Though rumba was not born on a concert hall stage or in a music conservatoire, it was in this very neighborhood. Barrio Simpson is a historic Afro-Cuban neighborhood in the northwest of the city, a center for religious, musical, and cultural traditions, and the home of one of Cuba's most iconic rumba groups, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas.
