[00:00:16]It was done 2 days ago. Right? So I came across this video where this woman was talking about how she's being harassed by Latinos. Why her community are harassing her? because she is talking about the anti-blackness that runs in their community and she's asking them what is it what is it that scares you people each time we talk about anti-blackness that runs in our community and how we treat black people and then I am seeing video of Latino people having in the having uh like a podcast podcast saying why do black people deserve reparations that they also as well deserve like America is a melting pot so if they are going to get reparations we also deserve reparations Don't you know where you are supposed some certain things about themselves, you guys want to infuse because it is what it is. You know, when you have to infuse something, you have you want to drink water, but you want to put uh uh coconut water or cucumber inside it just to make sure that something goes in with the water. That is what you attachment.

[00:01:24]You love to be attached. Anything that got to do with black people when you guys cannot go out and create something for yourself and have it for yourself.

[00:01:34]That is the problem. And then this is where the jealousy comes from. Melting pot my butt. Let's get into this.

[00:01:40]>> Why is it so hard for some Latinos to talk about antilack racism? A lot of people have been leaving me comments saying that me posting about this subject of racial innocence in Latino communities is divisive. But what's really divisive is when we don't acknowledge that something toxic is taking place in our communities and don't do the work to rectify it. What's up scholars? Welcome back to my series on racial innocence. My name is Dr. Esther Trujillo and I post about Latinos in the US from an academic perspective.

[00:02:11]So the topic of racial innocence again, if racial innocence is about believing that you're not racist or believing that Latinos can't be racist, even though there's evidence everywhere that shows that Latinos, regardless of our shade, regardless of our position, our immigration status, are agents of white supremacy from time to time. Why does this belief stick? And we've been reading Dr. Tanya Katie Hernandez's book, Racial Innocence. She argues that our stubbornness around this idea that Latinos can't be racist comes from a couple different places. First off, it's our own experiences with discrimination.

[00:02:49]If we're discriminated, then how is it possible for us to also be the people who are engaging in discrimination?

[00:02:56]Another reason is the narratives of Latino unity. And to that, I would add black and Latino unity. People will often cite the fact that their neighbors are black or their friends are black without really delving critically into what that means or taking their own personal example as a generalization even though your experience is just one data point. And among her many points, Ernnandez also argues that our adherence to this myth of racial innocence comes from living day-to-day life within a white supremacist society. So, let me just be clear. Even though Latinos face discrimination and that discrimination is real and varied and complex and layered, we can still participate in antilackness. We can still be agents of white supremacy. Being marginalized in one way or another does not preclude someone from being discriminatory themselves or from producing harm. [00:04:09]The goal of these conversations is not to blame. It's to have introspection, to stop and think like, hey, have I done this? Should I I should stop? Maybe I should stop. Maybe I should ask people around me who have darker skin than me, a beige Latina. Maybe I should be asking people how this affects them and understand it on a deeper level. It's not to set blame. It's to create awareness because after you're aware of something, you can do something to stop it and to rectify it. Once we've recognized the patterns, we can stop them. And that is what's going to create true unity, being transparent with each other and clear.

[00:04:48]>> Know how Native Americans get uh get reparations and [ __ ] like that? They get paid all that [ __ ] their kids get free, all that [ __ ] >> Mexicans should get reparations, too, cuz you know, Texas, >> New Mexico, >> New Mexico, Arizona, and California was all part of Mexico.

[00:05:05]>> And they lowkey hold them [ __ ] out that [ __ ] >> if you know the history. I don't know if you know the history.

[00:05:12]>> Nobody owe no Mexicans no damn reparations. Hell, y'all even had y'all own slave trade that y'all participated in. The indigenous American Southwest slave trade. Y'all was out there with the Spaniards selling indigenous Americans into slavery and stripping them of their culture. They took them and they took these kids and sent them to these like Spanish and Catholic schools to strip them of their language, their indigenous language and their indigenous traditions and culture and made them Spaniards. Like literally culturally they made these kids Spanards. They didn't only you know sell them but they made them culturally Spanard. So if anybody owe anybody reparations, it's Mexicans and the Spaniards because they did this together and they were providing intel to the US military to attack these indigenous Americans villages. So what are you talking about? Reparations and y'all owe black Americans reparations for like swagger jacking, right? That that his whole swag the the the the words his the way he was articulating himself. Y'all didn't even know anything about reparations until black Americans were talking about uh reparations. You never hear no Mexicans talking about that. A and then they have the audacity to turn around and say they indigenous when culturally when culturally y'all Spaniards. All of Latin American all the Spanish-sp speakaking countries in Latin America culturally y'all are Spaniards.

[00:06:37]But anyway, um yeah, y'all owe reparations, bro. Hey fool. You owe reparations, fool. Texas, California, all that stuff was paid for.

[00:06:49]>> It was a small little town in North Carolina. They passed reparations for whoever's over there. I'm sure they'll try to do something over here in California. I think they already actually got a little board going that they're going to start looking into it.

