Economic liberalization policies, often imposed by international financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank as conditions for bailout packages, can have complex and sometimes unintended consequences for host countries, as demonstrated by Ethiopia's experience where currency devaluation occurred despite government claims of economic expansion and foreign investment.

Drone Strikes | Axum Tigray | Ethiopia France追加:
Two drone strikes have been conducted by the Ethiopian air force on faro fighters in the last 72 hours. Secondly, Tearay Tearay Orthodox Church has made a decision.
Can this decision be implemented? And lastly, French president is visiting Ethiopia. What is the agenda of this visit?
Welcome to the channel. Thank you for watching. Let's start with the story about French president's visit of Ethiopia.
Uh after around a week uh after 4 days rather, French president Emanuel Macron is due to visit Ethiopia.
uh government sources are confirming that Emanuel Macron will visit Edis Ababa. Maybe on the 13th or 14th of May, uh Emanuel Macron will be in Addis. What is the agenda of this? Why is Macron coming to Ethiopia? Well, Macron is basically coming to Kenya.
in Kenya Africa uh first summit is being organized uh uh and in that uh summit French president is due to uh participate and from Nairobi Emanuel Macron will come to Ethiopia.
So this this visit is not just uh Macron's visit of only Ethiopia rather it's a regional tour and what we have learned so far is that some CEOs of French companies are going to accompany Emanuel Macron on his visit to Ethiopia. you know that Ethiopia has liberalized its economy. It has opened its retail sector, its uh other sectors for foreign investment.
Banking sector too has also been opened for foreign investors.
Now foreign companies are investing in Ethiop and Meridium are two companies based in France.
whose CEOs will accompany Emanuel Macarron. They are seeing opportunities in Ethiopian market. They will invest here. So basically Emanuel Macarron will be on a business trip to Ethiopia. What will Ethiopia get in return from France while stabilizing its economy? Question is what is in this liberalization for Ethiopia?
Is Ethiopia getting technology from the west? Is it getting uh uh sharing of ski? Is it is it uh getting its people trained abroad? Is it getting technology from abroad? What is in this investment for Ethiopia? And are countries uh investing more than they are taking away from Ethiopia?
The liberalization of economy was a prerequisite for it was a precondition uh imposed by foreign donors for Ethiopia. Ethiopian economy was in need of a bailout package. IMF and World Bank told Ethiopia to open up its economy is going to make the make the big a big move of opening up its economy for foreign investors.
But Ethiopian currency bearer could not really see the result of this liberalization. Rather value of bear against dollar has been declining since 2024.
But those who were part of the government they say that Ethiopian economy is set to expand rapidly in coming years and that Ethiopia will get billions of dollars of investment in coming months and years. Secondly viewers uh Tearay Orthodox Church has made a decision which is being seen as a controversial decision.
Tearay you know has established its own orthodox church its own senord. I think the Orthodox church now has split with the main orthodox of Ethiopia though they they they have not elected their patriarch but they have a senor to I think they're making appointments of archbishops to to tear and abroad as well. According to a statement issued by Tegaratov Church, Axom city has been renamed. St. Aom Zeon city is the name of the city. Now the city has been given religious name representing Orthodox Christianity.
The Tearay Orthodox Church wants this city to be the center of Orthodox Christianity and uh the church is in talks with authorities, local authorities to ban the sale of uh liquor in the city. Restriction could could be imposed on hotels and rest restaurants too about which things can be sold which cannot be sold. Talks are underway between Axom authorities and Orthodox church elders.
If uh the city name is changed and all the uh suggestions of orthodox uh elders are implemented perhaps uh the Muslims case for permission to wear hijab at schools uh will have no future already in the Muslims case have no future. Muslim case has no future because Muslim students have been out of school for over a year now. Uh they were not allowed to wear hijab in schools. They could not uh take 12th grade exam as well.
Uh despite a court decision in their favor, they could not get relief from local authorities.
Let's see what happens. Will the decision of change of Axom city be implemented?
Will government implement the decision?
Tear, what is DPLF's position about this change of name of Axom city?
Uh lastly viewers, two Dawn strikes have been conducted on Faro fighters in the Amhara region.
Uh reportedly in both the Dawn strikes a faro fighters were hit. Whenever dawn strikes happen in the Amara region, faro fighters don't admit their losses.
Have you seen a single statement by far confirming that uh one of their faro fighters was killed in a dawn strike?
No.
Since 2023, they have not admitted a single death in dawn strikes. And whenever dawn strikes happen, pan fighters accuse Ethiopia force of killing civilians.
Yes, civilians die too. Sometimes because of uh sometime because of sometimes die as cretal damage sometimes because of faulty intelligence but for fight is a dying to uh the first donke was conducted in simada simada is in south gond if you remember a few weeks ago simada was under faro's control faro captured the city local forces regional forces withdrew.
Later ENDF and Nahar regional forces launched an operation and they retook Simada.
Faro again entered Simada and then uh Ethiopian air force conducted on strikes there. Some faro fighters were killed after that they retreated from Simada South Kundra.
Second strike uh was conducted in Vageda and there too Vageda came under Faro's control. They released pictures from there showing their control of Wagada.
Ethiopian air force then conducted drone strikes. Faro suffered losses. They withdrew. Wageda town is under government control. There is no Faro presence there.
According to profane sources in these two drone strikes 10 civilians have been killed. They say five were killed in Simada and five were killed in Vagada.
But they're confirming that Faro took control of the two cities. What I have learned is that Faro controlled the cities were patrolling the streets of the two cities when strikes were conducted with the Ethiopian air force.
After Faro suffered losses, they had to retreat from these two towns.
Uh whenever armed groups are hit by Dones, whether it's Ola or Faro or it was DPL in the past, Tigra in the past, whenever they suffered losses in non- strikes, they never admitted that they had suffered losses. Thanks for watching.
