Placenta previa, where the placenta covers the cervix, typically resolves by delivery in most cases, while a single umbilical artery (SUA) is a rare variation that may increase C-section risk due to potential reduced oxygen supply to the baby, though most pregnancies with SUA result in healthy outcomes with proper monitoring.

SECOND TRIMESTER VLOG 🤰 anatomy scan, symptom update, placenta previa & SUAAdded:
[music] [singing] [music] >> Good morning. I am 19 weeks and 3 days.
This is what the morning bump looks like. And by night time I'm like My breakfast this morning is two cheesy eggs, one slice of buttered whole wheat toast, and some salted tomatoes. I'm about to devour this. I also made AJ three eggs cuz he's working from home today. Happy Monday. We had a very fun weekend. We started out on Saturday by going to this touch a truck event that Davey was having where Jesse and my nephew Luke could go and touch and sit and honk the horn of fire trucks and different dump trucks and it was super fun. And then we went to the F1 race in Miami with Michelle and Aiden. I'm sure you guys know Michelle. I'll link her channel down below if you're looking for someone else to watch on YouTube. She makes really cozy vlogs. And then Sunday I just recovered all day. I did all the laundry and now it's Monday. So I'm pretty sure I stored away some pregnancy clothes. So I think it's time to bust those out. I don't even remember what I have. So let's take a look.
Oh my goodness. My wrap. I also have this. I never actually wore this, but this is a waist trainer. Can I even imagine trying to fit in this right now?
Crazy. Oh, I have my Amazon CRZ shorts that I wore all of the time. Couple of softer bras. Organic Basics. I have these Halara flare pants that are a size two big for me normally. So these are for when I'm like in the third trimester. This still has the tags on. I didn't never use this one. Momcozy.
Momcozy bras to me are not very comfortable to to honest. What is this?
Oh, my extra large Amazon tees. My Skims pumping bra. Oh my goodness, throwback.
Is that a stain? Okay, let me wash this.
I have a million underwear. Pretty sure these are just like cheapy ones from Amazon. I have the Skims breastfeeding bra. This is strictly for breastfeeding.
Love that. Two of those, wow. Three of those, oh my goodness. No, this one's Momcozy. I don't like the Momcozy ones.
I'm going to get rid of this one. And then another of those Amazon large t-shirts. Cool, it feels like Christmas morning. I also think I decided on the room layout, which just takes a weight off my chest because originally I was thinking since we have that office across the house, originally I was thinking maybe the baby and I should sleep across the house, that way there's no chance of anybody waking anybody else up, whether it's the newborn crying waking up Jesse or Jesse's crying waking up the newborn like but then we would have to move the ethernet cable all the way over to this side cuz AJ has his desk set up and he wants ethernet. So, I was like, okay. So, we decided to just keep it simple, do what everybody else does, keep the rooms next to each other.
This is Jesse's room, this is going to be the baby's room. Right now we just have a treadmill, guest bed. It's pretty empty. This is our hallway. We have the kids bath and then our bedroom here. So, our bedroom is probably 12 ft away from kids rooms. Cuz I asked you guys on my Instagram and you said with sound machines in both kids rooms, they really rarely wake each other up. So, that's good news. So, I have my anatomy scan on Wednesday. Once I pass that, I think I'll be ready to mentally start prepping baby's room. For some reason that anatomy scan is just like my mental bridge that I need to cross. Once we're past that, then it's like, okay, second half of pregnancy, start actually getting down to the nitty-gritty. We're going to keep the full-size bed in here because I really liked having a full-size bed with Jesse. We didn't have a rocker and so I don't really know what I'm missing so I don't think I'm going to purchase a rocker unless I can somehow get one for free. I just think they're so expensive. So I'm going to be sleeping in here with the baby. AJ's going to be in the master bedroom but he's going to do the 10:00 feed which we won't get into the nitty-gritty right now but I have this plan in my head. But anyways, that is staying in here. We're going to do the crib, a dresser and that's basically it. We're going to keep it very simple, very low stress. I'm feeling pretty sluggish today but Mondays and Thursdays are my non-negotiable gym days. So we're going to the gym, changed into a baggy tee.
It's just what I'm most comfortable in right now. Plus it avoids all the people coming up to me and saying, "Oh my gosh, are you pregnant? Oh my gosh, you're pregnant again?" Cuz I'm going to the same gym I was when I was pregnant with Jesse. I feel like time goes by so much faster when you're not the one who's going through it. So like in a lot of people's minds, I was just pregnant. So they're like, "Wait, is this the same baby or are you like how long has it been?" Cuz you don't really calculate strangers timelines. So I'm just wearing a baggy tee and covering the bump today.
