Should You Have TWO Amex Platinum Credit Cards?!?

[00:00:00]Imagine paying nearly $1,800 every single year just to hold two pieces of metal from American Express. With the Platinum fee now at $895 per card, a two Platinum household is staring at a massive annual bill. So, the real question is this, are you actually getting double the perks or are you just double paying for the same lounge seats and the same credits?

[00:00:23]In this video, we're breaking down whether it really makes sense for the one household to carry two MX Platinum cards now that the annual fee has jumped to $895 each. We'll look at what you're actually getting up for that money in 2026. Things like the hotel credits, the airline incidental credits, the Uber and the dining credits, and all of the travel perks, and what really happens when you stack those across two separate cards. Then, we're going to talk strategy. Would it make sense to have two full Platinum accounts versus just adding an authorized user? How to avoid overlapping benefits that you're paying for twice, and exactly how to plan out your year so that you're actually using those credits instead of letting them expire. By the end, you'll know whether two Platinums are a power move for your household or if you should cut one loose and keep that cash in your pocket.

[00:01:12]Now, before we get into that video, I do want to ask you guys to hit like and subscribe, and now let's go ahead and get into the Platinum card and whether or not it makes sense to keep in your wallet. So, for those of you that aren't aware, the Platinum card is expensive, very very expensive, but a lot of people still want the Platinum card anyway despite the cost just because all the benefits that it gives you. And and there are a lot of benefits. It is undeniably one of, if not the best, lounge card in the business today. You get access to the Centurion lounges, right? You get access to Priority Pass.

[00:01:45]You also, for a few months at least, get access to Lufthansa lounges and and the Escape lounges as well. And then of course you get access to Sky Club.

[00:01:54]You have 10 visits per year, and of course those aren't just actual single passes, it's 24-hour passes. And so basically, if you have a couple of connections you're trying to make, you actually you you have access to the Sky Clubs pretty much anytime you're at an airport, which is really great because you can also use them on arrival. So, the yeah, the American Express card, Platinum card, it's the best lounge card there is. It also earns pretty well, too, on certain categories. So, it earns 5x back on flights and then 5x back on hotels prepaid through the American Express Travel Portal. But, it only earns 1x back on everything else. And so, if you're traveling, this is a good card.

[00:02:34]If you're not traveling, you don't want to spend too much on this card. Now, the quick key question here is whether or not it makes sense to have two. So, basically what I'm talking about here is if you have a significant other, should you just add them on as an authorized user or would you get more value by having a second Platinum card in the family? And so basically, yeah, that would be $895 * 2, so $1,800 a lot more expensive than the $1,100 that you would normally have with the $895 plus the $195 charge, but not by a lot more. So, it actually might be make more sense if you subscribe to the Platinum card at all, which again, it's a high annual fee.

[00:03:17]It's possible to get away with not doing it, and I've done a lot of videos recently talking about that. But today, it's the Platinum show, and we're going to figure out if it makes best sense for you. So, before we get too far into the Platinum card, I do want to talk to you a little bit about my weight loss journey. So, I've shared before about how I've lost 100 lb in the last year or so, and I have been able to do it with diet, exercise. I walk, you know, couple miles a day, but I've also helped been able to accomplish it through using the shots. So, the weight loss shots are really kind of expensive if you have to pay for them by yourself. You can pay upwards of like $1,000 a month if you're getting those big names. However, there's a bunch of other companies that are working to fight are fighting against each other to actually earn your business. So, it can be a lot less than that if you are just looking for a way to start your weight loss journey or to resume your weight loss journey. So, what I'm going to do now is I'm going to talk about the strategies for the credits that do work well together. And and these are credits that I've been able to stack on each other in ways that kind of makes sense. So, we're going to talk first of all about the Mac Daddy credit.

[00:04:33]That's going to be the $600 in Fine Hotels and Resorts and Hotel Collection credits. So, this one is really really easy to use because you can actually use this credit through the travel portal.

[00:04:44]That's There's a separate app that's available now on your phone, and that makes it a lot easier to make these bookings in a way that is very effective. So, the Hotel Collection and the Fine Hotels and Resorts Collection, they are kind of a premier collection of hotels that give you key benefits like a $100 resort credit. You also get early check-in, late check-out, room possible upgrades, things like that that make the stay just a little bit better. In fact, I've had better experience getting upgrades with this program than I've had with even getting die Hilton diamond status, at least in the United States.

