Vaginoplasty is a reconstructive surgical procedure used not only by transgender women but also by intersex individuals and cisgender women with conditions like MRKH syndrome or vaginal agenesis; there are four major types—penile inversion (most common for trans women), peritoneal pull-through, sigmoid colon, and jejunal vaginoplasty—each using different tissue sources to create a vaginal canal, with the goal of helping women live more comfortably in their bodies.

Vaginoplasty Isn't Just For Trans Women #transhealth #womenshealth #lgbtiq #vulvovaginalAdded:
Good morning. Over the next two days, there's no time. So, I am doing not a person, but healthcare. There isn't one gender confirmation surgery for trans women. And these surgeries are not only used for trans women. They're part of gynecological care. People shouting about these surgeries being mutilation or new or strange. They're just highlighting the problem that we all know exists. Women's healthcare is not thought about at all. People don't know.
46 days into my general confirmation surgery in Thailand and I'm sharing one trans fact every single day until then.
If you haven't guessed yet, today we're talking about different kinds of vaginoplasty. If you're considering vaginalloplasty, there are four major options. And something important to know is that in general, the process for external anatomy is the same. The first kind is penal inversion vaginoplasty.
This is the most common form for trans women. Existing genital tissue is used to create a vaginal canal external anatomy and it's been refined for decades. For many patients, it works beautifully. There are some limitations particularly to depth which can be a problem for some people based on the amount of material that's available.
Luckily it's not the only option. The next one is paratonial pullthrough vaginoplasty. It uses tissue from the paratonium a thin membrane lining the abdominal cavity. Versions of paratonial vaginoplasty has also been used for cisgender women with congenital vaginal absence including MRKH syndrome. Vaginal reconstruction is healthcare. Next is sigmoid colon v vagoplasty. A small section of the sigmoid colon is used to create a vaginal canal. This can be to provide depth and natural lubrication and it's been used for trans women and sisw women with vaginal genenesis and some patients with differences in sex development. And then there's a lesser known genital vaginoplast which uses part of the genenum a small section of the small intestine. It's much rarer but it belongs in the same wider family of reconstructive care. And that's the point. The procedures are not cosmetic mutilation. They're not some bizarre modern invention. They're part of feminine health, reconstructive surgery, and bodily autonomy. Different women need different procedures for different reasons. Some are born without a typical vaginal canal. Some are interex, some are transgender, some need reconstruction after trauma, cancer, or complication. The goal in all of this is the same. To help women live more comfortably in their body. If that makes some people uncomfortable, maybe the problem is not the surgery. Maybe the problem is that they only support women's healthcare when it fits their politics. My name is Ray. I'm a South African trans woman living in Asia. And I'd love to share your favorite trans fact with the world. Drop it in the comments below. Give me a like and a follow. And I'll see you tomorrow.
