The song 'Soulwalker Awaria' by Mittsies uses a Latin chord progression centered around C# minor, B, and G# minor, with the C# minor serving as the tonic that creates a satisfying harmonic foundation; this progression, combined with a moving bassline and Latin-inspired rhythm, makes the song highly addictive and demonstrates how staying centered around the tonic key enhances musical appeal.

Awaria - Soulwalker // Reaction & Analysis
Added:Hey, what's up everybody? Welcome to another reaction. Today we have Soul Walker Awaria. Might be Awaria. Not entirely positive, honestly, but Dr. Physics and my executive producers wants me to get to this one and gave me a description for this that is just so perfect. So, I'm going to read this out just so you can hear what he said. You work for a company named Awaria that fixes generators. Evil ghost girls try to unalive you and you end up kissing them later to get them to help you and be friendlier to you. Yes, that's the plot, man. That is verbatim what they told me. So, at least I know that. And also that it's made by Midsies, aka the guy who did Vitality for Helltaker. So, that makes sense to me as well. I am aware of that. So, I have a little bit of an idea maybe what to expect, but not entirely and I won't know if I don't start. So, without further ado, let's go.
Ooh.
It's a little bit glorp-y already.
>> [laughter] >> All right.
>> [music] >> Okay, it's kind of funky.
I [ __ ] with that.
>> [laughter] [music] >> Mhm.
Little solo lead on the top end.
>> [music] >> Mhm.
I love that the bassline is moving.
I don't know what that sample is. It feels kind of like a cowbell.
All right.
So, I'm vibing with the Latin vibes.
Kind of got an island rhythm going on.
>> [music] >> Yeah, this has just immense feel.
>> [laughter] >> Like I'm trying to stop moving, >> [music] >> but it keeps pulling me back in like I'm way too white for the Latin spice to speak to me, but you know what?
It is and it does.
I love that it like started funky and then it became something more.
Great evolution.
>> [music] >> I still don't know what that is. I feel like it's got to be a cowbell.
Just filtered a lot.
I I that intro loop, too.
>> [music] [music] >> Here we go again.
>> [laughter] >> I can feel that coming back in.
>> [music] >> God, it's just it's so catchy.
That's unfair. It's so unfair.
>> [music] >> And treating this lead on the top like a vocal line, best choice ever.
Allows more freedom.
Wakes the song up even more.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Ooh.
God, it's so catchy. It's so good. I'm I'm shocked that I haven't heard of this yet somewhere by anyone that it took this long. All right. So, to tell you how good this song is, I'm currently in the middle of moving stuff around, so I don't really have everything connected and set up the way that I usually would in order to showcase certain things about the music theory and certain piano parts. So, I still can't show you the video of this, but I did get my ass up and go and get my keyboard together and plugged all that in just to play this just a little bit, just the chords so you can see what's going on here, or rather hear it. But, we have a C sharp minor, a B, and a G sharp minor. That's kind of the bulk of the chord progression going on in this song. Not too much else happening there. There's a little bit of movement between, I believe, the A and the F sharp. But, those chords are more or less for interludes, and the bulk of it is definitely the C sharp minor, the B, and the G sharp minor. So, this is fun. This is fun for many reasons. One, it is a very Latin progression, 100% just kind of just bouncing between these.
Just having fun with those. Yeah, like you can go anywhere with that, and it's C sharp minor for the key as well.
That's not just the chord the progression starts in. That's the tonic, that's the key. And a lot of what I was enjoying about this was that they kept that central idea of the melody going with that chord. Like, the bulk of everything around that was focused on the C sharp minor, and that's good because a lot of times you can move that around to whatever you need to, but it always feels a little bit more satisfying when the song itself understands that that's the root, and that's where you need to stay. But, basically, that interlude-y aspect was kind of like >> [music] >> somewhere in that I'm sorry I kind of flubbed it a little bit there, but like that's just C sharp minor with the E flat included, or the D sharp, depending on how you want to see that. Regardless, that was there, and it makes it that much more fun because it's just sharing the neighbors within the key there. And again, that's mostly just like these notes are all here, the ones that they use there.
>> [music] >> There's your key. That's that's the scale. So, it's just you play that play anything within that song, and it will fit because it keeps itself central.
Here, I could literally just >> [music] >> Whoop, hit the wrong note.
It always lands and I'm not sure how much of that you could hear given the overlap of that, but it was in there and aside from that one sour note I accidentally hit, you can see why this song or again, rather hear it, you can hear why this song just rooting around that tonic and staying put is so important. It makes the song that much more addictive to listen to and so much more fun to play around with. And as such, that energy makes me want to go and learn more about A War Iya cuz I don't know what exactly it is aside from what I was told by Dr. Physics and while that's definitely one of the descriptions of all time, it does make me go, "Hmm, what else does this game have?" It like doesn't have more good music. Do I want to hear that? Like is this the only one? I don't think so.
There's a whole playlist that says OST next to this with a couple more songs on it. So it's like probably this is probably not the only song, but this is probably the funkiest one and the most like Latin.
I I don't know if that was intentional or not, but definitely those inspirations there and I love that blend so good. It started so funky. I thought it was just going to go funk, but then it was like, "No, let's let's [ __ ] turn up the spice, get a little bit more Latin, have some more fun with it." And I go, "Oh, shit." Like I cannot help but dance to that vibe. I don't know if any of you have that problem. I do. Not necessarily a problem, it's just a good [ __ ] vibe and this is a good [ __ ] song. So that's about all I got to say on this one. Thank you all so very much for watching. If you enjoyed this video and you want me to get to something else, hopefully next time with the actual visible keyboard on screen, then let me know down in the comments below if I should or what I should get to. Or if you want to guarantee something, much like Dr. Physics did for this one, you can always go to my Patreon. And if that tier is open, you can force me to listen to something. Doesn't matter what it's from, who it's by. It could be something from this, could be something from something else. Doesn't really matter.
That's why it's a guarantee. But if you don't want to do any of that, maybe just want to follow me and support me for more stuff coming in the future, you know how to do all that. And I'll see all of you in the next video. Goodbye.