[00:05:15]So, this is really solid. $600 per card, so $1,200 per year, but it's broken up into $300 in the first 6 months and $300 in the second 6 months for every card, which means So, on Saturday of this week, I'm going to be announcing a winner. But anyway, that's what's happening this week. Now, let's get back into the Clear credit, too, because this one's actually really easy to use for a family. So, essentially, the Platinum credit comes with a $209 in Clear credit, and that's just enough for you.

[00:08:48]Now, if you have a family, you have a couple different options. You can have multiple credit cards with American Express that offer the Clear credit, and in that case, basically, they have to create their own separate Clear accounts, and then use that separate card to pay for it. Now, if you only have one American Express card, I would have to add my wife to my family plan, and I have to pay I think it's like $100 and $120 to add her on for the year. And so, like I I would get my fee completely free, but then she would have to pay for hers. And so, that's basically how that would work. But now that we have two, we're able to still get the full amount.

[00:09:23]Now, would I pay $200 for Clear?

[00:09:25]Absolutely not, because you can actually get it reduced price for a couple of other different ways through, you know, buying it through air you know, airlines directly and things like that.

[00:09:35]Um but I do value it. We do get a lot of value from Clear, and having access to it really saves us at the airports. At least at Orlando, it's usually pretty easy to get in and out within 10 minutes because we have Clear and TSA PreCheck.

[00:09:48]So, that's also pretty solid. You do get TSA PreCheck or Global Entry with the card as well. So, that's going to be amazing as well, too. So again, you pay for yours on one card, your significant other pays for theirs on the other card, and that's how you make that work. So, that's $400 that you have to use each year, but it's a calendar year credit.

[00:10:07]So, you don't have to worry about in a couple of months, do I have to replay this game? Now, what I did when I had multiple Platinum credit cards was I made all of mine my default airlines to United, and I just added the United Travel Bank. However, that seems to have gone away, and so one strategy that I've seen a lot of people use is select one for your airline that you want to go to, and then select another one for your secondary airline. So, example, if I didn't have any other like airline credit cards, I would make one Delta because I often have to bring guests into the Delta SkyClubs, and to pay for taxes and fees for rewards trips and things like that. So, that's what how I would use that. And then let's say if my secondary was American Airlines, and I knew I wanted to be able to get, you know, check bags and things like that, then that would be a really good way to kind of kill two of those credits. So, you could get close to that $400 value.

[00:11:00]Well, we'll say 300, right? That's probably doable.

[00:11:03]Next one up, we're going to talk about the Uber Cash. Now, the Uber Cash is $200, and that comes in the form of $15 directly deposited to your Uber account.

[00:11:12]Now, that only goes to the Uber account that that credit card is attached to.

[00:11:16]So, you can actually use both Platinum cards linked with one Uber One account, and then you are able to get $30 every month in Uber Cash. And that's helpful because you can use it for Uber rides, or you can use it for Uber Eats. Now, a lot of people talk about the fact that Uber kind of inflates the prices in a little little bit of ways, and they kind of do, but there are ways to around it. So, for example, I actually order it for Uber Eats pickup, and when I do the pickup, it's actually pretty similar, maybe 50 cents more than if I were to pay for it directly through that restaurant. And so, I'm able to get pretty much the full credit, and sometimes I've actually like maybe they'll have a buy one get one free deal on Uber Eats, but not through the app directly when you're buying through the restaurant. So, it might actually be cheaper with Uber Eats than it would be with the restaurant. So, that's also kind of cool, too. So, you can win that.

[00:12:07]Now, in December, you get $20 per card, so $40 in December. So, that's an easy one to kind of pool. In fact, if you have a gold card, or even two gold cards, you can pool that Uber Cash into one account as well. So, you can actually get more than the $30 if you get two. So, I definitely fully think that that's going to be $400 of value.

[00:12:28]So, right now, let's just do kind of sum up. We've gotten $800 in value from the Uber Cash, the airline fee credit, $1,000 in value including the Clear credit, actually $1,200 including the Clear credit, and then additional 1,200.

