VISITING THE HOOVER DAM 2026

[00:00:00]Good morning and hello everybody. It is Mother's Day weekend. I Well, I'm still in Las Vegas, but I am at the Hoover Dam directly behind me. We're going to go walk across the Hoover Dam, read up on some stuff. I haven't been here in a while. I parked at this other parking garage for once. Usually, I park on the Arizona side. Look at From here, you can see how low Lake Meat is, but we'll get into that in a minute. But halfway across, you're going to be in Arizona.

[00:00:29]You're going to go ahead an hour.

[00:00:32]This is it. And I'm going to have to go back up there. And you can They have a walkway for this bridge. Now, this is something else. They have those power poles that are tilted, those are just cool to see.

[00:00:50]But here we are up here. It was a breeze getting in. $10 for parking, free to come in. So, let's go down to the Hoover Dam. I had the choice of either taking the elevator or the stairs. And I elected for the stairs, but I probably won't on the way up, that's for sure. Like food and gifts and only water or watered bottled water is allowed.

[00:01:20]Our first piece of signage. Welcome to the Hoover Dam. the dam that shaped the Southwest.

[00:01:30]The high scaler statue, desert big horn sheep, the zodiac compass.

[00:01:36]That was not a recent picture. And the winged figures. That's cool. I forgot about those.

[00:01:43]Screaming at somebody.

[00:01:47]Oh, how fun. A convertible. That's fun.

[00:01:51]Not today. It's too hot. put on sunscreen. That's a view of the bridge.

[00:01:58]>> And then down here, >> go over by the visitor center. I believe the visitor center, the park itself opens at 8:00 a.m. You can start coming in and then the visitor center and all that good stuff. The tours start at 9:00. But one of the things when you do come in, you're going to go through security.

[00:02:22]They were cool with us. You roll down your windows and like I saying, it's no charge to even just drive in here. But when um we came in, rolled down the windows and they saw me and they're like, "Yep, go ahead."

[00:02:36]But the other people pulled over to the side. I thought there was a statue here.

[00:02:40]Now hold on. This statue, this dog has an interesting name. I'm not going to say his name, but it's the dog who owned the dam. And he's a There he is. He used to run around here.

[00:02:50]The Hoover Dam mascot only acted as if he owned the dam, but without doubt, he owned the hearts of the workers. A and there he was.

[00:03:02]And one of the sad stories to the dog, he was sleeping under a truck because it was much cooler there and he was sadly ran over.

[00:03:14]But this is where he is buried. do a lot of graves on my channel and now we can add one more to the list.

[00:03:22]The Hoover Dam construction crews mascot was found as a puppy by workers in construction camp. The dog traveled to and from the dam site with them. Spent his days visiting the many workers.

[00:03:33]February 21st, 1941, the life of this devoted animal came to an end when a truck ran him over.

[00:03:41]But yeah, right there.

[00:03:44]And they call it what? Look up his name.

[00:03:48]It's It's bad. That's all I'll say.

[00:03:54]That's pretty interesting.

[00:03:57]All right, we're going to get over to the fun spot over here and I'm going to show you the rest. One of the first elevators that takes you down. And you got to love the art deco style. all this when we get around to the other side of this visitor center too. You'll see the art deco. That's so awesome. And then they have the guardian angels that we're going to head over to right now.

[00:04:22]Currently 87 degrees Fahrenheit at 9:13 and 30 Celsius for those Europeans.

[00:04:30]It is warm enough though. We're going to hit over 100. They said tomorrow, but we hit it yesterday and we're going to definitely hit it today. So, >> yes, I understand. All right. Thank you.

[00:04:39]>> Another thing when you're coming in here, don't bring drones. Don't bring guns. You're going to have a problem when you check in. But All the building materials used in the construction of the dam. This rock came from one of the 48 states.

[00:05:07]Santa, California >> came from Santa Ana. This rock >> these weigh over four tons. I don't know if you can hear the thing, but he's talking about, but over 30 feet tall and four tons. These are great. I currently am the only person out here, so you can get Shoot, it's Saturday. You can get all the pictures you want. And I think I'm going to have to click a few off the old Instagram for the Graham.

