This assessment provides a sobering reality check by shifting the focus from literal translation to the sophisticated interpretation of subtext. It effectively exposes the gap between basic proficiency and the nuanced comprehension required for high-level discourse.

Think Your English Listening is Good? Test Yourself (A1-C2)Ajouté :
I'm going to challenge your English listening skills in a different way today. And this is not just a normal quiz. We have 12 different questions and we'll go step by step. There are four beginner questions A1 A2 level and four intermediate questions B1 B2 level and four advanced questions C1 C2 level. I will read the question and show you the options. Next, you will listen to an audio file. And finally, I will show you the correct answer in the script. We're going to start very easy, but each question gets a little bit more difficult, a little bit harder. Some questions are tricky, but the last question is the trickiest one. So, don't rush and listen carefully. And don't worry if you miss something. You can always pause the video, rewind, and replay the audio as many times as you want. All right, are you ready for the challenge? Let's start. Let's start with question number one. Why was the speaker late? A overslept. B alarm didn't ring. And C traffic. Let's listen.
>> My phone was charging overnight, but somehow it turned off during the night, so my alarm didn't ring in the morning.
I woke up much later than usual.
>> All right, here is the script. And as you can see, the speaker says the alarm didn't ring in the morning. So, the correct answer is B. All right. Now, let's move on to question number two.
What item did the speaker lose? A.
wallet, B keys, and C phone. Let's listen.
>> I went to the cafe yesterday in the afternoon. I remember paying for my drink there. Later at home, I checked my bag carefully, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
>> The correct answer is A because as you can see in the script, he used it for payment and then he lost it. Easy, right? But every question gets a little bit more challenging. So stay until the end of this lesson. And if your English is good enough, wait for the last question. It gets a lot trickier. Now let's move on to question number three.
What did the speaker eat for dinner? A.
Soup. B. Pasta. C. Salad. Let's listen.
>> I didn't feel like eating anything heavy tonight. I opened the fridge and saw some vegetables. So, I decided to make something warm and simple. It was ready in about 20 minutes.
>> As you can see in the script, the speaker wants to make something warm and simple. Warm vegetables suggest soup.
So, the correct answer is A. Now, here is the last question of the beginner level. Here is the question. Why was the meeting cancelled? We're looking for the reason. A, no internet. B, technical problem, and C, no participants.
>> We were all ready to start the meeting on time, but suddenly the video system stopped working. We tried restarting everything several times. Still, nothing worked properly.
>> As you can see in the script, the system failure caused the cancellation. So, the correct answer would be B. Technical problem. All right, we're done with A1 A2 level. How did you do? How many correct answers have you had? Don't forget to let me know in the comment section of this video. And now it's time to level up the challenge, level up the test. Are you ready to go to B1, B2, intermediate level? Let's get started.
Question number five. What surprised the speaker about the restaurant?
Let's take a look. A, fast service. B, expensive food. And C, small portions.
Let's listen.
>> We ordered our food and expected to wait a while. The place looked quite busy and full. But surprisingly, our meals arrived almost immediately. It made us wonder if everything had already been prepared earlier. You could clearly see that this one is a little bit more challenging than the previous ones because obviously it's B1 B2. Now, here is the script. The correct answer is A.
As you can see in the script, it mentions our meals arrived almost immediately. So, the surprise is about how the food arrived so quickly. Now, let's move on to question number six.
Let's see. What does the speaker think about the book? A boring at first. B more interesting than expected and C difficult to understand. Let's listen.
>> At the beginning, I wasn't very impressed with the book. The topic didn't really catch my attention. But as I kept reading, the story became more engaging. By the end, I didn't want it to finish. So according to the script from what you can see the speaker's opinion changes positively. It starts weak but ends strong. So the correct answer is B. This one was a little bit tricky. Right. Now let's move on to question number seven. Let's see. What happened during the flight? A delay, B turbulence, and C lost luggage. Let's listen.
