Texas DSHS confirms first West Nile case of 2026Hinzugefügt:
Leaders with the Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed the Lone Star State's first case of West Nile virus this year. They said the infected person lives in Harris County, that's where Houston is, and developed the most serious form of the disease. And while most people who become infected never feel sick, the rare neuroinvasive form can cause paralysis and even death.
Health experts encourage Texans to protect themselves by eliminating their exposure to mosquitoes. So, dump standing water near your home, wear long sleeves at dusk and dawn, and use bug spray with DEET.