[00:05:49]>> I can't believe how many few people are here. This is another one just like Red Rock. Come to this for sure. Here's in memory of the fellow men.

[00:06:03]The United States of America will continue to remember the services of all labored to clothe with substance the plans of those who first visioned the building of this dam.

[00:06:19]The United States of America will continue to remember the man who toiled here, found their final rest while engaged in the building of the dam in memory of our fellow men who lost their lives in the construction of this dam.

[00:06:35]Now, I don't think anybody's buried inside the dam.

[00:06:38]I'm sure other people have stated that before, but I want to find out. I know people did pass away while making the dam. Now, I don't know if they were like they fell into it and were I don't think they were cemented in the walls. I think they got them out of there.

[00:06:55]So, the deco is in the details. That's exactly what I was saying. The art deco.

[00:07:04]Oscar Hansen that created the wing figures of the Republic also created the two bass relief sculptures on the elevator towers. Where are those? Oh, there's the elevator towers right here.

[00:07:17]And this breaks down a message for the ages. Hoover Dam belongs to the sagas of the daring.

[00:07:23]And that is just awesome.

[00:07:31]This states we have the old exhibit building over here.

[00:07:35]I guess I could walk over there.

[00:07:38]And this will be our first view of well Lake me and how low it actually is.

[00:07:45]It is at a crucial level. Easy to say. Look at these towers. You see the old photos where it was. It was well up to this line. Walk over to the spillway house.

[00:07:58]Walking by the police officer's car right there. The one behind me is a a federal car, but I could hear the base from it. He was partying.

[00:08:10]1931 to 1935.

[00:08:13]Hoover Dam. All very reminds me of Batman. DC Comics Batman.

[00:08:22]A ticket is required for here. Even the riding for the men's room. Wow, there's some people over here at the spillway house. And this is a great shot of behind it.

[00:08:34]And some motorcycles coming over from Arizona. Welcome. Welcome to Nevada.

[00:08:42]go over here to the spillway and I'll take a peek. But this is sad.

[00:08:49]And then you think about California.

[00:08:51]California gets the majority Colorado uh water. Cal uh Arizona too. Mexico still gets some, but all the water that we have from the rains and the snow pack that goes straight into the ocean. It's a crime.

[00:09:06]And now they're saying Nevada's got another thing planned where if you read up on it, so the water comes in and flows through here. But Nevada has now made a third straw sort of aspect where it comes in at an angle like this and sucks the water from the bottom, which they're doing now. There's a boat coming in testing how close they can get.

[00:09:33]head over to the spillway house. I just want to say the spillway house that I walked over to is closed to the public.

[00:09:38]So I walked over here so you don't have to. But this is a good view of the juxtaposition of how low it is.

[00:09:50]Dang, that is bad. I was just up at Mount Shasta too on my way back from Oregon and Mount Shasta was really bad too. I mean, hundreds of feet into the docks and everything else, but um they rebounded, so I have hope that maybe one day this can rebound, too, and fill back up with water.

[00:10:10]>> Well, it's starting to get busy. And it looks like some people All right, I'm going to give you another idea. Some people just come in and just drive the bridge. And I mean, you can do that, too. Like I said, it costs nothing unless you want to park, then they're going to charge you 10 bucks. And I I think on that side it's free if I'm not mistaken. We parked in a covered parking so can be a little more air conditioned and it's by the gift shops. But yeah, I think you can park over there for free if you want. Here we are. Nevada time.

[00:11:05]So, I figure walk down to Arizona time and then cut back across to the other side.

[00:11:18]One of my favorite movies here. One of the big parts. You see a jet ski coming in. But uh Vegas vacation when Clark Griswell comes here with Randy Quaid and he they go on the tour and he's like, "Where's the damn bait?"

[00:11:32]And he's like, "I caught a puffer fish last time I was here." That's so funny.