Okay, post-workout. I didn't film anything cuz I was just feeling so sluggish today. I actually would have normally spent the rest of my time working out until I have to pick up Jesse but I'm proud that I still went but today's workout was not super good. So I have extra time.
I picked up some pollo for AJ and I as lunch. It's just rice, beans, chicken and corn and it's like freshly grilled chicken.
So I never really feel bad when I eat this because it's like super fresh. Got some cilantro sauce and not wait until I get home. I have to pick up Jesse and I'd rather just have a few bites before then. Okay, back home. I'm going to make myself a little banana latte with half of a fresh banana and some cinnamon. I'm going to blend this up with some milk. I got some swim shirts for Jesse for the summer cuz he kind of outgrew the one that he had and reminder to get neon colors so that it stands out if they actually fall into a body of water. You're going to be able to see them. I think orange is better than yellow, but this was in a two pack.
>> [music] >> Love.
It's so good even without sugar. I guess I'll have to The time to talk about my second trimester symptoms. The main one that I have right now is just this overwhelming I wouldn't say overwhelming fatigue, but definitely lots of fatigue especially in the afternoon. Like I try not to have a coffee a second coffee every day, but realistically like I really feel like I need one. My energy levels have been pretty low, but I will take that any day over the extreme nausea and like unwell sick feeling that I had in the first trimester. I really don't have any other symptoms like fingers crossed no headaches really. I mean like maybe once a week I'll get a headache, but that's pretty normal for me anyways. I've been sleeping pretty good fingers crossed. Last pregnancy around 25 weeks I had some back pain. I think from your pelvis expanding. I don't know. I hope I don't have that this time around, but I'm still pretty early in that regard, but overall like symptom wise I really can't complain in the second trimester. I'm feeling really good and I'm just hoping that I can ride this wave as long as possible.
>> [music] >> Good morning. Happy Tuesday. I am dragging today you guys. Like I don't know what's wrong with me. You guys were saying to get my iron checked, but I just had my appointment and I completely forgot to ask my OB about that. So >> [sighs] >> I don't think I'm going to make the effort to do that before for next appointment which is in 4 weeks or 3 weeks. Like even after a double shot, I cannot stop yawning. At least my outfit is cute today. I'll do a haul later.
This is Alora. But anyways, we got to go to the dentist this morning. If there's one thing about me, it's that I am not loyal to a dentist. I go to a new dentist every single time. But I think I just found my people and it feels so good to like have a dentist that you trust and like. And first of all, it's so hard to find a dentist who will see you when you're pregnant without requiring x-rays and like making you go through getting your doctor's approval and blah blah blah. I'm like, "Let me pay you for a cleaning. That's all I need. Like let's use our brains. Let's be logical." Like and this practice really gets it. My cousin recommended them and they didn't require x-rays. He was like, "No, it's fine. Just come back after the baby's born. We'll do x-rays then." He did the whole cleaning. The dentist did the entire first cleaning, which is unheard of. Such nice people.
And my cousin was saying that they remember every single thing about you.
So like I told them that I was referred by my cousin Amber and they're like, "Oh, Amber who's married to Daniel who's brothers with Caleb and whose mom is Dina?" And I'm like, "Yeah, that's my cousin." They're like, "Oh my gosh, like we love them." They asked me so many questions about myself. So I'm going to see if they bring up all of these fun facts at my next visit cuz my cousin said that they literally it's kind of like an episode of Black Mirror where like they remember every single thing you said. It's kind of crazy. But my teeth feel so clean. He said I take great care of my teeth. I said, "Thank you. I floss every single day." Ever since I did Invisalign back in 2019, I've been flossing every single day. I got a goodie bag. So that just like sometimes going to the dentist can really like make your day. Um oh, this is the name. I forgot. Joshua Jaffe.
Anyways, I have some Amazon returns I'm going to do them here at Kohl's. It's also teacher appreciation week at Jesse's school. So I got his two teachers um some cards with gift cards.
I'm going to pick up some candy for them, too, and do like a little ribbon and give that to them when I pick him up shortly after this. Okay, let's do a little Halara maternity haul. I got some new pieces, and I have a code for you guys. Actually, I have two codes. I have Vin and Vin 20. First things first, we have this super cute top. It's like a jean material with little stripes. It's got removable pads, built-in bra. You don't have to wear a bra with it, and it's cropped. I'm in a size medium.
