[00:01:27]>> All right, good. So, Sassy E, before we get into the Eagles, we are wrapping up debate week. Now, you were all over the place debating everyone. I'm wondering how you feel at the end of the week having gone through all these debates.

[00:01:39]Normally, you're just fighting with people on our show.

[00:01:42]>> Yeah, it feels good. I mean, I think going into the debate week, obviously being ranked number one, there's a lot of pressure. Uh, but I went three and 0.

[00:01:50]I think I won all three pretty decisively, I would say. Um, so I feel good about it. Different hosts, different topics. Uh, it didn't matter.

[00:01:57]Still went three and 0, so feel good about it.

[00:01:59]>> Well, you lost the traffic debate.

[00:02:01]>> Well, that wasn't an official debate, so that's >> Well, and you lost the dome debate.

[00:02:06]>> No, I won the dome debate handily.

[00:02:08]>> Well, you should have lost it. I don't know who the hell was >> and and Richie Cookie this morning.

[00:02:12]>> So, that's just wrong. Now, credit to Richie. He did a good job. But I uh I feel when he admitted mid debate that I was correct, much like Joe did, uh then I felt good about it.

[00:02:22]>> I didn't catch that part. I kept I caught the part where he got super technical football-wise with you.

[00:02:26]>> And and I thought that was a funny a funny moment.

[00:02:28]>> Now, Elliot, some are saying that you had a bit of a Drake May run to this 3 and 0 thing, not having to face Ike or Ria, your two nemesis, uh in debate week.

[00:02:39]>> Yeah. I mean, they do call me the schedule, I guess. Yeah. I mean, I I go against Ike every Tuesday, you know, and I think I hold my own, but I will never go against Ria again after last year.

[00:02:48]That I'll keep that one off my schedule.

[00:02:51]>> Now, real quick, one more thing on debate week. Your best performance and your worst performance in in your debates this week. What do you think?

[00:02:58]Hm. So, I mean, beating Gillio as badly as I did felt pretty good because first of all, I was I had just recorded a Go Birds pod, which you can get in all your podcast feed, and I went right into the studio and then debated Sixers like that. So, it felt good to switch topics like that.

[00:03:14]>> What was the Gillio? What was >> We'll play that later. It was should should the Sixers sort of restart the rebuild by trading Tyrese Maxi?

[00:03:20]>> And which side were you on, E?

[00:03:23]>> Well, they're contenders right now, so I would not trade Tyrese Maxi. Yeah, Julio was Yes, Elliot was.

[00:03:28]>> And I could tell that Elliot won the debate because Jillia was still complaining about it today in the studio. He was like, he's exhausting to argue.

[00:03:36]>> And what was your what was your worst performance, do you think, Elliot?

[00:03:40]>> So, I actually think against Richie. Um, I guess my open against the camera wasn't great, but then I steadily just beat him down. But like Richie, I feel like Richie made some good points and I think I was on the tougher side of that debate. It's the correct side, but it wasn't the side everyone feels. So that was probably my toughest.

[00:03:57]>> So Elliot, uh, Monday is AJ day. Uh, before we get into the specifics because we've talked a lot about the details, but I think it's been a while since we have. The question we we open the show today with was like, how do you feel about him? You know, are you mad? Are you are you, you know, happy with about what happened and and fine to see him go? I know you're not uh you're a reporter, so you're not necessarily just a fan, but what is your I guess you're now that it's almost all over, like what is your when if if someone were to ask you about the AJ saga, what would your first reaction be? What are you going to remember most about all this?

[00:04:33]>> So, for me personally, what I'll remember is like AJ in his press conferences in the locker room, like sitting outside of his locker waiting for him to come in. He I know that there were stretches where he didn't talk, but over the last four years since he got here, >> what >> I said lots of those stretches that he didn't, >> right? There were the two stretches, but like over the four over the four years, he he answered more tough questions than anyone else, I think, on that team. Now, obviously, he created those tough questions, right? So, he put himself in that situation. I'll remember that. But then I also think in 10 years when we're looking back at the time here or his time here, I think the thing I'll remember most is the conflict with Jaylen. Like he AJ was a great player.

