daryl my directly and what he said is quote I know how much the 76ers mean to the city of Philadelphia and it's important we find the right leader to shape the future of the team. The process will start immediately and we'll be thorough and deliberate in our evaluations. I believe this is a destination for top talent across the league and I look forward to solidifying our infrastructure moving forward. So, a pretty clear statement that he's not the guy that is going to be here long term, but ultimately that will be the case in the short term. Now, Josh Harris on Daryl my he said, quote, "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Daryl personally and professionally, and I'm grateful for his contributions over the last six seasons. After speaking with Daryl, we determined that it was time for a fresh start. Bob Myers will lead the process of identifying a new leader, and I believe his experience in constructing four NBA championship teams will be a valuable resource to our organization, to our fans. Your frustration and disappointment are understandable and warranted. We have fallen well short of our own expectations and failed to deliver in the way this city deserves. That bothers me deeply and I have confidence in Bob to establish a path forward for our franchise. Now, I will lead by saying I'm not the biggest Bob Myers guy. I frankly do think your job as a general manager becomes relatively easy when you inherit a guy named Steph Curry right there. Now, granted, Meyers still does deserve credit for being what he's labeled as the architect of this dynasty here. I do push back on that a little bit based on once again that he inherited Steph Curry, which is where the core of all this starts. And the biggest issue that I have with Bob Myers is look through the track record of moves that he make and draft picks that he selected. There's a lot of misses, man. The whole reason that this era of Warriors basketball essentially the door is slam shut largely stems from drafting James Wiseman second overall. You can talk about drafting Jonathan Kuminga fourth overall. It was Brandon Pachevsky the answer. Was Moses Moody the answer?

[00:04:52]My point being here, he has not drafted well and that is the reason that this dynasty has ultimately soured up. Now that happens in the NBA. This is not necessarily to be attacking Bob Meyers right here. But my point being is I don't necessarily think this guy is the soant in the way that is sometimes portrayed as. Is he a fine general manager that will hold the fort down for the 60s in the short term? I think that is fair to say. But there's a lot bigger picture questions about the six organization. We still have to have the Joel Embiid conversation. And that conversation has to begin with who is the guy that is even going to be making decisions right there. And I did want to talk a little bit about Nick Nurse keeping his job. For starters, there's certainly some awkwardness to that that generally the general manager and head coach have to be in unison there. And we saw what happened when Daryl my was hired that Doc Rivers was a head coach that he inherited right there. And there was a little bit of, you know, disagreement or not seeing eye to eye with some of these roster and personnel decisions. that is the job of the general manager or the president of basketball operations, which by the way, Elton Bran is still technically the general manager of the Sixers. He has not been the guy that has full out been making these decisions. I do wonder if his name pops back in the mix a little bit, but to state it forward, the guy that is largely taking the general manager role right here, the responsibility is to bring in as much talent as possible. Talent acquisition, bring in give your head coach, give your team the most possible chances that you can make happen right there. And it is the job of the head coach to maximize that talent to find a way to win the most games, give them the most playoff success. I do think when we have the Nick Nurse conversation, it is tough to paint anything that went wrong this year on Nick Nurse that frankly when you make the case of him walking into the office with Josh Harris or Harris Blitzer or whatever the case may be, whoever was at that table right there and Nick Nurse gets to say, "Look, I dealt with Joel Embiid playing 38 games this year. I dealt with Paul George being suspended 25 games for drugs. I dealt with Tyrese Maxi missing three weeks. You traded Jared McCain at the trade deadline and did not bring me an NBA rotation player.

[00:06:43]Despite that, we won 47 games, earned a top seven seed in the Eastern Conference, beat the Magic in the play in the playin, and then beat the Celtics in seven games in the opening round of the series. That's a pretty convincing case to be honest for him maximizing.