Super cute for accentuating the bump.
And then, these are the crossover leggings. These are their butteriest, softest leggings. They also have the so cinched, which really shape you and suck you in. Those are my favorite for when I'm not pregnant, cuz we don't really want any compression at the moment, but they have a crisscross waist, which makes it so soft. They have pockets, and these run big. So, normally, I'm an extra small. In pregnancy, I size up to a small, but they do run big. So, size down a size is what I will say if you're not pregnant. They have so many fun colors. I have these leggings in literally every color. Okay, this is a little 4th of July outfit for you right here. These are perfect for being pregnant. So, they have different lengths in these. This is the 3-in in a size small, and this is the 5-in. So, we have a little bit more length here, which is perfect for my current phase, and I sized up. Did I? No. This is also a small. So, in these, you don't really have to size up for pregnancy because this waistband is super, super stretchy.
I also picked them up in white because this is a staple in my wardrobe. Next up, we have these linen feel pants. I got a size small. I would probably do a medium just cuz it's a little bit tight under the bump, but I can also pull it over. Everything Halara makes is super, super comfortable. So, we have the stretchy waistband, but it's like a linen-like material. This would have been perfect for Mexico. Definitely size up one if you're pregnant. If you're not, get your regular size. Okay, for postpartum I picked up these sweats in a size small. Honestly, a small is perfect. They have super fun colors and just for postpartum you want something cute, something comfortable. They have the drawstring, the pockets, lots of fun colors. I also picked it up in pink, which is super fun, and then a classic gray. You just can't go wrong with gray.
It goes with everything. Okay, this must be new or maybe I just didn't know about it. So, this is a ultra, I don't know if you can tell, it's an ultra high-waisted so cinched. So, this one would theoretically come up all the way up to under my chest and it's compression. So, you best believe I'm going to be wearing this postpartum to suck in that belly and give me that support that I need.
I'm so excited for this. Size small, this also has pockets and it's got built-in supports that help to keep it structured and keep it in place. I've been wearing Halara fears and I have no complaints. You guys know I love them and they have a super inclusive size range from extra small all the way to 4XL. Once again, I have two codes. I have VIN20, which is for 20% off full-price items, and then regular just VIN, which will get you certain percentages off of certain dollar value.
So, everything will be linked down below. Thank you so much Halara for sponsoring today's video. One thing about me is I'm using that coupon code they give you when you do an Amazon return to get some shoes for Jesse. I got him the next size up in Crocs. He's going to be a size six soon and he needed some church sandals. So, I got these for him as well. Also picked up my Starbucks. So good. Also, update on the kitchen. I changed out the hardware. I actually did it myself. Decided to stick to polish nickel. It's just what I really like the most. I They out, so I have to change these ones, but this is what it was before, just like a very basic straight knob, and this is the new one, much heavier. These are from Amazon, actually. They're like five or six bucks each, super affordable, and super super cute. I just thought they added a little bit more character than these. Nothing burgers right there, so I'm loving it.
We got one cabinet paint quote. I'm waiting on the second quote. I have another one tomorrow afternoon, and then I'll make my decision. It's kind of the quote came in kind of borderline of like it's worth it versus it's not price wise, so we'll see. I'm still thinking on it, but belly's getting bigger.
Anatomy scan tomorrow. You guys, there is [music] a giant lizard in my house.
Give me a second.
Yeah.
That's right. We are going to replace this rug in the playroom with this play mat from Tot Kind. I wanted something the same color as the rug, but I wanted a play mat, and they were kind enough to send this over. I love the pattern. It's very subtle, but it's got a little bit of movement, which I like. This is the brand. I'll link them down below.
They're so nice sending me this play mat. It's going to be perfect for having a baby because Jesse was a big spitter.
You guys remember, he would spit up so he was a happy spitter, but he would spit up so much, and I would always have to put something on the rug, so very glad to have this. I'm going to try to put this play set outside since he's not really obsessed with it anymore. We're going to move it outside. I'm going to get rid of the rug. This rug is like 4 years old. It's really really beaten up, and have a fresh new play mat. A fresh new play mat. Jesse.
Jesse.
Going to help me take this outside, okay? No, no, not that. We're going to take this outside. Look, going outside.
>> [crying] >> No, what's wrong?
What's wrong?
Going outside.
He's like, "Why did you move my slide?" Okay, we're You want to help me roll this up? Roll it Oh, watch out. Oh.
Bye-bye. Excuse me. Roll, yeah.
I can't roll it with you on there.