[00:05:17]He was a huge part of the best stretch in franchise history, but like Terrell Owens was a great player. We'll probably never see a one one season better. I mean, I guess him or Saquon. And I think the top thing everyone remembers about to is the McNab thing. So, it might be unfortunate, but I think the reality is AJ's legacy, like the first thing people remember is he wanted out because of a conflict with Jaylen.

[00:05:40]>> I think that's fair. Yeah.

[00:05:42]>> Yeah. And to be fair, I got a chance to experience both of them. One outside and one inside to may have been bigger from a celebratorial standpoint coming here.

[00:05:53]>> Sure.

[00:05:53]>> That year, Saquons was better.

[00:05:55]>> Oh, seasons. You mean those two guys?

[00:05:58]Uh, yeah. Yeah. Sequins was better. led us to a title.

[00:06:01]>> Yes, for sure.

[00:06:02]>> Uh, okay. So, the AJ trade itself officially, when can the Eagles trade AJ Brown to officially not have the prejune 1st designation?

[00:06:14]>> All right, you ready for me to put my Jake Rosenberg hat on for you guys and and break this all down? Okay.

[00:06:18]>> So, in the NFL at 400 p.m. the new day starts. So on June 1st at 401, it is technically June 2nd in NFL world. So they can put the paperwork into trade AJ with a post June 1st designation at 401 on Monday. So they can agree to it at 10 a.m. and file the paperwork later. But 401 is where they can officially do it on Monday where they get to split the remaining money over two years. And to like simplistically try to break this down, there's $43 million that they have to have on their cap either this year or this year and next year. And by doing it after June 1st, so 401 on Monday, they split it into two years. And this year they gain $7 million in cap space and next year they lose $5 million in cap space. So that's the benefit of doing it after uh June 1st at 4:00. So to be clear though, the difference is is right now they have what 23 million on the cap with AJ Brown and then after they trade him, they'll only have 16 million on the cap on AJ Brown. So they gain 7 million in cap space, but they're still spending 16 million of their cap space on a guy who isn't playing for their team.

[00:07:37]>> Correct. So they'll have $16 million in dead cap for 2026, like this or 2025, like this past season. And then for the upcoming year, they will have the the dead money, the rest of it as a dead money. But one thing to consider is this. In the NFL, dead cap space. I mean, cap space rolls over. So once they trade AJ on Monday, they'll have $31 million in cap space. If they don't use the majority of that, and they probably won't unless they make a big trade, that all goes into the following season. So that's just something to consider with the cap space.

[00:08:11]>> Sure. Yeah. I mean, they could. Yeah, that that is interesting that they can they can roll that over. So, uh, and is there a limit because I remember the the the Cowboys, I think, having one year where they had rolled a bunch over and they were able to use it. Is there a limit as to how long you could Can you only roll it over one year? Like, what if they don't use it next year?

[00:08:30]>> I think it's just the cap space you have from one year to the next rolls over. I don't think it's like tracking each dollar. I think it's like once you have x amount of cap space in a season, if you don't use it, it goes to the next year. But the thing I'll say is once they trade AJ and they're at $31 million, that is easily the most cap space they've had going into a season in a while. They normally are at around 10.

[00:08:52]I'm trying to remember what their figure was last year, but it's not normally this high. So, that's a just a big number to have all of a sudden available to them.

[00:09:00]>> Do you think now do you think they have a plan for that? Like could that be tied to, you know, putting a bunch of money on a Jaylen Carter extension on this year so they don't have to deal with it last next year or or Yeah.

[00:09:12]>> or or what?

[00:09:14]>> Jaylen Herz extension.

[00:09:16]>> Oh, come on.

[00:09:19]>> Do you think money well spent?

[00:09:23]>> I'm just saying it could.

[00:09:25]>> Yeah.