[00:06:55]And maybe the greater point here is from everything that I hear, Tyrese Maxi loves Nick Nurse, and that certainly matters for building out the organization moving forward. So, I understand why Nick Nurse is still here, but there will be a little bit of awkwardness for whoever the guy is that ends up being his boss and calling the shots. If there is disagreement there, the thing that I think Daryl my ultimately fell on the sword for, for sure, the headlines are going to be that you went all in on this star core. That Joel Embiid, his injury issues have popped up at a more prevalent rate than could be necessary for this team to have success. That Paul George has not been the differencemaker that he was signed to be right there, that so much is going to be talked about the stars. And while that is certainly a relevant part of the conversation, what my issue is with Daryl Mury and why I think this Sixers era has fallen short is if you're not a top, you know, 75 100 player in the NBA, you basically don't matter to Daryl my you lose me, man. When you look at all these teams that are contending for championships, so many of these rosters have impact players that the Sixers straight up let fall between their fingers. Look what Julian or Justin Champini is doing for the San Antonio Spurs. Look at Isaiah Joe. Look at Paul Reed. Look at Jared McCain for the Oklahoma City Thunder and each of those players in a vacuum. I don't disagree with Daryl my can be replaceable. Is Paul Reid a perfect player? Absolutely not. He's a backup center for a reason.

[00:08:12]He's a guy who has his limitations as a player right there. I understand Daryl my viewing him specifically as a guy that is replaceable right there. But when you consider him replaceable and you fail to replace him, that is an issue right there. Was a Dembona as good as Paul Reed was this year? No. Was Andre Drummond as good as Paul Reed was this year? No, he wasn't. So, you downgraded while taking the lumps with it? There's so many players when you look around these playoffs that are having awesome performances right there that the Sixers straight up had in this organization. Daryl Moy deserves credit for making the draft picks, but he doesn't get the credit for maximizing these talents. You willingly gave up on Jared McCain. You willingly cut Isaiah Joe for the ghost of Dwayne Deadman right there. Champini, you cut to get M.

[00:08:53]McClung on this roster to be in the dunk contest just so he could wear a Sixers jersey for that. That is not good business practice, man. The margin to win in the NBA is so small. And Daryl my has failed to maximize on these margins.

[00:09:05]He has tried with the two-way guys.

[00:09:07]There are points for the young core and all these things right there. But that sort of middle class of NBA players is something that my didn't have any new tricks for. He largely rolled back the same guys that he had success with down in Houston a decade later. Guess what?

[00:09:20]PJ Tucker at 37 years old is not going to look like PJ Tucker at 28 years old.

[00:09:25]You think Eric Gordon can still move around the court the way that it was when he was his prime? That's not going to happen here in Philadelphia and they had to pay the price for that specifically right there. In the large scheme of things, I don't think Daryl Mo was an atrocious general manager. I think he tried his best. I do think he has his flaws that his lack of attention to the, you know, deeper members of the league, the role players of the NBA certainly was a huge factor in this decision and something the Sixers are paying the price for. And I also think he's a guy that is a little bit, you know, blind to the human side of things that as much as we get so caught up in all these takes, all these opinions right there. Athletes are human beings, man. That there are personal effects when you trade a guy like Jared McCain within the walls of the locker room right there. And I think Mory sometimes gets so blind to the percentages and numbers and return and value as his full thought process that he does not have enough feel for the human being side of things of how much does this impact the locker room? How do guys actually feel about this player right there? Is there chemistry being built? And all these things matter. Man, it's such a fine margin. Once again, it is not easy to win in the NBA. Once again, you could say about every single team in the league that there is no chance this team will win a championship, and you'll be right 29 times out of 30, but it is a resultsbased world that we live in.

[00:10:35]There were sky-high expectations for the Sixers when Daryl my took over, and ultimately they failed to clear that bar right there. So, to Daryl my best of luck. Hope the the grass is green. There are better pastures elsewhere. Would not shock me if he full out walks away from basketball. He is a brilliant human being. Just as far as the mind, how smart the guy is. It wouldn't shock me if he heads down the Sam Hanky trajectory of being a guy that, you know, is trying something completely outside of the sport and whatever the case may be right there. And this also is the first real general manager search that the Sixers have had since Sam Hanky right there. The Kangelos were handed that job on a silver platter. They had to basically give Elton Bran the opportunity. Brett Brown filled that for a little bit that Daryl my basically forced himself into this role after pretty much leaving Houston in a pretty scummy way to be perfectly honest right there. So now this is a bit of a reset.

[00:11:23]There are big picture questions that we have to get into this offseason, but this now starts with who even is going to be the guy that is making those decisions right there. So this is the first step to a lot of fixes that still have to go down. To Nick Nurse, welcome back. Happy for you to remain in Philadelphia. You changed my perception of you a great deal in that Celtics series right there. and to whoever is next. There's a lot of work still to be put in. So, we'll see how things do shake out from here.