[00:07:00]>> That's what we the Russa >> step up, >> protest, and I'm talking major and turn around and tell them no, nobody get reparations until the Native Americans and the Mexican get ours first. We've been going through this cup a lot longer. So, I don't want to hear it >> because it's not fair, dog. How are you going to give a bunch of money >> to to a specific group? This United States a melting pot. How are you going to give it to a spec specific group?

[00:07:30]>> Because right now they've got the white people with so much guilt.

[00:07:34]>> So, let me get this straight. While we're being guilt tripped into protesting against ICE, they're having private meetings talking about protesting against us getting reparations. He said nobody should get reparations until Native Americans and Mexicans get reparations. That don't even make sense. Why would Mexicans get reparations from the United States of America? If Mexico wanted reparations, they should be getting it from Spain because Spain is their colonizer. You speak the language of the person that conquered you, which is the reason why they speak Spanish. Their fight is not with the United States. These folks came here voluntarily for a better life, not because they had to, not because they were forced to, not because they was made to do anything. So there is no reparations talk between Mexico and the United States. It is completely unwarranted. And when we talking about the Native Americans, the ones the natives that was that's on this part of of the Americas, right? The ones that's up here, they already getting reparations. They never stopped getting reparations.

[00:08:38]When have you ever seen a Native American with a job?

[00:08:42]You know why they don't have a job? Do you know why they don't have to work?

[00:08:44]You You'll never see a Native American with a job. It's because they don't have to work because they're getting reparations because they have reparative justice on the reservation or whatever.

[00:08:54]I was just watching uh Love Jones live the other day and you know one of the callers said that he used to work at a casino and he said that when the natives turn 18 oh they get a nice little $17,000 check from the government and then when they turn 21 they get even more money. So they already got their reparations. They good. They don't need nothing else. And the reparations that they did get, to be honest with you, it doesn't really look like it helped them very much as far as their lifestyle because a lot of them are on drugs and have alcohol issues. And I watched a whole documentary on it. This is just pure jealousy because at the end of the day, these three dudes that's sitting there talking about protesting against reparations for black Americans. They don't even want reparations. They just don't want us to have it. So, I'm not I'm not surprised. But don't talk to me about no more unity [ __ ] And you goddamn sure better not talk to me about no ICE protest because I say >> there's no more ice in the [ __ ] world.

[00:09:46]>> I'm going to start with what is it about racism or talking about anti um anti-blackness that runs in their community that get makes them that make them uncomfortable? Why are they usually very uncomfortable when that um discussion is being brought up? Now I am going to say this because because I this video is like 2 days old for those that will think maybe it's an old video or something. No, the only one that is like a little bit old that was the last video that is attached on this but her own she also gave her opinion recently. That's why I decided to attach everything together. So you guys can see these are the people that are talking about unity, right? And then they still go around on daily basis talking about some certain things that also I feel like they are not com they are not uh ready for unity because when you already we definitely will know and black people are not asking anybody to come over for unity and all that. Why? Because you and I already know how some people what unity means to them. And some people the only time they want unity is when they are looking for something. Now these are the people that were oh like all over you have to help us this that the same people that voted for administration then ended up calling you to help them and you said no then became wide right now I'm saying that how can how can just a demograph get what reparations and then in their own opinion America is a melting pot so a melting pot so pot so everybody deserves to get something out of that reparations. So who I wanted to say this but let me relax.

[00:11:40]Who who colonized you and I am going to ask this because some of you guys are very corny. Why is it that it is always each time they bring up black reparations or black antilackness that is when you hear everybody come up with their own discussion, come up with their own problems and all of that. What is it about black people that get you and make you guys uncomfortable? Because last I checked you guys have your own if there is anybody to hold responsible for your own go and hold the Spanish spin and the rest. How come each time black people talk about reparations, you guys are going to say, "Oh, you deserve reparations." Why? Because America is a melting pot. Port pot you and who? Were you a enslaved in United States of America?

[00:12:31]Of course, you are not. So why is it that you guys are always very quick and ready to bring up this kind of conversation in your group chat and your uh podcast? That reminds me, there is a video that I have in the studio that has not aired. So I don't know what I I think it's obsession because if it is not obsession tell me how somebody will sit down the only thing they want to talk about is black people upon they have their own problems they have what is going on in their community they never address it is either black people or nothing and then turn around when you react you know I don't want anybody to tell me enough of this enough of that and don't talk about racism don't talk about that that it's going to because you and I know that you are lying. I excuse me.

[00:13:25]I don't think anything is I don't think anything has changed since I started talking about racism. And I will also tell you guys that one of the best thing that happened to me was getting to know more about black people. Because if I didn't venture into this, I probably wouldn't have been wellnowledged about what my people have been going through.

[00:13:46]So look at them big boys and big uh big men old men. The only discussion they have to talk about is black people. How they also deserve reparations.

[00:14:04]You cannot make this [ __ ] up. Each day you wake up, you think it's going to get better. I guess it's not getting any better.

[00:14:13]The fact that they have this discussion I see sometimes I'm not even scared about the discussions they have like you know in group I am worried about the ones that we that doesn't make it to the grams Tik Toks and all that. Yeah, usually I'm not scared of this type, but the ones you know they said behind doors that which the majority of them come out to like oh we never we are not like that. We don't did that man.