[00:11:37]And they're walking through and Clark's putting bubble gum on all the holes with the water coming through. If you haven't seen Vegas Vacation, well, I think I've given you ample time, so spoilers are over. Keep off the wall. Yes, please keep off the wall. Please take all the damn pictures you want. Now, are there any damn questions?

[00:11:58]>> This guy's really testing his limits out there. Look at right up to the orange line. Yep. Look at you living on the edge.

[00:12:08]Truly, I'm just blown away by how low this is.

[00:12:29]>> If they have one of these available, I will be buying them right now. I always collect these. I I think they're cool. I got one from Sequoia, Lake Tahoe, and other places. But the survey marker has the elevation and all that good stuff. But wow, here come the boats. And what does this sign say? Is this it? Are we on the border? Have we made it? No. Oh, yes, we have. There are some weird gnats up here. Nevada, Arizona. I am in the middle. I am in two states as we speak.

[00:13:20]It you'll miss out on this. This is probably one of the funnest things to do. There are a lot of gnats up here. I don't know why, but yeah. Look at this.

[00:13:42]And gasoline out here. Chevron right before you get in. 475. So, now we're cross to the other side. And our first view looking down.

[00:14:03]>> Back in the day, there used to be a um a poster, a skateboard poster, and it was like somebody like a board sitting up here like ready to drop in.

[00:14:14]>> I always wanted that poster. I never got that. But yeah, it was like looking down the dam. And the dam's not straight down.

[00:14:20]>> It's actually curved.

[00:14:22]>> Remember Clark Griswald climbing up it?

[00:14:25]>> Swung across.

[00:14:30]>> So I feel like going back to Arizona.

[00:14:33]>> Yeah, >> there's a thing that we were just at.

[00:14:35]And then the tour takes you down through there.

[00:14:38]>> Yeah.

[00:14:39]>> It's not that high.

[00:14:43]Okay, here we go. See if I still got it.

[00:14:46]>> So, they say if you pour water down the dam that it will blow back up. Well, not when it's not windy, cuz I just watched that myth get busted. This is cool.

[00:15:50]>> On this side, you just got to kind of play it by ear that you're on Arizona Nevada time. But we're entering back into Nevada. Going to go back over here.

[00:15:58]Probably go to the bridge. See if I can get up there. See how bad that walk is?

[00:16:02]>> I'd like to go at least halfway out there and look down. I think that'd be kind of cool. So maybe we'll do that.

[00:16:07]It's getting warm.

[00:16:09]head over by the visitor center.

[00:16:12]>> Check out the current temperature. But one more view of my trip to the Hoover Dam. Said be cool, be safe, bring water.

[00:16:20]But one thing I didn't show and I kind of want to show now this. You can really see the view when you're looking off to the left here or the right, but this really just shows the massive scale of all this that was put in. Can you imagine the guys working on this back in the day? I mean, through the depression and you need a job. This is a wild job.

[00:16:49]How many people have served and helped?

[00:16:52]California would not exist without water.

[00:17:00]There's another boat down there. Just love these doors. This art deco style.

[00:17:22]He goes down and showcases the whole inside and the inner workings of the Hoover Dam. Maybe it starts over there now, cuz here's a a sign.

[00:17:34]Refill your water bottles. Here's a little out cove that I can actually walk out to. This is cool. I can feel the winds kicking up. Hey, it looks just like that part over there where I just was.

[00:17:46]Just another view of the Hoover Dam as Kilhazer would love repeating stuff. So, okay. I think we're going to head off and I'm gonna try to get up there. [00:20:04]Okay, so I'm not going to go to the bridge and walk across it. It's just too dang hot. But I drove I'm driving up to get out of Hoover Dam, but I could pull over right here and look at this transfer tower. This is kind of cool. And it goes down. You can see to the other side where the cables deliver it into the rocks over there.

[00:20:23]That is a modern marble. Look at there's a the twisty staircase. That'd be a job in itself getting up that. But look at that girth of that cable. That is something else. You can't see the water from here cuz it is too stinking low.

[00:20:46]I took my hat off because it's windy.
