Can Water Really WALK? 🌈 Make a Rainbow with Science!

[00:00:02]Hi science buddies. Welcome back to my science channel. Today we're going to do a super cool experiment called walking water. This one's really cool. I know you're going to love it. So, what you'll need is food coloring. I'm using red, yellow, and blue. Those are our primary colors. They can make other colors. And we have some water. And we're gonna use six glasses in a circle. If you're doing it straight in a row, you're going to want seven glasses. Okay. So, and we're going to need paper towels.

[00:00:48]So, what we're first going to do is we're going to pour our water into our glasses. We're just going to do it in every other cup. And now we're all done with our water. Now, I'm going to start with our red.

[00:01:13]I'm going to add just like about three drops.

[00:01:20]And as you know, these are our primary colors. They make all the other colors, but all the other colors cannot make them. The other colors all are called secondary colors. And that's what's going to do in these. Now, I'm going to mix this up.

[00:01:45]Let's say bye-bye to this. You're going to fold it once, twice, and three times. We're going to fold it in half. We're going to place them in like this. Hi friends. Come on. Let's play. It's a sunny science day today.

[00:02:16]Look, they're starting to climb up a little. See, like we have our yellow.

[00:02:25]It's going to take a little while for the colors to climb up. So, don't worry if yours isn't climbing up yet. Takes a while. We're going to watch as they turn into beautiful, beautiful walking water.

[00:02:59]So, and what happened?

[00:03:03]What helped the water climb up the paper towels and into the other cup? It all has to do with capillary action. Imagine that the paper towels are made of little tubes like super skinny straws. You can't see at all. When we put the paper towels into the water, the water got excited and wanted to go up the tubes.

[00:03:36]So when the water goes up, it pulls more water up and up and up with it. You know, capillary action isn't just for walking colors. It's all around us. It's how plants drink water from the ground all the way up to their leaves. Science is so cool. It helps us understand even little things like rainbow colors walking. I hope you like that experiment.
