'Loser' Newsom is trying mimic Trump: Ex-California Lt. Gov. | National ReportAdded:
We are just days away from the California primary in the race for LA mayor is heating up. The former reality TV star Spencer Pratt appears to be getting a boost from Hollywood. Now we've got Paris Hilton, uh Billy Bush, and Katherine McPhee who are big names out there in support of Pratt.
>> Yeah, the latest addition to the list is actor Dennis Quaid. Dennis Quaid coming out saying, "Mayor's race, Spencer Pratt. Go Spencer Pratt. Just look around, man." It comes as actor Samuel L. Jackson uh had that smooth jazz endorsement [laughter] of the current mayor Karen Bass. Uh Abel uh Maldo- Maldonado uh is a former lieutenant governor of California. Matt Klink is the owner of Klink Campaigns and a Republican strategist uh who is based in California. Matt, I'll start with you right now. Uh Pratt seemingly eschewing the political endorsement, at least temporarily, from the right, focusing on the star power that was able to put him in position to run in the first place. What do you think of this strategy?
>> Look, he's gone from a nobody laughingstock candidate to someone who has really turned the mayor's race on its head. His advertisements have been clever.
Uh and the simple fact remains is that uh Joe, he's talking about issues in Los Angeles that everybody acknowledges are true. What the debate about is over the solution to those problems. And that's why he's caught such a He's caught the tiger by the tail because everybody realizes that LA is not in a good place.
So uh he He's been a man of the moment and we'll see if Tuesday he makes one of the top two spots.
>> Abel, as the former lieutenant governor of California, I'm interested in your perspective on this. The uh California governor Gavin Newsom slamming the Trump administration's anti-weaponization fund. He says that the state is going to punish residents who take any money from it. Listen and then tell me your thoughts.
>> One thing that uh think we're going to try to do with your support is tax 100% anyone from California that receives any of those funds.
We want to tax 100% of those proceeds. And that's an action the state of California can take. It's an action we look forward to taking.
>> Governor, what's the thought on that?
>> Poor Gavin Newsom. He wants to be president so bad. He'd He'll say anything. He'll do anything.
Look at the press setting that he did there. He's trying to mimic President Trump in the press conference. All the flags in the back and everything. This guy's the loser. I mean, I traveled to all swing state for President Trump for eight months. And when I went to Nevada and Arizona and North Carolina and Pennsylvania, I met more Californians that were running from Gavin Newsom than anybody else. So, this guy I mean, look.
And then he's taxing 100%. That's That's why people have left. That's his issue.
And if you look at California, Edie, we're a mess. Just land at LAX and drive for 5 minutes. And that's Gavin Newsom's California. Highest gas prices in America before Iran. Highest homelessness. Smash and grab. I can go on and on and on. This poor dude, he'll say anything to be president.
>> Unbelievable. Going to have to leave it there, Abel.
