[00:05:36]I I you know Jedi when you play those clips I adore those old robots there is >> yeah I grew up with that I was four years old when I started watching this show so that is ingrained you know the robot like some of these clips I some of it's like some of these great clips right here Oh, that's a good >> I mean that was from uh the space primeval season 3 episode and uh the robot does that to blend and it's really when we've gotten full camp at this point in the series when we get to those episodes and the episode I'm doing right now on shorts is uh the revolt of the androids. It is a lot of campy funny stuff. But De Hartford who was in season one was in season two. The android machine is back and she is the same character Vera but she has become more human evolved as an android and there's this android destroyer comes to destroy her and take because there's a revolt and she didn't want to get disassembled cuz she started becoming human. So she ends up finding the planet where the Robinsons are on.

[00:06:57]>> And she reunites with Penny and they had a good little moment because they were good buddies when she was actually an android at the beginning. I mean, if you watch both episodes, they're really wonderful. They compliment each other within the series. They bring back a few of the guests a couple times, especially Dan Masterson. He plays in a few episodes a couple alien an alien in one episode called the sky is falling where he doesn't speak at all. They're called the Torons. It's season one. It's a season one episode.

[00:07:33]>> I'm just like I I know I'm catching flies over here, but it's just when you're talking about the androids and the humanity and you know I'm such a tra I'm such a like Voyager girl and DS9.

[00:07:46]>> I don't do Voyager. No, no disre was on it. Bill Mummy had a cameo on Deep Space 9 and I think he he was going to he was on a few bill but Babylon 5 was his thing too.

[00:08:04]>> Hey J, I I've always wanted I've always wanted to know >> because you seem to do a lot of Irwin Allen type stuff. Uh, >> do you ever think you'll be doing anything for the time tunnel?

[00:08:19]>> I'm done. Yeah, that's on my list. Once we get through Lost in Space, we're going off into Land of the Giant, then Time Tunnel, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea because that's the longest season. We've got so much content coming in the future, guys.

[00:08:36]>> So many episodes to cover. So many great Allen classics, not to mention squeezing in some bee movies, Earth Rust, The Flying Sauces, Forbidden Planet. We're going to talk about those classics.

[00:08:50]We're strictly staying under the 80s.

[00:08:53]80s and under. We're going to do Logan's Run. We're going to talk about that classic. Westworld, which was a great movie. U Briner, Future World. There's going to be a lot of upcoming great classic science fiction discussion. I have a lot of content behind me and a lot of great stories. We can talk about Buck Rogers in the 25th century. We're going to go over that. That kind of takes us into the 80s, but it's still classic science fiction in my opinion because it's over 25 years. But I never I you know J you bring this appreciation for it that somebody like me you're getting me intrigued between you and case and people in our chat and people we've been with on the panels. It it makes me want to go I want to know I want to know where my truck came from. I want to know where my not truck I want to know where my sci-fi came from.

[00:10:03]>> Yeah, >> that's a classic. Soilent Green is a very good one. I like to go over that one, too. I like to do the Andromeda strain. Gogg.

[00:10:12]>> Oh, one of my >> Gog is a great one, too. There's uh This Planet Earth. There's so many retro sci-fi Planet of the Apes series. We're going to cover them. I have all of them.

[00:10:29]We're going to get to I mean, this is This channel is just going to be It's I'm going through Lost in Space first because it Lost in Space is my thing and we're going to go through those seasons and in between we're going to mix up other sci-fi in it. But with the shorts to come, once I finish up with Lost in Space, then I'm going to be doing season one of uh Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea because I already have that one on DVD in black and white. So, and then after that, I will purchase season two, three, and one on eBay, and I will do we'll break it down. And the same with Time Tunnel, and of course, Land of the Giant and all the other good ones.

[00:11:27]They don't make >> They don't make the science fiction the quality. Yes, you're getting stunned by distracted by beautiful stunning CGI effects. But what you're missing Good evening, Fast. Great to see you, sir.

[00:11:43]Welcome aboard. And uh the thing is you're getting stunning special effects.

