The Blue Light is a short story by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer (1908-1994), originally written in Malayalam as 'Neelavelicham' and published in 1952. The story follows an unnamed writer who rents a haunted house on a hill, where villagers warn him about the ghost of Bhargavi Kutty, a young woman who committed suicide after her lover married another woman. Unlike the fearful villagers, the narrator treats the ghost with kindness and respect, keeping a blue lamp burning as a symbol of hope and connection. One rainy night, he sees a mysterious blue light, which he interprets as Bhargavi's peaceful presence. The story teaches that compassion is stronger than fear and that love and human connection can transcend even death.

The blue light is a touching short story that combines a mystery with human emotions. It is a emotional story, short story. It seems whatever the blue light is there, it will combines the mystery along with the human emotions, okay? It is not a horror story, but a story about loneliness, compassion, friendship, and hope. So, basically, after listening this story, many of the people will think it is like a horror story, but it is not about a horror story. It is about a friendship. It is about a lonely ship.
It is all about a hope, okay? The story begins when an unnamed writer rents an old lonely house on a hill.
So, whatever the lesson is there, it is starting with a person who is taking a rent on a hill, okay? So, the villagers warn him that house is haunted by the ghost of a young woman named Bhargavi Kutty, okay? So, what is the horror that ghost name?
Ghost name is Bhargavi Kutty. So, basically, Bhargavi is my sister's name.
So, Bhargavi Kutty, okay? So, the people were saying him that don't go to that hill. So, there was a young woman ghost is there and her name is Bhargavi Kutty.
They tell him that she committed suicide by jumping into the well after the man she loved married another woman on their wedding day. So, here what their story villagers is saying is that Bhargavi Kutty were died on that. So, that's why they are becoming That's why that girl is becoming as a ghost. So, why she was died means her The person who loved Bhargavi is loving someone, and that person married some other girl on the wedding day. So, for that case, for that sadness, for that thing, so the she was committed suicide, okay? The narrator is poor and needs a peaceful place to write. So, whatever the person is there, he needs a very peaceful place where nobody should disturb him, like that, okay? So, unlike villagers, he does not he does not believe in fearing ghost. Even many of the villagers were saying about that incident also, the person is not able to get about all that belief, so he will not believing all that. So, instead he feels sympathy for Bhargavi Kutty because she suffered a tragedic love story. Because instead of remembering her as a ghost, he was like he was feeling very sad for Bhargavi Kutty that he was like for that tragic love story, okay? So, before entering the house, he politely speaks to their spirit, okay?
Before entering into the stepping into the house, he will politely speaks to her spirit, whatever is there on that room on that hill, okay?
He requests permission to stay in the house and promises that he will not disturb her. He also tells her that if she ever wants him to leave, she can simply give him any sign. So, before getting into the house, before stepping in, he was asking a permission to the ghost, means Bhargavi Kutty, that I will stay here with your permission. If you I will not disturb at any way. If you feel any discomfort, you can give your small sign so that I will leave from this house.
So, like that uh person is saying, means the author is saying. So, he also tells us uh that if she ever wants to leave the okay. The narrator begins living in the house without fear. He often talks to Bhargavi as though she is his uh she is his friend or a roommate.
He treats her with kindness, respect, and understanding instead of seeing her as a frightening ghost. So, they both are living in that and they were very uh friendly each other. Even though it is a ghost also, they were very kindly.
Sometimes this uh >> [sighs] >> person will talk with Bhargavi and uh like that. Okay? So, the narrator is narrating the story like that. So, they lived in the house without any fear.
Okay? So, he treats her with the full of respect, kindness, everything like that.
Every night he keeps a blue lamp burning. The blue light becomes a symbol of hope, peace, and the connection between the narrator and a Bhargavi's spirit. Okay? Here, what is there means every time uh the person the narrator will keep a blue light it is uh in the thing as a burning. So, what is the blue light indication? It is nothing about a hope or a peace or a connection between them.
So, this is about it. Next, the lonely house, the silence, the rustle leaves, the darkness, and the old surroundings create a mysterious atmosphere. Yes, just imagine if you are in that place, how fear we will be. Yes?
So, however, the purpose is not to frighten the reader. Instead, these details make the story emotional and thoughtful. Okay? The narrator understands Bhargavi's pain and believes that every soul every every lonely souls deserves love and compassion. So, what they were saying is every lonely soul will have the great opportunity to get a love. They deserve the love, they deserve the compassion, everything.
Okay? Like that, the narrator understands the pain of the Bhargavi's.
That is nothing about the pain of the spirit.
One rainy night, after returning from a friend's house, the narrator notices a mysterious blue light shining from his room. Instead of feeling scared, sacred, he feels peaceful and amazed. He believes the blue light is a sign of Bhargavi's gentle presence. The light confirms that her spirit still exist peacefully in the house. So, this is the story. One rainy night, after returning from his friend's house, he was seeing a blue light. So, what he is thinking is nothing about So, he was thinking that that spirit of the Bhargavi is living a very peaceful in that house. So, the story ends on a calm and emotional note.
The blue light symbolizes hope, kindness, love, and eternal connection between the two souls. Through this story, Muhammad the Basheer teaches that compassion is stronger than fear and that love and misunderstandings can even beyond death. Okay? So, this is about the story. Any question whatever the story I have explained now, just make sure you need to write it in the examination. So, what is the moral of the story? Moral of the story will teach us as about the kindness, how powerful the sympathy, love will be there rather than the fear. We should treat everyone with compassion because every person has a story of pain.
Simply, we should not judge another person instead of knowing the truth. So, love, friendship, humanity, anything, it will have the meaningful things even after the death also. So, this is all about the moral of the story. Yes? So, that's it about the the blue light lesson, ma. So, very easy lesson. It is like a cinema story. So, that's it.