[00:09:26]>> Uh, no. Well, no. I would say because when they if they extend Jaylen Carter, and I still think they will, like that probably won't take up a ton of that $31 million. Normally with big extensions, it lowers the first year the way the Eagles do it. So, I'd have to double check what his current cap hit is. It's probably around 12 or so. Um, I would think that that would either stay the same or go down. So, I don't think it would be for Jaylen Carter. It would just allow them to absorb a big contract if they were wanted to make a trade.

[00:09:57]>> WHAT? OH, come on.

[00:09:58]>> So, here's a All right. Okay.

[00:10:09]>> So, follow this timeline with me.

[00:10:11]>> So, March 13th, there's the reporting from Diana that the Eagles, Rams, and Patriots are talking about a trade, right? And it seems like it's serious.

[00:10:20]And then at the end of the day, uh it's he's not getting traded until June 1st, which is proven to be true. A few days after that March 13th deadline, Miles Garrett restructures his contract where pushes all of the money a new team that would trade for him till later in the summer. Right? So, he restructures his deal. And the consensus is that makes him easier to trade for. When the new team acquires Miles Garrett, they are acquiring, and this is according to Over the Cap, $31 million. When the Eagles trade AJ Brown, they will have $31 million in cap space. So it might just be tea leaf reading, but I think that's pretty interesting.

[00:10:58]>> Well, they can't. But see, here's the thing. It's tea leaf reading and it's very good tea leaf reading. I give you a lot of credit.

[00:11:03]>> Good stuff there. He good stuff.

[00:11:05]>> But let me let me bring everybody back to reality just for once. I'm sorry.

[00:11:10]>> Could you imag Elliot also believes they're going to extend Jaylen Carter.

[00:11:14]So what we're saying is we're going to pay Jonathan Grard 25 million. We're going to pay Jordan Davis 27.5 million.

[00:11:20]We're going to pay Jaylen Carter 32 million. And then we're going to pay Miles Garrett 31 million all on the defensive line. While on the offensive line, we're paying Landon Dickerson. Uh we're paying literally everybody except for Tyler Ste. It just doesn't seem >> Now now could could they just trade Jaylen Carter >> for Miles Garrett?

[00:11:42]>> Here's one thing to consider. When they trade AJ, when we we talk about trading AJ, we just talked about it in cap space. I believe they're saving a substantial amount of cash by trading AJ. So, it is possible. I mean, think about this, right? And we're just tea leaf reading here, but Howie has to is going to trade AJ. He knows that won't go over well. Imagine a world where he he takes that first round pick and flips it for Miles Garrett the same day.

[00:12:07]>> Bro, and then you >> you get off that golf course.

[00:12:10]>> Listen, Ike, >> what? I' I'd run from the T- box.

[00:12:14]>> Okay.

[00:12:15]>> I run from the T- box.

[00:12:16]>> Don't hurt yourself. when they matter.

[00:12:23]>> Oh, could you imagine >> losing a star player like AJ Brown, but bringing a star player back like Miles Garrett? If Miles Garrett is truly going to be on the market, you have to include the Eagles in the conversation.

[00:12:39]>> Sure. Now, that's two first round picks for Miles.

[00:12:42]>> I'm just saying it is. But agree, >> but it's kind of only one if you're flipping the AJ pick. Like I know it is two, but you're only really losing one then. It's more like AJ in a first round pick.

[00:12:54]>> Yeah. I >> So anyway, I just thought it's an interesting connection, >> man. If he's on the market, the Eagles are in the His brother works here. Like the the the GM's brother in Cleveland used to work here, right?

[00:13:09]>> Yeah. They aren't THEY'RE THEY'RE IN THE CONVERSATION. I don't know if they get it done, but they're in the conversation for Miles Garrett.

[00:13:19]>> Another thing to consider is m as far as unless it happened today and it's not been reported. Miles Garrett has not been in Cleveland for OTAAS. Todd Mon Todd Mon, the head coach was asked, "Have you talked to Miles?" and he said Garrett with a question mark and then went no >> Miles Davis Miles Davis >> Miles Teller Miles Sanders.