[00:11:48]You're getting no no story.

[00:11:52]>> The stories are where it's at.

[00:11:56]>> I want good storytelling. I want good science fiction. Like like some of the episodes that I delve into the gloss like the antimatter man where they have John's opposite side is doppelganger and then antimatter world and even the anti the opposite of the robot. There was a funny scene where the robot meets his alternate self and the and he's like mean and evil and then the other robot goes I feel sorry for you. He goes go away punk. Yeah, you know, it's the same guy actor doing the voice, but I'm just the way they would write those stories when I was a Those were the greatest.

[00:12:38]>> But it made you chuckle. It made you engage. And even looking back at this, the >> costumeuming the even the lighting effects, they're so simple, but the story was greater. You know, it took the imagination to that whole other level, which is the appreciation about this old stuff that I'm getting from you guys.

[00:13:03]>> Well, this season one costumes, their spaceacuits, they were so stiff they had to lay on ironing boards and an angle because they were the first season they were so stiff and there was a wire and there's one in in the first episode they have to turn off the gravity. So they're on wires and you can see and Bill Mumie says that was one of the most expens uncomfortable being up on those wires when they him and Penny were floating around and doing something they were having fun but he said it was very the the contraption back then >> right >> you know because you could be you could see the wires barely but even back then cuz the girls hairs went you know you see the the wire pull the hair up back then especially if you get the Blu-ray You can't help but see the why.

[00:13:52]>> Well, no, cuz they're that much. Yeah.

[00:13:54]>> Yeah. But this this is like I'm saying, you didn't focus on that. It was about what was going on around you. The whole thing, the action, >> the explosions, >> and of course, >> the survival of a family, the first family in space.

[00:14:13]>> Yeah.

[00:14:17]>> So, >> what you got, Case? Well, I would >> talk. Don't let me do it all. I was just going I was just going to say, you know, as somebody who likes to tell stories myself, it's really disheartening because when you watch stuff like Lost in Space, when you watch when you watch all the stuff that I grew up on as a kid, all the movies that I grew up with, these people, they of course they remake things because they don't know how to tell a good story.

[00:14:55]And it's depressing.

[00:14:57]>> Yeah, it is. And it bugs me. It bugs me because I don't want to see him make Lost in Space again, but I want to see someone write another story about I want other I want other science fiction. I want different adventures. There's so many things they can discover. I mean like the M I mean like Jupiter like a science fiction that involves the planet of Jupiter. They tried to do it. Jupiter Ascending or something. They put Ma Cloonus in it. Was really bad.

[00:15:26]>> Oh, I was like, you're like me. I'm like, oh, does it really I like >> I used to like that 70s show.

[00:15:33]>> Okay. I All right. I have a soft spot for that one, too.

[00:15:37]>> Yeah, I used to like that show. I like Ashton Kusher and I used to like them all until I found out the other guy was a creepy Never mind. We won't tell. I think I think the dynamics the dynamics in that show were relatable.

[00:15:51]>> Yeah. Yeah. But uh yeah, TV is definitely when I grew up it was Happy Days, Leverne and Shirley, Chico and the Man.

[00:15:59]>> Oh yeah.

[00:16:00]>> Speed racer and all my law and all my uh Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi Beer, Road Runner >> cartoons, man. Real >> I know. But what I love is that you guys are actually speaking of so many shows like Lever and Shirley Incorporated like >> used to watch those Lenny and Squiggy and those two were funny as hell. I mean I just love the way the Tuesday nights was Happy Days Lever and Shirley. Then you had Bob New Hart Wednesday night.

[00:16:38]Then my mother used to Oh, the I Love Lucy reruns.

[00:16:42]Mr. Ed, >> I can watch Mr. Ed reruns until my eyes fall out, especially the one when he meets the Dodgers.

[00:16:52]>> And I was definitely the Ethel of the I Love Lucy back in the day. So >> Oh my god, I love I Love Lucy.

[00:17:00]>> The Chocolate Factory one where they're just >> Yeah. Yeah. I like it when they would make the barbecue pit and she uh or or the I I forget what she did. She put all the meat and something and she goes, "Get ready for the world's biggest barbecue." That crying.