>> The flight didn't leave exactly on time, but that wasn't the main issue. About halfway through, people suddenly stopped talking and sat still. A few minutes later, the captain made an announcement asking everyone to remain seated. After that, things slowly returned to normal.
>> Have you paid close attention? Because if you haven't, you can always pause the video, rewind, and replay. Now, here, even though there was a small delay mentioned, the real issue happened in the air. Halfway through the flight, they had to remain seated. So, of course, the answer is B.
Turbulence. Now, here we are with the last question of level B. Why did the speaker change jobs? A better salary. B career growth and C less stress. Are you ready? Let's listen.
>> The job I had was stable and I didn't really struggle financially. In fact, most days were quite manageable and predictable. But over time, I started feeling like I was repeating the same tasks. I realized I needed something that would push me forward. As you can see in the script, the speaker wants progress, not comfort. So even though the job was easy and stable, that's exactly why they left. So what does it tell you? It tells you exactly option B.
So how many correct answer of intermediate level have you had? We have four questions of beginner, four questions of intermediate, and now we're going to the last part, the highest level, C1 and C2. And I have to tell you guys, this part is very tricky and very challenging. And I'm already excited.
Now, here we are with question number nine. Let's see. What does the speaker think about the results? A. fully reliable, b slightly exaggerated, and c completely inaccurate.
Let's listen.
>> At first glance, the results appeared to support the initial hypothesis quite strongly. There was a noticeable improvement across several key areas.
However, when compared with earlier data sets, the change seemed unusually sharp.
That raised some doubts about how accurately the results reflected reality. Even when you look at the question, you know how high the level is. Feel free to pause the video if you want to listen to the audio more than once. Here, the correct answer is B. But why? As you can see in the script, the speaker questions how realistic the improvement is. So, the results aren't rejected, but they are overstated. Are you enjoying [clears throat] this challenge? Let's move on to question number 10. Let's see. How does the professor feel about the study? A fully confident, B, doubtful but polite. And C strongly critical. Let's listen and pay close attention.
>> The professor acknowledged that a significant amount of effort had gone into the study. She pointed out a few strengths in how the data was organized.
That said, when discussing the conclusions, she chose her words very carefully. It was clear she wasn't entirely convinced by the findings.
>> Take a look at the script here. She shows respect, but also hesitation. So, she's not criticizing openly, but she has doubts. So, the correct answer is B.
Now, let's move on to question number 11. Why did the speaker decide not to attend the conference? A lack of interest, B urgent responsibility, and C external advice. This one is really tricky, so pay close attention. Let's listen.
>> The conference had been on my calendar for weeks, and I was genuinely looking forward to it. It would have been a great opportunity to connect with others in the field. But just a few days before it started, something came up that required my full attention. In the end, I had to stay and deal with that instead.
>> As you can see in the script, a new responsibility forced the decision. So, it wasn't about interest. The timing changed everything. So, the correct option is B. Now, here is our last question and the trickiest one. And trust me, not everyone who's learning English can answer that. Now, here's the question. What impressed the speaker about the leader? A her clear communication. B her ability to stay calm under pressure. C her honesty when she didn't know something. Let's listen.
>> At first, what stood out was how clearly she explained everything. The structure was logical and everyone seemed to follow her easily. Even when questions started coming in, she responded without avoiding them. In a few cases, she paused, admitted she didn't have a complete answer, and still managed to keep control of the discussion.
>> All right, let's see here. The speaker highlights communication. So, the answer could be A. But then the speaker mentions handling questions, so it could be option B. But the real focus is on something deeper. Here's the trick. She was honest about not knowing and that's what impressed the speaker most. So the correct answer is option C. All right guys, I hope you have enjoyed this lesson, this video as much as I have.
And now I want you to go down to the comment section of this video and let me know how many correct answers did you have. 7, 8, 11, or 12 correct answers?
Also, if you enjoyed this lesson, don't forget to like and subscribe so I can create more challenging videos for you.
