He used this to prove that your soul and your mind are completely separate from your physical body. Long before modern philosophers argued about whether we are just brains in a vat or pieces of code in a computer, proved that even if you strip away the entire physical universe, your conscience self, your soul still fundamentally exists. So if you didn't have a body, who would you actually be?