[00:17:16]>> I Well, I love personally the the one where she goes and she's hacking the the vitamin the vitamin supplement.

[00:17:26]>> Oh, that was so good.

[00:17:28]>> Yeah. And it turns out to be like almost all alcohol.

[00:17:32]>> All alcohol. Vitavita Veimix. And it tasty, too. I think I'll try some. And she did it like 10 takes >> and then at by the end she goes vitamix and then flops down on the ground.

[00:17:53]>> Star Wars was after 75, 1977.

[00:18:00]>> There were a lot of good movies after the 70s. I'm just saying all the stuff we're getting today is all recycled [ __ ] Yeah, because the idiots don't know.

[00:18:10]First of all, if you if you take away their messaging, they've got nothing to work with. That's all they know.

[00:18:19]>> And another What else was I going to My brain's like tonight. So, no, what they've done was like this new Avengers movie. They're trying to set it up with the Spider-Man. They're doing a lot of deception, I think, with this Avengers uh Doomsday. Of course, I'm gonna go see it out of blatant curiosity.

[00:18:45]I just want to see it. I because I like Robert Downey Jr. and I know the movie is probably going to be not that good, all convoluted, and they're trying to going to get everybody in it in characters that really I don't give a [ __ ] about like Changi.

[00:19:00]But I want to see him. I want to see Robert Downey Jr. play Doom. I just want to see what it's all about.

[00:19:07]>> I'll I'll watch it and I'll give it an honest review.

[00:19:11]>> But I'm not gonna I I just I'm not going to tear some I can't do it until I see it.

[00:19:16]>> No. And I And I love that. And I love that.

[00:19:19]>> See the Fantastic Four. I couldn't get through the first hour. I couldn't watch it to give it a review. It was that bad.

[00:19:27]>> See, and this is why I have you guys.

[00:19:29]>> I fell asleep. I fell a [ __ ] sleep.

[00:19:32]Excuse my language. The first hour of that movie, I fell asleep. I literally was like, I'm done. I couldn't watch it.

[00:19:41]It was so And it was like the powdered blue pastel exploded in your face.

[00:19:48]>> I like the retro colors. I like what they were trying to do, but the story was ass.

[00:19:54]>> See, but if you don't have the story, your like you said, Jedi, if you don't have the story, your effects are >> It doesn't mean nothing. No, >> like the new like The Lost in Space on Netflix has got amazing unbelievable visual effects, but the story is so freaking solid. That's what I was hoping Zach would have been on tonight for because he was going to we were going to talk about that. But that that story and that script was so solid and each season was better. And the only thing we felt bad about is they cut the last season short. Hey Padre, good evening sir.

[00:21:16]Yeah. There's like You ever see Doc Star? That's a corny like bee. It started out to be just like a project and uh John Carpenter made it.

[00:21:32]>> And it's a it's kind of cheesy, but it's fun. It's a fun classic B sci-fi movie.

[00:21:39]>> Yeah, Buckaroo Bonsai. I didn't like that. I was not impressed with that movie.

[00:21:46]No, >> I didn't like Howard the Duck either.

[00:21:50]Spielberg tried but he failed.

[00:21:52]>> Okay. Okay. Jedi, what would have made Howard the Duck sing for you?

[00:21:57]>> Making it today with better visual effects. It looked too fake back then.

[00:22:00]They was >> they didn't have this for that kind of movie. Then the practical effects weren't good enough in my opinion.

[00:22:08]Looked it made it look too like a man in a suit.

[00:22:12]>> I like that. That is >> that's why Lucas didn't make the prequels until he developed the CGI thing. He waited those years because he didn't have the money and the technology for them to because he squeezed so much [ __ ] into the prequels even though they hold up. Yeah, it is a classic. But I just think the the duck itself, Papa Cotton, could have been just a little bit more believe made believable, you know, like they did in the Guardians movie. I thought the duck looked a lot better, their version.

[00:23:39]There's a lot of good stories when they get all the criminals together to take out that big laser Sylon laser. That >> Yeah, >> there's a lot of good two-part episodes.