Ready? Let's go. 1 2 3 I got J S C.
Okay, let's finish this.
Super cute. I'm going to need AJ's help taking this rug out, but I like it. I like it. I'll link it down below for you guys. They obviously have other patterns and colors and sizes.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Okay, let me try to get comfortable.
Okay, home from the anatomy scan. I also picked up Jesse. He's napping, so I'm not trying to be too loud, but I'm 19 weeks 5 days. Baby's measuring 19 and 4, so basically right on track, which is great news. They weren't able to get a full picture of the heart, but I have a fetal echo coming up anyway. They do fetal echoes anytime it's an IVF pregnancy anyway, so we'll be getting a full picture of the heart within I think 2 weeks she said and they weren't able to see baby's right hand, but everything else looked as it should. So, that's a great blessing. Two things though that might indicate a higher chance of C-section. The first thing is that I have placenta previa right now, which is when your placenta is covering your cervix, which makes a vaginal delivery, I think impossible. I don't know, but they will not let you have a vaginal delivery delivery if your placenta is covering your cervix, but the good news is that most of the time the placenta moves out of the way by the time you're ready to give birth. So, this isn't a huge concern. One other thing that I do have is a two-vessel umbilical cord as opposed to a regular three-vessel cord.
This is pretty rare, but the good news here also is that this likely doesn't have any other effects. It's probably just a normal variation in umbilical cord. There is an association with potential other defects like heart and kidney specifically, but I'm going to my fetal echo anyway, so we're going to rule out any of that stuff. Of course, I googled it and I've been on like Reddit looking at people's stories and most of the time the two-vessel cord has no factor into anything. However, it does increase my risk of getting a C-section because if the baby ever shows signs of fetal distress either before or during labor, they will be much quicker to do a C-section on me just because with a two-vessel cord, the baby's potentially getting less oxygen than with a regular cord. So, that's kind of a bummer. At the end of the day, what really matters is that baby's healthy and so far it's looking like that. I think we're just waiting on the echo and then the other concern with the two-vessel cord is intrauterine growth restriction, which basically just means the baby could potentially not grow as it should, not gain weight as it should, but we're going to monitor that throughout the rest of the pregnancy through scans and just make sure that baby's, you know, measuring on track. But, so far baby's on track, so that's really great news.
Um so, yeah, just basically I'm kind of having to not give up my Vbac dream, but I'm going to have to be okay with potentially switching over to a C-section later on. I'll have to talk to my OB and see what he's comfortable with, if he's ever had a two-vessel cord, I'm sure he has, and what he thinks about delivering naturally, having a Vbac in that situation. So, the next step is just to have my echo and hopefully rule out any heart things. And then from there, it's just monitoring, making sure baby's growing at a good rate, and seeing if we can still have a Vbac or he thinks the risks aren't worth it. I don't know. I don't know.
Okay, it's a little bit later. I'm feeling much better already. I'm chatting with a bunch of you guys on Instagram who have had the two-vessel cord, and everyone so far, probably talked to like 10 of you so far, and every single one has been a positive experience. So, I'm feeling good. High five.
Thank you. Good morning. It's the next day. I just wanted to end by saying that I spoke with probably about 40 of you guys on Instagram since I posted asking if anyone had experience with two-vessel cords and or single artery umbilical cords. And out of the 35, let's say there were 35 people, three had it affect something else in terms of the baby's health. So, two out of the 35 had intrauterine growth restriction, meaning the baby was smaller than it should have been, and you had to be induced for that reason and or C-section. And then one person had, the baby had also another defect with the kidneys. But, out of the 35, the rest of the people that I've chatted with had no other defects with the baby. And about half of those people did have to be induced early and or on time just because of extra caution concern for the umbilical cord. It does seem to affect the birth plan in about half of the cases. So, I'll just let you know what my OB says and what he's comfortable with. He is not like the most Vbac friendly person out there.
Like he's not on those Vbac friendly doctor lists, but he is supportive of my decision to have a Vbac and he will support me. I'm just curious what he's going to say about the situation. So, stay tuned. But, I just wanted to encourage you if you are dealing with the same thing not to worry because most of the time it's absolutely nothing to worry about and even if there is a concern, the concerns can be managed and handled and even if there is another defect at play. Um so far it hasn't been anything life-threatening and it's been something that can be managed with the baby. So, love you guys so much. I hope you enjoyed this second trimester vlog.
I will see you in the next video. Give it a like, thumbs up, and subscribe if you haven't already and I'll see you next time. Bye. [music]
