And like always, anxious partners, let me know in the comments if this is something you would like to see, to feel, to hear in your relationship. So, when your partner is feeling a big emotion, all you're going to do is you're going to stop. You're going to say, "Do you want to hug?" If they say yes, you hug them. If they say no, you don't. And then you say this. You say, "I can see this is really difficult for you.
I'm here for you. I've got you. We're going to get through this together.
What are you feeling? What are you going through right now?"
And you hold them and you listen to what they say and you pick out the emotions that they are feeling. "It sounds like you're feeling really overwhelmed at the moment. That sounds really difficult."
Etcetera, etc. And you keep going through it until they stop talking because they do not need you to fix it, which is what you've been trying to do for years, right? They need you to validate, to process, to go through that emotion with them.
And once they finish talking, you can ask another question to go even deeper, right? "Where do you think this feeling comes from? Is it something you feel often in your life?" And the more you go through, the more you process it, the more calm they will feel, the more calm you will feel, and you'll feel connected together more than ever before.
