[00:00:00]This is a life-and-death issue. Men in the United States die by suicide at approximately four times the rate of women. Four times. That is not a rounding error, that is a crisis. And when researchers and public health experts dig into why, one of the most consistent findings that they return to is this: Men are far less likely to seek help, talk about what we're feeling, or reach out to our support networks when we're struggling. Not because men aren't struggling, cuz as mentioned, we are, because asking for help, showing vulnerability, admitting pain, these things have been coded from the time we were small as things that strong men don't do. Just think about that for a second. We have built a cultural definition of masculinity that is literally killing men.
