When starting a snail mail club, common mistakes include undercharging while over-delivering (charging $11/month when costs were $9.50, resulting in only $1 profit), using expensive materials like gloss paper ($460 per print run) instead of cost-effective alternatives, and relying on platforms with technical glitches that can cause data loss. Successful snail mail clubs require careful cost calculation, strategic material selection, and platform reliability testing to ensure profitability and customer satisfaction.

Watch This Before Starting a Snail Mail Club (Mistakes I Made)Ajouté :
If you're starting a snail mail club, listen up. I'm going to take you through all the mistakes and things I wish I knew before I started mine. So, for some background, I had a snail mail club quite a few months ago and one of the most incredible things happened and that is so many people signed up that I could not keep up with it. I had a waiting list. It just got to be too much. So, I put a halt on to it. Last month, I restarted it and now I know so much more than I could ever imagine. And here are all the things I wish I knew before. And I also want to just give you guys permission to screw up royally like I have because it's the only way you're going to learn. It's never going to be perfect. And if you want to start one, just start. And it will take you about 1 to 3 months to get all the tweaks, get all the bugs out. And you'll start to develop a system that will work really smoothly for you while cashing in. A lot of snail mail clubs are done by artists, poets, graphic designers, some kind of a artistic spin on things. Since my niche is making money online, mine is set up like a magazine. I'm going to show you the month of May. So this is what mine looks like. And what it is, it's basically just set up like a magazine.
And mistake number one, I way overd delivered and undercharged, which is fine. So I'm charging $11 a month for my mail club. And all in all, the whole thing operation cost me about $9.50 each. So I really only made like a dollar after like PayPal fees and all this stuff. So that's mistake number one. But I just felt like I needed to put out an incredible product because it just makes me feel good. So now I know where to like cut where to make cuts and where to, you know, go hard on and just really how to deliver with making a profit. That's really cool about the month of May, my mail club, is I have I did front to back. I did gloss paper.
We're going to talk about that in a sec.
But right here, this is really cool. So, since I'm not an artist, I'm not giving out my artwork or my poetry. I'm giving out, you know, fun things to make extra money, right? So, here I printed out, not printed out, I purchased these are fake. So, and I wrote a note. These are fake. These are this is called toy money. You can get them on Amazon. And I put in a I put $300 in each one. So what this is doing is this whole this whole page is a money manifestation technique taught by Neville Goddard. So I had them do it which is just a fun creative way to you know to put my own spin on things.
So this is just the rest of what it looks like and then I have a letter at the end from myself.
So this is really fun. So since it is the bougie gloss paper, I could not pack it in a normal envelope. So this is what I bought originally. Unfortunately, I could not pack it in this. So I had to buy Manala envelopes for my mail club. And instead of the 70 or I think 70.7 70 cent stamps, the forever stamps, instead of using the 70 cent stamp, it cost me 24.44 44 to mail each one. But the plus side to this is that there's tracking. So, I haven't had a problem yet, but there's always one, you know, crazy person that's going to say, "Oh, I didn't get it." Yes, you did. I have tracking. Wrap each one up in different kinds of ribbon. So, this is super fun. Bedazzle the crap out of it.
I mean, look at this. Are you kidding?
So cute. Going to get stickers. You're going to get You're going to get your initials on here somewhere. You're going to get your name. You're It's fun. So, next month I ordered personalized stickers, which is going to be wonderful. And they have just shipped, so I'm very excited. Back to the gloss paper. Each one cost me about $460 to print, and that should have been more like $2. The gloss paper really did a number on me, which is okay because I didn't want to send them anything less than incredible. A couple things I could do going forward. I could up the price to $15 a month, but I think that that is silly and I don't want to do that. So, instead for next month, I am going to continue doing the gloss paper, I'm going to continue doing black and white because it's a little bit less expensive. And instead of doing eight pages, I'm going to do about four to six pages. So, that should cut cost a little bit. Ordered Manila envelopes in bulk.
And I also ordered a ton of ribbon. So that so the props that is taken care of. So I don't have to worry about the cost of that right now. And next month I'm looking to turn a profit of probably $4 each. So let's just think about it right now. Have 300 people sign up for your snail mail club and you're making $4 a pop. You're turning a $1,200 a month profit. What I love about my snail mail club and just snail mail clubs in general is that it is like an adult art project. I'm getting paid to do arts and crafts for other adults who are willing to learn and just love receiving mail. And it also just takes away that that online thing and it gets people off the internet and it also develops a connection and some kind of trust between myself and the person who's buying it. Another thing that went wrong this month. So, the platform I use for my checkout services is Beacons AI. I love them. I use them for pretty much everything. A lot of people do use Shopify. I love Beacons, but I there was a glitch. I had to get on the phone with support. It only captured half of So, half of the people who signed up, it cap it captured their full address and the other half it only captured their city and state. So, that was really annoying.
I had to go and personally email everyone, not everyone, but half the people to get their full address to actually mail it. And this was definitely a screw-up, but I will say that it did add another layer of personal connection cuz people love to hear from me and I love to talk to them.
And a lot of people were just like, "Oh my goodness, I'm so excited for next month's mail club." You know, here's my address again. So, I thought that was pretty cool. Um, another thing I did was I I already mentioned that I ordered some personalized stickers. I'm also going to or I'm also going to order some personalized matchbooks. Sky is the limit on what you can do with your mail club. If you guys need help starting your own mail club, I go through the entire process in my school community or you can just ask me here. I'm happy to help. It is so fun. And if you want to sign up for my mail club, the link is somewhere on here. And let me know if you have any questions and good luck.