[00:13:42]>> Yeah. No. Yeah. Exactly. So it doesn't seem like things are going too well there in Cleveland.

[00:14:41]>> Well, no insider stuff there. There should be some risk to reporting it. If you're just tea leaf reading and speculating and they don't trade for Miles Garrett, Elliot doesn't get penalized for it.

[00:15:01]>> Now, I will say it feels like you guys only remember my misses. None of these other top five insiders. I never see I never see you guys circle back on their misses. [00:15:23]And you said after watching OTAAS you you you had a sort of a new perspective on what position the Eagles are missing most on their roster. What do you think it is?

[00:15:34]>> Yeah. So we talked so much about safety, but I feel good about Marcus Eps back there. He started for them in the second half the year. Vic Fanjo clearly likes him. The defense was really good with him out on the field. It's not like he was an obvious weak link. Uh Makuba is a question, but he's starting regardless.

[00:15:50]I think after being at watching them practice, their backup offensive line is is really really thin. I mean, they have Fred Johnson at backup tackle, but outside of that, they have no offensive lineman that has any type of meaningful NFL action, and most of them have never played in the NFL. The backup center when I was there was Jake Major. He's never played in the NFL. Drew Kendall was the backup guard. He's never played meaningful snaps in the NFL. Markeel Bell was ahead of Fred Johnson on the depth chart. He just got drafted a few months ago. And I understand it's hard to build uh backup offensive line depth.

[00:16:24]Like it is just hard to build a good line in general. But they're a unique situation because Cam Jurgens, Landon Dickerson very well could miss time.

[00:16:32]Plus Lane and Milada, you know, are always seem to be dealing with injuries.

[00:16:35]So they need, I think, some veteran offensive linemen more than they need the safety.

[00:16:40]>> I'm going tell you like this.

[00:16:44]I'm not in love with our safeties, >> but I hear you. I trust Vic Fangio.

[00:16:49]That's the main part about that.

[00:16:50]>> He seems to trust.

[00:16:51]>> Yes, I'm not in love with safeties. I was I was skeptical about Makubu when we drafted him. I thought he looks more like a nickel corner than he does a safety, but whatever. And Vic Fangio loves him. I love him. So, I'll trust Big Fangio. Marcus Eps, he feels comfortable with Marcus Eps back there.

[00:17:06]I'm good. To your point with this old line, absolutely right. And what's his name? Chris Cooper. Cooper. What's >> Chris Cooper?

[00:17:12]>> Yes. Yeah, >> listen. We're trusting his eye >> and his ability to develop talent on that offensive line. He didn't get credit for Milada and and Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens, Tyler Stein, and Lane Johnson. They were already here. They've already been raised under Jeff Statin. but developing that next group, the guy that can come in and play behind them teaching this system. This is where the Eagles, man, if if I got any trepidation about this season coming up, believe it or not, it's not the players.

[00:17:45]It's not guys bouncing back and having the years they've had prior. I feel more confident that that'll happen because I believe the Super Bowl hangover is real even when you win it. I got more concerns about the inexperience or the or the the >> the amount of experience there is with the offensive coaching staff.

[00:18:05]>> Sure.

[00:18:05]>> I got more questions about that than anything.

[00:18:08]>> I just do.

[00:18:10]>> And all the positions, the quarterback, the play caller, the O line, like all of that, man. I do.

[00:18:16]>> Go ahead.

[00:18:16]>> Would you, if you could do it right now, would you swap out Patulo and Jeff Stoutland for Shawn Manion and Chris Cooper?

[00:18:24]>> Oh, me? Yeah, I would. Yes. Yes.

[00:18:30]>> I I was okay with keeping Patulo.

I'm just saying if you're talking about having the same guys in place for a second year.

[00:19:01]>> With that system versus learning a new system, doing things you haven't done before, a coaching staff that's never coached these players and trying to get them to buy into the system and and and excel at it. There's there's more room for error in that than it would have been coming back with the same guys for a second year and trying to do things.
