The HPV vaccine prevents infection by human papillomavirus, the most common sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer, anal cancer, vulvar and vaginal cancer, penile cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, and genital warts. The vaccine is recommended for both girls and boys aged 9-15 years, administered as two doses at 0 and 6 months. For those starting vaccination after age 15, three doses are required at 0, 2, and 6 months. The vaccine is especially indicated for immunocompromised individuals and HIV-positive patients, and can be extended up to ages 27-45 based on clinical judgment. Vaccination is ideally given before first sexual exposure, and prevention through vaccination is more effective than treatment for reducing mortality and morbidity from HPV-related conditions.

Importance of HPV Vaccine | Protect Yourself from Cervical CancerAdded:
I'm Dr. Soumya. Today I will be talking about HPV vaccine.
HPV is human papillomavirus. It's the most common sexually transmitted virus. Now we have a vaccine which can prevent HPV infection. This HPV infection causes cervical cancer, anal cancer, vulvar and vaginal cancer, penile cancer, >> [music] >> oropharyngeal cancer, and genital warts.
Now we have a HPV vaccine which is used to prevent all of these HPV conditions.
And this vaccine is given to both girls and boys between the age 9 to 15 years.
And the dosage indicated are the two doses which is given at zero month and then after six months.
If we are starting the vaccine after 15 years of age, three doses are given >> [music] >> at the zero month and then at the second month and at the six months. Total three doses. And it is especially indicated in immunocompromised and also patients who are HIV positive. This vaccine is ideally given before the first sexual exposure. This vaccine can be extended up to 27 to 45 years of age also according to the clinical decision-making of the treating doctors.
So as we always say, prevention is always better than cure. So it is better to get vaccinated to reduce the mortality and morbidity. Thank you.