[00:23:49]And when they met that guy, Count Nibbi.

[00:23:52]>> Oh, >> and they thought he was God. He was actually like the the space devil.

[00:23:58]really neat.

[00:23:58]>> I gotta say, as a kid, that really scared the crap out of me.

And that was a really And Lucifer that played the act the actor that did the voice of Lucifer in season one of Battlestar Galactica was another none other than Jonathan Harris from Lost in Space. He was doing voice acting towards the end of his career and he played Lucifer's voice. Oh, that's pretty incredible.

[00:24:28]>> Yeah. And he did it great, too, with that Dr. Smith style inonation that he have and he really brought it home. You guys are got to talk. My mouth is My jaw is killing.

[00:24:39]>> Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. It's the ta It's the talent. It's the I really feel like I missed out on some of the best sci-fi because we were born much later. But I love that that sci builds on my sci-fi, but I want to know more about your sci-fi.

[00:25:37]Because I remember I bugged my I bugged my mother to see that in the theater and she's like there's no way.

[00:25:57]>> But to me >> learning >> we're learning and I want to learn because I love the experience. I love getting to see things through y'all's eyes because there's things that I saw on a rerun that it made me giggle. It made me laugh. It made me feel whole.

When they did that to the new series, that was the only thing that that really pissed me one of the few things that pissed me off about that was that particular character. Why? Why not just keep it a dude? Does it matter?

[00:27:02]You know, I got I got to I got to say there there there are a bunch of things about the about the new reboot for Galactica that I just never got into.

[00:27:13]First of all, how come it is that when you're supposed to be on these ships that came from a futuristic planet and you are you need to communicate with somebody in the fleet, you see somebody pull out something that looks like a rotary telephone.

[00:27:35]I don't you look at some of the stuff that they use on some of the shows I'd watch grow I mean the the the communicators in Star Trek the little foot communicators the first season and you know they they they just technology evolve the you know >> Yeah. But I always I always wonder though did te did technology evolve because we were pushed by the movie industry. So the thing is is when you look at the parallels between how technology evolved and then our movies, it's sometimes I almost wonder the chicken before the egg, right? So there's so many great men and women that have wrote these stories about the sci-fi with all these things in it and then poof, miraculously 20, 30 years later we have him.

[00:28:26]>> Stanley Cubic is like one of the best sci-fi writers is one of one of the best writers. He wrote 20 thou you know 2000 Arthur C. Clark one another amaz Clark wrote the book 2001 Stanley Kubrick made the excuse me the talk about great storytelling I had to watch that movie three times Thursday 1974.

[00:32:22]And that's one of the times when like, you know, one of the cases on a show where I didn't have any issue with this with the swappity swaps because they, you know, if you're going to do it, in my opinion, they did it right on that show, you know, and they didn't make they didn't make a big deal out of, oh, look, Starbucks is a woman now. hear her roar, you know, whatever. And >> papa, >> it's it's like plus, you know, they they didn't um what was it?

[00:33:07]Like there was one scene on there where she was uh arguing with Apollo or whatever and I don't know like she like she hit him I think right during the argument and he hauled off and he hauled off and freaking clocked her ass back and I'm like I'm like hey equal rights equal lefts.

[00:33:28]>> Well and that would never happen nowadays. So, I love that you said that >> and you know and not well they let's see who else. So, uh they Adama um um Admiral Adama. So, they switched Lauren Green, you know, >> they kind of had two, >> you know, they they they made they made Lauren Green a Mexican guy. They made um [ __ ] what's his name? The number two guy. Um his name's escaping me right now.

[00:42:55]I think Musker's problem is is he's trying to land a damn uh uh twostory building on the moon instead of just making something more like a Luna module, a little bit bigger, a lot bigger version of the Luna module where you could fit four or five guys in it and just make it that way with a wide base because you're figuring that thing's coming down and it's going to be topheavy because of the fuel and you're going to land that on regalith.

[00:43:25]when they launch and fire those engines, where's the regular going to kick up to?