[00:12:41]So, we're at $2,400 off of that $1,800 that we're looking at. Now, the next one that we're going to talk about is a $400 in Resy credit. Now, this is every single quarter, each card gets $100. And so, you can either ball out and take both cards to one super super duper date night, maybe buy a bottle of wine and things like that, maybe even treat another couple, and you can do that, right? You can take you get $200 off, just say, I want to put one on the first 100 on this card, the second 100 on this card, and have at it. So, that's an option. Now, another option, depending on how many Resy restaurants you have near you, is that you can actually just go twice in a quarter. So, that's nice, too. Or even four times if you don't really go, you know, you cuz you can you don't have to just use it in one go. So, let's say you go to one Resy restaurant, do $50, do another Resy restaurant, do $50, things like that. So, it can be one super super big restaurant dining experience. You can combine those two relatively easily, or you can just break it up and say, oh, well, we've already maxed out this one, we can go to this one. So, I think I feel like that's $800 money well spent because I have a lot of Resy restaurants near me. I'll have a lot of lot of Resy restaurants that I actually use on a regular basis. So, that's pretty easy.

[00:13:57]Now, let's take a look at the $300 digital entertainment credit. So, this one here is $25 in statement credits every single month, and you do have some participating providers. So, you have access to Disney Plus, Peacock, Paramount Plus, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, YouTube TV, and YouTube Premium. So, my wife and I, we subscribe to YouTube Premium, the Wall Street Journal. We also subscribe to Disney Plus and Peacock. So, between those there, we have this covered. Now, the only thing we'd have to do strategically is make sure, say, YouTube Premium and Wall Street Journal went on one Platinum card, and then Disney Plus and Peacock went on the other Platinum card. That way we can maximize both because it has to be a statement credit. So, it's not there's not really a way to kind of, you know, divvy that up other than just making sure strategically we know which one is billed to, but again, if you're already subscribed to those services, you can get a lot of value from those credits, and I definitely think it's really helpful.

[00:14:55]Now, the only kind of thing that I would say that is less than helpful are some of the other credits. So, the the Walmart Plus credit, having two of those doesn't really help. You only need one per household. So, that's only going to be $155 in value. It's really only $98 in value because that's how much the annual subscription costs. So, sure, an extra $100 for that, but not for not the 300 that they would think that you would use or or call it, right?

[00:15:20]Another interesting one here is the $300 in Lululemon credit. So, this one is $75 in statement credits every single quarter. That one's relatively easy. All you have to do is just, you know, split it up and and check out.

[00:15:33]Alternatively, you can just buy two separate items on Lululemon and just use both of those credits. But, you know, I feel like we'd be ahead so far that I wouldn't really wouldn't worry about if I missed one card, one credit, one quarter, or something like that. So, probably it's possible to get the full $600 in value, but I don't know if I would chase that. Now, another one that's kind of less optimal, too, would be the Oura Ring credits, $200.

[00:15:59]You could get a full price Oura Ring credit. And so, like basically every single year, you pay for it with the two cards, and so then you get the full, you know, Oura Ring credit or the full Oura Ring taken care of. I actually got mine pretty much covered most of the time. I it was $50 more. There was a Black Friday sale, and so it was like 250 for the thing. And then of course, you do have to spend the the the annual fee or the monthly fee for the service, but I've seen that it's been really worthwhile. And having two people with Oura Rings, I don't think is a bad thing because it tells you a lot of things that are going on with your body. Like it tell it tells you if you're sick before you're sick, and or at least before you know you're sick. And you know, it it's a great way to kind of keep track of activity and sleep without having to worry about, you know, wearing my huge Apple Watch to bed. So, that's nice, too. The Equinox credit, we're just never ever ever going to use, but >> [sighs] >> so, we we've talked about this. We've been able to get really good value, but is it worth playing the game? And that's that's the question. Is it $895 times two. That's a huge amount of money. Now, if you're able to kind of stack it where maybe someone pays annual fee in January, and someone else pays annual fee in July, then that can be a little bit better than having to pay $1,800 all at once, but it's still a lot of money, and especially for me right now, I have a kid. I have Wells's just sleeping in the next door in the next room. And paying that much money feels morally wrong. It's weird because, you know, you can say, yes, I'm going to get that value, but the the idea of just paying that much money and having to chase that value. It's like that money could go towards something else. It could go to diapers. It could go to college fund. It could go to a lot of different things.

[00:17:48]And And maybe maybe we shouldn't be shopping at Lululemon. Maybe we shouldn't do five, you know, eight date nights a year. Like I it's just it's hard to justify that in some cases, and I feel like I can definitely see the value in getting two Platinum cards, but we actually don't hold one personal card right now. I have the I had the personal Platinum card that downgraded to the green card, and I do have two business Platinum cards, but one of them is literally about to die this week. And it's just it's a lot to chase. Now, you do get a lot of nice perks with the the hotel statuses and the lounges, but I just don't know if it's worth it for me.
